Documentation on Region code

Hi all,
Where can I get some documentation on the Geographic Regions?
- What is the standard implementation? Are they already configured as a default when installing a new system?
- How are they maintained (for example if a new region is created)?
Regards,
Julien

Dwight,
Now I get the idea you are looking for change documents and usage history for SAP queries.
If so, I suggest you close this thread and start a new one with the following question:
"How to determine the change history and usage of SAP queries"
If that still does not give you the required info try the ABAP forum.
(Do try one forum at a time, no crossposting pls)

  • Switching the DVD drive region code - Is there a workaround?

Hi - would appreciate a confirmation or helpful hints how to circumvent the regional settings.
I understand from the Apple doc, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60183, that the regional coding is set in the firmware of the drive and not linked to the player (as I had apparently incorrectly surmised). If this is the case, then installing an additional player such as the VLC media player for Mac OS X (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html) to use for say Region 1 discs, and maintaining Apple's DVD Player set for Region 2 discs would not prevent the drive from freezing the 5th time a different region coded disc is slid into the drive.
    Right?
If so, the only work around would be to install an external DVD drive to set to an alternative region, right? Or does somebody know a cute way to disable the firmware coding and set the drive to multiple regions. This must be possible because DVD players are available commercially which have been set to region code 0.
I have 2 changes left ... before the big freeze. Thanks

It has been reported that VLC overrides the 5 region code option. You will need to read their documention on their website. Otherwise................
You can change the computers region "only 5 times". Then it's locked in the 5th version/region (until you erase your HD & start all over.).

  • HT2397 Is region code is recorded in the DVD drive? So, if I have two Apple USB SuperDrive, I can have two separate region code?

If the region code is recorded in the DVD drive, then I can purchase two Apple USB SuperDrive to play different region DVD ?

  • How to delete the region code for country in T005U

    Hello,
The region code for XX country are changed, So I have deleted all entries for that country in transaction code "OVK2" and updated the new region code which should be updated in Table T005S and T005U.
But in table T005U there are few region code for language other then EN. Now I need to delete the entries T005U for other language.
Now region code in OVK2 = Table T005S, but not equal to T005U
How language can be selected to delete the region code (TABLE T005U), please advise.
    Thanks in advance.
    Praveen

    Hi Praveen,
In order to delete the entries from the language table T005U, you will have to maintain in T005S.
It means that, suppose in table T005U, you have a region appearing in two languages danish and german and the corresponding entry does not exist in T005S, then follow the steps below.
    1. Maintain Region XX in EN in T005S.
    2. Log on in language Danish, and in table T005U, only delete the text and log off.
    3. Log on in Language German, and in table T005U, delete the text only and log off.
    4. Now your T005U table is clear, log on in language EN and delete from table T005S.
    5. Check both tables T005S and T005U for the region XX. they both should be empty.

  • My DVD Player hangs when trying to change the regional code the first time

    Hello,
I am new to this forum and I couldn't find one for the DVD Player specific so I chose this one. Please direct me to a different one if my eyes were misleading me.
I have a new Macbook. Just over three month now and I attempted to watch a movie with the DVD Player last night the first time. When inserting the DVD, the DVD player comes up with a Screen asking me to change the Regional Code from 6 to 1. I don't understand this in the first place since I purchased my Mac within the US. But anyway, When I unlock it with my password and then click the "Set Regional Code" Button (Regional Code preset to one at this time), it turns blue and then the rainbow wheel for being busy shows up. Unfortunately it never leaves and going to the activity monitor it says (Not responding). That causes bad Windows Memories .
Tried multiple ways, let it run for 10 hours and it never returns to the world. Very frustrating, since this is the first time I tried to use this feature.
Is there any advice on how to set this to Regional Code 1. I only have to set it once, but I think there must be an option.
And yes, I know of VLC, but I still would prefer to use this regular DVD player. I think this should work somehow.
Computer out of the box, nothing other then iWorks and MS Office 2008 installed.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks a lot

    Bernd

Does the account you are using have admin rights? I found this :
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2397
+In Mac OS X 10.3 Panther and later, users with administrative privileges aren't prompted to change the region the very first time a DVD-Video disc of a single region is inserted. Instead, the region of the DVD drive is automatically set to the region of the DVD disc that was inserted. Accounts that don't have administrative privileges must authenticate with an administrator account name and password, because changing the drive's region code requires administrative privileges.+
Sounds like it might be worth a try from an admin account first.

  • Any way i can change the region code after the fifth time?

I wasn't aware about the region code being lock after the fifth time.
Is there any way I can change the region code instantly?

No, the drive is permanently locked to the last code you used. If it's not on the one you would prefer, the only thing you can do it replace the drive.
Almost all drives you can get are region free. I couldn't tell you why Apple continues to use drives that require selecting a region.

  • DVD Player Hasn't set the REGION code

I just got a new MacBookPro (a replacement for one that had failed). Well, I restored all my data and am working fine... BUT...
I think all my settings think that I've already set the Region Code of the DVD drive. But, using a tool, I was able to verify that the region code has NOT been set.
How can I force DVD Player to set the region code of the DVD Drive? Right now, I can't play anything.
    Thanks!

    Hi Jack and welcome!
Until I read the last sentence my answer would have been: insert a commercial DVD intended for your region code (unhelpfully you don't say where you are!), i.e. NTSC for the US or PAL for Europe, and it will ask you set the region code for that DVD.
Remember: you can only ever do this five times, so best not to play DVDs from other regions.
But then you spoilt it all by saying "Right now, I can't play anything"!
What did you try to play?
    Did you repair permissions?

  • DVD Region Code

    Problem:
Most of my DVDs have the Hong Kong region code (whatever it is) and my macbook will not play those dvds only the north american region coded ones. Is there some kind of codec to let me play these other DVDs which make up 95% of my DVD collection?
    Thanks

    Hi Alex
I'm afraid the answer is most likely to be no. But this depends on which model of DVD drive you have. If you have a Matshita drive then you probably haven't got a chance. Other drives may play other region DVDs using VLC media player . The only other option is to flash the firmware in your DVD drive, which I understand is at least potentially illegal. Googling the web will return information on this, and make sure you are aware of the risks of any action you might want to take.

  • Universal Region Code

I had a question posed of me today:
"Do you know if the DVD format is universal and is compatible with overseas DVD
systems? I have purchased USA DVDs before only to find they don't work here
    in South Africa."
I think that there are two issues at work here, the first is how I author the DVD's - Unversal Region Code, the second is PAL vs NTSC.
Can anyone show me how to control the Universal Region Codes?
    Thanks

Thanks for the link.  Below is an excerpt from the tutorial you sent me.  Just to be super clear, under build, regions codes, the default is "all regions" (per this article).  I tried to click "custom" and see if I could uncheck all of the countries.  This is impossible, Encore forces you to choose at least one country.  So, am I correct to assume that I authored my DVD correctly by going with the default "all regions" checked?
    Thanks,
    Lisa
"To control the countries in which your DVD will play, use region coding. Each region code corresponds to a particular country or geographical region. Often, only DVD players from a specific region can recognize the code for that region. DVDs coded for any other region will not play.
You can allow all regions to play your DVD, or only a select number of them. Region coding only works consistently on replicated DVDs. Some DVD players may read region coding correctly on projects written directly to DVD‑R, while others will not. (See Replicating discs.)
Note: The All Regions setting is used for Blu‑ray discs and Region Code options are not available for Flash output.
Choose Window > Build, select DVD from the Format menu, and scroll down to the Region Codes section of the DVD Settings.
All Regions is selected by default. Select Custom to deselect any number of region codes. When you close the Build panel and choose File > Save, your settings are saved with the project. The following table lists the available region codes."

  • How can I over-ride the regional code?

I buy DVD from different countries.
In my Microsoft I could over-ride the regional code.
Question: What can I do with my Probook to play DVDs from variious regional codes?
Is there a software avaliable or what else can I do?
    Volker

"Is there a software avaliable or what else can I do?"
There is no method by which an MBP can have the regional code reset.  There are external players that do not utilize the regional coding, and allow all optical media to be used.  Google is your friend.

  • Region code change on DVD Player ...

    hI
please help ,I have changed the drive region code 5 more times,so now it doesnt plays any dvds, how can i reset it,or what i can do?
    thanks

This is right from the Terms of Use: Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
DVD region coding is a form of DRM, and as such, we can't discuss "working around" it here.
Again I say: Google is your friend. A very good friend.

  • Exporting different regions codes from imovie

Does imovie allow you to export video and burn to DVD with different region codes. I live in Canada and would like to make a copy of my movie for someone living in Europe.

Being from Germany and thus often confronted with the PAL/NTSC issue:
Over the last at least 10 years the majority of locally sold DVD-Players and TV-Systems are multisystem. So the risk of someone not being able to play back an NTSC-DVD is there, but chances are a lot higher that it works.
To my knowledge, the majority of DVD-Players sold here even allow for playback of an NTSC-DVD to a PAL-only TV-set.
I personally think it is fairly safe at this time, only to worry about the system issue (not saying it is not there at all) once you get feedback, that someone is in fact not able to playback NTSC-material.

  • IDVD and region code???

I started a project in iDVD and created/burnt a DVD. I live in Germany and sent this DVD to a friend of mine who lives in USA. Half a year ago I already sent her a DVD which I had created in iDVD - she could watch the DVD without any problem (no region code question appeared). But with my last DVD this question suddenly appeard !!!!!!!! What the ....?
    Questions:
1.) Does anybody else have this problem?
2.) Dows anybody know what to do so there is no question for a regional code for a DVD which was created in iDVD??
    Thanks for your help.

    fenderkicker

Hi Fenderkicker and welcome to the forums!
DVDs made with iDVD are so-called 'Region 0" (no specific region) and will play anywhere without upsetting region settings.
In the USA they use NTSC (29.75 fps) whilst in Europe we use PAL (25 fps). Most freestanding DVD players sold in Europe will happily play back both, but this is not the case in the US where few DVD players are set for PAL playback.
Could this be the issue? That your first DVD was in NTSC and the second in PAL?
