Document password forgotton

Help I have a password protected document on pages but have forgotten password

Memory is cyclic. Whether you set the password or someone else told you, it is stored in your mind. The more you concentrate on it, the deeper it will recede. Become as relaxed as you can, without distractions, and consider the following paragraph. Drink a cup of your favorite warm beverage.
Click on your document and press command+I (eye) to Get Info. For the creation date, start playing back that day's events from the time you got up, until the time of file creation. Did anything notable occur that day that would have influenced your password choice? Consider people and/or their birthday, pets, places, characters from a book or performance, foods, beverages, historical objects, or number sequences. Consider how you create passwords.
Just don't concentrate too long on the search and you may have to repeat the above, separated by a break.

  • I have installed adobe pdf to get a document sent to me thru my employer and i put my password in and its still asking me for a document password do i need to set one up

I have installed adobe pdf and put in my password and its still asking me for a document password in which I have no idea what it is

So you put your password in when you installed it?
If that's the case, that was just your administrator password used to allow the install. It has nothing to do with the document.
If the document is asking for a password, you'll need to get that from the person that added a password to the pdf.
If neither of the above helps, please give us more info on what you are attempting to do and what is going wrong. LEtting us know your version of Adobe Reader may also be helpful.

I cannot open a file because it wants a document open password, i dont have one, what do i do?

    Hi dealguy1000,
You will need to ask the person who created the PDF file to provide the Open Document password. I hope you're able to track it down.

  • Numbers repeatedly prompts for document password on every change

When working with a password protected numbers speadsheet stored in iCloud, Numbers suddenly started repeatedly requesting the document's password everytime a change is made to the document.  This constant password prompting renders Numbers unusable.
I've intentionally not allowed Keychain to store the documents password for privacy reasons.
I'm using 10.9 on a Mac Mini with Numbers 3.0.1.
    Please advise,
    Regards,
    Zephyr

Yes it ceases to ask to the password every time a change is made, but that sort of defeats the purpose of protecting the document.
It also seems now that when you select a cell for input, Numbers only takes a single keystroke at a time, as if you hit "1" then hit "enter".  Numbers won't allow multiple keystrokes when editing a cell.
I suspect this may have somthing to do with the way iCloud keeps files in Sync.  This wasn't an issue until today - worked beautifully until now.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Zephyr

where is my open document password?

    Hi dealguy1000,
An Open Document password is set by the person who created the PDF. To open that file, you'll need to ask the person who created it to supply the password.

  • Document password protection not working in Finder or Spotlight

I have set a password protection for my personal journal. I need to enter the password when opening it in Pages 09 HOWEVER if i search for my journal through spotlight or the finder, it opens the journal without entering the password. This means anyone has access to my journal by searching for it.Why is this happening?? Am I not doing something correctly? Thanks in advance.

    I tested under 10.4.11 and 10.5.7.
On my machines, Spotlight is unable to search in password protected Pages documents.
I had a doubt linked to the feature "Include Preview in document" which is disabled on my machines but even when I enable it, Spolight fails to look in the documents.
Maybe your password is registered in Keychain as one allowing automatic opening.

  • Document password restriction

I have mavericks OS X and created a new user due to problems with my older user account.  The genius bar helped move all of my files over to the new user without any problems.  However now when I am on my new user and I go to make any changes to these old files it requires my password any time I make a change.  I have checked the document information and it has my new user listed with read and write permission and my older user is no longer listed and the document is not locked according to the get info screen.  Is there a way to turn off this feature of requiring a password to edit the document or a reason why it is requiring me to input a password each time?

Properly reset a user's permissions and access control lists by following these steps:
Turn on the Mac whilst holding down cmd + R. You can let go once you see a spinning dial. You will then see the ”Mac OS X Utilities” screen.
On the top menu, click Utilities, then click Terminal.
    Type resetpassword and press Enter.
Click on your main hard drive.
In the dropdown box under “Select the user account” make sure to select your username.
Underneath where it says “Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs”, click the Reset button.
Press cmd + Q to quit the Reset Password application.
Press cmd + Q again to quit the Terminal.
Press cmd + Q one more time and click Restart.
Click Mac OS X Utilities in the top left of the screen and click the Restart button.

  • Using OLE/IAC to provide document password on file open

I've run into a little problem when extracting text from the documents. Many of the files have document security enabled, which is causing a NotAllowedError exception in COM. The message of the exception is "Security settings preveent access to this property or method. I do have the password to the documents. Is there a way to EITHER provide the password to the file through AVDoc.Open, another method, or to disable document security on the documents, given the password, using the COM API?

Okay, thanks Irosenth. So, what other options do I have then for supplying the password to the document? Is this possible using any other Methods of the core API that I could just program into the plugin in C#, or anything in the JSObject that could accomplish it??

  • HT4641 Does pages have a document password protection function

Does pages have a password protection function since adobe PDF for IPhone3gs or IPad2 does not?

If you were to think laterally about this, you could also create encrypted archives for just those folders or files you were interested in to minimise the possible harm. Similar to the disk images Magnus suggested, but slightly less trouble. Modern Macs are very fast at unarchiving these files so you can work on them then archive them again without too much trouble.
I am a great fan of those tiny USB harddrives and thumbdrives, which easily slip into your pocket so you can take them with you.
My backup consists of a set of three 4Gb USB thumbdrives for my documents and 3 differently colored USB harddrives for my larger material.
If your work is on these, you simply detach them from your computer and keep them locked up or on your person.
Nobody will be able to access those without bailing you up.
… And of course you can use a combination of any and all of the above suggestions.

  • Document passwords

I am trying to open a document I downloaded from an email. I get the message that it is password protected. I don't remember setting up a password. How do I find out what it is or how do I open this document?

You need the password to open the document.

  • Insert signature after document password protected

Is there a way to insert a signature after the document has been password protected?

I think it would be better if you set it up to use a digital signature. You can add a signature field to the form and the user could sign it. The appearance for the signature could be the same thing as it would be if they placed the signature using the method you pointed out. It could also be set up to lock the document after the signature is placeed, which will prevent others from changing it. The users will need to be informaed about creating or otherwise obtaining a digital ID to use when signing, but this isn't too difficult.
One probelm with e-signing is Acrobat/Reader flattens the form when the document is saved. This prevents the user from revising it if needed. It also removes the form fields and just leaves their appearances, making it very difficult to extract the form data if needed. It also means you can't use security like you want. Digital signatures provide a better way to verify that a particular person signed the document. An e-signature used outside of a service like EchoSign does not provide any level of verification.
Without knowing the specific needs of the cleints of the consultants, it's hard to say for sure what the best approach is.

  • Forgot my document password!

hi, everyone. i forgot the password to my Numbers document. how do i recover the document?
    thanks.

    Hi,
Looking at Numbers Help (in the help menu) and searching 'password', I find no information suggesting it is possible to open a password protected spreadsheet without knowing the password.
Other applications may ignore Numbers password protection (as TextWrangler does), but unless there is a Numbers '09 translator for that application, the results will probably not be readable.
Not much help for the present case, I know, but the lesson for the future is to choose passwords that you will be able to remember, record them somewhere if there's any doubt you will remember them in future, and follow the recommendation from Numbers to write a hint, meaningful to you, when applying a password to a file.
One thing I did learn while checking this—password protection does not prevent you (or anyone else) from deleting the file.
    Regards,
    Barry
