Hello. Not sure this will help you much, but figured I would give you my thoughts. I have never seen official documentation on SAP FMs. For me, it's been a matter of figuring what is there and how they work, as needed.
Mainly, I would just look at the source code to get an idea of what the FM is doing. Then also find where the FM is being called from other programs/FMs. That would give you an idea of how other processes are utilizing the FM as well as what they are passing and how they are handling the returned data.
Maybe others know if actual documentation, but I have never seen it and usually just figure them out as mentioned above.

I agree, the basic documentation at the jakarta site is good, but needs a little polishing/updating.
Use google to do a search, and wade through loads of stuff before coming up with the answers, or this site is pretty good too!!!!!
Unfortunately, all the answers are not always forthcoming until you know which questions to ask (or the relevant words to enter into a search engine).

Types of Exits 
There are several different types of user exits. Each of these exits acts as hooks where you can attach or "hang" your own add-ons.
Menu Exits
Menu exits add items to the pulldown menus in standard SAP applications. You can use these menu items to call up your own screens or to trigger entire add-on applications.
SAP creates menu exits by defining special menu items in the Menu Painter. These special entries have function codes that begin with "+" (a plus sign). You specify the menu items text when activating the item in an add-on project.
Screen Exits
Screen exits add fields to screens in R/3 applications. SAP creates screen exits by placing special subscreen areas on a standard R/3 screen and calling a customer subscreen from the standard screens flow logic.
Function Module Exits 
Function module exits add functions to R/3 applications. Function module exits play a role in both menu and screen exits.
When you add a new menu item to a standard pull down menu, you use a function module exit to define the actions that should take place once your menu is activated.
Function module exits also control the data flow between standard programs and screen exit fields. SAP application developers create function module exits by writing calls to customer functions into the source code of standard R/3 programs.
These calls have the following syntax:
CALL CUSTOMER-FUNCTION 001.
Field Exits
Field exits allow you to create your own programming logic for any data element in the Dictionary. You can use this logic to carry out checks, conversions, or business-related processing for any screen field. Example: The data element BBBNR identifies a companys international location number. You might want to set up your R/3 System so that all international location numbers are larger than 100.
The field exit concept lets you create a special function module that contains this logic.
You assign the special function module to the data element BBBNR. You then assign the module to any programs and screens in which users can add new international location numbers. When you activate your field exit, the system automatically triggers your special routine whenever a user enters a company location number.
In 4.6c, you can use "RSMODPRF" program to create field exits.
An example of a user exits :-

 CASE sy-dynnr.
 WHEN '100'.
 SET SCREEN 0.
 LEAVE SCREEN.
 WHEN '200'.

Does anyone know anything about iPhones and/or iPads having barcode scanners for business purposes? I am doing some research about the benefits of using a Q R Code type of system, but question which handheld sets would be more compatible for using that type of barcode. Being a avid Apple supporter, I cannot seem to find very much research on this specific topic.
Any thoughts?

I have a QR reader on my iphone. Works just brill. I've used it to create business cards, with a boat load more information on it (Including my duty times, etc)
Most of the QR readers in the App store are free, so give them a try. You can copy and paste the data just like normal text.
What application for them did you have in mind?

NWDI integrated in NW2004S SR2 : fundamentals and documentations about NWDI

Hi Gurus,
We deployed NW2004S SR2 platform with EP 7.0 for development system.
As we planned to deploy EP 7.0 for Quality and, in fine, for Production system/portal, we have been told that NWDI (selected during NW2004S setup) could enable to develop and transport portal content from on system/portal to another.
Then, could you please provide me where it will be possible to get documentation (installation & configuration) and/or fundamentals about this new tool (i said '*"new" although this existed since previous NW's releases)

Challange? business flow: subcontractor and automatic transfer

Hi All,
Does anybody know how to solve the following business flow:
1) We use subcontracting contracts and subcontracting call off purchase orders.
2) We send material x, and get material y back.
3) Before the first call off, we like to send 1000 PC of material x in reference to the subcontracting contracts.
4) After sending the standard subcontracting process starts. Up and down of stock.
Challange: how can I send the 1000 PC in advance of the first contract?
Can I make a vendor storagelocation which can be filled automatically?
If so, please help me how to do this. Points awarded. If any other scenario
is doing the job. please let me know.

Dear,
You can automate the transfer of material from your normal stroage location to your subcontacting storage location. This is by using the storage location MRP.
In MRP4 view delcare that the storage location is planned seperately and give replanishment and reorder qty as per your consumption. Once the actual qty is withdrawn from subcontacting storage location, new reservation created automatically from subcontacting storage location to noraml storage location requesting for the qty. then you need to run MB1B against this reservation to get the stock.
