  • Documents managment: what do you use?

I've been trying to find a good document manager to organise the mess I have in articles, lecture notes, books, etc, mostly in pdf format. So I need a tool like Referencer (http://icculus.org/referencer/) or gPapers (http://gpapers.org/) that could help me with that. Lamentably, both of them have a large list of dependencies, like hal and some gnome stuff, I would like to avoid. So I wander if any of you knows about some other, less bloated, tool to do the job.
Maybe one of you have made a nice little script to retrieve BibTeX citations plus a database, or something along those lines.
So, what do you use to organise your bibliography?

itsbrad212 wrote:The only documents I read are pdf's, so I use either mupdf or zathura for that.
EDIT: Wouldn't this fit better in Off-Topic, as this is in the section for requesting help?
I am asking for help. Despite the title, this wasn't meant to be a poll, and for sure not about document readers, but I get where the confusion arises.
So far it seems mendeley is the closest thing to what I'm looking for, it looks fairly complete. But I dislike 2 things, it being closed source and the need to create an account to use the full featured program. I think I will use it though, at least while I find a replacement or make some time to write a script to retrieve the bibtex citations from internet.
I won't mark the thread as solved in case someone else knows about a good way to manage bibliographic material.

  • IE9, Win7: How to get rid of "What do you want to do with ...doc? Open, Save, Save as

My web application downloads a .doc file.  With IE9 and Windows 7 it displays the dialog "What do you want to do with xxxx.doc? Open, Save, Save as"  Prior to IE9 I could check the box that said "remember" but with IE9 I do not see a way to prevent
the dialog from occurring every time.  How can I turn off this dialog like I can in all prior versions of IE?  I have looked through the forums and the answer might be here but most threads seem to be a little different problem.  Some of my
customers are switching to FireFox and Chrome because of this problem so I would like to find a solution.  I found another thread that had a potential solution (1. Click Tools - Internet Options - Security Tab. 2. Click Local intranet, click Sites, uncheck
"Automatically detect intranet network" if you checked it. Then check "Include all network paths (UNCs)".  Click Advanced, add the intranet to the zone. Then Close and OK.) but that did not solve my problem.

    Hi,
Based my research, due to increasing in security, we cannot disable Download Manager of Internet Explorer 9 from changing settings, editing registry keys or editing settings in Group Policy. This can prevent websites downloading automatically. Instead, we can
    set default download location.
    For reference:

    Hope this helps.

How do you specify what format you want the song to download in?

In preferences set up your import settings, then right click on the tracks you need in a different format and use Create < Format> Version. New copies will be created in the target format.

  • Homesite Future - What would you want changed?

There have been threads debating whether HomeSite was
orphaned or whether it would be upgraded or not. Since none of us
know, those are mainly ways we've all been expressing our
    frustration.
Someone pointed out to me recently how useful HomeSite is
even now "as it is" (which I knew of course), but he also
enumerated some good arguments why there might not be much demand
for HomeSite to be upgraded. If fact he has trouble sometimes
convincing people to upgrade from HS 4.5, even when they already
have HS 5.5+ on a DW CD. While I disagree on some of his arguments,
he has a good point that
putting development resources into doing an upgrade only makes
sense for Adobe if there are compelling enough reasons for users to
pay to buy the new version.
Anyway, I have no idea if this is how Adobe is thinking, or
really what they are thinking at all, but I thought I'd start a
thread to see what you all think on this question.
What updates, features or fixes to HomeSite would you be most
    interested in?
(to the point of being willing to pay for an upgrade,
    assuming cost is reasonable)
Or some more detailed rephrasings that might jog your mind:
    - What things would you be willing to pay (a reasonable amt) to
    upgrade to get?
    - Or what things would make you look elsewhere because they
    aren't in HomeSite?
    - What bugs or things about HS drive you nuts?
    - What do you need/want to do in HomeSite that can't be done
    using it's extensions?
So, anyone willing to put some thought into it? Please be
honest, not just posting little gripes, or things that would be
nice, but that you wouldn't be willing to shell out some $ for.
(you can post those things too, but please note which are which.)
And let's keep the scope here on this, not on the broader
arguments about whether Adobe will or should do patches or upgrades
or whether their dogs have fleas. We can use other threads for
    that. ok? ;-)
    thanks!!
    jeff
p.s. No, this isn't Adobe's way of doing a user survey on the
cheap, it's just me posting to see what you all care about.
If it gives them motivation to do something - great, but this
is for us to talk together about what you think really *needs*
    improvement in HS.

The most important change for me would be the capability to
    use Unicode.
Neither editor I use (HS and Topstyle) support Unicode. The
    first to do
this will draw many users from the other. This lack of
    Unicode is a
    major stumbling block to me.

    Hey @Antonnew ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're having some issues with the webcam on your Pavilion x2 notebook.
You should see a preview of your photo before you take it. Which program are you using to take the pictures? If you're not using the CyberLink YouCam software please try that.
Also, are you using the rear facing camera or the front facing camera? Is it the same issues with both?
    Thanks!

  • Deep-dive on the #RetroThinkPad - what do you want under the hood?

Your say is needed, more than ever. Let us know what you want.

I don't know that there is a "better" place to post this question since you seem to be wide open to possibilities. I think an iMac would be a good choice. It already is a CD/DVD player & you can access internet radio through iTunes. For over-the-air (OTA) radio you could get the Griffin Radio Shark. For OTA TV, Elgato gets high praise. Formac also has some options, but they tend to be more expensive.

  • What might you want to put in an InterruptedException catch?

The purpose of this post is to clarify
    A) the operation of InterruptedExceptions, and
    B) the purpose of InterruptedExceptions
So, tell me if I'm off on this:
Suppose you have this thread that goes to sleep. It's interrupted. When it comes to (i.e. no longer interrupted and gets thread priority), the code in the catch for the InterruptedException is run.
SO, my question is, what would you put in the catch? Would you use it to reestablish lost connections or find things that might have moved, or, knowing the source of the interruption, take it as some kind of crude kludgy communication ...???
What is supposed to go in there? I've been blithely putting blank catches in like so -
    try {
      Thread.currentThread.sleep(4000);
} catch (InterruptedException ie) {;}and I just want to make sure that this is not skipping out on something important.

and I just want to make sure that this is not skipping
out on something important. The only thing I can think that should go in there is a comment that explicitly says you are ignoring the exception. It might also help to say why you are ignoring it. That way if someone needs to fix your code in the future they will realize that you actually knew how to code defensively and you knew the conditions for that exception could be safely ignored.

  • Tell us here what changes you want to see in the SpeedGrade forum.

Welcome to the new SpeedGrade user-to-user forum.
We're just getting started here, so there are very likely things that we'll need to add or change to make this forum as useful as it can be for you. Let us know what changes you'd like to see.
Content from the previous IRIDAS SpeedGrade forum has not been ported to this new forum.
If there is content from that forum that you would like to see made available, let us know, and we'll see what we can do.

I think we need subsections for the "old" legacy products, pretty much like the old forum was organized.
I understand that this forum is now the official end user forum, right?
We are also interested in seeing a beta forum as well (as we currently see it with other Adobe apps) so we can participate there as well. Please take notice
I am sure that is a LOT of useful information in the old forums. Maybe there is a way of having that old content get consolidated in terms of digest PDF for "new" users to use search within. I don't think it makes a lot of sense to let one dig through thousands of text entries manually to find the useful information, especially as much of this changed over time as "work in progress". Tipps from 2 years ago may be completely useless now with newer tools, and so on. So I vote for pumping out the old content into a PDF or something, so we have that all "at hand". Honestly, as we long term users didn't know of the deal before it happened, all that information was apparently gone before we could "safe it" for our own purposes. Thats what I am looking for right now.
That PDF could be linked in a sticky closed thread like "IRIDAS User Forum content until September 2011" or similar. Just an idea.
    Good luck with the forum!
    Cheers,
    Axel

  • I downloaded lion no problem, installed no problem , but what if you want re install osx leopard , will you have to pay for it again, i can't find the download

How can you recover the download

Nobody is answering - I think you meant "How can I recover/save/reinstall Lion" if I need to.
Couple things: always keep backups, and include a bootable (clone) backup.
There are articles on Lion Recovery and to install Lion to another drive; to save the installer; to burn a DVD with Lion; and, to maintain and keep Snow Leopard (OP said Leo but I would HOPE everyone knew their intended OS was SL and not just plain olde 10.5 Leo). You had to have SL DVD to even buy Lion.
How to create an OS X Lion installation disc MacFixIt
How to keep Snow Leopard when upgrading to Lion
OS X Lion Install to Different Drive
Upgrading to Mac OS X Lion Protocol
Using Cloning as a Backup Strategy
So backup. Then you can either upgrade, or do a clean install too (and make sure to save the Lion DMG before you do the Install w/ restart as it will get deleted and removed from your system unfortunately - wish like iTunes it would ask "Do you want to save to DVD now?"

  • What do you want from the next version of CS review?

The concept for CS review is awesome and the current functionality looks to be a solid foundation ready for growth. I'm hoping that the product catches on and continues to mature at a decent pace. Are there other features that you would need in order for you to rely on it as part of your everyday workflow?
Here's a few feature requests from my wishlist. Please feel free to add your own.
    Ability to download a review
My clients typically want to "walk designs around" to the execs in the early stages of a product and then embed examples into larger documents toward the later phases of the project.
    Visual overview
I find myself getting lost in larger presentations. "was that example on page 7, 8 or 9 of the review?" I'd love to see a thumbnail overview (the ability to mouseover a thumbnail and see comments would be very useful as well). I currently use "print summary" on workspaces and folders very often in conceptshare to get a birds eye view of everything.
    Long term organization?
With no ability to version or archive reviews, what happens after using CS live for a year or more with multiple clients on multiple projects? only time will tell how big of an issue this is.

Cheaper HD films as £4.99 is a RIP off and also more HD content.
For £4.99 I'd expect to be able to save it and watch it when I wanted. The idea of paying that much and only being able to watch it during a 24 hour window is crazy......
Also, while I can understand why BT would make a charge for recent HD films I can't understand why there is no free HD content i.e. TV programmes (which would have been available free via an aerial if you lived in the right area and had an HD tuner....) and older films. And maybe this should be a concession offered by BT while they are faffing around decding what is or isn't happening regarding the Freeview HD BT Vision box.....

  • Tpfancontrol + lenovo Power Manager - what do you use?

    Hi Folks,
I've recently installed tpfancontrol 0.62 on my T410 that has Lenovo Power Manager 6.36.  My machine started shutting down spontaneously (not often - once or twice a day or so).  I'm wondering what version of Power Manager folks have installed, and whether you encounter these issues when you have tpfancontrol installed?
Thanks a bunch.  I've tried uninstalling PM, but it hard to live without fn-f5, fn-f6, etc.
    T410 2516-CTO
    Win 7 Pro x64 SP1

No new T-Series here yet.  I have a couple older ones loaned out.
I'm on the road a lot so I took a liking to the X-Series.  The newest ones are the x-61s.
Make sure that the Hotkeys utility installed the system interface driver .  It'll show up in Programs and Features in Control Panel.
I use this fan control alongside of tpfancontrol.  It just depends on what I want to play with.  It's only for Windows 7 and it works on 64 bit.  I just got it to install on Windows 8 64 bit.
tpfancontrol  installs the tvi port along with the package.  On this one, you have to install the port first and then reboot, then install the fan control.  There's a few bugs in it:  I've never been able to get it to start with Windows, I start it manually from the desktop. Also, when it hands control to bios if the machine gets too hot, it throws an error and shuts itself off.
I think part of the problem with it is that the tvi port that comes with it is an old version, but it has potential.  You can change settings from the UI.
I've never had any shutdowns with either tpfancontrol or this one.

Now Sony Is on Right Track,
Sony xperia Z launching, It will good For Sony Production & Profit.
This is the Thread in Which We can tell Suggestion.
    Here are Question or topic
Q.1 Tell That What You Don't Like In Sony Product.
Q.2 What Needs to Change and What Sony Should Do for Becoming No.1 Mobile/Electric Device/Entertainment Company
Q.3 Here is What Sony Did Wrong?
Q.4 Why People Think 3 times to Buy Sony Product?
Q.5 What Sony Don't have that other Companies Have?

As, Samuel, Said, My turn is first for suggesting.
i m feeling sick at that time, Read all, Bcuz i spend much time in writing, So, My suggestion to Sony.===>>
I Like Sony Quality, The build quality of Sony is good, Looks like Premium,But This is not enough..
The main thing i dont like in Sony that Big or important thing is /Support, In Which Sony is not Doing well
Support,i mean to say, Software support/Service centres support.
There are many handset launched by Sony, But software are not latest, they Delaying the dates,
Which is not Good for Future.
I want to share my Story or u can say,my journey, when i had sony Product,
THIS IS REALLY TRUTH STORY AND TRUTH SUGGESTION
My first Sony Product was Sony xperia Sola,
At that time Latest Software was Ics, But we was on GB(GINGERBREAD),
I have not get Ics Update yet, I know that there is Many way to become install latest software(SPC,SUS,FLASHtl),
When i go To my near Sony Service Centre,I told to Service Guy, That " Please Can u Upgrade gb to ics?"
Then what they Said, "Do that Ur Yourself"
I was anger that time, then i told  "Please My phone not Running Good, i also Tried with SUS,SPC, Then they Said, "we cannot do this,we havent time"
Sony Service centre is Looks like a 1000years Old Jail. even jail is more good then Sony service Centre,
Sony service centre Are not like Samsung service centres,
Sony Indian Service Guys are like Rude behaviour, Like a Criminal...
I also Tried to visit many Sony service Centre, but again i felt this is not fear.
I also have SONY xperia P, S, So,Support is Not out of the BOx... really truth
All service centre in india are like that.. Really, its truth,
This is The Raason Why Sony has Very very less sale than Samsung in India.
Because People Worried to Buy Sony Product, they Not sure, They think 3 times before buying Sony Product,
I have No complaint With Build Quality of Sony,
Samsung shipping/Production to India Is very big in World.
So,Sony need to change it first to Make them Production 20 times better.
Sony Should make Its Orignal Service Centre in Many Places Obviously With Good Service..
If this Low point would be correct in future then No one can beat sony in Future.
Because Support is Main thing in Consumer will happy.....REALLY..
So, My last thing i wanna say...
Sony is going well Now, if this Step accept by Sony, Then
    FUTURE IS SONY::::>>>

  • What if you want to return an app

    Hey,
What if I buy an app for the Iphone and I don't like it can I get a refund or store credit. Since you can't try them out until you buy them it would seem dumb not to.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Message was edited by: peavey5150

There isn't an option for a time-limited demo as the SDK would need to support that. Some of the apps have a similar feature... they are available in both a free version & a for-pay version. However, this is a application developers choice to create two versions, so don't expect it to be widespread, certainly not at launch. However, since most apps are under $10, they are like the checkout aisle items... cheap things that you can try out for very little money.

  • N98 - What would you want

So lets assume that there is no looking back on the N9x series of devices.  N95 was a leader of mobile phones and was 'improved' in the N96.  Now that the N97 has introduced a keyboard plus other improvements in terms of specification, what should the N98 do?
Personally, I am looking forward to the keyboard interface on the N97.  I still use my N95 to send a lot of email and text messages as well as browsing the web.  If the keyboard works well which many people have blogged about and said it does, then it should be a winning feature.
So keep the keyboard on the N98.
By the time that the N98 is becoming available, the devices that are becoming available now such as LED and LASER projectors should be common, small and cheap enough to begin integration into high-end devices such as this.  I would like to see a projector added to the phone.
Add a projector to the phone.
The camera on the N95 and N96 is good but apart from flash improvements (dual LED) the N97 is just going to be the same.  I think it is time that the pixels were increased.
    Increase camera quality.
I was toying with the idea of making the N98 dual screen, a bit like a Nintendo DS.  When the top screen is opened, instead of a keyboard it could reveal a second touch screen interface which, by default, displays a full keyboard.  Touch screen interfaces are improving all the time so by the time such a device is available, it may well be as good as the current N97 keyboard.  It has many advantages including customised layouts and even game specific layouts.  It would make N-Gage gaming much more DS like.  There are many possibilities for having 2 touch screens on a device and maybe you could come up with some more ideas or completely blow the idea out of the water.  All I would say is remember that by the time an N98 would be created, tech will have improved so I don't think arguments against an idea should be "touch screens just aren't as good as real keyboards"because we do not know that.
So finally, should the keyboard be a second touchscreen?
    I think maybe...
Hey, what does that Kudos button do?

My point was that models don't naturally evolve from one to the next, so there is little point speculating what might follow a model that is not even available yet.
The N97 runs alongside the N96, not instead it - each is aimed at a slightly differnet market. N96 is like a stick of English rock, snap it in half and the word "multimedia"  runs right through it. N97 has similar abilities but features touch-screen for those who desire this feature and keypad for E90-style practicality. So far, full flip-out keyboards have appealed to a rather narrow market so far, so Nokia like all manufacturers will be watching how the latest models sell before planning a wide range of similar products.
Touch screen, whether you like them or not, are very much 'en vogue' right now, so it is easy to predict that more of these will come. Also, when you look at the way Nokia is trying to expand online services, it is predictable that they will continue to drive the market for high-capacity devices, whether it be mass memory devices like the two 8Gb models plus N96 and N97 with 16/32Gb respectively, or bundled with high-capacity memory cards like the 5800XM - you can't run that amount of multimedia without supplying devices to take advantage of it.
