Documentary Batches with Batch Management at Material Level

Hi,
We have configured batch managment at the material level, and turned on for our materials. This applies to all plants that a material is extended to. Problem is that some plants don't have capability to (or do not need to) trace individual batches. So a "Generic" batch number approach is usually used in those few plants - but this of course still requires that the "Generic" batch number be supplied in all transactions. Some of those plants have just a more limited requirement of batch traceability (e.g. just at receipt or despatch, but not anything else like physical inventory).
The functions of Documentary Batches seem most appealing. However, according to documentation, and in our tests, it seems that the batch management setting will always suppress the documentary batch functions in a plant, even if we only want generic batches.
Does anyone know how to allow documentary batches for certain plants to override the "Batch at Material level" setting? P.S. We are not able anymore to re-configure the batch to material-plant level.
FYI - I have searched Forums, Wiki, Support portal, SAP Help and Release Documentation.
Cheers,
Jeff

  • Batch Management - Changing Material level to Plant level

    Hi friends,
We are configuring batch management for ECC 6.0 with CRM 5 .
I can see the batch level in my system as Material level. But we would like to convert  batch level in to Plant level. when i try to convert the batch level i am getting error "This type of conversion is not implemented".
There is no batch record exists in the stock.
Please clarify why can't able to change to plant level from material level.
    Thanks

  • Batch level settings conversion from plant-to-plant to material-level

If someone has worked on conversion of Batch level settings within SAP from plant-to-plant to material-level batch management, please let me know what are the challenges involved in doing this. Thanks.

    Check help !!!
To change the batch level, you have to start a conversion program. This program first checks whether conversion is possible and outputs an error log containing all batch numbers that occur more than once at the new level. Now you need to manually transfer these batch records to batch numbers within Inventory Management using a transfer posting 'material to material'.
If you change the level from plant level to a higher level, it is possible that batches with the same batch numbers in different plants are actually identical.  In this case, all you have to do is remove stocks (including previous period stocks) so that all batches with the same batch numbers, except one, can be reorganized.
When you convert from plant level to material level, the material is then to be handled in batches in all plants in which it is defined.
    Standard settings
In the standard delivery batches are uniquely defined at material level.
    Activities
To change the batch level, proceed as follows:
    1. Choose the level at which you want your batches to be unique.
    2. Save the new settings and choose Back.
    3. Choose Batch level -> Conversion.
    4. If necessary, carry out the conversion in test mode first.
    Further notes
Note that you cannot reset conversion from plant level to a higher level in the standard.
If you create a client by copying an existing client, initially, there are no settings in the target client at batch level. The system makes the settings in the target client only when you have carried out an activity (maintaining master data or posting a goods movement, for example). The client level is not transported. If you copy a client with client level, you have to manually set the client level in the target system.

  • Split valuation with batch management and project stock

    Dear Gurus,
I need to combine two following requirements:
    1. split valuation with batch management (valuation type = batch number)
    2. project stock
These two functionalities work fine separately but not together.
I receipt PO for material with spiit valuation on a batch level into a project stock. Posting is OK and material document (MSEG table) seems to be OK (batch number, valuation type and project stock are in this table). The problem appears when I want to display material in this valuation type (MM03) or batch (MSC3n). They don't exist!!!  Short investigation showed that during goods receipt table MBEW (valuated stock) was not updated with this valuation type.
But If PO is receipt into normal stock first and then posted into project stock everything is OK.
Have you had or heart about such issue? I would appreciate any sugestion.
    Thsnks in advance.
    Marcin Bernat

    Hi,
As you already know ,u are using project stock and doing goods receipt against project, stock table QBEW will be updated and not MBEW. MBEW only updates in case of plant stock valuation. If u receive any goods against project stock it does not contribute to plant stock. Irrespective whether your material is managed in split valuation or not, If it is received against project stock it only updates QBEW. There is no need to update MBEW, if u r using split valuation in project. QBEW also have valuation type as another level like MBEW. If u want to see material price for project stock, it can be  seen in QBEW -valuation type and not in mm03.
As u r receiving goods against project stock this is d only reason QBEW is updated and not MBEW.
QBEW will store all information like MBEW for batch number, valuation type and project stock assignment.
    Hope it answers your question.
    Deepak.

  • Valuation type with batch management.

    Dear all:
We have created our self valuation category D, without automatic valuation type.
From what we have checked, it is mandatory to enter a valuation type during batch creation with MSC1N. This link between batch master and valuation type is impossible to change.
Our plan was to employ 2 valuation types, independently of the batch used, so that with a STO we could be able to post and outbound movement from valuation type A and a subsequent inbound goods receipt of valuation type B.
That's a problem for us as we use batch numbers to refer to certain material features, and those shouldn't change given the valuation type, so that it is mandatory for us to use the same batch number for both valuation types. Given that the link between batch master and valuation type is unbreakable, this looks not possible.
We already tried to de-activate the valuation type as a required field during the batch creation, but it didn't work as the field still needed an entry during the saving. There are also several error messages that would need to be de-activated (M7043, 06649...)
If we cannot use two valuation types with the same batch, is there any solution we can manage, besides of the duplication of batch numbers?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, Jürgen, thanks for your comments.
We have as well the batch management at plant level, but our idea was to use split valuation in order to avoid the use of plant as the minimum valuation level, as this would have further issues regarding the logistic side (we can use the stock determination group to solve this when using split valuation).
So we face the problem that with a given batch number we cannot post movements with two different valuation types.
I'll take a look at the note anyway, thanks for your help.

  • Spilt valuation with batch management?

    Gurus,
I want to activate split valuation with batch management..
i know the configuration of doing split valuation..
but, i need help on batch management configuration...

    hi,
Why do you want both at the same time??
Either split val. or batch management independently can solve your issues...
Please let me know the reason...
    For split valuation :
To select split valuation ('OMWC'), proceed as follows:
    1. Determine the valuation categories and valuation types that are allowed for all valuation areas:
global valuation categories via menu "Goto --> Global Categories"
global valuation types via menu "Goto --> Global Types"
    2. Allocate the valuation types to the valuation categories.
    a) Select "Goto --> Global Categories".
    b) Position the cursor on a valuation category and select
    "Goto --> Global Categories --> Assignments --> 'Types->Category'".
    c) Activate the valuation types you want.
    3. Determine the local valuation categories for each valuation area.
    a) Select "Goto --> Local definitions".
    b) Position the cursor on a valuation area and select
    "Goto --> Local Definitions --> Allocate Categoires->Org.units (button Cats->(OU)".
You obtain a list of the global valuation categories.
    c) Activate the categories to be used in this valuation area.
The system creates the local valuation types based on the allocations under point 2.
Only now can you create a master record with split valuation.
Specifying Split Valuation by creating Material Subject to Split Valuation
    1. Create a material master record, selecting the Accounting View 1.
    2. Enter your data as required on the Accounting data screen, specifying a valuation category.
(If you can't find the valuation category field, it might be hidden, use OMSR to define the Field Groups.
Look for the field MBEW-BWTTY for Valuation category).
    3. Be sure that the price control indicator is V for moving average price and enter a moving average price.
    4. In the case of split valuation, you can create only one valuation header record with price control V because the
individual stock values are cumulated, and this total value is written to the valuation header record. This is where the
individual stocks of a material are managed cumulatively. To do this, fill in the Valuation category field on the accounting
screen when you create the material master record and leave the Valuation type field blank.
    5. Save your data and the system creates the valuation header record.
    6. The initial screen appears.
    7. Extend the material by creating new material master records from the Accounting view 1. For the first material, specify a
valuation type in the Organizational Levels dialog box and enter the respective accounting data on the data screen.
Proceed likewise for the other materials, distinguishing between them by valuation type. To do this, call up the material in
creation mode again. Due to the fact that a valuation header record exists, the system requires you to enter a valuation
    type for the valuation category.
    8. Repeat step seven for every valuation type planned.
You want to valuate the stock of material XYZ that you obtain from manufacturer A in Los Angeles at a different price than the stock you obtain from manufacturer B in Detroit. In this case, the valuation category is H for origin. Your valuation types can be LOS ANGELES and DETROIT.
If a material is subject to split valuation, every quantity (sub-stock) of this material must be assigned to a valuation type (for example, country of origin).
For every valuation type, there are two types of data in the system, as follows:
Valuation data (for example, valuation price, total stock quantity, total stock value), which is defined for every valuation type at valuation-area level and applies to all dependent storage locations.
Stock data, which, like batch data, is managed separately for each storage location. If a material that is subject to split valuation is also subject to management in batches, its stock data is not managed by valuation type, but rather by batch. Every batch is assigned to a valuation type.
The stock quantity, stock value, and valuation price for all valuation types are managed cumulatively at valuation-area level

  • Packing handling units to outbound delivery with batch management

    Hello all,
I am packing an outbound delivery with a material that has batch management active. The packing is from a storage location that manages handling units (HU-managed sloc).
My problem is u2013 before entering the HUs to the delivery u2013 the system asks me to enter the batches (in the batch split function). Only then I am allowed to enter the HUs in the packing function.
What could be the reason for this preliminary batch entries ?
How can I set the system not to do that, i.e., I would like to be able to enter the HUs directly without entering the batchs separately.
    Thanks,
    Isaac

    Dear Isaac,
this system behaviour can not be changed in standard and is also not recommended to change it via a modification. The reason for this system behaviour is to avoid inconsistencies in the system. The HU that you assign to the delivery, should exactly fit to the delivery. In case if the material is batch managed, you should specify the batch first, and then add the fitting HU with exactly that batch.
I suppose you checked the longtext for HUDIALOG102, that you get in the described case, but I copy it for you, in case if you did not read it:
    "Diagnosis
There are items to be handled in batches which have not yet been
    assigned to a batch.
Batches must be recognized for items with HU-managed storage location
For items at a storage location that is not HU-managed, the item type
determines if packing will take place at cumulated item quantity level
(meaning that the batch is not recognized at any point in the handling
unit) or if packing must take place at batch level.
    System Response
If an item requires batch identification, that item will not be
suggested for packing as long as the batch is not recognized.
    Procedure
Go to the maintenance of the delivery item and assign at least one batch
    to the item."

  • Classification purchase order (with batch management)

    Hi,
I need some help in the next situation:
I need to order a material with batch management. I've used the classification system to assign the material specifications to the material of a batch. When I create a purchase order I want to specify some caracteristics as a lowest level than the material level, but that specifications are not real, it's a kind of a limitation.
I don't now if I can use some classification of purchase order or somthing like that.
    Thanks a lot and regards.

    Create characteristics CT04
    Process to create class CL02
when you create a class with type 001 it is Material class, it means when you assign the class at the material level you are assigning those characteristics to the material not to the specific batches.
But if you create a class with type 023 it is batch class. You will assign this class at the material when creating in MM01 under classification tab and check the Batch management tab in purchasing or sales data while creating a material.
This will help you to classify each batch with different characteristic values. when you create the batch with MSC1n you batch will be automatically classified with the batch class from material and you can give the values over there.
You can give the values for the batch when you receive the batch in MIGO, even though u give the batch in PO u can give the details in classification for that batch in MIGO when u receive it in the item tab "Batch" there is button classification to give those values.
    hope it helps.

  • Batch at material level

    Hi all,
I want to use batch at material level.
i.e. for every material number batch should start from the same series.
e.g. If I want to use batch for 5 materials say A,B,C,D,E.
And I have given batch number range as 0000000001 to 9999999999, then when I do GR for A, then first batch shud be
0000000001, after this if I receive mat B, its batch should also b 0000000001. Then again if I receive mat A, then next batch shud b 0000000002, again next if I receive mat C, then its first batch shud b 0000000001.
Will it b possible if I activate batch at material level or need some other configurations also?

Unfortunately SAP does not fulfill your requirement via a configuration. But there is the option of a user exit that gives you enough flexibility.
You can use SAP enhancement  SAPLV01Z for this purpose.
o   EXIT_SAPLV01Z_001. You use this exit to replace the number range
object and/or interval proposed by the system with your own number
        range object and/or interval.
In addition, you can, for instance, stop the system from assigning
an internal number depending on the material or plant. You can also
use this exit to stop the dialog box from appearing.
o   EXIT_SAPLV01Z_002. Using this exit, you can either change the number
assigned by the system, or assign your own number.
Check the documentation at this node in IMG for more information:
Logistics - General > Batch Management > Batch Number Assignment > Configure Customer Exits for Intern. Batch Number Assignment
Your requirement is a generic one and often used in the food industry.

  • Batch Material level and Material Master

    Hello,
We have defined the batch level on level "Material" because we want the batchnumber to be unique for a material - independent of the plant it is used in.
I would like to know if with this setting of the config, the material X marked with the flag "Batch Managed" in its master record, should be managed with batches in all Plants or is it posbilbe to exclude some plants (for instance plants belonging to other country) from managing the material X in batches?
    Thanks for any reply,
    Aart.

you can only exclude plants from managing batches for a common material if your batch level is plant level.
with material level, all plants have to manage a common material with batches.

  • Client level, plant level and material level batch

    Hi,
Can any body tell me wat is the actual meaning of
    !) Client level batch,
    2) plant level batch,
    3) material level batch
    with exa. please.
    Thanks
    Nilesh Ithape

    Hi,
Below is the extract from the IMG Documentstion..
    ====================================================================
Batch numbers can be unique at the following levels:
    at plant level
    at material level
at client level for a material
If you choose plant level, the batch number is unique in conjunction with the respective material and the plant. If you choose material level, the batch number is unique together with the material. At client level, the batch number is unique in the whole client.

    Hope this helps..

  • How to deactivate batch management at material master?

    Dear Sir/Madam,
At the configuration,I have set "Batch Management" to be activated in plant level.  I have a problem which some of the plants do not use batch management.I understand that if you tick "Batch Management" field in material master, batch management is activated for the material in that plant.
    1. How do prevent user to tick "Batch Management" field in the material master which appears in the following views (depending on the material types):?
    - Sales: General/Plant
    - Purchasing
    - Plant data/Stor.1
    - Work Scheduling
    2. Is there any alternate way to prevent user to activate "Batch Management" in that material of their own plant despite it is activated at plant level in the configuration?
    Please advise.
    Thanks.
    Rgds,
    Esther Chong

batch status management is just what its name says, you manage your batches with status (unreastricted use, restricted use).
But his comes only into place after you have activated batch managment, it is not causing batch managment, it is only working with batch managment.
Removing batch managment is almost impossible, you have to archive all batches first, to be able to archive the batches, you have to archive the production orders...creation of a new material is in most cases easier and quicker.
Wit batch managment at plant level each plant can independently decide if a material is batch managed or not.
if you want to restrict the entry of the batch management flag, then you have to customize your material master field selection at plant level.
