Document consolidation in CS4

Can anybody tell me how to get my documents to "float all in windows" so they don't automatically consolidate?
Thanks, MP

You can stick to 100, 50 and 25% like always. Or turn off open gl drawing in the performance tab of the PS preference (which will just return you to CS3 behavior). Or update your drivers, or get a new video card. Mine's on the list, but the screen redraw (last time I checked, and it's been a while) left a lot to be desired.

  • Transferred CS4 to new MacBook Pro, now some fonts will not work when PDFing documents from InDesign CS4. Help!

I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro. I transferred my CS4 from my older MacBook Pro to my new computer, and although it seemed to be working fine now some fonts will not work when PDFing documents from InDesign CS4. These fonts are installed on my new computer, can be found in InDesign CS4, and work fine within the program but will not appear in PDFs. The letters turn into rectangles. Does anyone know why, and how to fix that?
Help/input would be much appreciated. Thank you!
    Kristen.

you should properly install adobe products, not move, migrate or otherwise transfer them.

  • Unable to edit documents in InDesign CS4

    Hello,
A work colleague has recently changed their laptop and installed CS4 - since the getting new computer he has been unable to edit documents (which are fine on my machine). He can select objects and reposition on the screen, but can't edit/delete. He can place the cursor and type new text, but can't edit existing text and is unable to move the cursor with the cursor keys.
The objects are not on the master page or locked.
Our Corporate IT has recently revoked all admin access to our own machines - could this affect InDesign? (No-one else seems to be effected)
We have tried uninstalling/reinstalling and deleting the prefs, but to to avail.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for the reply.
My colleague had CS4 installed on his previous machine and had been using it without problem for over a year - its only since receiving his new laptop that the issues have started.
Unfortunately, I don't think setting up a new user account is really an option (it requires assistance from our parent company's IT dept.).
Yes, we did follow the instructions in the link when replacing the prefs files.

    James

  • Printing 3026 copies of a 2 pages document in Indesign CS4

    Hi,
I have a problem in InDesign CS4. I have a 2 pages document, that I want to print 3026 copies of. I know, that ID only will let me print 999 copies, but I only get a pdf-file of the 2 pages (page 1 and page 2), not 999 copies of the document. How to do it? Can anyone help?
    Henriette

Thank you for your reply. I'd better explain the task properly. I have an InDesign document, 2 pages to be used as direct marketing to 3026 addresses. I had intended to print the document as a pdf file of 3026 copies, and then put the addresses of as a watermark in Acrobat (another pdf file 2 pages), but when I try to print 999 copies of InDesign, I get only a pdf file on the 2 sides, not in 999 copies. Have an idea of what I can do?
    Many greetings
    Henriette

  • Opening InDesign 2.0 document in InDesign CS4 - is it possible?

Someone sent me an InDesign 2.0 document and I cannot open it using InDesign CS4, which is the version I have. The error message I get reads: "Cannot open [filename]. The document was edited by a pre-release version of InDesign."
Is there any way to open these documents?
    Thank you.

    No.
This is not a Version 2/Version 6 (your version) issue. The user had a prerelease version of InDesign which saved in a format incompatible with the release version, as a form of copy protection for beta users. If the person providing the file was a legitimate user of the prerelease version of InDesign 2, then they might be able to contact Adobe to solve this problem, but I highly doubt it.
Anyone who would have been a legitimate user of a prerelease version of InDesign is not likely to never have upgraded in over six years. The supplier of the file is likely a severe cheapskate using a bootleg copy.
Your best option may be to ask for a PDF and a packaged copy (with all linked files), then use that as a template to recreate the file.

  • Copy New Document Presets from CS4 to CS5.5

I had a number of document presets saved in InDesign CS4 and just realized that I don't know how to copy them from CS4 to CS5.5 so I don't have to recreate them again (which is what I've done in previous upgrades). I haven't found anythng that helps with the name or location of the presets. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
    Thanks!

I am constantly losing my CS4 Indesign page presets. I did the define and stored the files. Today, I lost them again, so went to load my saved files, but only one preset saved. Not sure if it was the first preset saved or the last. Do you have to save for every document preset you make? I would think this would all be on one file. I am going to try again, just incase I forgot to save it correctly.

  • How to get the filename of the current active document in InDesign CS4?

    Hi,
If I open a document from File->Open, I can get the document's file name using IOpenedFileInfo->GetOpenedFilePath().
But, if I create a new document and perform File->SaveAs, GetOpenedFilePath is returning invalid IDFile reference.
What is the right way to get the active document's file name?
    Thanks,
    VSP

    You can try this:
         IDatabse * db = ::GetDatabase(theDoc);
         IDFile *  sysFile = db->GetSysFile();
         PMString docName = sysFile->GetFileName();
    Good luck

In InDesign CS2 and CS3 maximum file size is 5486 mm.
Can anyone tell me if it has changed in CS4?

  • How to print document in Photoshop CS4?

Is there a way in scripting (prefer vbscript) to print the active document?
I have a document that I opened in Photoshop and modified it with the clients spec's.  Now I have to print this modified document.  I saw the printout() method/function, but it displays the print dialog box.  This has to be automated.  So I want to just print to the printer.
Also how to you select the printer if it is not the default printer?  What about printer settings, how do you change those?
    Any help you be beneficial?
    Thanks.

  • Will layered psd documents created in CS4 open seamlessly in Elements 12

I am switching from a PC to a Mac and with this change I cannot afford to upgrade my CS4 to the newest version.  Because of this I will instead be purchasing Elements 12.  I have done a great deal of digital scrapbooking in CS4 and therefore I have a lot of layered psd files. With these psd files open smoothly/seamlessly in Elements 12?

The files should open no problem in pse 12, but certain kinds of layers like adjustment layers (curves,b&w, color balance, channel mixer, exposure, vibrance and selective color) can't be edited in pse 12.
Other things like layer groups are not easily editable in pse 12.
Not to mention a host of other features that photoshop cs4 has that photoshop elements 12 doesn't.
You should probably download the 30 trial version of pse 12 and see if it will do for your kind of work.
Download a free trial or buy Adobe products | Adobe downloads
If you aren't familiar with the creative cloud, which is subscription only, you can get the latest version of photoshop cc 2014 and lightroom 5.6 for around $10 a month
(plus photoshop cs4 is out of the upgrade loop anyway)

  • What is the best way to work with Word documents in The InDesign CS4???

I work in Microsoft Word 2007 and all my documents have *.doc format.
What is the best way to work with Word documents in InDesign CS4???
David Blatner says to avoid copying and pasting text from Word instead of placing it (Ctrl+D).
How about pasting RTF or Text Document???
I want to make book's layout in ID CS4 and its main feature is that there is the left page with text and the right - with graphics.
So, as I understand to place the text on each page I must create for example 70 Word documents and place each item on 70 left pages???
It loks like wasting time. I sthere another way of making such layout???  What kind????

It's best to place any text.
You can have all of your text in one file and use auto-flow to add threaded text frames and pages as required (Hold down the Shift key when you click the loaded text cursor), but it's a little non-standard to have the thread only on one side of the spread from the auto-flow perspective, so you'll have to set up properly.
This is one case where a master text frame will work to your advantage. On your master page spread, add a text frame to the left page, but not to the right (or at least not threaded to one on the right -- for some other project you might actually want two independent text threads). Hold the loaded cursor over a frame on the left side of a document page and auto-flow. ID will add new spreads as necessary, but only put the text on the left side.

  • Photoshop CS4 11.0 and 11.0.1 for Windows crashing when saving a newly opened document

If I open a new document in Photoshop CS4 11.0 or 11.0.1 for Windows (on Windows XP SP3 home edition) and then try to save it, Photoshop window disappears (I guess the program crashes, although no Widows crash dialogue is displayed).
Workaround: If I open an existing document (say TIFF) and then erase all from it (say background layer, etc.) change ppi, paper size and format, etc., and save it (say as PSD) Photoshop does not crash.
Has anybody experienced similar problem and does anybody know if there is a fix for it?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Robert

    Your
New Doc Sizes.psp preference file is probably corrupted.
Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.

  • Opening InDesign CS3 documents in CS4

I am hoping someone from Adobe can help me with this question. Here is the scenario:
I work on the support team in a prepress environment where we get hundreds of client supplied InDesign files weekly. Some clients supply their files in InDesign CS3 and some supply the files in InDesign CS4. We have both applications.
From our experience, we have found that if we open a InDesign CS3 document using InDesign CS4, there is a potential for items to disappear in the document. I don't know what changed from 3 to 4 to cause this problem. This has happened to us more than one time and we have experienced money losses due to on press errors.
One would say, as we have, if the document is supplied in InDesign CS3, work on it in InDesign CS3. Easy enough, right?
Well, not really. If you have CS3 and CS4 both installed on your mac at the same time, simply double-clicking on the file will default to CS4 (since it is newer).
We have told our operators that they need to identify what version the file was created in; which is not the easiest thing either.
If you "get info" on the file, you do not get accurate information. It may say "CS4", even if it is "CS3", I think this is because your system is reading what the newest application that you have install is.
I have found that by dragging the file over the CS3 icon in the doc, it will attempt to open the file in CS3 and if it truly is a CS4 document, you will get plugin errors and the file won't open. This works, but my 38 mac operators are so used to just double-clicking a file to open it, they sometimes forget to do it my way, and thats when we get errors.
Is there a plugin available that would prompt you, when double -clicking on a file as to what version it is, or what version InDesign that you would like to open the file in?
What did Adobe change in InDesign CS4 that would cause items to disappear or change when working on CS3 documents in CS4?
    Thank you in advance.

First, this is a user forum, not an official Adobe support site, so you aren't talking to Adobe employees for the most part.
Second, though it is subtle, there is a visible difference between the icons for file created in CS3 and CS4, but you do need to look.
There is (or perhaps it's now "was") a known issue with master items disappearing when placing one ID file into another in CS4. Be sure your copies are updated to the latest patch. Another reason to avoid opening CS3 files in CS4 is potential differences in text flow due to text engine differences which will affect how lines break.
If you want to train your people in a hurry, tell them the next time you have to re-run a job because they opened it in the wrong version you'll deduct the cost from their pay.

  • Why It does not appear the custom option in choosing the document size in Illustrator cs4

When I choose "New Document" in Illustrator CS4 and try to change the document size the "custom" option isn´t available. The only available options are standar sizes.

Typing numbers in the box highlighted in orange (below) does not work?
If so, you might try resetting your preferences:
    Reset Preferences
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776
    1) Close the program and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (not reversible)
    or
    2) Move the Folder. See:
