Document Repository

Hi
I am constructing a web-enabled document repository for storing office documents, pro-formas etc. and I am exploring various avenues for design... and I have a couple of questions that I hope people in here would be best qualified to give feedback on...
I am currently using Tomcat integrated with Apache, using a mySQL database...
I have the option of storing the documents in a database as BLOBs, or in some kind of remote filestore... obviously getting the BLOBs in and out would be slower (or would it?) but which is the 'best' way?
Do servlets have permission to write to remote network drives, or would the documents need to be stored on the web-server (I feel this would not be a good idea)?
I need some kind of dynamic navigation 'tree', but I don't really want to use an applet with a JTree... (I am not keen on applets as I feel their slowness harms acceptance of systems that integrate them) is there a better way? Or is there a way of making the applet perform better in these circumstances?
I need to be able to create and delete tree branches (i.e. directories) from within the browser, any tips on this?
If anyone has ANY kind of feedback then that would be great...
Many thanks
stu

ok slide is driving me crazy! i managed to get it running within tomcat (jtegrated with apache), and now I am trying to configure a mySQL database store... although whenever it starts, it says it cannot find the mySQL driver, but i have put the jar file in every possible place it could be looking for it... i.e. all the lib directories (in 'common', 'shared', 'slide', 'slide-admin' even in tomcat/server/lib) to no avail just keep getting ClassNotFound...
any ideas?!

  • Missing the entry "BI Document Repository" in KM

    Hi,
I installed an nw2004s java with ep7.0. Later I deployed the components for BI via JSPM and patched all to the sp5.
I want to integrate BI into the Portal to run Bex-Reports on Portal.
At step "Install Repository-Manager for BI-Documents and BI-Metadata in Portal" according the configuration guide I'm missing in the portal under
System administration -> system configuration -> content management -> repository managers the entry point "BI Document repository".
Does anyone know what's wrong here?
    Thanks.
    Cemal

    Hi Karsten
We are also facing the problems of missing BI-repository manager in NW2004s.
portals..(funny, because they where there all the way up in 2004 latest sp.)..
I have had a look at the installation guides for nw2004s. They do mention something about setting up various connections in the visual administator..But does not explain explicitly how to install the repository manager in the portal..
If I go to the swdc i can find some "BI-content for SAP Netweaver -> BI-Cont 7.03".
In here there is a very large car file, is that really the one..? Or could you please give a "how to guide" as how to set up the BI-repository managers in the NW 2004s portal, if the portal does not contain any BI-repository manager?
Kind regards and thank you very much...Steen

  • BW Document Repository - no content

    Hi,
I have a BW Document Repository that should be able to display html-files (Object type: TMPL/Web template name) stored as documents in the BW Metadata.
The portal repository folder "/Metadata/WebTemplate" is however completely empty even though I know that the HTML files exist in the BW.
Am I looking at the wrong place or is there some setting that needs to be made before the html-files will be accessible in the repository?
    Best Regards,
    Olof Trönnberg

    Hi Krishnan,
What I would like to do is to include a link in the portal to the online documentation (the html-file) on a BW object.
Today we use URL-iviews that point to something like: https://domain:port/doc/meta/fldmeta/default?tlogo&=tmpl&objnm=MYOBJECT
Now I would like to provide the same funtionality using a KM document Iview that points to the BW object stored in the BW Document Repository.
Problem is that the Object doesn't seem to exist in the repository.

  • BI Document Repository Manager and CM repository

    Hi,
When we broadcast BI reports to KM, the only repository available is CM repository. Why is BI Document repository not available? Can we provide a link from CM repository folder to the custom BI repositories that we created?
Also if we cant use BI Repository to broadcast from portal, what is it used for?

  • Understanding storage for MetaData "document" repository

    Hello Community,
We are running BW on an Oracle database, and I'm trying to understand what happens when I attach a document to the MetaData `document` repository.  To get to the repository, we go to RSA1 --> Documents
From the "content storage" tab after pressing the the administration button, I can see the content repository is <b>BDS_DB8</b>, which appears to store documents in the database table <b>BDSCONT8</b>.
(While a table name is listed, I would imagine that new documents added to the repository would be insterted into the database as BLOBs)
What I'm trying to understand is :
where to documents go when they're inserted into the repository ?
if I add a 1 Mb document to the repository, does the database grow in size by exactly 1 Mb ?
what are other details to consider re: storage and disk usage when using the MetaData repository ?
    Thank you,
    Keith

Shared access signature and stored access policy can be used in this case.
A shared access signature is a URI that grants restricted access rights to containers, blobs, queues, and tables for a specific time interval. By providing
a client with a shared access signature, you can enable them to access resources in your storage account without sharing your account key with them. A stored access policy provides an additional level of control over shared access signatures on the server
    side.

  • Document repository in fsdb/dbfs mode

    Hi,
Has anyone implemented the document repository in fsdb / dbfs mode? I am looking at possiility of storing documents in different server from where KM is installed. TREX needs to be able to search the documents as well.
Please advise how the configuration would differ in this scenario.
Points definitely will be awarded to answers that guide me in the right direction.
    Thanks and regards,
    Arun

    Hi Arun,
Here is the weblog we followed for implementing FSDB in our system (EP6.0 SP2):
Creating a CM Repository Manager - FSDB
We were also able to migrate existing documents from DB persistence mode to FSDB. The trick is to first download all the files via WebDAV to your storage folder, then point your FSDB repository to this folder. This way your existing properties won't get deleted during the transition. I still advise to do a full KM backup before this operation, unless you're starting from scratch.
    Hope this helps,
    Olivier

  • Document Repository - Notification

Currently I am working in Oracle Portal and I am using Document Repository in my application to maintain the files.
Here my requirement is, Whenever user uploading any document into the document repository. I need to send an email to the group of users.
Could anyone help me about this? I don't have any idea about this. Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Balaji S

    Hi Jens,
I would like to help you, but we need to know a bit more.
Since the link (if the <portalserver:port> is properly
populated) looks okay, it is probably not the
notification itself, but you can check this:
The texts that are used to generate the mail are found
    in the file:
    \usr\sap\{PORTAL_VERSION}\global\config\cm\etc\notifications\SUBSCRIPTIONADMIN_en.xml
Here, there should be a line that reads:
    <textspan pEventid="create">The subscription <subscriptionlink/> was created</textspan>
You should check that this is intact. There is one such
    file for each language.
If the problem is displaying the subscription, you might try
calling up the Subscriptions iView and see if that works and
check the URLs against those in the notification.
You can find the Subscriptions iView under the
Content Administration role, then search for "Subscriptions"
and use the right click menu to preview the iView. If this
doesn't work, then I think your problem is not related to
the notifications. This would be one of the first things
to check to isolate the problem. Please post what you learn
so that we can help you further.

  • Using TPC : no connector when adding a new "Document Repository"

I've followed the Oracle TPC (Team Productivity Center) step-by-step tutorial, I've some connectors under "Work Item Repository" and "Versioning Repository" but none under "Document Repository".
I don't know what to install to get them.
(JIRA, BugZilla, Task and MSProject connectors all went under "Work Item Repository")
    Thanks

    hello,
    I've completed this turorial
    http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/jdev/obe11jdev/ps1/teamproductivitycenter/getting_started_tpc.htm
it was well written and well explained .. it instructed me about several parts of TPC but didn't show anywhere how to add a "Document Repository".
(when I click on the "plus sign" it begins the process of adding but the Connectors combo box is empty)
I didn't find anything about it when searching directly from google either ..
I guessed it could be something I'm supposed to know before even looking for TPC, so my question is open to any explanation on "how to add a new Document Repository in the Team Administration window of TPC ?"
    Thanks

  • Shared Document Repository

    Hello Friends,
I have installed and clustered wci on two machines but I am not sure how to define a shared location for document repository, In fact I am not sure where and how to define/configure the location for document repository for the documents uploaded via content upload service. any help of this will be really appreciated.

Hi Ryan, thank you so much for so quick response, I have some more concerns and I am sure you will help me on those also -
1 - I have verified the DR service and content upload services are running properly. I wasn't be able to upload files from local system because while submitting document, I am not getting content upload or option to load local document, I am only able to see www option there in document source drop box and tried to upload from web with url and it was uploaded to tmp for time being. Do you have any idea why i am not getting options other than www in document source, I would guess local document will upload to Active directory , isn't it ?
2 - I saw there is another war file called ptupload.war, Is it another way apart from wci portal to directly upload documents to KD ? during deployment of this file i am getting "no :file found" exception. Do you have any idea on this ?
3 - for DR, there id dr.war file to verify KD service but during deployment of this file i am also getting error " no :file found C:\Program Files\plumtree\ptdr\5.0\settings\config\dr-server.xml", I am not sure why it's looking for c:\ however I am deploying from my linux server.
4 - Is there any way to define KD repository on server apart from wci server, I would like to make a common shared repository seprate for multiple wci instances ( running on different servers ) , How would I make wci services on another server and KD directory on another server ?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Collaboration Server with customization (use another document repository)

Does anyone think it'd be possible to makethe Plumtree Collaboration server use Documentum (or any other repository besides Plumtree's own content server) as its document repository, either by somehow customizing the Collaboration server or some other way? Have other companies attempted and had success with similar? In particular our vision is to be able to use Collab's functionality of check-in/check-out, associating documents to Project, discussion threads, etc. Only the documents could come from Documentum (or some arbitrary repository).
    Any input would be appreciated.

  • Synchronisation problem when using iFS as Portal document repository

Is anyone using 9iFS as the repository for their Portal documents but getting DRG-11602: URL store: access to <file name> requires authentication when synchronising the PORTAL30.WWSBR_URL_CTX_INDX index. This is run under schema CTXSYS, using ctx_schedule.
We use a URL on the Portal folder to access the iFS document and, if the ACE on the document ACL includes World Read, then the document is indexed correctly but if it has no World Read access then synchronisation fails with the above error. These secure documents are indexed correctly, however, when synchronising IFSSYS.IFS_TEXT.
When you put the URL for the document in the browser then you are prompted for an iFS username/password and this is obviously the problem when synchronising. Oracle Support say that the Oracle 9i Oracle Text Reference, Chapter 2: Indexing, definition of URL_DATASTORE states :The login:password@ syntax within the URL is not supported. Oracle Support have also suggested that using iFS as the Portal repository is not standard practice and that we should simply add our documents as items on the folder. Doing this means not being able to take advantage of the added functionality of iFS such as versioning and, anyway, I thought that Oracle had plans to fully integrate the two products with iFS being the default repository in a future release of Portal.
Until then has anyone got any ideas for a workaround because we are unable to index the contents of all secure documents on our Corporate intranet? We cant be the only site using iFS and Portal in this way!

    Hello Raymond,
I must say that I downloaded the JBoss Portal Binary and not the bundle JBoss AS + JBoss Portal, because I already had a JBoss AS working, so it was the best way to do it (as it is said in the JBossPortalReferenceGuide). I have both things (server and portal) in the same directory, but I don't know if maybe one of them should contain the other (I have seen that in the bundle, the portal directory contains the JBoss application server) When I downloaded the JBoss Portal and tried to deploy it by directing my web browser to http://localhost:8080/portal it did not work, so I decided to copy the jboss-portal.sar directory from the JBoss Portal to the deploy of my server. Maybe this was a mistake.
But anyway I have seen that JBoss Portal 2.6 comes with the myfaces jars, and as JBoss AS 4.2 uses Sun RI by default, it is going to collapse anyway. Should I just remove these jars from the portal? As I told you before, I tried doing it and I got two errors of not found classes.
Please, any help would be really appreciated, I am losing a lot of time with this bug, because the server keeps getting out of memory due to it.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Need opinions / benefits of previous experience - PD and external document repository integrations ....

We are using PD in support of our EA Program. Current efforts have been focused on getting started from a zero base and working on ensuring we have a consistent baseline for the 100(ish) business systems that this effort encompasses. This has largely been an exercise in locating existing (mostly dated) documentation, finding out that there are waaaaay more knowledge gaps than we originally expected, and authoring models to create a common baseline of knowledge aligned with our TOGAF based metamodel/framework. We have been developing baseline models for business areas and systems that encompass business process, application architecture and infrastructure architecture (all at higher levels more appropriate to EA overviews).
Anyway ..... along the way there have been boatloads of challenges locating documentation that is most often squirelled away in places where only a few people have access or it has been forgotten all-together. One of the next steps we are considering is consolidating and applying some mgmt and governance to the feeder knowledge. This knowledge would NEVER be considered for re-factoring/recreation in EA models and I estimate is about 5000 documents in various formats. I would like to complement the EA Repository (in PD) and our framework with an enterprise knowledge/document mgmt repository.
Ideally I would like to integrate the two at some level. In my ideal world (where the sun always shines and the people are all pretty!), I would see a document mgmt (DM) system where supporting docs are managed. Some of the classification metadata used in PD is applicable in DM. An integration in PD for pointing to External FIles managed in the DM would be present. PD would have custom scripting to pull/synchronize DM metadata for individual documents.
I would like to hear if any of you have tried or heard of someone trying to do something similar. If so, how did it turn out?
    A couple notes:
    1. I know that I could try to use PD as a sort of DM. Some work at scripting and creating a few extensions for the DM metadata framework would do the trick in the short term. However, I believe that I should be looking for tools suitable to the job and not try to make PD into something it is definitely not designed for. Unless you have seen an enterprise-scale usage of PD for something like this, I am probably not all that open to this path (that being said I am open to being convinced by strong argument/evidence).
    2. I think this place has some sort of enterprise licensing in place for Documentum so any experiences with that would be particularly interesting.
Thanks much for any input you might have.
    Bruce

    Hi Bruce,
As you say yourself It's not a good idea to use PD as a sort of DM.
Documentum has a tool for automatic classification. Content Intelligence Services. CIS allow to enables automatic classification and categorization of content in the Documentum repository. Its benefit is well organized, classified, and categorized content. With CIS, content is parsed and analyzed and classification rules are applied. The results of the classification can then be used for categorization as keywords to populate content metadata. The capability of automatically creating keywords to populate content metadata remove the burden from end users who otherwise have to do it manually.
That being said. So in Documentum documents are classified. In PD you can copy / paste the URL in one or more of the following objects fields (Comment, Notes/Description, Notes/Annotation) to the documents in Documentum. So you only have one authoritative source. From models you can double click on the link to go directly to the latest version of the documents in Documentum.
Do you want to import into the PD clasifications documents, keywords, made in Documentum?
You say "I would like to complement the EA Repository (in PD) and our framework with an enterprise knowledge/document mgmt repository." Do you think being able to present the results you're looking for? They say a picture is worth a thousand words
I apologize if I do not understand properly the need.

  • Linked Document Repository

Can linked documents be moved from one repository to another?
    Example:
Goods receipt attachments (document class FAX, document type ZMMIGR, content repository S1, object type BUS2017)
Content repository S1 is Sales Documents Archive.
Content repository M1 Purchasing Documents Archive would be a more logical storage for Goods Receipt attachments.
Can the documents be moved to the M1 repository while still retaining the link to the Good Receipt?

You can only remove write access from notes and it will restic the user to upload file. However this restiction might increase the problem because users will not be able to eidt notes. Therefore hiding button would be more appropriate.
Another option would be in System Setting you can set block file extension as attachments. Add all possible extension type which a user can add to Notes and it will not allow the user upload attachment.
