Documaker 10.3 vs 11.3

Hi everyone,
We are seriously considering to propose upgrade to our current Documaker 10.3 to 11.3. I am sure there will be a lot of improvements to the 11.3 version. I am not able to find much information about the key differences between both the versions. Can anyone please let me know or point me to a location where I can find this information.
Thanks in advance

Hi Venkata,
My initial thought: why on earth would you want to upgrade your installation to 11.3? Documaker 11.5 is the current release and you should go with that release. It has many improvements over 11.3, especially in handling the headers and footers and a new notion of stubs, amongst other things.
Before you upgrade, you will need to decide if you want to use Documaker in Legacy mode, or switch to much, much better Studio mode.
As for the differences between 10.3 and 11.5 Studio mode, we could easily spend a week talking about the new and improved features and the new concepts implemented with Studio. It's a bit confusing to read about all these new file types, like the Business Definition, Group and Form files, but if you have enough experience with Documaker, you should understand these concepts in no time. And, as an added bonus, the Import wizzard does a very good job in converting an existing legacy MRL to a Studio library.
As a first step, download the 11.5 documentation and read the Documaker Studio User Guide. A second step would be to register for an Oracle class. I don't know if it is still offered, but there was on course on the migration from legacy mode to Studio. If not, an "Introduction to Studio" type of course would help you.
Hope this helps,
Gaétan

• What is difference between Documanage and Documaker?

Guys..
We are new to ECM, one of our customer is using both Documaker(Distributed) and Documanage for their vendor document management. So just I would like to know what would be the reason to use both? Instead can they use only documaker?
Thanks in advance.
Edited by: Ram on Nov 4, 2011 1:37 AM

There is a huge level of difference - Documaker generates documents and print files based on a rules engine and document templates. Documanage does not generate any sort of documents - it is a document repository. Documaker incorporates a rudimentary transaction archive facility but it does not archive print streams or PDF documents, or anything else for that matter. This is where Documanage is quite usable.
You would probably do well to investigate some of the documentation as your question is really too broad to answer with any appreciable level of detail.

• Is there a way to run IDS within Websphere to recieve messages through JMS, then invoke Documaker? Configuring the IDS client to use JMS within websphere seems pretty straight forward, but I cannot find information on running IDS as a server to invoke Do

Looking to move the maintenance of our IDS instances which drive Documaker MRLs from the Unix command line to within a container ( Websphere ). Using the IDS Java client with JMS is pretty easy. I cannot see how I would be able to get an IDS server running within Websphere.

IDS is not designed to run in WebSphere or any other J2EE container. It is a standalone Java application that uses native code, allows to run custom code, reads and writes files on disk, starts other processes, etc. and as such is not exactly suitable to run in J2EE. Most of such actions are not enabled (at least by default) in J2EE due to security concerns. You could run it as a service on Windows or setup to start automatically on Unix.
What exactly do you want to achieve by it being in J2EE container? Perhaps there are other ways to do the same thing?

Hi Gaétan/Experts,
Thanks for the post, we are now able to successfully perform the following :-
1. Configure Documaker Connector - After changing lot of values that was provided in the Installation Guide, which seems to be outdated. For E.g. While using SQL Server Driver, the document says we need to configure the Connection as jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver, where as the code looks for the string jdbc:sqlserver.
2. Successfully insert the values to AOR table in SQL Server.
3. Sucessfully run the connector with mock-file-conn-properties, which creates the documents generated thru Oracle Documaker to the specified destination directory.
Issue:_
1. While using the UCM Destination, we are encountering an error which is pasted below.
2. In UCM we are able to create a new document and sucessfully check in using the credentials. The same used thru Connector throws an error.

• Logical OR condition check in xpath - Documaker v 12.x

Hello,
We are looking to trigger images based on a logical OR condition between XML node values within the Xpath. This was possible using the flat file extract with offset referencing, say, Search mask (counter) - 10,31,12,(a,b). A similar change done for the Xpath reference does not seem to work. Thanks.

Hello,
If we give two manual triggers with 2 different Xpath conditions for applicable image, then documaker executes an OR condition between the conditions to trigger the image.
Thanks.

• Logical OR with XPaths in Documaker 12.1

Is there a way we could provide a logical OR condition within Xpath Getdata DAL?
In the below case, we would need to retrieve the FormNumber value for SortOrder 18 or 19.
FormNumber= GetData( "!/Request/XmlTransaction/Quote/Product/Location/Form[PrintIn='Y'][SortOrder=18]/FormNumber 1,255");

Hi,
If it is Linux or Solaris the Word attachment to the document should work out-of-the-box with configuration. For AIX the Oracle Outside In Image Export runtime component that converts the documents for most document types (except for specific types of TIFF) needs a X11 DISPLAY context with user authorization for which to run the rule in because that what it uses to do the conversion to an image.
Is this AIX you are trying to do this on? If so the ODEE installer for 12.1.x sets a DISPLAY variable in the docfactory.sh startup script in a section for that platform that you would have use to point to a X11 Motif or Lesstif DISPLAY (e.g. my.server.com:2) that has a running X11 server. VNC server option will work also so that the system can remain headless.
I thought that the Oracle Documaker Enterprise Edition document covers this requirement under its attachments notes, not sure.
See documentation on Oracle Outside In Image Export for supported documents it can handle and platforms.
I am not sure if the version Oracle Documaker uses but here is a document reference for v8.3.5 for the Unix particulars, http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14154_01/dev.835/e12885/c03_unix.htm .
SCCOPT_RENDERING_PREFER_OIT settings referenced in the above document is only option on Solaris SPARC and Linux x86_32 platforms according to the Oracle Outside In Image Export Developer's Guide for v8.3.5 (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14154_01/dev.835/e12885.pdf).

The Assembler queue is the first queue that is accessed when Factory starts. From the error message it looks like the server to which you are configured isn't available in the JNDI lookup. A few things you can do to verify:
1) Verify that the JMS server is running - check your WebLogic console (https://<servername>:7002/console) - 7002 is the default port, if you modified this then use the appropriate port. Login with your weblogic credential and navigate to Services->Messages->JMS Servers and ensure the AL1Server is OK.
2) Verify that the queues are configured with the appropriate JNDI name. In the WebLogic console, navigate to Services->Messaging->JMS Modules->AL1Server and look at the Assembler queue's JNDI name.
3) Verify that DocFactory is configured with the same JNDI name. Open Documaker Administrator, expand System 1 and select Assembly Line 1, click Configure. Expand QUEUES_CFG and select Bus. See the Assembler's queue name.
The likely culprit is that your JMS server is either not running, or not reachable from the DocFactory server. Also check to make sure you have no firewalls or port blocks on the requisite ports in your system.

• Can we create .CSV files through documaker

Hi,
Is it possible to create .csv files through documaker apart from pdf's
Thanks

With apologies, it is still unclear (to me) what you are asking.
It is possible to create files using DAL, but to offer more specific guidance requires a better understanding of what it is that you want.
A CSV is a Comma-Separate Value file. A PDF file is a printed document file containing formatted text content, graphics, lines, boxes, etc - in other words a fully-composed document. I'm not exactly sure how a PDF and a CSV file could contain the same data.
Are you perhaps asking to get an index of the created PDF files written as a CSV file? Something that contains a row of key transaction data along with the file name of the generated PDF? Perhaps something akin to the batch (BCH) files that can be produced per transaction recipient?
Are you asking for an export file of all the field data that went into the creation of the document and included in the PDF? Normally a CSV has a header that describes the columns and then each row of data would be consistent with that header. Without knowing that every PDF file you create will have exactly the same number of fields defined, it is difficult to imagine that a single CSV file would be sufficient. And depending upon the number of fields and the size of the data assigned to each, this could be quite a long record per PDF in the resulting CSV file.
Or perhaps you had in mind to get a name / value pair written for each field with data written on separate lines? This would not a be a true CSV file, but could have the name and values separated by commas if that is what you require.
You have something specific in mind and yet, we are not in your mind. We need more specific information on exactly what you are trying to accomplish.

• Read rtf contents from xml file and print them in pdf using documaker

I am using Documaker 11.2.
Input file is XML and for a particular tag, rtf contents is passed like
{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033\deflangfe1033{\fonttbl{\f0\fswiss\fprq2\fcharset0 Arial Narrow;}} \viewkind4\uc1\pard\b\f0\fs20 My\b0 name is Schoo.....
I want to read this data excluding the RTF abstract and print the text alone in pdf along with format like paragraph,bold....
The output file generated is PDF.
Kindly let me know how can i achieve this in Documaker.

There is no direct support for importing RTF from an XML extract. Perhaps feature 1514 "Mapping formatted XML data into multiline field" will be of some use. This was released in 11.0, I believe.
Essentially you can establish paragraph and certain text formatting like bold and underline when you include the proper token information in the data. I believe this is similar to simple HTML tokens.
Example: <FIELD><P>First paragraph of data.</P><P>New paragraph with <B><U>bold and underline text</U></B>. Rest of paragraph normal.</P></FIELD>
The result is something like this:

First paragraph of data.

New paragraph with bold and underline text. Rest of paragraph normal.

This appears to be telling you that there is a DAL script error. There's probably some syntax error not previously detected in the script that is now being reported. The script execution is not able to tell whether LOADONDEMAND is really the name of a script or a routine found within a script library, but that is where the error is located.
Perhaps you can bring that script up in DMStudio and do a syntax check from the menu/ribbon. That might help you recognize what needs to be corrected.
Line 10, column 642 would mean that it is a really long line! Might mean there is just a paren out of place or not enough to satisfy the syntax.

• Web Service call from Documaker Server?

Hi folks,
We have a process where we'd like to create a document, and import (via AddMultiPageBitmap rule) an existing external document to send with the newly-created document. This external document is stored in FileNet. We could use a Java application to read our input file, call an Webservice utility to retreive the necessary documents and put them onto the server that we'd run the Documaker engines (GenData/GenPrint) on, where they could then find and import them from. However, rather than develope a new java application to do that, we're wondering whether we can call this webservice utility from within Documaker to retreive the documents from FileNet, and either do so within the AddMultiPageBitmap rule (eliminating the need to actually place the document on the server by just returning the bitstream to the Rule in lieu of telling it the file location), or whether we can at least do so prior to the AddMultiPageBitmap rule and put each document onto the server just before calling the AddMultiPageBitmap rule.
So basically, Is it possible to do a Webservice call from GenData when running in batch on Linux? We're currently running 11.5.
Thanks,
Gregg

Gendata does support custom code, so you could, in theory, write a custom rule that calls a WEB service and writes the TIFF(any supported bitmap) to disk. After this the base Add..Bitmap rule can just pick it up and work as usual.

We have a unix batch file that uses the gen files to generate PDF. After we upgraded to 12.3, we encountered the error:

jfnlib.jar is correctly placed in the lib folder. Any help would be welcome.
We are running Documaker Studio 12.3. Thanks!

Your custom wrapper shell script does not have a path for all the JRE primary JVM shared object (libjvm.so) and also all supporting shared objects needed to load the JRE. It is not clear what UNIX flavor this is because you have mix of library path environment variables from different OSs, e.g. LIBPATH is for AIX but LD_LIBRARY_PATH is for Linux and Solaris.
You need multiple entries to the appropriate platform directories of the 32-bit JRE so that all the supporting shared objects are in the library path.
Example:
For AIX it should include the JRE 32-bit subdirectories:
$JRE_HOME/lib/ppc/classic:$JRE_HOME/lib:.$JRE_HOME/lib/ppc
For Linux x86 it should include the JRE 32-bit subdirectories:
$JRE_HOME/lib/i386/server:$JRE_HOME/lib:$JRE_HOME/lib/i386/server
For Solaris (SPARC) it should include the JRE 32-bit subdirectories:
$JRE_HOME/lib/sparc/server:$JRE_HOME/lib:$JRE_HOME/lib/sparc
Hope this helps,

• Documaker : how to change text by count during overflow

Hi Experts,
Please help me...
I want to change a text in a section by overflow count.
Summary that I have set are as follows.
1. FormA (contains Subform1)
2. Subform1 (contains Subform2)
3. Subform2
Subform1 on FormA is setting the overflow with the trigger by the XML.
Search Mask (counter) : !/xxx/data/Repeats/Repeat
Subform2 on Subform1 is setting that always repeat 3 times.
Reference :
Documaker : How to set the overflow repeated 3 times always.
I created DAL scripts as follows.
1) To setgvm CTR.
---> Section_HEADER on Subform1 has a field that setting this script.
2) To return GVM(CTR).
---> Section_TEXT on Subform2 has a field that setting this script.
3) To increment GVM(CTR) by 1.
---> Section_TEXT on Subform2 has a field that setting this script.
This counter has been running without any problems.
I tried to set as follows.
4) To change text by GVM(CTR)-1.
if havegvm('ctr',1)
varctr = gvm('ctr',1)
if varctr-1 = 1
return("A")
else if varctr-1 = 2
return("B")
else
return("C")
end
else
return("")
end
---> I placed a field (call this "OUTPUT_TEXT") that is set this script in Section_TEXT on Subform2.
This setting is working.
BUT, I want to output the Double-byte characters at OUTPUT_TEXT field.
I can not input the Double-byte characters in DAL Script. (If I input, DMStudio was shut down...)
By placing 3 text areas in Section_TEXT, I thought of setting the trigger switch by count of overflow, but I could not set.
By count of overflow, is there any other ways to solve this problem?
Thanks,

Sorry, I resolved this...
I created 3 triggers and set it for 3 text area.
A trigger is as follows for *1* text area.
if havegvm('ctr',1)
varctr = gvm('ctr',1)
if varctr = *1*
return(1)
end
else
return(1)
end
return(0)
And, I moved the increasing count field to most right position in Section_TEXT.
+3) To increment GVM(CTR) by 1.+
---> Section_TEXT on Subform2 has a field that setting this script.
It is able to switch text areas by count.
Thanks,
