        I need to set Document raster effect settings and Gradient mesh settings as high resolution in Illustrator 10.. Dont no which header file and suites have to use?
       How can i get and set the value of both Document raster effect settings and Gradient mesh settings?
        Pls guide me...

I found Raster resolution values in AIDocumentList.h header file. Raster Resolution values is inside of the AIRasterResolution struct. This AIRasterResolution struct is inside of the AINewDocumentPreset struct.
Dont know how to get and set that Raster resolution of a current document? Pls someone help me.

Drop shadow failing to blur with high document raster effects settings DPI

I have a 1024px square artboard (in Illustrator CS6 16.1.0 running on Mountain Lion 10.8.1) with some fairly simply artwork that has a drop shadow effect applied, shown here at 33% with the Document Raster Effects Settings (DRES) resolution set to 150 DPI:
If I change the DRES resolution to 300 DPI, the blur on the drop shadow disappears entirely:
If I leave the DRES resolution at 300 DPI, but resize the image to make it a little smaller, the blur on the drop shadow comes back:
I’ve wasted several hours already trying to get the desired blurry drop-shadow on the full sized image with the DRES resolution at 300 DPI, to no avail. Does anyone have any idea as to what is going on here, and what I can do to solve this problem?

The Gaussian Blur was rewritten for CS6 and should probably be similar in CC. Your screen shots did not get properly attached. Can you try again to attach them using the Camera icon in the reply window tool bar?

Document Raster Effects Settings? I can't find it!

I am using Illustrator CS5. I am looking for the document raster effects settings. I think they are at 72DPI because my drop shadows on my images are pixelated when I print out my design.
I want to change the document raster effect to 300DPI.
I googled it and in CS4 it was under the effects menu but in CS5 I don't have the effects menu anymore. It is under Objects->Effects but I don't see the document raster effects settings anywhere.
Any ideas?

You are showing us a screensht of InDesign which is different from Illustrator.
I do not believe that ID has a raster effects setting.
This is the Illust6rator Frum you are mixing up the tw different applications, they are not the same.

How do I permanently change the default Document Raster Effects Settings from 72 ppi to 300 ppi in Illustrator CS2 for Windows XP?

Open the file called "Adobe Illustrator Startup_CMYK.ai" located at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS2\Plug-ins. Make changes to the Document Raster Effects Settings & save the file, replacing the original file. Take a backup of the original file so that you can revert to it later on, if need be.

Warning: the document raster effects resolution is 72 ppi or less

How do I address / fix the issue that leads to this WARNING when saving my Illustrator CS6 file? All embedded images are 300 ppi.

The warning has nothing to do with your images.
It is simply a statement that tells you that you have not set Effect>Document Raster Effects Settings higher than the default screen value of 72 PPI.
If you have no raster effects applied to your vector artwork there is no need to worry.
If you have, you should consider which value is suitable.

Help with Resolution/Document Raster Effects

I am wanting to upload my logo to my credit card company to put on the face of my new card.
obviously this will be small in size (1.5"x3") but the cc company requires the upload be at least 400pixels x 400pixels.
I don't want to upload a 13"x6" because they shrink it down and it loses quality.
I have tried changing the Document Raster Effects to 300 ppi, but the rulers still show 72 ppi and when I save it to jpeg, it is only 72 ppi.
How can I get a 1.5" x 3" document to save with 450px by 900px dimensions?

I am not certain I understand the need to pen this in photoshop and all this other stuff but you can simply export it as a jpeg.
I am going to show screen shots because this comes up all the time and everyone gives strange instructions.
1 Make the art and artboard 3 inches wide constraining the proportions (works out to 3 x 1.37) the art is of course a little smaller.
2. Export it and choose jpeg as the format (select use artboards)
3. in the jpeg options dialog choose maximum quality and then choose for resolution high, which is 300ppi.
Now you have a jpeg that is 3 x 1.367inches at 900 x 410 pixels

Raster effect settings and size

Can someone just clarify this for me as we are a little confused. If i draw a simple logo say 100mm wide with a drop shadow somewhere on it and i set the raster effect settings to 300. I need to supply this logo to a 3rd party and i do not know how big or small they will print it out, does the size of output matter? I mean if they print it out a metre wide does the 300dpi setting still apply and therefore retain how the shadow looks despite the logo being drawn at originally at only 100mm wide?

Yes.
The effects are "live' meaning they are update as the art changes. The 300ppi will hold true no matter what size the file is printed at if the art is scaled as its sent to the printer.
However, if the art is scaled up or down inside Illustrator the drop shadow size (fall-off/blur) can change because it does not scale accurately to the art. So, if someone opens your 100mm file and scales it up to 1 meter then drop shadow could look small and almost non-existed or it could appear much greater than anticipated. This all depends upon what the Preferences > General > Scale Strokes & Effects setting is currently set at.

Raster Effects Settings and Effects Size Relationship

I've noticed when one of my colleagues has created a concept file with RES set to 72dpi, when I go to change the settings to 300dpi, the size of the effects changes. This kinda makes sense to me so I just go in and multiply the effects by 4 to get a hi-res simulation of the original concept.
What's confusing to me is that sometimes the effects do not resize, they remain the same but just look sharper and higher in resolution. This saves me having to do the multiplication procedure which is great. I'm confused as to why this happens sometimes and on other occasions does not. Is there a preference somewhere that dictates whether effects resize according to resolution?
I'm using CS2 by the way.

Change document raster effects to 300dpi??

Using Illustrator CS
Am up against a deadline for an image to be printed at 300. Made image using default of 72 dpi. As you would expect and I did not, when coverting to 300 dpi, the appearance of my gaussian blurs are diminished to the point where they can barely be seen, and instead of subtle blurs I have sharp lines. I understand that the correct way to do this would have been to work in 300 dpi all along, but it is rather late for that. Short of redoing all my raster effects, is there a way to preserve the appearnce of the gaussian blurs at 300 dpi?
If I do need to go back and redo all my effects, is there a shortcut or method or script I can use to speed this process up?
Help, please? Clock is ticking and I am not working on a new machine.

Changes to appearance of repeat swatch and gradient (both with transparency applied) when .ai saved in PDF 1.3 compatibility

I need to send a complex vector print to a commercial printer who requires my .ai file to be saved as 1.3 PDF compatibility. All the graphics display & print correctly bar two elements:
1. A gradient with transparency applied
2. A repeat pattern swatch with transparency applied
Both of these elements are layered between a solid colour background and a complex array of vector art.
The gradient displays as solid white when converted to 1.3 PDF. The pattern swatch displays partly white, with some elements of the pattern repeat visible as a watermark.
1. I have tried to rasterise these elements within the a@rt, and while they both display correctly while in .ai format, as soon as I convert to PDF the appearance changes as above.
2. I have tried to apply the transparency to the paint buckets on the gradient slider instead of applying it to the shape with gradient fil
3. I've fiddled with the Transparency Flattening presets, Document Raster Effect Settings, and everything I can think of in the 'Save as PDF' dialogue box
4. I've tried to rasterise the full file with an even worse outcome (all colour information lost, appears only on grey scale with fewer elements visible)
Could this have something to do with spot colours or overprint? Any help would be most appeciated!

Thanks for taking an interest! I tried rebuilding my gradient as suggested to see whether it would make a difference, but was still having issues. Tried to save every which way with the save as PDF options in 1.3 profile. Finally went back into the file to unpack each layer and see what I could adjust to save the appearance.
Found this fix in my swatches palette: for some reason the swatches I was working with had converted to "Book Colour", something I never use. I changed the dropdown back to CMYK and changed the colours from spot to process, which fixed the file Relief after hours of searching and late nights!

Where on earth can i change resolution values/doc raster effects?

when importing a Bar Code i consistently get message that resolution for professional book printing is too low. (which results in text [print proof] overlaid on barcode, which obviously we don't want.
when trying to save a piece of Russian text (in Illustrator) as pdf (for placing into Pagemaker), i get warning that ppi is 72 ppi or below.
the designated printer values for both examples are 2400. Where (in InDesign, but problem is same in Illustrator) can i change the document raster effects from 72 ppi to a higher (standard) value?

Check the "Effects > Document Raster Effects" and/or "Print > Output Resolution" dialogs.

Raster effects appearance differences between CS and CS3 at 72dpi

We have received a file from an outside vendor that, when viewed on a mac running Illustrator CS3 and one running CS, looks considerably different. Drop shadows becomes too dark and too large when viewed in CS unless the document raster settings are set to 300dpi. BUT there is a white highlight that has a gaussian blur applied and is set to "Overlay" in the transparency settings that appears harsher and less graduated at 300dpi. Our concern is that we are sending this file out for film in China and we have no way of knowing what the final appearance will be.
The question is: Should we set the Document Raster Effects to 300 dpi and adjust the highlight so that it looks right...or should we leave it at 72 dpi and adjust the shadows.

Ai CS3 CS5 - Raster Effects Resolution changes

Just upgraded from CS3 to CS5.
An Illustrator logo that contains a drop shadow (created in Ai CS3), placed into InDesign (CS5), and exported to PDF, fails in PDF checking due to low resolution.
I traced this back to the Ai file. The Document Raster Effects have changed from High-300dpi in CS3, to Screen-72dpi in CS5. Ooops. When I open the same file back in Ai CS3, the Document Raster Effects are still set to High-300dpi as they should be.
Is this a known bug/undocumented feature? If so, is there a workaround? Or is it just me?

125 ppi for a Lambda? As far as I know there are two resolutions for the Lambda 200 ppi and 400 ppi so I assume that if you give the sjop the 125 ppi file they will res it up.
However if your lab says fine to the 125 ppi and you have done this before it would seem to make sense.
However if they are using Illustrator to out put the file, which I do not think they would since I believe the file has to be a tiff. I would set the raster image effect to 200ppi.
But only on out put or change it before sending the file to the lab.

Doc Raster Effects on gaussian blur

CS5, Mac 10.8.4.
We inherited a design at doc raster effects of 72 dpi, using a light blue PMS 291 arch shape that was gaussian blurred to make a soft arched gradient.
Changed doc raster effects to 300 dpi, and the gradient turned into a solid of PMS 291. I edited the 90 gaussian blur amount to 21.6 = (90 * 72)/300. That did not look right as the gradient was not soft but hard. Kept tweaking the gradient to find that it looked best at 59, when we went to 60 pixels then the gradient jumped to a solid lt blue with no gradient. Printed the 59 gaussian blue, and it looked like this coming out of our DC 240 color xerox laser printer (photoshopped to simulate, basically the gradient ends with a hard wave.)
So I said enough of this, I do not like the gaussian blur and wish Illustrator did not even have that as and option cause for final work causes to much trouble. Rebuilt this as a 3 step blend in PMS 291. Looked great on screen, but also printed like the second screen shot. Anyone have any idea what I can do. I am totally fine with getting rid of the gaussian blur, as we will be having many more new packaging coming in different sizes that will need this arched gradient.
Here are my doc raster effect settings. Would like to know more about anti alias and the create clipping mask option. My question though is how to get rid of gradient ending hard.

Seems the best I can do is to rebuild this gradient in Photoshop as a spot channel, so that I get a soft ending.
If anyone from Adobe or the forums has any input about this do raster effects setting, and how to calculate a gaussian blur that looks the same at 72 or 300 dpi.

High raster effect resolution in large document makes effect dissapear

I'm making some graphics to be printed on a car. I have some lines with outer glow on them, but Illustrator won't render these unless I use 72DPI in raster effects reslution. I would like to go higher, but it won't give me anything. Guessing it's to heavy for Illustrator maybe? Is there anything I can do about this? I'm making my graphics in 1:1 scale, but I do it in a lower scale since it's just vector art anyway, however how would that effect my glow? Since it's a raster effect.

Which just goes to show how widely misunderstood overstated rules-of-thumb are in this industry. In estimating appropriate PPI, you want small enough pixels (at print size) to avoid visible pixelation. In other words, you don't want to be able to see the squareness of the pixels. That's a function of the tone screening method resolution. As long as the pixel size is not larger than the screening method size, the screening method is not going to be fine enough to be able to render the squareness of a pixel as a square.
Suppose you've got a pixel that measures 1/75th inch. How many round dots will be required to at least roughly render that square as a square? At least four dots. In other words, you'd have to be printing with a halftone screen of at least 150 LPI for pixelation to be visible. And even at that, the assumption would be a pixel that is perfectly aligned with a halftone cell, and on only one color sep angled at 0°. Stochastic screening is even more forgiving of lower raster resolution, because all the screen dots are the same size anyway. They are randomly patterned and their frequency is altered to suggest different tones.
So vehicle graphics are not going to be printed at anything near a halftone screen resolution of 300 LPI. (Don't be confused by claims of "high resolution" of composite printers like 1440 or 2880 DPI. Those figures are talking about printer spot size, not tone cell size.)
Add to all that the fact that concern over image sharpness doesn't even enter the picture when talking about raster effects that are intenionally fuzzy anyway (shadows, glows, etc., etc.).
Flattening "stitching" artifacts need to be watched for if the soft, fuzzy raster effects overlay text or other vector objects that need to be crisp. But that's usually a matter of correct stacking order (or Illustrator bugs).
75 PPI for raster effects on vehicle graphics is a gracious plenty; probably less. You don't really think billboard photos are sampled at 300 PPI @100%, do you?
