Docking Stations that support a 6th generation Nano

What is the downside of buying a docking station that doesn't list the Nano 6th generation among iPods that it supports, e.g. the Bose Sound Dock Series II,  and a second less expensive docking station like the iHome iP90 or iP46 or Sony ICF-CS10iP? Can I hurt my iPod by doing that?

No but it  may not work.  Or some things may work & other don't.
If you see these items in the store, try your iPod Nano on them to see if it will work.
Another thing you can do is to contact the manufacturers to find out when they will update their product to work w/the iPod Nano 6th generation.

I am not sure if there is a lightning docking station. But you can buy a lightning-to-30-pin adapter for typical docking station.

  • 6th generation nano screen black but able to touch screen from memory to get music to play..called customer support they said it's the backlight since touch screen can still be touched and music can be played..any thoughts?

second 6th generation nano..again with the same problem..screen is black will not turn on but am able to touch screen and get music/radio to play...able to touch around on screen from memory..nano is recognized in itunes and computer..but screen will not turn on..called customer support today..of course out of warranty but was told that it sounds like my backlight is burnt out and that's all i need fixed, told that it shouldn't be that expensive (live in myrtle beach SC) and that my screen is fine since i am able to touch around on it...any thoughts?
thanks to all for any advice or input..will try to take to local icitymac store in next couple of days

Replacing the backlight usually requires replacing the entire front LCD/digitizer.  And yes, it sounds the backlight has burned out.
Keep in mind that if you go the Apple route, they won't actually repair the iPod, but instead will do an out of warranty exchange meaning your current Nano will be replaced with a refurbished model of the same capacity and generation.

  • I want a soundbar for my 6th generation nano but am having trouble finding a compatible device. I'd like more than a dock, ideally a soundbar with wireless subwoofer. I'll only use the soundbar for music, not TV home theater. Any suggestions?

  • Why won't Apple admit the problem with 6th generation nano power button?

The power (sleep) button on the 6th generation nano is obviously faulty and poorly designed. Why won't Apple step up and make it right and issue a recall to fix or solve the issue so many people are having? Apple, do you hear us? Make it right! You know it's wrong! If a power button fails after a couple of years, that's a sad design. Shame on you!

No, they don't hear you posting here. My button is working fine after 3 years.
This is primarily a user-to-user technical support site. You've wasted your time here.
Go down to Contact Us at the bottom right, get Apple's address and right them a letter.

  • TS3474 I purchaed the earpods with mic & controls and they don't work with 6th generation nano.  Are the features supposed to be compatible with this model of nano?

I purchased the earpods with mic & controls and the features don't work with 6th generation nano--is this normal?

    Hi there,
    According to the product page:
The remote and mic are supported by all models of iPod, iPhone, and iPad (not all models support volume up/down functions). Audio is supported by all iPod models.
Your iPod Nano may be one of the models that does not support the volume up/down function. Take a look at the page below for more information.

    Hello houseman06
Check out the troubleshooting steps in the article below to get your iPad nano back up and running. Also check to make sure that the lock button is not on preventing it from being un responsive.

  • Why my 1st generation nano earbuds not working with 6th generation nano?

    Hi there,
I had a 1st generation iPod Nano and Apple just replaced it with a 6th generation nano, however the earbuds jack of my 1st gen does not fit all the way into the 6th gen, it leaves a tiny bit outside and I couldn't push it all the way in, though I could hear sounds through the earbuds.  Is there anyone out there that experience this?  I thought the earbuds connector is universal.
Also, I'm not sure if this is related to the earbuds not fitting all the way in.  My new Nano shuts itself off about 1 minute or 2 after I turn it on, I am thinking it may think there is no earbuds connected to it, could this be why?
    Thanks for any help!
    Ray.

Push harder, the headphone jack on the 6 is very tight when new.

  • I updated iTunes and now my 6th generation nano can't be properly recognized now.

I recently updated my iTunes after holding off for a bit and now my 6th generation Nano wn't be recognized in iTunes but is recognized on the computer.
The message I get is this "An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again."
I did this and still get the same message.
I found this article on the apple website http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3218 which specifically deals with this problem. I went through all the steps including uininstalling and installing iTunes and still nothing.
I called apple but they told me I need to buy some 20 dollar phone help plan in order to even talk to anyone since I bought it back in 2010. I won't be doing this.
    Can someone plase help me!!

Try resetting the Nano with it still connected to a high powered USB 2.0 port on your PC. To reset the iPod, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Recommendations for non-headphone microphones for the 6th generation Nano?

Does anyone have recommendations for a microphone for the 6th generation nano that is NOT part of a headphone set? (Think of things like the older third-party products for past nanos or ipods).
    Thank you!

    Hello kidmango,
I am going to have to agree with planb77. Look into other drivers in your computer causing the issue, not just the nano's drivers.
It is possible that security software is the culprit. Use this:
    iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues
You may have to restore your computer to a previous point. From before the issue started. Contact computer manufacture or Windows for steps, or do a search with a search engine.
I would test the ipod on a known good computer to see if its the ipod is the issue. My gut says no. You can set a reservation at an Apple Retail Store. Apple.com/retail .You can also test a known good ipod on your computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Hi i just got a 6th generation nano and im trying to transfer music from my old ipod which a 3rd generation ipod can someone help?plz thankz

hi i just got a 6th generation nano and im trying to transfer music from my old ipod which a 3rd generation ipod can someone help?plz thankz

There is no way to transfer ipod-to-ipod. Look for a 3rd party program, such as Yamipod, that will let you pull the music from your old iPod to your computer.
You really should be backing up your data on your computer.
