Document displays ok in Acrobat 8 (Mac), but not in Acrobat X (Mac)

I got a pdf document from a friend and, upon opening in X Pro (for Mac), at least 98% of the text is gone.
Opening the exact same file in ver. 8 (for Mac), it displays properly.
I've never encountered this problem before - any suggestions?
Here's a screen shot of the same page of the document in the 2 versions (Ver 8 on left, Ver X Pro on right).

I have no idea. Why would it work in previous versions of Pro? Doesn't make sense to me that they would change the character encoding this late in the products lifecycle.

  • V 3.2 v2 now has problems with layouts, displays images fine in IE10, Firefox but not in Chrome...

Images placed in a page are not displaying in the same places in the design view on the rendered Chrome page, they are perfect in IE 10 and Firefox but not chrome / safari (ipad)?
In other words I cant get all the browsers to render the same, in order to get one set to work I have to position images one way and then they dont work in the other browsers? it doesnt make much sense but i cant seem to figure it out and need urgent help!
    see here: http://www.nalpeiron.com/--analytics-solutions-by-role--.html
this has been setup to work with chrome, but in the design view you have to place the images in totally wrong places to get them to show correctly....
if you review in ie/firefox you can see the problem!
    Ideas?

Every browser will potentially line break the same text with the same formatting differently due to subtle differences in the text layout engines between browsers, so the inline graphic approach is generally the best approach for achieving completely reliable results.
The reason the difference was so dramatic between IE or Firefox versus Chrome or Safari is that Chrome and Safari are based on Webkit and Webkit rounds percentage leading to a whole pixel value where as IE and Firefox interpret percentage leading as a fractional pixel amount, if necessary. This means line spacing for text with leading that's specified as a percentage will be substantially different between IE/Firefox and Chrome/Safari. You can avoid this by entering a pixel value (i.e. "14 px" for leading in the Control Strip or Text panel in Muse.

  • Allow a document to be viewed in the browser but not downloaded to the local machine

I have SharePoint 2013 deployed and RMS integration enabled. and am willing to install Office Web Apps. I want to enable users to view documents in the browser only but not be able to download them to their desktops. This would mean there is no "save
as" button in the browser-based viewer and no ability to download the documents to the desktop to be used with the desktop Office apps (word, Excel, etc.).
I understand that I need RMS and Office Web Apps to do this. Could someone please confirm if I'm able to accomplish the goal above and, if so, how I do it?
Thanks very much in advance for your help.

When you enable OWA. you can read the file online and edit it
The only way to allow users to read but not edit or print a file would be to implement Windows Rights Management.  You can read about that here:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms458245.aspx
It won't be doable with SharePoint permissions only as, even with read only, the documents is still downloaded to the client cache to read and as such can still be retrieved from there.
You need to follow below steps for IRM

  • Document library: user can see the metadata but not the file itself

    Hello,
For a specific document library certain users will have the right to see the metadata but not the file itself. The only solution I can  think of is using a http handler. But I don't know if I can get the user that requests the document.
Are there any other approaches to this requirement?
Can I get the username of the user that makes that request?
I guess that http handler is deployed at the Web application level - am I right?
    Thank you

Nicolas, thank you for your answer.
I think this this is not a strong protection. Everybody can istall sp designer or go through UNC path, like \\myserver\documentlibray or \\myserver\lists\mylist and see the documents- and we use unc paths a lot. I don't want to get into trouble when a (wiki)
    leak is made.

  • Window Arrange New Window for (Document name) is not creating a floating document? It works on my PC, but not my Mac (Mavericks).

So I know this command is supposed to create that document in a new window and have it float ontop of the original document. It (the new window for the document) is supposed to stay in front of anything on the application frame, like the UI does. But on my mac it keeps going into the background when I click onto a different document. I don't know why it does that. This command works fine on my PC.

  • Subtitles suddenly displaying by default on burned DVD but not in simulator

Hello, subtitles which normally did not display until they were selected 'on' from a menu choice in the DVD are suddenly automatically being displayed by default when played on a stand alone DVD player for a television.
The subtitles however do not show up by default in the DVD Studio Pro simulator nor when I play from a 'build' folder using the Mac DVD player. Also, burned DVD's do not display the subtitles by default on two of my Macintosh systems when played with DVD Player (Macbook Pro and Powerbook G4 both running Leopard) yet the subtitles do display by default on a stand alone DVD player.
I have 'force display' off on the subtitle track (applied to whole subtitle stream).
I created brand new builds and can't figure out why this is suddenly occurring. I opened up very old projects and rebuilt them and they exhibit the same problems.
Anyone with any ideas? I recently upgraded from 10.4.11 to Leopard - is it possible that that would have caused the problem. Thank you.

I have not changed any settings on my set top Panasonic DVD player. The set top box can display subtitles but typically only does so when I choose it from a menu. This just started happening 2 days ago.
The same is occurring on another person's stand alone DVD player so I am fairly certain something is going on with the DVD build. The only major change I did recently was upgrade to Leopard and install the Apple software updates. There doesn't seem to be a preference or setting to display all subtitles in DVD Studio Pro - I am at a loss why this is doing this even with older projects that have worked perfectly and not been modified (just rebuilt and burned).

  • Is there a way to display the legend for a chart, but not the chart?

    Hi,
I have a stacked column chart and a line chart on top of each other.   I can't use the legend for the stacked column chart because the data will change from month to month, and the 2 charts will not be aligned.  I copied the stacked column chart to another part of the canvas and want to display only the legend, but the chart is still displaying.  Is there a way to prevent the chart from displaying?    Thanks.

    hi Jim Wojewnik,
we can show only the legend in a pie chart by dragging the edges to closer.do the following,
select the pie chart, select the edge of the chart and make it small and u ll find the pie chart shrinking.make it lean such that the pie chart disappear.
try this work around and let me know.
    regards,
    ravi.

  • Reports display when ran from admin console but not when following link

We are running SCCM 2007.  I am encountering a strange issue with running reports.  I have the admin console running on my workstation and I can run all reports fine.  They display in IE the way they should.  However... If I select the
"Email" option for the top of the report and e-mail a link to myself to the exact same report I get a HTTP 500 error.  Also, I can not connect to the reporting site through a web browser.  If I connect to http://sccmserver/SMSReporting_ABC
it displays the SCCM logo in the top left corner, the "Welcome to the SYstems Management Server Report Viewer" heading and explanation on the right but it displays a HTTP 500 error in the left hand pane.  Any idea what I may have misconfigured?
    Thanks!

Which reports are you use ASP or SSRS?
http://sccmserver/SMSReporting_ABC is ASP report and NOT SSRS and I don't recommend that you use ASP reporting any more. It just has too many problems.

When using Fire Fox to view documents at my company's website, the following message occurs:
"ERROR: JAS MiscUtils AX Control not installed!"
This error does not occur when I use I.E.

That error message probably refers to a missing ActiveX control, which is why it doesn't work in Firefox but does in Internet Explorer.

OR AT LEAST BE MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR REALLY HEAVY STUFF?
If you press the MacBook Pro like a desktop machine, it will blow fans like a hurricane but will do the job eventually.
The longer you blow fans on a laptop, the sooner it clogs up with crippling dust and shortens the life of the machine.
You'll need the top end 15" or better, not the 13" as it has no dedicated graphics, only CPU graphics.
Preferably if you just now getting into video, you should be considering Avid on a Windows 7 tower, it's because Apple has been ignoring the MacPro for hardware updates to improve it and it seems like they don't want to carry it anymore. Also the last Final Cut Pro version had Hollywood up in arms as Apple removed a lot of required abilities to make it more "consumer friendly" which upset the Pro market who likes control.
Apple is focusing on the consumer computing market and getting away from the "Pro" market which needs the heavier hardware to handle video needs. They stopped selling the X-RAID and the X-Server, so Apple really isn't a "computer" company any longer.
Sure you can use a MacBook Pro and a external monitor for doing home movies and such occasionally, but if your into serious production you need to consdier other options now.
There is nothing wrong in getting a MacBook Air and a Windows 7 professional video tower too.
