Documentation bug: ADF Guide for Forms / 4GL Developers

In section 34.11.1, page 1048, step 3 of the instructions for switching Embedded OC4J to JDK 1.4 reference the ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/instance/application-deployments directory. However, in both 10.1.3 and 10.1.3.1, the application-deployment directory is found only under C:\jdevstudio1013\jdev\system\oracle.j2ee.10.1.3.36.73\embedded-oc4j (for 10.1.3)
and C:\Jdevstudio10131\jdev\system\oracle.j2ee.10.1.3.39.84\embedded-oc4j (for 10.1.3.1).

  • Possible Error in Tutorial for Forms/4GL Developers 10g Release 3 (10.1.3)?

I am just running through the above mentioned tutorial and it seems to me there is an
error on page 56 in the tutorial, in the chapter Exposing Linked Views in an Application Module
It states you have to put the following in the where clause:
    (:Bind_UserId = ServiceRequest.CREATED_BY OR :Bind_UserId =
    ServiceRequest.ASSIGNED_TO)
However it didn't work, but I saw my entity object was named ServiceRequests (with an s) thus the following worked:
    (:Bind_UserId = ServiceRequests.CREATED_BY OR :Bind_UserId =
    ServiceRequests.ASSIGNED_TO)
Can someone verify if it's me or the tutorial that has the error ?

    Hi,
This is not the right forum to discuss Forms/4GL Developers. Please try the ADF or general App Server forums for this question.

  • ADF Developer's Guide For Forms/4GL b ERRATA /b

In 27.9 Creating a View Object with Multiple Updatable Entities I believe that the following sentence :
When you create a view object with multiple entity usages, you can enable a secondary entity usage to be updatable by selecting it in the Selected list of the Entity Objects panel of the View Object Editor and:
        * Selecting the Reference checkbox
        * Deselecting the Updatable checkboxis wrong. I think it's the obsolute opposite. We should read :
When you create a view object with multiple entity usages, you can enable a secondary entity usage to be updatable by selecting it in the Selected list of the Entity Objects panel of the View Object Editor and:
        * Selecting the Updatable checkbox
        * Deselecting the Reference checkboxCan someone from Oracle confirm that ?

You are correct. This error has been previously reported in bug# 5532082.
You're suggestion that the current wording is exactly backwards is correct, and will be fixed in an upcoming revision of the guide.
    Thanks.

  • From Product Management - Hands-on ADF exercise for Forms/Designer users

If there are any people on this list from an Oracle Forms and Oracle Designer background who are learning ADF, you may be interested in the hands on exercise we are running on otn.oracle.com/formsdesignerj2ee , our dedicated site for Forms and Designer developers learning ADF and J2EE.
The hands-on takes you through modelling your applications, adding flow, a business model, validation and this week: building the web pages.
    Details on otn.oracle.com/formsdesignerj2ee

    Oracle Product Management

Grant this page is excellent. i have seen it earlier and i follow it up. the best part is the hands-on workshop.
you have to continue this workshop by adding more complex examples for application development it will be very useful.
i am a forms developer. what ever little i have learnt about java app. devlopment using jdev i have learnt from this page.
few request for hands-on from myside
sample population of JTree(a sample application like we develop with forms, select a node in the tree and the right-side datablock gets populated with the corresponding selected node data)
    sample manual population of JTable
Might sound very silly but will be very useful for starters like me.
Your earlier workshops were very detailed one and i expect the rest in the same way. I had only little knowledge of jdev before. but i could very easily work with your hands-on becuase of the detailed explanation and could complete all.
    Thanks.

  • Problem with version 10.1.3.1.0 and Tutorial for Forms/4GL

I startet to test the new version with the demo and
when i testing the first jspx on page 71 of the tutorial, I receive an error:
Unexpected exception caught: oracle.jbo.NameClashException, msg=JBO-25001: Name User of object type Attribute already exists.
i don't have an idea what's the problem. any help is appreciated.

Specifically, the steps in the tutorial from page 2-4 through 2-11
    request that the user:
    (1) Default entity objects for the SRDemo tables
    (2) Change the datatype of ServiceRequest.SvrId to DBSequence
    (3) Rename the associations involving ServiceRequest to have
    more meaningful names.
The combination of the above three "ingredients" run into this bug.
The workaround for the tutorial is to skip step 2. & 3. wherein
the user sets the type of the SvrId attribute to DBSequence, and then
come back to the Entity Editor to mark the SvrId as DBSequence after
having first performed all the steps in the "Refining the Associations
    Between Entities" section.

  • Where to buy the study guide for Oracle Forms Developer 9i or 10g

Hi, I am learning Oracle Forms Developer Build Internet Application. I am comfortable with SQL and PL SQL. I need authenticate Oracle Study Guide for Forms Developer which will help me in learning basics to advance level but I cannot afford the classroom course, it is beyond my pocket capacity. So I would like to know if Oracle sell only the study guides. I inquired at Book Shops in my area but did not get any help.

I just went through Oracle Press and Sybex websites and it seems none of the books available suits my requirement. Not everyone can afford class room training unless it is fully or partially sponsored by their employers. And I don't understand what people learn in just 5 days. All the information you need to learn the products and pass the certification exams is available in the freely available Oracle documentation. Sure, it's nice to have the Oracle University training or exam prep books which is often specifically focused on the topics on the certification exam, rather than having to combine data from a few different manuals. But there the free Oracle documentation is pretty darned complete and you'll likely learn more from working through that documentation than you would from the Oracle University material just because you've got to do the work to put things together.

  • Forms 6i Developers Guide

    Hi AnyOne,
Can you help me by sending the Forms 6i Developer's Guide?? I am trying to get familiar with Hierarchical trees.
    Thanks in Advance.
    -Parmy

    Thanks for your reply Balaji,
Infact I have implemented the Hierarchical Tree-View with most difficulty with Forms 4.5 But I heard that Forms 6 onwards, it provides Hierarchical Tree itself as a item. I need to know more about it. Can you ( or any one ) send the Developer's Guide for Forms 6 or (6i) or any version that supports Hierarchical Tree as an item. Please help me.
    Thanks again,

  • Where's the documentation or user guide?

I am now working through the twelve lessons in Adobe Premiere Elements 11 Classroom in a Book. Several times the book says to refer to Premiere Elements documentation or user guide for a full explanation of a subject. Is there such a thing and where do I find it? There is plenty of clear information in the Help and Tutorials but not the documentation that comes, for example, with a camcorder.

    Tommy,
You will find a lot of that here: http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/premiere-elements_reference.pdf
Also, the Help File, F1, will have good material too, and is active on-line, so there are some comments via Community Help there, as well.
If you are new to PrE, here is a partial list of useful resources: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3953827#3953827
I particularly recommend Steve Grisetti's Basic Training Series on Muvipix.com.

  • Step-by-Step guide for developing a ADF application, does it exist?

Step-by-Step guide for developing a ADF application, does it exist?
    Hi there,
At our company we recently begun working on a project using Oracle ADF with
UIX. We got the Oracle JDeveloper 10g handbook and we did a 5 day Oracle ADF
course. A good way to start the project I think.
One thing that bothers me though, is that I cannot find a simple clean example
how to manipulate a record in the DB, going through all steps of MVC. I tried
this forum, the books we got and google. It usualy explains a small portion
of the steps needed, but never a complete example.
I know people will probably say you can design what you want in various ways
and that's its all up to the developer, this is also the power of ADF that it
    can be very flexible.
However it would be nice to have a step-by-step example how to be able to insert,
edit and delete a record. Showing all the steps that have to be made in the BC4J,
struts and UIX, including creating triggers, seq, autocommitting etc.
I think ADF is pretty complicated, therefore having a step-by-step example guide
(design pattern) would be very handy for a beginner like me.
Do such guides exist, are there developers who created such a guide for themselves?
Would other developers find such a guide useful? I'm curious about everybody's
    opinion.
A good example of what I mean by guide can be found here
How To Build a Simple UIX Search Form, written by Shay Shmeltzer

Have a look at the ADF Workshop - it doesn't use UIX rather it uses JSP but I think it will give you the basics.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe9051jdev/ADFWorkshop/BuildingADFApplicationsWorkshop.htm
Then have a look at the toy-store demo and the new ADF Case manual:

  • ADF UIX Search Form - Is this a bug?

I created a JDev 9.0.5.2 ADF UIX Search form from the component palette. I ran the page without making any changes. I chose the Find button which displayed the search criteria. I selected the delete button and then the create button, which created 2 blank records (possible bug?) in the search criteria table at the top. I selected one of the blank records and entered search criteria. I chose the submit button which changed the data in the search criteria table as it is supposed to do. I selected the other blank record, entered search criteria and submitted it. Again the data in the search criteria table was changed appropriately. I selected the delete button and the wrong record was deleted (bug?).
    Are these bugs?

    Hello,
a similar sort of situation is created if you have a Read-only table on a page which drills down to an edit/create input form page. If you enable a create functionality you need to enable some way for the user to back out of the created record and clean up the newly created row. On the detail page (JobsEdit.do) i created a link to a custom event on the master page action (JobsView.do) like this:
<button text="Cancel" destination="JobsView.do?event=cancelinput"/> In the Data Action class for the JobsView page i have a method defined as follows:
    public void onCancelinput(DataActionContext ctx)
        Row row = ctx.getBindingContainer().getApplicationModule().findViewObject("JobsView1").getCurrentRow();
        row.refresh(row.REFRESH_REMOVE_NEW_ROWS );
}as a workaround, it sounds like you may need put some manual controls in place to tightly control any newly created rows which have/will not been used. I don't know if this will resolve the deleting wrong record problem...

  • Best Practices for BI, ADF and Oracle Forms installations on Weblogic

Hi, I'm researching options on upgrading to Oracle 11g Middleware. My company currently has Oracle Forms 10g running on Oracle Application Server.
We are interested in using Oracle Forms 11g, ADF and Jdeveloper, and Business Intelligence with Oracle's Weblogic 10.3.5.
Is there any whitepapers or documentation on best practices for installing alll of these components together?
For instance, can ADF ( with JSF 2.x ) be installed in the same domain as Oracle Forms 11g but use different managed servers?
Will Business Intelligence need to be in a seperate Oracle Home with it's own weblogic installation? I spend a lot of time trying to get the JSF upgraded to 2.x in the Business Intelligence installation and could not get it to work.
I know it's a pretty broad question but thank you for any direction on this.

Thanx for the reply! I read through the documents and they are very good at explaining how to install the different components individually. I still can't find much on installing them together. I hope it's not just going to be a trial and error thing.
So far I've installed done the following successfully:
    Installed 10.3.5 weblogic
Forms and Reports 11g on top of 10.3.5
I've created an additional managed server for our ADF applications.
My next step is upgrading the JSF to 2.x. I would have to stage patches 12917525 and 12979653. I'm afraid it will break the forms and reports though. Any ideas?
