  • Adobe Reader XI Document Restrictions Summary

I am attempting to configure Adobe Reader XI for Enterprise Deployment.  Our current version of Reader (9.5.1) has the following Document Restriction settings for every document that is opened with Reader:
In version XI, those three options are all set to Allowed.  In our environment, it is unacceptable to have these marked as Allowed per requirements.
Can someone please assist me with a method by which we can configure Adobe Reader to mark these settings as Not Allowed for all documents opened with Adobe Reader?

With Adobe Acrobat you can set the security of documents.

  • Document Security settings - conflicting information

A PDF has been created in a process where Security is applied by itext sharp; and all values should be set to Allowed.
When I check File > Properties > Security Tab (in adober reader 8 ) I can see:
    1) At the bottom a 'Document Restrictions Summary' section, but not all my values are "Allowed". So possibly something isn't right with the itext sharp process. However what is more confusing and the purpose of this post is that I can also see....
    2) At the top the Document Security section and a Show Details button. Selecting this brings up the Document Security dialog with another list of settings - some of which are a contradiction of those shown in the Summary list (point 1 above) e.g. Document Assembly is Not Allowed in 1) above, but is shown as Allowed in the separate Document Security dialog?????
I can't find any information on the difference between these two sections and which Value is correct.
I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, I've also posted this in the adobe reader group.
    Any help appreciated.
    ej.

This is normal in Reader, because its functions are limited. It's
confusing, but it says "disabled" for things it can't do as well as
those things which are forbidden. To actually confirm the settings use
    Acrobat instead.

  • Document Restrictions of Security Policies

    Hello,
I've been hunting around but can't find it. Is there a concise reference for how to use Adobe Acrobat8 Security features with the Adobe Document Center? Is it so new that there's no book (Quick Start, etc.) on it?
I send PDFs to people. But I only want them to be able to print the PDF, not copy any of its content. I also want the PDF to deny access after a 3 month period. I was going to use Pinion Software's AutoShred product, but then I stumbled upon Adobe8 and the Document Center, which seemed like a perfect fit. So I immediately upgraded to Adobe8 and signed up for the trial at the Document Center.
I have created security policies and everything seems to work as its supposed to. However, when I look at any security policy, there is nothing allowing me to make the kind of detailed modifications permitted in Acrobat8 - Secure / Show Security Properties / SecurityTab / and the list for Document Restrictions Summary.
For some reason, when I set up a security policy - most restrictive to only permit printing and eliminate file access after 3 months - the "page extraction: allowed" phrase shows up when I examine Show Security Properties / Security Tab / Document Restrictions Summary, even though for everything else it is "Not allowed" which is what I want.
I thought maybe its a bug, because when I close the file and then reopen it, the page extraction is grayed out. But I don't know if people I send the file to will be able to extract the pages, thus getting around my objective of not allowing them to copy/paste any of my proprietary content onto some other file format.
Anybody else have this same problem. Is there a way for me to prevent page extraction and have it show up in the Document Restrictions Summary as "Page Extraction: Not Allowed"?
    Thanks,
    Robert

    Hi Holly,
Question - is that all you want to do? Or do the documents have value to you such that you want to maintain control over how long they are used, by whom, and for how long?
    1. If the former, you can use password protection to protect the documents, and format them so that they cannot be altered.
From within Adobe Acrobat 8 with the document visible.
Select Secure / Password Encrypt / Permissions
Click on Restrict Editing and Printing
Key in a protection password (I use the same for all documents)
Select Printing permissions "High Resolution" from drop down menu
Select Changes Allowed "None" from Drop Down Menu
Make sure "Enable copying of text, images.... box is unchecked
Don't worry about creating Security Envelopes or anything else. Just click cancel if those windows pop up.
Your security changes will not take effect until you save the document. Once saved, you can go to Secure / Show Security Properties / Show Details to confirm that all settings are as you want.
    2. If you want to do the latter, you can sign up for Adobe Live Cycle Policy Server protection of the document. Adobe just came out with a new service. Right now its free. Later to be subscription based.
    https://dc.adobe.com/adc/login.do?nextURL=https%3A%2F%2Fdc.adobe.com%2Fadc%2Fadc.do
I use this, since I want to maintain control over the documents. I let people print only. No other changes, no copying, no emailing. And the document "self destructs" on the date I set for its expiration.

  • Set Document Restrictions to generated PDF Documents

    Hi,
does anyone know, how to set PDF Document Restrictions (like Printing, Copying...) to the PDF Documents generated by BEx Broadcaster? Thank you for advices.
    Erik

    Hello PAHU,
Thanks for coming to my aid again.
Some of the things I'm scanning are records that need to be good as photocopies because I will have to email them or copy-or-print and snail mail them.
That's interesting about how the PDF file is made. I thought PDF would be a native format and chose it for "compatibility". I'm not sure if everyone have apps that can handle TIFFs (especially on the PC side). My recollection from scanning in the 90s with my Paperport is that TIFFs can print "huge" or "teeny" depending on the settings it was scanned at.
Using your advice scanning with Preview set to B&W as TIFF and PDF and both times the files were smaller. Thank you so much.
I also tried converting the TIFF to PDF in Graphic converter because I can batch convert documents that way. However, I noticed that the printouts of the B&W scans are rather poor quality. On the other hand the B&W scans print out as the whole page and not with a white border like the color scans do.
The B&W pdfs scan slightly smaller than the TIFFs. So that's probably what I will do for these documents.
I will have to search out /experiment with the OCR for things that I can save as text when I get a chance.
I have so much to learn about scanning.

    file not found error
    adil

    Hi,
first we need to figure out the error. change the web.config so that you can see the error on browser
    1) Obtain the complete call stack instead of the default error page:
    <SafeMode MaxControls="200" CallStack="false"/>
    to
    <SChangeafeMode MaxControls="200" CallStack="true"/>
    2) CustomeErrors mode value (in the system.web section) is set to Off:
    <customErrors mode="On">
    to
    <customErrors mode="Off">
Change these value in "c:\inetpub\wssroot"  CA dirctory web.config and
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\web.config .
now again try to do the action. you will get the error on screen.

  • ESET NOD 32 cannot scan past this point. I keep getting stuck at 56% at the following; C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\ Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\Pending. Is this a problem with NOD32 or with Firefox? Thank you.

I ran into a glitch on my system that I tried to fix myself. My NOD32 was always showing the yellow warning circle as my protection status when I started my computer. I tried to fix this every way I new how.
Then I started to get pop ups asking me to fix and then send system error reports to Windows. Some stating they were '''''critical.''''' So I sent NOD32 the e-mail below.
'''Me:''' I cannot seem to run a complete system scan. I keep getting stuck at 56% at the following point. C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\
    Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\Pending
I also keep getting messages to send error reports to Microsoft constantly. I also have this code C:\pagefile.sys-error opening
    Thank you for your assistance.
    '''Their solution:'''
Based on the information you provided, we recommend that you upgrade to latest version of ESET NOD32 Antivirus and see if this makes a difference.
Please click or copy/paste the following ESET Knowledgebase article into your web browser for step-by-step instructions:
'''Me''' : I did as they requested and am fully upgraded and licensed with their new edition.
Ran a new scan same problem.
I sent them a new e-mail but now wonder if it is a Firefox issue as, C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\
''Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\Pending'' this is where the scan stalls.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

Try delete the files in Pending folder and make the scan again, do not be afraid to delete the files see : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/679996

  • Error while checking in and storing: C:\Documents and Settings

    Hi,
i have some problem in DMS , while doing Check in process after attaching documents in CV01n.
geeting error like "Error while checking in and storing: C:\Document and Settings.."
please suggest me how to solve this problem.
    thx in advance...
    Karthik.

    Hi Karthik,
There may be several factors contributing to this error. Some of these maybe:
    -Storage category defined improperly/missing
    -HTTP/FTP destination missing
    -Incomplete Workstation application definition
    -Incomplete Authorization
Please run through/search for each of these issues (discussed several times in the forum) and adopt corrective action wherever necessary.

    Dear
Whille saving then document in dms , i am getting this error.....
Error message is : "Error while checking in and storing: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documen...."

    R Karthikeyan

    Hi all,
Similar kind of issue occurred in one of our webdynpro applications of SAP NetWeaver Portal-
The error message "Error while checking in and storing" was returned by the BAPI while trying to replace documents in the DMS Server via portal.
But the documents were getting stored in the back end by the use of standard T-Codes.
Later it was found that ABAP tables COMPONENTS & COMPONENT_DATA are inconsistent by looking into the HTTP trace file.
The HTTP patch "http.c#21" was being used in our server.
SAP suggested the below mentioned steps-
-->Download the most recent SAPHTTP version & install it.
-->Then delete the RFC connections SAPHTTP & SAPHTTPA through T-Code SM59
-->Regenerate them again with report RSHTTP05
They were carried out in our ECC server & the issue was resolved.
Please try them out if applicable in your case & let us know.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Error while checking in and storing: C:\Documents and Settings\user\Desktop

    Hi all,
I'm getting  the following Error while checking in original to Content Server
"Error while checking in and storing: C:\Documents and Settings\user\Desktop" Message 26253
OAC0, OACT, CSADMIN settings seems to be Ok .
Settings in DMS SPRO - in dc10, dc20(data carrier used PC)- everything fine
    -Authorization issues are not there
Earlier checking in was possible with same settings, but now we are getting this error.
From my end i had test the RFC Connection (SAPFTP, SAPFTPA, SAPHTTP, SAPHTTPA) through SM59 and its test run was successful. So the possibilty of RFC Failure was ruled out.
I knew this problem was arised as there is some issue in Content Repository, but not able to trace it out.
If any one knew what to do in this case, then let me know.
Secondly, what are the things need to be checked to identify the content repository Checking in Issue.
    Regards,
    S Anand

    Error Resolved.
I had only executed the below command
./dbmcli on SDB>db_execute SET LOG AUTO OVERWRITE ON
    OK
seems like Log file was full. but now its working.
    Thanks for your suggestion.

  • Writing video to dodgy "Document and Settings" folder

Minor problem that I've come across when generating video using JMF:
On Windows, if the output location is in the users home directory, the video gets written to a copy of that directory with spaces replaced by % characters!
    e.g.
    C:\Documents and Settings\me\Desktop\Documents%20and%20Settings\meMy%20Documents\My%20Videos
The target URL is selected from a file chooser and looks fine before it's passed to the MediaLocator.
    What's going on?

URLs, by default, replace spaces with '%20'. Common knowledge, moving on.Really! Never come across that, and neither has anyone else on the team (or at least not for files anyway).Yep. [RFC 1738|http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1738.txt] defines spaces as unsafe characters, and mandates that all unsafe characters be encoded using the % octet encoding scheme.
Anyway, no I'm not explicitly prefixing the protocol, instead just using file.toURI().toURL().
Dumping the URL shows that the protocol is correct, e.g. file:/C:/yadayada.avi on WindowsRather than doing that, because file.toURI().toURL() should result in replacing spaces with %20, I'd recommend trying the following...
    MediaLocator ml = new MediaLocator("file:/"+file.getCanonicalPath());

  • Portfolio Document Restriction Trouble

I am using Adobe 9 Pro to create a large PDF portfolio that contains other PDF portfolios. This will be used by many different people using only Adobe reader.
I chose to use PDF portfolios because a video forum put on by Adobe specifically said Adobe reader users would be able to Add Files to portfolios.
But now when i send out the final product to users, they are unable to make any changes to the file.
The Security Method i have is "No Security" and under the Document Restriction Summary, all actions are "Allowed". But the users are telling me, on their screens, it shows many of the actions as "Not Allowed".
Other forums have said one could either "Enable for commenting and analysis in Adobe Reader" under the Comment tab or "Extend Features in Adobe Reader" under the Advanced tab. But, both of these options are greyed out.
I have put a lot of time and work into this, and am trying to meet a deadline, so any advice on how to salvage the situation would be very appreciated!

  • MMS Hidden columns appearing in Document Library Settings / Column list

    Hello all,
Before you read this please be aware that I have found a resolution (that might be helpful to others) but I am wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing and the cause.
    Our scenario is as follows:
We use a Content Type hub
Most Content Types include one or more Managed metadata columns
The MMS Notes (hidden) columns (e.g. mms_column_name_0) have appeared on the 'Document Library Settings page under 'Columns' for 2 document libraries only. They appear under the actual name of the column (e.g. mms_column_name).
They are NOT visible to the user however (i.e. they are not selectable to be used in a view)
Looking at SharePoint Manager the mms Notes column's are marked as being Hidden = false. Altering this to true has the desired effect.
But has anyone else experienced the same issue as I'm inquisitive as to the cause.
The only thing I can think of that caused this to happen was us using 'Metadata navigation settings' (which allows you to configure navigation hierarchies) for the first time on one of the 2 Doc Libs effected . However, on testing it on other document
libraries the unhiding of columns has not occurred.
Can anyone shed any why this may have occurred?
    Jason

    Hi jasonl27,
    this behaviour:
This is by design. Two separate lists do not have any type of relationship established to distinguish that the
columns are the same. For example, take an arbitrary column called "Position" being created on two different custom lists. Because the column Position is a custom column created
in the list, it has no mapping to other lists. The "Position"
in one list could refer to a title of a person
in one list, or a physical location on a different list. SharePoint cannot tell if these two items are the same or completely different. As a result, a new column name is added when we move the item.
perhaps you may try to do these steps:
    $site = Get-SPSite -Identity "http://......../"
    $web = $site.RootWeb
    $field=$web.Fields["column name"]
    $field.Update($true)
    $field.Hidden= "True"
    $web.Dispose()
    $site.Dispose()

  • How can I get firefox to not save pdf files (such as bank statements I have looked at) to my documents and settings/temp folder?

I just realized that some (but not all pdf files that I have opened) pdf files of bank statements as well as other pdf files that I have opened when browsing with firefox have been saved to my documents and settings/temp folder. I am concerned about this for security of my data, but also confused as to why all of these documents (as well as some word documents and other types of non .tmp files) are being stored here. Please tell me how to stop this from happening.
    Thank you,
    Wimajeanne

I can understand that they would appear there if I have the document open, or have recently viewed it. These documents are over a month old, some are over a year old.
Also, it is not just PDF files, I also see word docs and java.exe files in this folder. None of these files have the %temp% in the title as they do when I have a particular document open, rather they are a copy of the file or document that I have saved to my data file.
My main concern is the security of information when random PDF and doc files are stored here without my knowledge.
    Thank you.
