Document as Desktop

Does anyone know how to set a document as the desktop? There is a great quote in a mac word doc I have and would like displayed on my desktop. Thank you in advance.

You could take a screen shot of the word document by pressing command-shift-3 at the same time and then use that picture as your desktop. You'll probably want to open it in iPhoto first and crop out the menu bar and anything else you don't want to be on your desktop.

Finder restarts after trying to open the documents or desktop tab

Hello!
I've got a MBA 13, 128Gb mid 11 with Lion on it. That's my first Mac so I'm new to it. The problem is in Finder. There are a few tabs in a left side it (My files, AirDrop and others). But I can't open Documents or Desktop tabs. If I try to do it, Finder restarts. Anyone's got any idea about it?

Go to ~/Library/Prefereces
Move these files to the Trash.
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then restart your Mac.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
For Lion: To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

Attaching documents from desktop to FIORI

Hi everyone,
Is it possible to add documents from desktop/tablet to FIORI apps? If yes, it leads to further questions:
a. how can this be implemented/activated?
b. is there any inherent virus control?
c. what are the document types allowed?
d. size limits?
e. DMS/archiving.

If you do not want to change the business process, I recommend Fiori Approve Requests app. Attachments are stored in workflow container.
Approvers can approve/reject/forward/comment but there is no creating attachment in the standard.
If creating attachment from approver side is mandatory, you can extend the standard app by using UI extension points. Please look at SAP Fiori - Extensibility.
Is there any business requirement for approving documents in their mobile devices? In that case, is excel attachment the best option?

Can't save or delete documents to desktop

I created a read only word document and then disabled read only. But the disabling the read only doens't stick. It keeps reverting back to read only. I did this because I was having trouble saving the file (don't recall why). Now I can't delete the file. Mac asks for my password which I do and it makes the dropping a file in the trash noise but the file doesn't go away.
Now I can't save files to the desk top, only to my user folder, documents and drop box.
Now when I try to save a new Word file I get the following message: can't create this file and the suggested reasons are HD full, or write protected or damaged. I can't figure out which of this issues is the problem.
When i try to resave an existing Excel file as a different file I get the following message: file name path doesn't exist, being used, or read only can't access the file HD:User:my name: desktop.

Click on the desktop, choose Get Info from the File menu, uncheck the Locked box, and give yourself Read and Write access under Sharing & Permissions.

Unable to edit SharePoint document in desktop applications

A number of our users are reporting issues when trying to edit Excel or Word documents that are stored on SharePoint via their Desktop applications. The error is as follows
Error 1: "Sorry, we couldn't open [file location here]"
Followed by:
Error 2: "Microsoft Excel cannot access the file [file location here] There are seveal possible reasons:"
We are running Windows 8 and I have tried resetting IE settings back to default and removing all Windows Credentials (well, only those relevant to Office). If I remove the credentials I get asked to sign back in, which I do.
Any ideas what else we can try?

PLease try with office 32 bit version. 64bit sometime create issue.

Editing icloud pages document on desktop, edits not showing up on icloud

I have a pages document on my icloud called "ABC123"
I am on my mac
I go to FINDER > iCLOUD > PAGES FOLDER
in the pages folder I see the document "ABC123"
I click ABC123
It opens in pages on my desktop (not in browser)
I make an edit and type: "***?"
I click save.
When I open ABC123 in the browser-version of pages, my "***?" edit is not there.
Why are my edits not syncing with the icloud version even though I opened it through my icloud folder? Everything is updated (software and pages and icloud acct).... can we just not use the desktop version to edit icloud documents?
In other words:
I ask because I'd like to collaborate with others, but I would like to use my desktop version. They can use the browser to edit. but.... my desktop edits aren't saving to the collaborative online version of ABC123

Yes, Pages and iCloud Drive can be used in the way you're describing. It sounds like you're seeing some unexpected behavior with this feature.
For troubleshooting, start with the tips in the "Documents on iCloud.com are not updated when changes are made on my iOS device or Mac" section of this article:

You may also want to close and re-open Pages and Safari, and test again.
If the steps above don't solve it, the article I mentioned recommends contacting iCloud Support for more help:

Changing a document's desktop icon to the cover of the document

Hey gang, the subject pretty much says it all. What I mean is, I opened a PDF file, then saved a shortcut to my desktop. When I did, the shortcut icon was the cover of the document. Great! Now it's easier for me to choose which document to read! Now, on my new computer, it doesn't do that, so I've got a bunch of generic PDF icons all over the place. How do I get back to the nice, easy, icon I had before? There's got to be a setting I'm not seeing, or a trick to this. I'm running Windows 7 if that helps. Thanks!

This error occurs due to a problem in the Adobe Acrobat/Reader functionality used to display scanned documents and/or documents containing JP2K images.
We are aware of the issue. This issue was reported to us on other threads as well: Adobe Reader Error (21)

Does anyone know of a way to put a link to a document in GroupWise on the desktop?
I would like to use Zenworks to launch a desktop icon to do that.

Moving documents from Desktop to launchpad

First time mac user.
I created a folder on my desktop. I would like to move this file onto my launchpad to prevent clutter on my desktop. How do I do this? Any help with a simple solution is appreciated.

Launchpad is a way to find and launch an application. It doesn't have anything to do with folders of stuff, and, in fact, cannot handle such a folder.
You can use Finder to move the folder somewhere off your desktop, such as your documents or downloads folder.

Locked documents on desktop

I have 2 documents that are read only and locked by another person on my desktop. is there a way to remove them? they won't go into the trash and i can't delete them. i accidently opened them and now they are on the desktop, i know my fault but there must be a way!!!

Select them in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and clear the Locked checkbox. If needed, unlock the padlock in Sharing & Permissions, add yourself to the list, and use the gear menu to make yourself the owner.

Pressing F11, keep my documents and desktop?

I'm trying to get my cousin's netbook to work again, I get a BSOD when Windows Xp starts, right after the welcome screen.. I don't know what to do anymore since Safe mode is not working and he really needs what it's on his users folder (my documents/desktop).
I see that when the little one boots a message pops about Recovery Enviorment .. I want to know more about this, because from what I see it says that it will delete all my data.. but there is another text just under that about how I can restart the operation and choose to rescue files before restoring..

yes on S10e .. F11 deletes all prevoius work...
to keep the documents and personal data..you have to save before do that.. but how ? If system not run ...
best is.. you have to create on an other computer a BartPE XP .. on USB Memory Stick ... so that you can boot this rescue OS and copy all needed data to memory stick or move them to another external usb-harddrive...
or otherway around is put drive in external usb-drive case ... and connect to another working computer.. copy and move the needed data/documents ...
after success you can use F11 R&R to recover ...
Thats a way ... to go...

Not Able to Check-in documents using Desktop Integration Suite

Hi All
I have installed Desktop Integration Suite 11.1.1.16 and have also configured it with the Windows Explorer.
I am able to see the contribution folders after creating the connection with the server, but when i drag and drop any document in those folders, i get a pop-up 'Error while trying to create a content item abc.doc'
I am new to this Desktop Integration Suite, can anyone tell me if i am missing any configuration or something.

I have proceeded from that and now i am able to drag the document directly from the windows explorer.
On dragging i get a screen where in when i click on finish, i get the following error:

7000 copies of document on desktop!!!

I frequently work on documents like Word on two different computers, a Powerbook and an iMac. I network the computers wirelessly and after I make some modifications to the document I sent the changed/updated document back to the iMac. Usually no problem but in the last two weeks I noticed several instances of the document appearing on my iMac but from 1700-7000 copies with a file size of 0.
Using the find function I can delete the copies easily but I would like to prevent this situation in the future.

Well no, if you're talking about a document on the Desktop. The Desktop is a folder, and like other folders has an owner. To move something off the Desktop, you must have write permission to the Desktop folder.
Also, when you go to "open with" in get info it has a website listed???
You mean where you would normally expect to see a list of applications? Never seen this before.

Why can't I open folders or documents on desktop?

I did nothing unusual. Was working on a document using Appleworks, saved it on desktop. Went to open folder where I planned to place it. Nothing happened. Went back to that document. It won't appear. Tried other items on desktop. Nothing. HELP. I need to print document by 12 hours.
Several days previously, I had trouble with iPhoto and posted a question about it. Similar in that selected picture would not come forward when I clicked on it. Wondering if problems are related. Is this a hardware or software problem?

I didn't see that you reported back if the iPhoto suggestions worked or not!? Everybody is kinda hanging on that one.
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, try dragging this file to the desktop, then reboot...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
