Document size / contect menue: no more "packet content"

I work with system 10.6.1 and iWork'09. (German version)
Now Pages makes documents of huge size with the new system:
630.1 MB comes down to 11.4 MB if I zip the file.
I was wondering what's inside the file to make it so fat and big.
1. I couldn't find the well known item "packet content" (or similar). I had to save it first under the option "iWork'08" and there I have this item and could open the packet.
2. I found some very big TIFF droppedImage (20 MB and larger) coming from MathType 6.0a
Well what happens here? Can I do something to solve this problem?

Well...

I don't really understand the difference between iWorks'08 and iWorks'09 in storing the files. But this is not very important for me...
It's really important.
(a) Several mail apps are unable to accet an 'old fashioned' document due to the package structure.
We must pack these documents in a compressed format like zip or sit to be able to attach them.
FlatFiles may be attached directly.
(b) File recovery applications are able to recover flatFiles, they are unable to recover packages.
(c) alas, it seems that flatFiles are more prone to corruption than packages.
(d) this is why, for my own use, I set iWok's applications to save as packages and keep backups zipped by myself (in fact by my Autosave script).
2.
Yes it's MathType fault of course... but I studied MathType a bit closer now: If I insert a formula by copy-paste it's a huge TIFF-file, but if I use the inbuilt menue which is created in Pages when I installed MathType (Insert: MathType Equation) the insertet picture is in pic-format and comes down from 15 MB to 4 KB. Surprisingly!
3.
I checked the influence of the box "store a preview in the document": practicly now difference concerning the size of the file.
I saw documents with a more than 10MBytes preview file so the difference was important.
But I made tests with the first release of iWork '09 and reported the problem to Apple.
Maybe they changed the 'quality' setting used when building the embedded preview.
I will make some new tests for see.
BINGO, they made changes !
In the first release, the preview was built with the very higher quality.
With my sample file this gave a 13 Mbytes file
In the lower quality setting the exported file was a 128 Kbytes one.
Now, when I save the same document with the Preview embedded, the stored Preview.pdf file is a 40Kbytes one.
Of course, the quality is not the same but the impact upon document size is huge.
The new code creates a Preview.pdf which is sufficient for what it is designed to do.
If we need a high quality PDF, we are free to build one.

    It seems that your print drivers are limiting your options. Using a different print driver may help.

  • New Document size

    Hi everyone,
    I am trying to figure out how to setup the next document:
    Bleed: 8.625" X 11.125"
    Trim: 8.375" x 10.875"
    Live Area: 7.875 X 10:375"
    I am not sure, but I created the document size of the bleed: 8.625" X 11.125", but then I added bleed .125"
    I am very confused. Please any help?
    Thanks,

    Of course you should feel free to design outside the "live area," just don't put anything critical outside it.
    Bleed allowances are added to protect against misalignment of a page in the cutter. If the page is shifted so the cut is outside the theoretical page boundary on one edge, it will be cut inside the theoretical boundary on the opposite edge by an equal amount, so the "safe zone" is the area that will still be left in the worst case scenario if the cuts are off on all four sides on different sheets.
    In this case, the printer is recommending an additional .125 inches all around so your important content cant be closer than .125 to any edge under the worst conditions. You might want to add even more. Note that in a quality printing and binding operation it would be rare to see a full .125 shift with press output, but it isn't outside the realm of possibility for output from a color coper or other digital printing method.

  • Document size in quick look

    Hi Community,
    I installed a new Mac running Snow Leopard and now I have a small document size in quick look. I can change the size by drag and drop the lower right corner but a) the next document is in the same small size and b) when I reopen a document in quick look I adjusted the size before, it will be displayed also in the small size again. In other words the quick look doesn't remember the custom size setting.
    Is there anywhere in the system a way to change the settings of quick look?
    Thx & Bye Tom

    Yes, I have the same issue, text is tiny on my large screen when previewing word or other text documents. The implementation of Quicklook for text could be improved. For images it obviously works great but for text, I would define a "quick look" as a quick scan of the contents, not just the layout, because its text. When you are editing HTML or looking at CVs a lot, you end up needing to read a little to see what the item actually is, as a lot of layouts are the same for these type of documents.

  • Changing ppi changes pixel dimensions but not document size?

    I have an image that is W=4.375 H=6.124 at 355 ppi the pixel dimensions area under Img > Image Size indicates it is W=1553 px H=2174
    When I change the resolution to 72 px it is only changing the pixel dimensions and not the document size. I'm confuesed.
    1. What is the difference between pixel dimensions and document size?
    2. Is the document the same physical size regardless if I make it 200 ppi, 150 ppi or 72?
    Thanks.

    Let me see if I understand all of this:
    - If I change the resolution the print dimension will stay the same, though what is it actually doing to the image if I increase the resolution, though it still is the same print dimension? I am guessing you can not just add pixels to a given size image and expect it to print better.
    - If I change the dimensions, the resolution will change because there will be either more pixels for a smaller area or fewer pixels for a larger area, depending on how I size it.
    Thanks.

  • Default Document Size

    I recently was working on a design for a #10 commercial envelope in InDesign. Ever since then, it seems that #10 envelope has become the default document size that InDesign selects when I create a New File. How can I change the default new document settings?

    Jongware: "You change the default for new documents the same way as just about everything else in InDesign: change it with no documents open. In the case of a default new document size, close all documents, then call up the Document Setup dialog. Set you size and OK the dialog. Done."
    I don't get that behavior. If I call up Document Setup, set the size, and OK the dialog,  then close the document, the new setup is not saved. I think it's better to call up Document Setup, set the size, and then click the Save Preset button; save the Preset as [Default] in the pop-up menu so that it overwrites the previous Default setting.

  • Resize a layer to a percentage of the document size and position in corner

    I need to create a script that places a logo in the corner of my main document but i need the logo to be constrained to a percentage of the document size. my logos needs to live in the bottom right corner of my images and be no larger than 28 percent height and no larger than 60 percent of the width of the document. i need it to constrain proportions of the original file so if the logo is square it will remain square, or if it is more rectangular it will maintain its rectangular shape.  Heres what i've come up with so far, i am pretty inept at scripting so if disregarding my current script is more helpful than building upon it please ignore mine:
    if ( documents.length > 0 )
        var originalDialogMode = app.displayDialogs;
        app.displayDialogs = DialogModes.ERROR;
        var originalRulerUnits = preferences.rulerUnits;
        preferences.rulerUnits = Units.PIXELS;
        try
            app.activeDocument = app.documents[0];    //set active document to 2nd document
            var docRefOne = app.documents[0];
            var refWidth = docRefOne.width;
            var refHeight = docRefOne.height;
            app.activeDocument = app.documents[1];    //set active document to 2nd document
             var docRef = activeDocument;
            //current image dimensions
            var w = docRef.width;
            var h = docRef.height;
            activeDocument.selection.selectAll();
            docRef.selection.copy();   //Copy selection
            app.activeDocument = app.documents[0]; //set first document as active document
            var docRef = activeDocument;
            activeDocument.selection.selectAll();
           docRef.paste(true); //paste into selection
        catch( e )
        // An error occurred. Restore ruler units, then propagate the error back
            // to the user
            preferences.rulerUnits = originalRulerUnits;
           app.displayDialogs = originalDialogMode;
            throw e;
        // Everything went Ok. Restore ruler units

  • Problems with copy and paste document size

    Using Adobe illustrator I have been copying images from a .pdf and then pasting in photoshop having made an action script which does : -
    >Make New document
    preset clipboard
    >Paste
    with aa
    as: smart object
    center: center
    Translate 0, cm , 0cm
    >Save
    As JPEG
    Quality 12
    Matte: none
    In E:/my documents....
    with copy
    most of the time it works but occasionaly pasting into photoshop the clipboard size is wrong it makes it much much smaller,
    even if i bypass using the script and copy from illustrator and in PS try Ctrl N and Ctrl V.
    Sometimes also clipboard isnt even selectable it wants to use a specific document size.
    The only way I can fix it is close down Ai and PS, launch Ai and PS, copy in Ai then in PS press Ctrl N for New, choosing clipboard, Ctrl V to paste enter to confirm, then it seems happy and I can then carry on using my Actions or manually pasting to my hearts content.
    My question is what is causing it to have this quirk, how can I avoid it if possible or is there no avoiding it?

    >> How can I have dreamweaver hold format with

    Generally a bad idea. Word's HTML formatting is notoriously
    flawed. And,
    HTML doesn't allow tabs. You probably need to take time to
    learn (X)HTML &
    CSS before going further. You seem to be headed for disaster
    if you expect
    to just grab text from Word and plop it into a web page with
    good results.
    Web pages are in an entirely different world than Word docs.

  • Document Size is always shown in BYTES

    Hi,
    When you show the Document Size of a File Item in a Content Area,
    the size is always shown in bytes.
    Is there any way to show it in Mbytes or Gbytes?

    You can use a custom item type with a procedure that renders the
    document size in a different format.

  • Photoshop document size problem.

    When I set the display settings to make more working space, Photoshop CC is showing wrong document size. It's scaling down both interface and the very document, what it shouldn't... it should scale down only the interface, and leave the document size as it is.
    Example:
    If I make a document 2880x1800px in size (the resolution of retina screen), and set it on 100% zoom in Photoshop CC, it will be displayed on approx. 70% of the screen!? The only way to display document size properly is setting display settings on "Best for Retina", but than I have no room to work, it's same screen estate as a 10 year old macbook pro 15.
    Is there a solution for this nonsense? Thanks guys!

    Unavoidable. An image consists of pixels. Photoshop is rounding to the nearest whole pixel.

  • Reducing pixel dimensions increases document size.

    In photoshop cs6. Working on an image of 15000x18662 pixels, with about 100+ layers.  doc size 800mb/6.43GB.  To optimize speed, I reduced the file size to the absolute minimum I need which is 13200x16423.  However now the file size grew bigger  620.2M/6.45GB.   Some layers extend beyond the visible image area, so I cropped the image "deleting cropped pixels" , but this increased the image even further to 6.50GB.  What's going on here?
    Why is the file size increasing when I decrease pixel size?
    Why would deleting cropped pixels increase file size?

    This is a user to user Forum.
    If no one who has bothered to read the original post considers it of enough interest to investigate or advise that is up to them.
    Can you provide the original image?
    Depending on the interpolation settings on the content downsampling might result in a lessened effect of the applied compression.
    You seem to give the approximated values from "Document Sizes" in the status bar – what is the actual file’s size?
    Quote from the Reference:
    Document Sizes Displays information on the amount of data in the image. The number on the left represents the printing size of the image
    —approximately the size of the saved, flattened file in Adobe Photoshop format. The number on the right indicates the file’s approximate
    size including layers and channels.

  • Document size and margins

    Please save my sanity!
    I'm trying to create a document that is 3" x 1".  It's a name badge.  Every time I enter my document size I get the following message:
    Specified margin and columns setup does not fit not within the specified page size.
    I've tried adjusting my margins to 0 as well as various other amounts but to no avail.  Still getting the same message
    This is driving me crazy!  It seems like it should be such an easy fix but I'm am just completely missing it.  I should mention that I'm new to InDesign.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    ~Carla

    After over 6 months of myself and co-workers going through the same error, I may have found a permanent solution. With InDesign open, but without a document open on the screen, go to "file"—"document presets"—"define". From there you can check and change your margins and columns to zero on all presets. Once this is done you should not have any more sizing issues. Let me know if this works for you!

  • Changing the document size Attribute

    Is it possible to change the document size Attribute to read in Kilobytes or MegaBytes, not just in bytes?

  • Document size adjustments...

    Hi,
    I'm trying to alter the document size (which is set to inches). The moment I change the # for the Y axis, the X is auto adjusting, and I do not want it to.
    It's even flipping round the #s. I only want to increase the Y.
    How can I stop this glitch?
    thanks!

    It sounds like you are not using the CUSTOM selection in the Document panel. From the dropdown menu that lists sizes (A1, A3, Letter, Tabloid, etc) you need to choose Custom to enter variable X and Y specs. Otherwise it will keep changing your coordinates proportionately to fit the preset size.
    You can also use the Page tool to manually and visually change your page size by stretching the page edges.

  • Mail - image size popup menu missing

    Using Mail 3.6, and the image size popup menu usually in the bottom right corner is missing. Any idea how to reactivate it?
    Thanks!
    YY

    OK, have now experimented some more and it's a bit weird. If you open iPhoto, select the photo(s) you want to send and click on the email button to create the email from within iPhoto, the image size popup menu and message size indicators appear where they should at the bottom of the email window.
    I then tried opening a new email message from within Mail (3.6) and using the Photo Browser to add the same photos to a test message. The image size popup menu and message size indicator appeared at the bottom of the email window again, but the image size menu could only affect the size of the last image in the message, no matter what was selected on the screen.
    Perhaps that might help someone figure out what is going wrong.
