  • Looking for an Introduction documentation for SOLARIS administration

I'm beginner in SOLARIS environment. Im looking for an overview documentation for SOLARIS administration as like as IBM AIX Redbooks. For example, the "Certification Study Guide" for IBM pSeries is an excellent introduction to AIX environment (485 pages in pdf format). I'm looking for something like that. Do you have an idea?

I found the following book to be more than helpful. If you're willing to spend the dough I can guarantee that it's more than worth it!

  • Documentation for solaris 8 10/01

I downloaded solaris 8 10/01 for sparc and install it on a sparc station 5
however when launching Answer book 2 I get a message indicating that it is not installed.
I downloaded 4 CD: installation, software 1, software 2 and langage.
    the installation works correctly
some one told me that there is a documentation CD.
What to do, from where can I download it

Pay the $75 for the whole Solaris 8/Sparc media kit:
    http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries/get.html
Or just buy the Answer Book CDs (Developer and SysAdmin) for $50:

Either way, you'll have to pay Uncle Scott.

  • Migrating from ECXpert for NT to iPlanet for Solaris

When migrating from ECXpert for NT to iPlanet for Solaris, is their a way to reuse our compiled Mercator maps (.mmc files)? Our ECXpert environment was created in 1998 and we no longer have the source for the map (.mms file) and we are looking are migrating to Solaris. Is their a converstion utility or do they run without recompiling in Solaris?

I don't recall ever hearing that you could run a compiled map for windows (mmc) on another platform... If the windows machines is still going to be around, you could probably setup something so that translate runs on the windows box and then ECX can keep processing...
    Which account is this for???

    Jagdish,
We don't currently support migration from DB2 on the OS/390 platform. If you need a solution now, you might investigate a solution from one of our migration partners like Ispirer: http://www.ispirer.com/products/

  • Documentation for Activity Universe for XIR3.1SP2

Is there Documentation for the Audit and Activity Universe for XIR3.1SP2.  We have migrated from XIR2, but I have yet to track down documentation to best utilize any new capabilities.  I am currently most interested in how to capture SQL Generated from each document by a Universe to easily track down the questions we are submitting to our databases and which reports drive these requests.

Thanks, I was looking under the XIR3.1SP2 documentation listings and the Admin Guide doesn't appear to exist, but it does for XIR3.0.  I have found the Audit Information located there as you have advised.

  • Sun Cluster 3.1 64 bit support  for Solaris 10

    Hi:
I have some questions when migrate SC 3.1 from solaris 9 to solaris 10.
    1) Does Clutster 3.1 for solaris 10 support 64 bit?
I have develop own resource type which is compiled with 64 bit mode, while cluster admin program is 32 bit based. E.g. /usr/cluster/bin/scrgadm
Will that cause any problem? For instance: 32 bit lib and 64 bit lib have the same name libscha.so will be loaded by 32 bit scrgadm and 64 bit my own developped resource type program.
    2) Can I download a Cluster 3.1 install-pkg for solaris 10, 64 bit supported., which means all admin files like scrgadm are 64 bit based.
Or only ONE Cluster 3.1 version for solaris 10 is deliveried by SUN?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    Comments on your 2 questions:
    1) Yes. IIRC, SC31 for S10 actually supports ONLY 64 bit. To be clear, this means
Solaris has to be booted in 64 bit mode, but 32 bit applications would run just
    fine.
As for your RT being 64 bit, and scrgadm being 32 bit, no problem.
    2) See (1). You are good.
    Go for it.

  • 64-bit WLS 11G for Solaris?

I can not locate the 64-bit version of WLS 11G for Solaris. When I go to the download page all I see are 32-bit versions (at least they look like 32-bit version as denoted by the filenames such as wls1031_solaris32.bin).
I have attempted to go through the e-delivery site but do not want to download a 21 part 11Gig file if it is not the correct one.
I would appreciate any help at all.

I am pretty confident that you need the 64 bit JVM for your platform, then you need to use the generic installer, this is based on how it has been done in prior releases.
So you can find the available JVM's for your platform here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/oracle%20fusion%20middleware%2011gr1%20(11%201%201%201%200)%20certification%20matrix.xls
In this case that would be Sun JVM 1.6.0_11+
    OR
    JRockit 6 Update 5 R27.6.2+
Then you should be able to run the generic installer here with that downloaded supported JDK:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/wls_main.html
I was not able to find anything specific on the documentation pages that described this process in detail, but you can always open a support case to get some assistance. I will check with the documentation team to see if that is going to be documented or already is.
If you look at the 10gR3 releases, it shows how the generic installer is used, for example:

and one more thing i am not getting miragation menu name in menu items.
    please help me.
    thanks and regards

    Hi,
To connect to non-Oracle databases from SQL*Developer youneed to download the relevant JDBC driver.
This is detailed in the documentation in the User Guide -
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35137_01/appdev.32/e35117.pdf
    in the section -
    Database: Third Party JDBC Drivers
The Third Party JDBC Drivers pane specifies drivers to be used for connections to third-party (non-Oracle) databases, such as IBM DB2, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or Sybase Adaptive Server. (You do not need to add a driver for connections to Microsoft Access databases.) To add a driver, click Add Entry and select the path for the driver:
■For IBM DB2: the db2jcc.jar and db2jcc_license_cu.jar files, which are available from IBM
■For MySQL: a file with a name similar to mysql-connector-java-5.0.4-bin.jar, in a directory under the one into which you unzipped the download for the MySQL driver
■For Microsoft SQL Server or Sybase Adaptive Server: jtds-1.2.jar, which is included in the jtds-1.2-dist.zip download
■For Teradata: tdgssconfig.jar and terajdbc4.jar, which are included (along with a readme.txt file) in the TeraJDBC__indep_indep.12.00.00.110.zip or TeraJDBC__indep_indep.12.00.00.110.tar download
To find a specific third-party JDBC driver, see the appropriate website (for example, http://www.mysql.com for the MySQL Connector/J JDBC driver for MySQL, http://jtds.sourceforge.net/ for the jTDS driver for Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase Adaptive Server, or search at http://www.teradata.com/ for the JDBC driver for Teradata). For MySQL, use the MySQL 5.0 driver, not 5.1 or later, with SQL Developer release 1.5.
You must specify a third-party JDBC driver or install a driver using the Check for Updates feature before you can create a database connection to a third-party database of that associated type. (See the tabs for creating connections to third-party databases in the Create/Edit/Select Database Connection dialog box.)

    Mike

  • Kernel patch update for solaris 10 x86

I have Solaris 10 06/06 installed on x86 machine which is using svm and clustered with another node. The kernel revision is 118855-19 from the uname -a output. I am looking for the kernel patch updation and I heard 118855-36 is the latest one. Shall I go ahead with this patch and what r the dependency patches for this.
If anyone done this please suggest and guide me..

For Solaris 10 x86 the latest offered with smpatch is 125101-07 and yes it may be recommended to patch. Then again you said clustered with sun cluster? You may want to check the documentation and if your machines aren't facing the internet you may wait for 7/07 to hit the street and do an upgrade.

  • HBA support for solaris 10

    Hi All
I need to know which HBA card will support solaris 10.we have sunfire 1280 server, brocade silkworm 12000 and hitachi 9980
    Regards
    RPS

I would beg to differ on this response. This is not a service call and the storage vendor is not responsible for making decisions on what the customer is allowed or not allowed to use.
EG, I have a Sun StorEdge 9990 (actually a HDS USP 1100 and not the 9990 Lightning series which is on the web site) and I made the call to put the Fibre Channel HBA's of my choice into my systems and I also chose the Cisco 9509 switches. Both HDS and Cisco put out documentation regarding compatibility of the HBA's.
So, I would suggest RPS check out the Brocade website or sales people and ask them if they recommend anything.
    http://www.brocade.com/products/pdf/Fabric_Aware_Compatibility_Matrix-060521.pdf
states that the option X6768A is supported for Solaris 10.
Sun 9980 will work on most of the HBA's available in the system handbook.
The could be either the rebadged Qlobic or JNI HBA's. You could even use Emulux if you are that way inclined.
My systems are full of dual channel HBA's such as SG-XPCI2FC-QF2.
You should also be aware that the 1280 has only one 66 MHz PCI slot. You can upgrade the I/O boat to all 66 MHz slots if you are after good throughput. The upgrade will also give the opportunity to use the 4 Gb HBA if you can find a system to use them on.

  • Where can I download JRockit 6.0 (R27.6.0-50) JDK (64-bit) (for solaris)

    Where can I download JRockit 6.0 (R27.6.0-50) JDK (64-bit) (for solaris) ?
This page indicates 27.6.5 - but that's not what all the products are certified with.

Thanks Henrik. My question is for the same customer that Alex K. was asking about.
The customer has pointed out that 6.5 != 6.0 , so according to the wording in the documentation, the "all later releases of 6.0" would not apply to 6.5 releases. So the customer would need a precise statement from JRockit product management stating that 6.5 releases are indeed to be included wherever there is a reference to "all later releases of 6.0".
I did spend some time yesterday in MetaLink. Search Knowledge base -> Oracle JRockit for download gives 38 hits. I did find older versions of WebLogic Server in 763603.1, but nothing for JRockit. If there is another DocId with the JRockit downloads, what is it? Will I find JRockit 64 bit for Solaris 27.6.0 bundled in the WebLogic Server downloads? Guessing from the size of the downloads for Solaris 64bit (they are hundreds of MB smaller than other downloads) - it seems possible that the JVM is not included (I do not have a Solaris machine to install and check). Previously I had assumed the JVM was included, but then the customer wouldn't be asking where they can download from (unless they never bother to look what they installed).

  • Microsoft Access plug-in for oracle migration workbench

I would like to migrate from Microsoft Access to oracle 10g,but Microsoft Access plug-in had not found on web site oracle.com.
Where can obtain the Microsoft Access plug-in?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Oracle SQL Developer 1.2 incorporates the Migration Workbench, providing users with the ability to migrate database objects and data from MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Access to Oracle. Oracle SQL Developer release 1.2.1 can be downloaded from OTN - http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration//workbench/index_sqldev_omwb.html.
I would recommend that you review the accompanying documentation - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10405_01/doc/nav/portal_booklist.htm - to ensure that you understand how to use the tool for the migration of your MS Access MDB file.

    Hi,
Not certain what your external system is, but it may be worthwhile to go through the QM-IDI documentation to see if that meets your requirements
