Document specific unit preferences
I work on documents in Metric, US, and also column inches using Picas and inches depending on the client. It would be highly beneficial to have the document keep the units that the layout was originally created in. An example: If someone creates a document that is A4 size and builds all of the grids and so forth with metric units, it would be much easier to have that set as the default for the document, rather than having to guess which measurements someone might have used for their grid system or layout.
Likewise all of the styling would work the same as well.
Evening Peter,
So that's one vote for implementing the Metric system for type (myself) and one vote against?
Rather than using fractions of an imperial inch with the archaic quarters, halves, eighths, sixteenths and so forth, the metric system is all natively divisible by 10 (as a feature). This makes conversion super simple.
By "industry" I'm guessing you're talking about US dominated Desktop Publishing and not printing as in real printing with presses and letter forms. Sheet sizes are available in a variety of measurements overseas, as are press forms. More information about that is widely available in Google (and outside the range of this unintended discussion).
Unfortunately for your argument much of the world is in favor of the metric system. Since typography predates America, it's a bit presumptuous to assume that the rest of the world should use an American Inch based system as a "standard"; an American imperialistic viewpoint on the subject definitely. Much of the world would likely disagree.
While you're almost correct in your assumption that "type has always been spec[ifie]d in points," unfortunately the definition of a point has changed over time, and points weren't always the postscript points you're likely familiar with. That being said, it was Adobe who decided to use the 1/72 of an inch rounded postscript point for type in the first place, deviating from the standard American point a 1⁄72.27 of an inch. for ease in math for their users. Typography before computers was math heavy, and after all computers are supposed to make things easier. Most art majors aren't mathematicians. Before DTP point size wasn't something people had the luxury of changing depending on the printing system they used. They bought their typesets and used them.
While I realize that Adobe adopted the postscript point system back in its early beginnings, there is no reason (now) not to support the metric system for type measurement (in addition to points). The world is a smaller place thanks to the Internet. Companies now span continents. There is a required conversion from points to inches to metrics required for people not familiar with the US based point system.
If the software were to keep the "mm" measurement instead of converting to points it would be an added feature and improve the learning curve for metric based countries.
Additionally it would make metric system grid based layouts much easier to utilize.
Having taught typography at a college level for several years with experience explaining the various type sizes with points, EMs and so forth, I can safely say introducing this notion to people who aren't familiar with the US system is quite tedious. Introducing points, picas, and EMs for American art students is tedious in and of itself. Would it make the application harder to use... no.
When using a grid system based on metrics, the hold-out inch based measuring system for point size is the only thing keeping Adobe from cross border perfection in terms of the user friendliness. That and my other feature requests about making the UX/UI more intuitive.
Best Regards,
-Chris

InDesign CS5.5 won't respect Units Preference
My Units preferences are set to inches, but new documents are still formatted in points.
Once the document is created, rulers appear in points, and when I open Preferences again, sure enough, units are set to points.
Once I change it back to inches, my rulers change and everything is fine, until I create the next new document.
Looks like a bug to me... or am I missing some new setting?So lame that this is still a problem... Glad to have found this thread tho...
I guess I was lucky because in CC I had set indesign up with no documents open... But when 2014 forced me to re-install i figured all my prefs would follow over... Man was I wrong
Well I am set up now... But adobe... you guys... should really fix the program so you can change the defaults with out having to do it in a special way... More user intuitive... -
New page defaults to picas even when changed to mm in unit preferences
everytime i open a new document in indesign CC the new document dialog box shows the page measurments as picas even thought i would have changed it to mm in the unit preferences. It just reverts back again.
how can i stop this from happening. i have been able to come up with some work arounds but its just time consuming to do everytime i create a new document.
its really frustrating as i my work is mostly for print and i alway use mm.Change the preferences with no documents open.
All new documents will have those preferences. -
Illustrator - Units Preference Not Remembered
Is anyone experiencing any issues with the Units Preference not being remembered? Every time I relaunch Illustrator CC 2014 the units reset to Points, I have to go and change it every time.

Hi
I am working on Batch specific unit of measure.
I want to use mg as Base unit and ML as production unit.
If i use batch specific unit as ML system is not allowing to enter this in in propotion unit tab in material master as it belongs to Dimention.
If i select unit of measure as B sytem is calculating reverse of my expected result.
Can anybody help on this..
Rgds
GobiHi Gobikannan,
I am not sure but might be only Non Dimensional Unit are allowed for Batch Specific Unit.
Check it by creating new Unit Something like AML (ML active ingredient)

Pblm in Converting BUOM to Batch specific unit of measure
Hi Gurus
I am Facing a Problem in converting the base unit of measure to batch specific unit of measure.
I have given BUOM in KG.Batch specific unit of measure is PC.
When i do GR for the material in KG with the average wt of the material in kg in the classification view
the system is increasing my GR KG to convert the material to PCS .
I dont want KG to be increased but the PCs to be rounded off to next integer.
How can i resolve this pblm??
NB:- All the settings are done correctly
and all the notes are applicable in ECC 604
Thanks and Regards

Did you assing any Rounding value and Rouding Profile in MRP1-MM01 for this item ?? Do not maintained this option in MRP1 and check wether you have Kept rouing vadule against KG in CUNI ??
Basically , if you maintain the profile then it will rounds up to the next level based on the thresold valu as configuired in your case in Rouidng Profile in OWD1 .
Also check in MM-Purcahsing -Order Optimisation -Unit of Measure of Rounding rules for purchased item .This based on the control of optimisation of qty.
Hope it helps

Mass deletion of Batch specific unit of measure
Dear Experts,
How to delete the batch specific unit of measure in the material master maintained in the additional data -unit of measure and proportional / production unit of measure in mass . We have some 1000 material for which we want to remove the datas related to batch specific unit of measure from the material master.I have not yet seen an option to delete data with MM17, but I am open to be educated.
I would suggest you do it with LSMW or CATT.
However, test it first in MM02, before you waste your time with mass processing. You might receive errors if that material was already in use and batches exist. -
Set unit preferences (Javascript)
I can't find a way to set the unit preferences for Illustrator CS6/CC using JavaScript.
I found that this works (setting units for stroke):
var units = 2; // 0-inches, 1-milllimeters, 2-points
app.preferences.setIntegerPreference("strokeUnits", units)
But I want to set the ruler units ("General" in the interface), and this does not work:
app.preferences.setIntegerPreference("rulerUnits", units)
Any help?
PeterTen,
Yes, this works, finally! Thank you very much with this simple but poorly documented feature.
I noticed that the unit mapping is: 0: inches, 1: mm, 2: points, 3: pica, 4: cm, 5: custom, 6: pixels

Activation of Batch Specific Unit of Measure in IS-Retail System
Hi experts,
In our scenario for Articles, Client work with kg, but also want to keep track of the number of pieces.
I am trying to MAP this Process using Batch Specific Unit of Measure functionality in IS-Retail.
Is it Possible to Use the Batch Specific Unit of Measure functionality in IS-Retail System.
In Article Master, I couldnt find any "Classification View" or "Proportion/Product unit" Tab.
Also is it possible to capture the Batch Characteristics through Interface ???

Batch specific units of measure
Hi experts,
I've been reading about Batch specific units of measure and I've make some tests following the indications in this blog:
/people/raja.ramasamy/blog/2010/02/22/batch-specific-units-of-measure-step-by-step-configuration-for-steel-industry
In our scenario we work with kg, but we want to keep track of the number of pieces.
But we don't want to introduce the average weight of each batch, we would like to inform the total amount of kg and the number of pieces. Is possible?
ThanksHi,
You can maintain info record for the same by using Tcode-ME11 . you can find conversion factor under Purchasing Org1.
Example - Material XYZ, 50KG=1 BAG ,Base UOM in Material Master as BAG
then conversion factor in Info record as follows
Order Unit will be KG
And conversion factor will be 50KG=1BAG.

Batch specific unit of measurement.
Dear Gurus,
My client is getting raw materials in ingots by unit of measurement in Weight.
But at the time of issue we have to consider lenght and weight. we can not use unit of conversion for the same because iron ingot diameter varies slightly, so we have decided to use the batch specific unit of measurement.
But after creating class and characteristic system is not showing the same in proportion unit in master data.
I think there may be somthing missing in the customization.
Kindly elaborate customization so that i can check and correct accordingly.
Thank you,
Anup.maintian organisation area - S in the basic data of class( CL02) and also maintain same value (S) against the particular characteristic in the char tab .Now it will appear in the material master .
appreciate if it is helpful -
Batch-specific Unit of Measures
Hi,
1. I have activating batch-specific Unit of Measures, but in MIGO don't show me field for input batch unit. Can you tell me how and where set up - for working with batch-specific Unit of measures.
2. Which tables link is between batch and classification, where I use class type 023-batch. (which fields can I join).
Thanks for your advice.Batch Specific Unit of measures is what was originally called Active Ingredients Management.
You need to set up QM and classification for this, MIGO will not give you additional field for entering quantity in separate UOM

Suggestions please?
Is there a link where I can download the completed solution to the BizTalk Server Tutorial 1 Enterprise Application Integration ?
Thanks in advance..1) Check the GAC and ensure that the schema is there, be sure the version numbers are the same.
2) You should also restart the host instance and try again.
To check that the schema exists and is deployed properly open the query analyser on your BizTalk Server and
use the BizTalkMgmtDb and run the query below. In the where clause place the correct target namespace and root node name which is being reported in the error log from the Event Viewer.
Select msgtype, assemblyid, clr_namespace, clr_assemblyname
from bt_documentspec
where msgtype = targetnamespace#rootnode;
3) Check the sample XML, its without namespace. Generate instance from the schema and then try.
Should be
<ProductCatalogInformation xmlns="http://MondaySchemas.Schema1"><\ProductCatalogInformation>
What
you need to do to fix "There was a failure executing the receive pipeline… failed to load. Verify the schema for this document specification is deployed and is in the Global Assembly Cache" Error after deploying BizTalk Solution
You can get everything you need to learn about BizTalk here at Learning

Reseting a specific Sort Preference independant from the current App_ID
Hi,
I want to reset a specific User Sort Preference. That is no problem, look in the report "current User Preferences" and reset the name with apex_util.remove_preference.
But I have 3 systems with different App_IDs Developing = 220, Test = 320 and Production = 420. So this specific sort preference has different names in different versions (FSP220_P20_R...., FSP320_P20_R...)
I dont want to reset all preferences for the user. Is there any solution...?
Thanks, JuergenHi Vijay!
Have a look at my post: http://ioi.solutions/easy-way-get-sharepoint-context/
It will save you a lot of your time.
SPLoader.js file has example of updating/deleting items:
function updateCheckList(list,listItemId,fields) {
var deferred = $.Deferred();
SpLoader.ready(function () {
var listName = list;
var oList = SpLoader.hostWeb.get_lists().getByTitle(listName);
var oListItem = oList.getItemById(listItemId);
$.each(fields, function (index,item) {
oListItem.set_item(item.fname, item.value);
oListItem.update();
SpLoader.context.executeQueryAsync(
function () {
deferred.resolve("Operation successfully completed.");
function (sender, args) {
deferred.resolve('Request failed. ' + args.get_message() + '\n' + args.get_stackTrace());
return deferred.promise();
In the above example I am dynamically updating fields with new values.
fields= [{fname:'field1',value:1},{fname:'field2',value:0},....]
