Document recovery

Hi There,
I was completing a dynamic pdf form in adobe reader, and I was regularly saving the document. About 5 pages in my computer crashed and the document closed. When I opened the document all of the information I typed into the document was lost.
I have 2 questions:
1. How do I recover the information that I typed into the report?
2. Does anybody know if there is a function in adobe reader where the software automatically saves entered information (like Microsoft word)?
Many thanks in advance
Lee

Hi Lee,
Please find the inline answers to your question
1. How do I recover the information that I typed into the report?
Acrobat would fetch the information from Temparory Internet files.
2. Does anybody know if there is a function in adobe reader where the software automatically saves entered information (like Microsoft word)?
Click Edit > Preferences > Documents. Set the Automatically save document settings as per your requirement. It is set to 5 by default.
Let me know if that helps.

Pranav

  • Word 2007 Document Recovery Pane Corrupt

We are using Word 2007 on a Windows 2003 terminal server.
When each one of our users opens word, the document recovery task pane opens with the same five documents. If you try to use the documents or delete them, it gives an error
    Error Deleting File or Folder
Cannot delete file: Cannot read form the source file or disk.
How can I get these to not show up for everyone?

    Hi,
Thank you for using Word IT Pro Discussions
    forum.
The first time that Word is started after a crash, the "Document Recovery" task pane will appear on the left side of the screen.
If you do not want these files shown in the document recovery task pane, click Start, in the Search box, type regedit and press Enter to open registry editor.
    Locate the registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Terminal Server\Install\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Resiliency
There will be a key called "document recovery". Delete everything in this key. Once everything in this key is deleted, the problem will go away.

  • Indesign CS6 quits during document recovery, even after restart. How do I get out of this cycle?

Indesign CS6 quits during document recovery, even after restart. How do I get out of this cycle?
I was saving a document when it originally quit. so "locked" file appeared in directory as well as reg file.
Upon restart of InDesign, recovery failed and software quit again.
Restarted computer, then indesign, file opens but as soon as I select "recover" it sends a message that indesign needs to close.
I cannot seem to get out of this cycle. Help.

Use your operating system’s Search utility to find a folder called (InDesign Recovery) and delete it.

It's perfectly odd to assume that an application deliver this or that feature.
It's perfectly wrong to write that "most every Apple - heck most every modern product does it automatically".
TextEdit did that but iLife apps didn't and I'm not sure that Apple's Pro apps were doing that before Lion.
More, some users are ranting in several threads against the Autosave and Versions features introduced by Lion.

  • Redirect Document Recovery using registry setting or Group Policy

Hi all, I am deploying In Design CS5.5 (version 7.5) on several Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Citrix servers. The users login to the server and use the server desktop to run applications. For many apps we have used redirection for cache folders etc to try and keep the user's windows profile as small as possible. When an application uses the registry to store its file paths then this can easily be done with group policy, I haven't been able to find any key for In Design that holds the Document Recovery path or any other cache type paths.
Does anyone know where this path is stored?
Any recommendations for methods on redirecting adobe paths out of the user's profile?
    All help appreciated !
    Nick.

The path to the recovery folder is stored as part of the User's application preferences in InDesign Defaults, I believe. There is  Browse button under FIle Hnadling that lets the user choose the location for the folder.
I don't know if it will help you, but I maintain a group of workstations for the student paper at the local community college, all of which have DeepFreeze installed making a local recovery folder useless, so I set the folder on one machine to a network drive, then cloned the prefs to the other workstations. Seems to work great.

  • Can not get Document recovery to stop trying to recovery a deliberately deleted file. Delet is grayed out.

A Word 2007 file was permenantly deleted and now Document Recovery tries to restore it. When I try to "save as" or "open" I get the message that the file can't be found. I have tried regedit to empty the Document Recovery. There is one file that remains
that I can't delete. I have turned off auto save under the Save tab and Allow background saves under the Advanced tab. There are 8 people that access the server. I've gone in and done the same thing for each of them. Shut down the server and brought it up.
Nothing has helped. The operating system is 2003 Server.

  • What is a trusted program for document recovery?

Yes, I foolishly trashed and emptied a document - no backup.  I can find the file name in Word but there is no data.  Is there any program to potentially retrieve my work?  Thanks.

First you must stop using your MBP.  When trash is emptied, the data still exists UNTIL it is over written.  Then is IS lost.
There are various options available if you search the Internet .  Here is a comparison of some that are available:

  • Pages Crash: Possible Document Recovery?

Hey, as I was inserting a table into an extensive lab report I was typing Pages crashed.
I selected relauch from the crash window and was not greeted by a recovered version of my document. The last time I saved was a about and hour ago, and I would really prefer not to have to retype this all out again.
I went into console and pulled this out:
    3/13/08 3:13:35 AM com.apple.launchd[73] ([0x0-0x28028].com.apple.iWork.Pages[391]) Exited abnormally: Segmentation fault
Does pages offer ANY kind of recovery? Does it dump the document on crash into some sort of crash report? Anything at all?
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Welcome to the club.
This question was often asked and responded.
    The response is NO .
As with all computer, the b.a.ba is to save regularly when we are working on a long document.
As I know that many users are reluctant to do that, I wrote an Autosave script which is available for FREE on my idisk.

  • OVERRIDDEN INDESIGN DOCUMENT RECOVERY???

I accidentally saved an Indesign CS4 document as the name of another document, and saying "replace", overriding it completely. It was just 2 saves ago that I would like to recover.
I already closed and reopened the document. Is there any way to recover what I did? I have lost the last week's worth of work because of this silly middle-of-the-night mistake!!
    please help!

If you don't have backup, that file is toast.
I can give you some advice for the future, however, in this blog post:

  • InDesign CS3 (PC) crashed document recovery woes.

InDesign CS3 (PC) crashes when trying to open a ID document so I can't determine the problem. How can I open it without crashing? The problem may be a font or a placed image but I don't know for sure because I can't open the file.

It was on a PC and I brought in my Mac and got the same response. The links
are in disarray, I suspect that is the root of the problem but not being

  • Word 2007 Corrupt Document Recovery

    Hi All,
I might be a little off topic in this category but am hoping you can help or point me in the right direction, i have a corrupt .doc document, basically it was a doc i resumed working on which was launched off a usb hdd, midway through the document i accidentally unplugged the hdd.
After plugging it back in i tried to relaunch the document in the hope of just starting from where i originally resumed, however the text has now converted into all sorts of code which cannot be translated into English, i tried all the other MS docs explaining how to launch and repair the document to no avail,
Can anyone please point me in the right direction? =(
    Thanks in advance.
    Ovi.

Did you use MS Word's "Open and Repair" function to open those corrupted .docx files? If files are really very crucial and severely corrupted, then you have to buy a third-party application. This is the only way to recover those files as there's
no freeware, as far as I think. I have also faced the similar situation of corruption in some of Word .docx files. I tried
Word Repair Toolbox software to repair my corrupt .docx files.

  • Help! - Document Recovery

    Hello,
I need to recover a document on Buzzword. I used an important
document as the starting point, and auto save saved 'over' it, thus
deleting the original. Being new to Buzzword, I didn't know to be
careful of this feature. I didn't save the document as a new file
before auto save did this. I tried to undo - but it didn't go back
far enough. I need the original file back, as I have poured many
hours over several days into it.
    PLEASE HELP!

    Wow Bob!
You are a lifesaver! Thank you very much. I tried this
earlier, but for some reason I did not see any prior versions
listed in history. Now I do see them, and my document is there!
Perhaps I was looking at the wrong document's history. Regardless -
you saved me hours of re-writing.
Thanks! And I love the Acrobat.com products!

  • Pages document recovery

I've just spent the last 6 hours preparing a report in Pages 09 and when I went to save the document pages crashed! When I reopened the document in Pages it had reverted to an earlier saved version. How do I recover the lost work? I normally use Microsoft Word and this is the first time I've decided to use pages.

Well, I just lost a technical report I wrote in Pages '08. The computer ran out of battery overnight and when it tried to come out of hibernation there was a kernel panic. After restart, my document was reduced to a list of notes I had hours before I finished.
I understand that you are supposed to save your work. I can't imagine that I didn't slap cmd-s at some point during the work, but the evidence says otherwise. Really though - I haven't had this problem since I was 10 yrs old working with an Apple IIe and some random word processor whose name I don't even remember. A modern word processor should seriously auto-save. You don't even have to overwrite the main document or the manual backup version, just be able to recover if something screwy happens (like OSX crashing!? - since when does that happen?)
I'm starting to really get irritated with the quality control apple is showing. It used to be their strength. The OS is losing it's edge -bugs are creeping in all over- and their paid software is getting eclipsed by free offerings (I bet Google Docs has an auto-save).
Ok, I guess I should end the rant. Suffice it to say I was about to purchase the Mac Box Set to upgrade iLife, Iwork, and my OS. I think the money is going into a Microsoft Office license now. At least it has auto-save. Ugh.

  • Corrupted document recovery of previous

Hi I have a corrupted Word 2004 document. Is it possible to recover a previously saved version although I have not used a different file name? Thanks.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I would seriously doubt that you could recover the file if it is saved with the same name without some very expensive help from a company like Drive Savers. Even then it sould be doubtful as the old file was overwritten and the information in it changed when you saved it.

  • Word 2003 inconsistent document recovery behaviour

I have a document that I have discovered (using the Open and Repair feature in word 2003) has an Internal Data Integrity (Type 4)  error (whatever that is).
On some machines (all running the same version of Word 2003, with SP3 and no other patches) the document opens from explorer fine, on others it causes Word to hang indefinitely at 100% CPU Usage.
I can however use Open and Repair on any of the machines ( those that hang or those that don't and this works fine) but what I want to know is this:
How come some machines can open it and auto repair it without any user intervention, when others that are exactly the same cant?
These PCs are all built from a standard image and Office is installed on them from an SCCM package... so they should all be identical.
Also, does anyone have any idea what "Internal Data Integrity (Type 4) 1 error" really means, or how I can go about looking at the data behind the document to pinpoint the source of that message?
Background info: The document is generated by a mail merge process run from a machine using office 2007 that is saving the generated docs as 2003 format.  The template is a .dot file that I believe was originally created in office 97.  I believe the
template is the cause of the Data Integrity error and I have recommended a new one be created.  This doesn't help to explain why Word 2003 hangs when opening the files on one machine and not other though.

    Hi,
Microsoft Word automatically uses the Open and Repair feature if Word detects a problem with a document when you open it.
If you can identify the document is a damaged file, please refer to this link troubleshoot damaged word document:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826864
If not, please troubleshoot problems that occur when you start or use Word 2003 refer to this link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/820919
Note: A good way to create a new template test if it helps.
