Document info fields in Word won't update when placed in document header-section

Dear all,
I have a document library using 3 Content Types with metadata columns and a Word-template.
The values of these metadata columns should be displayed within the Word-documents created from content type.
So I've inserted document info fields into the Word-template to display them.
But unfortunately the placeholders are not updated when opening the document again, after metadata values had been changed e.g. by using the edit-form within the list.
From what I have seen so far, this only refers to document info fields resident in header or footer sections.
But this is where I need to place them.
Does anybody know this issue and has an idea of how to fix it?
Could VBA be of use here?
Best regards,
Ben

Hi,
Based on your description, document info fields in Word won't update when placed in document header-section.
Per my test, document info fields in Word will update when placed in document header-section.
Refer to the following article about Add SharePoint Metadata to Word Documents:

If I misunderstanding the issue, Please offer a screenshot about your issue.

  • Title field clearing / going blank on updates to Office 2010+ documents

Hi guys. I am having a problem where the Title property on a document (or more specifically any docx or xlsx document) using a certain content type is being made blank when a user edits the document. There are no event receivers and no workflows running
on the document. Here are the steps that recreate it for any document that uses my custom content type:
    1) Upload a docx file into a library, populating the title field.
    2) Check in.
    3) Go to edit the item - in this case force check-out is in place so it checks out the document.
    4) Change another property. Hit save.
    5) The title field is now blank!
This only does it on my content type (or any that inherit from it), but I've tested it on 3 different servers with varying degrees of updates and it's the same result every time. There is nothing special about the content type (it inherits from Document)
and just has a few extra fields in it. I have not included the contents of the elements file used to define it for brevity but happy to provide if needed. Any ideas are welcome.
    Many thanks,
    Mike

That seems like it's defeating the purpose.  First, we're on an Exchange server that is on our domain.  Second, I'm trying to eliminate end-user input, this method would increase end-user input.  Also, our Exchange server is 2003, from what
I'm reading here the autodiscover service wasn't added until Exchange 2007.

  • Word / SP 2013 crash when saving a document

    Hi,
I have been having an issue at my organization with SharePoint Foundation 2013 and Word 2013. Basically when a user clicks save to upload their changes to SharePoint the document closes and word opens a blank document. All changes that the user made have
been lost and there is no recovery document. This does not happen on every save which makes reproducing the error rather difficult and tracking it down in the logs is almost impossible!
The SharePoint server is running on a Server 2008 VM and is using SQL server 2012. The server has 1 vCPU and 12GB of RAM. On average we only have 5 or 6 people using SharePoint at any one time.
Has anyone had this issue and if so, suggest a course of action? I can supply more information if required.
    Your assistance is appreciated!

The only 4 suggestions that I have based upon the current information:
    * clean all kind of caches. %temp% & temporary internet files etc. (maybe you can use ccleaner from pirisoft to perform this action.)
    * Ensure that your installed all updates. (server side incl. SharePoint updates and client side including office updates)
    * are you perhaps using Office 2013 the 64 bits version? (from client side perspective) Maybe you can try the more stable Office 2013 32 bits. (I'm not talking about the OS but the Office version.
    * and check it in a vanilla installation ensures you that you know it is a OR a SharePoint OR a client side problem

And why not? Apple is selling these things like BigMacs. They can't make enough of them. You've been suffering since May because you refuse to get a decent router.
Can you imagine if a company that makes a refrigerator told me that I needed to upgrade my electrical system to rectify a problem with their device? What kind of response IS that?!?!
What if the problem with their device is that it requires a new-fangled "grounded" outlet and your circa 1890 house doesn't have grounded outlets. Would you refuse to purchase a $ 25 adapter on principle?

  • Mail won't update when I'm not using it..

    Hi guys,
I have been having some trouble with my Mail, I use hotmail and the mail app on iPhones just recently it hasn't been updating when I'm not in the app, so I have been missing a lot of emails and they haven't been showing and only show when I go on the app and refresh it manually! It used to do it automatically but now it's stopped, I might of clicked something on settings but I'm not sure what! Not sure if this makes a difference I put on airplane mode through the night (something I have always done anyway) when I first turn off all the mail comes through automatically then from the night time however after this I get nothing without manually going into the app! If anyone can help me sort this I would be very grateful.

  • Word Links not updating when row number changes in excel

    Hi,
I have a huge excel file with employee name, code, dob etc as fields.I linked it to word documents using paste special and macros.Everything works fine and word also updates with changes in excel file, but problem arises when in excel , data is added in the
middle rather than at the end of the file. This changes the row numbers of all the employees.Hence when I  open corresponding word document, some one else's details open. So now i have to edit links in word...office->prepare->edit links, Here i
have an option called ITEM IN FILES... this is where the problem occurs...It requires mentioning the row no of the corresponding pasted link...but when i change data in excel and row no changes...this should be automatically detected by Word and row number
should be updated there. Please help me find a way to resolve this. This is what it looks like....
     Data for VC!R1C2:R2C13
I want R1 and R2 to change automatically if I change rows in excel file.
    Thank you

Instead of specifying a cell range in the LINK field, name the range in Excel, then use the range name in the LINK field.
    For example, instead of:
    VC!R1C2:R2C13
    you might have:
    VC!MyRange
    in Word.
That way, the LINK will point to the named range, regardless of how many rows and/or columns are added/deleted before it. Furthermore, if you expand or contract the range (e.g. by adding/deleting columns between the first & last column), the
named range and, hence the linked range, will likewise expand/contract.

  • Layered text and graphic in Word won't display when converted to PDF

I have several simple shapes with text layered in front in my Word document. After they are converted to PDF using Acrobat XI, only the shape will display. I can tell the text is still there, because I can use my cursor tool to select it, but it won't display visually. It looks like it isn't there but it really is. One bit of text is even an internal link, and the link still works but I can't see the text I'm clicking on.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it.
    Thank you,

Hi Lori - this was perfect! It was an issue with the layers being misordered. I used the Edit Text & Images tool listed under Tools > Content Editing, found the layers, then by right-clicking I was able to bring the text to the front and it all looks great now.
I would like to know why this happened, or if not why, how I could make sure it doesn't happen again. If there's a check box or other setting I could use to remove this problem that would be fantastic.
Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction!

  • Spry menu bar won't update when published

I am building a dreamweaver webpage though a template.
for some reason it will not change the spry menu bar to update the changes made to the links on it.
that and the links won't work on the website (i uploaded it to a test website).
I am not sure if it is the same problem.
I changed the links from site to document relative.
I also checked the codes in http://validator.w3.org/check and http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ .
I also read this link and it didn't help me http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/paths-dreamweaver-templates.html .
    Can someone help please!
    Thank you

I am not sure why that will not upload to the site correctly.
I am uploading to a godaddy server. Is there a way I should be saving things (links and such) that I might be doing wrong? am I naming my links incorrectly? how do I make them so they will work once uploaded.
I followed the suggestions that you made and it looks like it is there but for somereason when i preview the page in a browser or live view the background image (parchment) doesn't show up on the screen.and the spry menu bar only comes up as an unordered list.  I am not sure what would be causing this.
I have attached the code for 2 pages the first is the code of the  template test file you suggested I make and the second is the code for the education connection page (this is a page that was made from the template and the background image is not working-i had this problem before but i thought it was fixed as the website has it fixed when i published it)

these rules, with the exception of the images used for down or right pointing arrows, which are in the file SpryMenuBasic.css
These assume the following widget classes for menu layout (set in a preset)
.MenuBar - Applies to all menubars - default is horizontal bar, all submenus are vertical - 2nd level subs and beyond are pull-right.
.MenuBarVertical - vertical main bar; all submenus are pull-right.
You can also pass in extra classnames to set your desired top level menu bar layout. Normally, these are set by using a preset.
They only apply to horizontal menu bars:
MenuBarLeftShrink - The menu bar will be horizontally 'shrinkwrapped' to be just large enough to hold its items, and left aligned
MenuBarRightShrink - Just like MenuBarLeftShrink, but right aligned
MenuBarFixedLeft - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedLeft', and left aligned.
MenuBarFixedCentered -  - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedCentered',
and centered in its parent container.
MenuBarFullwidth - Grows to fill its parent container width.
In general, all rules specified in this file are prefixed by #MenuBar so they only apply to instances of the widget inserted along
with the rules. This permits use of multiple MenuBarBasic widgets on the same page with different layouts. Because of IE6 limitations,
there are a few rules where this was not possible. Those rules are so noted in comments.

    /* BeginOAWidget_Instance_2141544: #MenuBar */
/* Settable values for skinning a Basic menu via presets. If presets are not sufficient, most skinning should be done in
these rules, with the exception of the images used for down or right pointing arrows, which are in the file SpryMenuBasic.css

  • Word won't start when 'double-clicking' .doc file

I installed Microsoft Office X, (and removed the trial version that came with the machine). It runs fine if I start up the application and then open a file. However, if the application isn't running, and I double-click on a .doc file, I get an error message and Word doesn't start up.
(By the way, when I first installed it, the same operation would start up the 'trial version'...so I used the microsoft remove program to eliminate it.)

go to the .doc file.. get info in it.
go to "Open with" select the new Microsoft Office, then click on the "Change All..." button.
now all .doc files will be associated with the new install of Office.

  • A playlist that I update on my ipod won't update when I connect my ipod to itunes

I have been using my Ipod Touch 3rd generation to create playlists. The playlists show up fine and play on the ipod, but when I connect the ipod to itunes, and click on the playlist, it does not reflect the changes made on the ipod. I have the ipod set to manually manage, so when I disconnect the ipod the songs are still on the ipod, but why won't they show up on itunes?
I also deleted some tv shows off of the ipod by way of itunes, but when i disconnected the ipod, they were still listed on the ipod, although they would not play. So somehow, my itunes and ipod are not communicating with eachother. Any ideas/fixes?

    Hey BingHuo,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPod will sync but not charge while connected. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • 8300 won't update when it arrives in new time zone

I have tried setting time source "network" and "Blackberry" but in either case, when I get to the new time zone the time on phone is from home local and does not update.  On Date/Time page network time is displayed for all locations but on front screen time is not updated.
