Document Conversion server in DMZ?

Based on reading the Deployment guide, it suggests that the Voice/Document Conversion server needs to be in the DMZ, but the only network connections that are indicated on the diagrams are for the mxport from the RTC Core Instance to the Conversion Server.
Shouldn't it be possible to put the Conversion Server on the internal network and just make sure that the mxport is open like the intrastructure ports are open?
Anyone have any comments on how useful the Document Conversion server really is in practice? Do users actually make use of it?

Well, in case anyone cares, it doesn't appear to be necessary to have the Document Conversion server actually in the DMZ (we have a no windows servers in DMZ policy). We opened the mxport from the DMZ to the document conversion server on an internal vlan and all seems to work just fine with document conversion and display.

Based on your description, I recommend to check the things below:
1. Run the PowerShell command below to check the status of the Secure Store Service:
Get-SPServiceInstance |Where {$_.typename -like "Document Conversions Load Balancer Service"}
If it is not showing online, please stop the service first and then start it to see if the issue still occurs (the
<ServiceGUID> can be obtained obtained from the command above).
Stop the service:
Stop-SPServiceInstance -Identity <ServiceGUID>
Start the service:
Start-SPServiceInstance -Identity <ServiceGUID>
2. Check the ULS log for detailed error message.
For SharePoint 2013, by default, ULS log is at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS.

SharePoint Product configuration wizard cannot Register "Document conversion Launcher Server"

Each time I run the SharePoint configuration wizard, it stop at the following step:-
It will mentioned that it install the document conversion service, but while registering it , the wizard will stop and it will raise a timeout exception.
Also when I tried to start the Document conversion related services from central administration, it showed that they are stopped and I cannot start them:-

Please provide more detailed information about the error you met, and you can check the log file to find more information about this issue. The path of the log file is : C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS.
In addition, in Registry, Add a new key named "AcknowledgedRunningOnAppServer" of DWORD type at the below mentioned locations.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\version\LauncherSettings
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\version\LoadBalancerSettings
Set the value to 1.
Restart the System.

Conversion Server Specification

We intend to use SEAL solutions for file conversion into RH. We understand we would need a conversion server for this. But not sure what configuration/specification this conversion server should possess. Any info on this??

Conversion Engine is 80% basis set up. They will be able to size it and set it up based on some data you give such as required availability, Number of documents to be converted on a daily basis, Types of documents to be converted, (Example Word to PDF, CAD files to RH like you requirement), etc keep in mind that you have to purchase additional licenses for each converter.
On your end there will be some configuration required such as at what status do you want to trigger the conversion, etc, if you are hiring SEAL consultants to set it up they can do it for you as well. They also provide the required documentation.

OCS 9.0.4.1 installed on three machines: infrastructure and storage on the first SPARC Solaris 9, midletier on the second SPARC Solaris 9, and Voice Conversion and Document Conversion Servers version 2.0.4.2.0 on the Windows 2000 Server. Dialogic card D/41h is installed on Windows machine with Dialogic drivers SR5.1.1. Dialogic tests run successfully.
Dialogic card is connected to one PSTN analog line. Dialogic card is enabled manually (as recommended).
"imtctl runtests" result for voiceconvtest is "false" and for docconvtest is "true". Document conversion works. Voice conversion fails.
"imtctl getmonitorstats" on machine with conversion servers shows:
"voiceconv available - true
T1-line-status - false
In-use-channels - 0
Idle-channels - 0
Bad-channels - 0 "
Then, if I try to enable voice streaming or record voice stream and push "connect" button, I get a message "Connection failed: An unknown error occurred while connecting to the voice streaming service". After that, I found the following exception message in "Monitor -> Conference details" log in administrator web interface:

This exception message is presented just after "dialin-status - dialing" message in log.
InstanceLocation parameter values on both midtier and voice conversion servers are the same.
Bouncing midtier and voice conversion servers gives no results.
Please help me to understand what's wrong and what do I need to set up to get correctly operating Voice Conversion Server.

I do not belive the you could run it without hacks. VMware peratty well isolate/subsitute the environment. What differs MAC from a PC is the BIOS. OS X just makes some calls into EFI/NVRAM to check if it run on accepted hardware. VMware hacks to run OS X are to boot from special EFI which pretend MAC. In other words VMware emulate only PC virtual machine, I have never heard of MAC virutal machine for any virtualization software.

Conversion server for CATIA V5

Hi,
is it mandatory to install a conversion server along with SAP PLM 7.01. I understand the conversion server is used for converting CAD specific files to neutral formats like RH / STEP / IGES. These files (*.RH) can then be used for the CAD viewer in PLM document (SAP PLM 7.01).
Can't the CAD files (*.catprt / autocad files/ solidworks files) be directly visualised using the RH viewer.
Is there any official site which mentions file formats to be used directly with RH viewer (without conversion server)

PDF's to Blackberry display "Document Conversion Failed"

We are on XI 3.1 - Blackberry's are displaying "Document Conversion Failed" when trying to open PDF documents that were emailed from the Business Objects scheduler running Webi reports. These same PDF documents can be viewed on the desktop machines using Outlook. Does anyone know of any missing software or if configuration changes are needed on the Blackeberry?
Any response would be greatly appreciated.

UCM -IBR document Conversion

I have configured UCM and IBR for Document conversion. When ever i am check in any configured file in UCM it is showing in UCM an well in IBR converted. The issue is how do i access the converted document and where do I find the converted document.

Converted document is what you will see in the web url on content information page in UCM server .
Mostly content is converted to pdf format so that the web url would show the path to this content . It will be placed in /weblayout location .

Why does reindex documents at Server in the Configuration Manager break the help system?

Background:
So, I have a nice hosted help system on Server 9. I'm using the Access database since it's a light load project. It works OK. All admin features work OK (except groups and users bug, unrelated), including reports on search and usage. So, I have been having a devil of a time making a particular search term work in my project: UTS. It's an acronym for a system at my work, and it's important that users be able to search on it. UTS is in several Heading 1s. It's not in the stop list as a typo. Just to be sure, I deleted the whole stop list. I added "UTS" as a topic keyword. It still refuses to find any results. Also, I've noticed some other peculiarities with search: the "context" displayed below the search result is supposed to show the word you searched for in its context, but it never does in my search results. It just shows the first words of the document it's listed as a hit in search. The search is not bad, but these two bugs were odd enough to me to start rooting around for solutions.
So, I run Server 9 on Windows Server 2008 R2 with Tomcat 7 and JDK 7u17.
The problem:
I noticed in all the Server documentation that Adobe crows about the wonderful full text search powered by Lucene, and how it's checked "on" by default in all contexts. It's not in mine. When I check "reindex documents at server," it breaks the project. Literally--Server can't find the project anymore, web calls come back with no answer. Uncheck the box, A-OK. So, why is this wonderful search technology not available to me? Is it because it's not available when using default Access? Or is something else going on here?

The problem is that my data collection software (VisualPlant by EMT) is unable to browse to the National Instruments.LookoutOPCServer. When I added an Identification category to the registry entry for the lookout OPC server I was able to connect but with some odd behavior. My setup is:
2 machines each running Win NT4 SP6a. One machine is running Lookout as well as several other OPC servers. The other is running my data collection software. I am able to connect to lookout using several client apps on my data collection machine (Kepware's Quick Client, and Matrikon's Client), however my data collection software (VisualPlant) cannot see Lookout. Using the NI server explorer and viewing the properties of all of my OPC servers I noticed that Lookout was the on
ly one listed that did not have a CatID. By modifying the registry and adding the ID's listed in my original note I was able to connect using VisualPlant, however this exibited some odd behavior. It appears that adding this setting prevents multiple OPC connections to Lookout. If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

To save a word/xls document from server machine to client

Hi Folks,
I am facing a problem in storing a document from server to client machine.
I have a document in Oracle database BLOB column and i am able to read and open that document in client browser. But it is stored in the server machine when accessing from the client browser it is opening as a read only copy.
I want to open it as editable copy in client machine and once it is edited i want to save back to the databse. But it can be stored in server or client machine without promting to the user.
Any one can help me?

Hi, I am wondering whether this will take time for a document/image which is about 3, 4 MB??? Cos customer has to scan documents one by one and the saving of the file in the DB and then using that to transfer to MSMQ (which is the requirement) should take less time than scanning 2 documents.

Content Conversion Server

Where does Content Conversion Server fit in? Is it required to be installed first before you install any of the other components? (Records Management, UCM, etc.)
If you purchase UCM is Content Conversion Server included as well?

Content Conversion Server is next generation Inbound Refinery (if you are familiar with that). It can run alone and it communicates to the content server through the provider interface. It is not required for UCM to install correctly. However, if you want thumbnailing, PDF Conversion, XML, TIFF, and the DAM conversion capabilities you need it.
Inbound Refinery does come with UCM but must be run on the same licensed CPU as UCM. This may be OK for test or dev instances but is not recommended for production. Therefore Content Conversion Server is able to be licensed separately from the other ECM software so it can run on / in its own environment.

Allow users to Download documents from server

Hello Everybody,
I am working on an Flex application where I have to allow the
users to Open/Save documents such as Word document, Excel sheet,
PDFs, Jpeg, Media files (any digital format document) when a user
clicks on a link present in a Flex application. To do this I am
using the navigateToURL() method and simply passing the URL string
as a URLRequest to the navigateToURL method. This works fine but
whenenver the link is invoked and the user selects to Save the
Excel sheet or any document it displays an unwanted browser window
behind the Open/Save/Cancel dialog box saying action cancelled.
I can not use "_self" as I require the Flex application to
run as is. I tried using the javascript:window.open() but this did
not work.
1) Is there a process to stop the browser window from
opening?
2) How can we invoke a javascript using navigateToURL(), I
tried to invoke javascript.alert('Ok') and also
javascript:window.open() both did not function.
3) Is there any other method or flex classes etc. to invoke
external applications (allow to download documents from server)?

You could use the file download functionality. This is from
the docs:
You can let users download files from a server using the
FileReference.download() method, which takes two parameters:
request and defaultFileName. The first parameter is the URLRequest
object that contains the URL of the file to download. The second
parameter is optional--it lets you specify a default filename that
appears in the download file dialog box. If you omit the second
parameter, defaultFileName, the filename from the specified URL is
used.
The following code downloads a file named index.xml from the
same directory as the SWF document:
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("index.xml");
var fileRef:FileReference = new FileReference();
fileRef.download(request);
To set the default name to currentnews.xml instead of
index.xml, specify the defaultFileName parameter, as the following
snippet shows:
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("index.xml");
var fileToDownload:FileReference = new FileReference();
fileToDownload.download(request, "currentnews.xml");
I think this will accomplish what you are trying to do.

The Document Management features described in the Workflow Guide and the associated screens are reserved for future use, this feature is not currently available. This was not in the original Workflow Guide, a documentation update was released via Metalink with this update.
The Oracle Workflow product will provide Document Management integration via iFS in future releases, there is a whitepaper on the OTN iFS website describing how you can get this documentation to work right now. You can also linnk to documents from notifications right now using hyperlinks.

3. Can temporary tables be used within a function.Unfortunately yes, but they shouldn't be unless you are in a slowest application competition.

SQL Server for last 9 years thats why i refer this toolThat is not in itself a problem, if you try and do what you did in SQLServer in Oracle, that will be a problem though.
