  • Creating online help based on external documentation

    Hi there
I am in the process of writing a "handbook" for one application I have built. I will write it using MS Word, and it will have detailed information on how to use the app, including screenshots, arrows and other drawing objects.
I would like to add some online help to the app also, but instead of re-entering the same information manually in Apex (that would be limited to text only) I would like to re-use the document I will create in Word. Has anyone implemented anything like this?
One solution for this that I am considering is to break down the handbook file into a number of smaller files, one for each page, and upload them into Oracle as BLOBs (in a table with app_alias and page_id as PK). Then the help page would download and display these files (in some way, not sure how yet).
Ideally, the whole document should be uploaded as a BLOB and somehow the program should be able to extract only the bit that is relevant to the current page and display it.
    Any comments/suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Luis

    Hi
I don't think it is possible to know that (except if you ask the Apex dev team directly I suppose).
The solution I used was to create a Word document with the application help and export it as HTML. Then copied the HTML to a directory in the server and created a link in the app to open that HTML in a popup window.
    I hope this helps.

  • FIND -error in HTMLDB ONLINE HELP

    Hi,
When i click on "Help" link in HTMLDB development environment i am able to see the online help page. the "Contents" and "Index" hyperlink are working but when i click on "Find" i get the following error:
    Error creating online help index.
ORA-29855: error occurred in the execution of ODCIINDEXCREATE routine ORA-20000: Oracle Text error: DRG-10700: preference does not exist: CTXSYS.DEFAULT_LEXER
But Oracle Text and Oracle XML are properly installed in the database and they are valid.
    Can someone help please,
    Thanks,
    Philip.

    Hi,
there should be a problem in your context-install.
If Oracle TEXT is installed, perhaps only the default language install is missing:
    run as ctxsys
    @drdefXX for us: @drdefus for german:@drdefd
in the documentation for install htmldb2.0 I assume is an error:
    c:\> sqlplus sys/SYS_password as sysdba
    SQL> @c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\ctx\admin\defaults\drdefus.sql
you have to run your @drdefXX as CTXSYS not as "SYS AS SYSDBA"

I have made a forum-entry at metalink too, you will find both if searching in metalink for: catctx.

  • Installing jdeveloper online help documents(html) locally ?

I would like to view the jdeveloper help documents outside jdeveloper
how can I install the Jdeveloper online help(http://otn.oracle.com:8877/jdeveloper/help/), locally on my computer?
    cheers
    Russel

    Hi Russel,
The jar files zip that you have downloaded is specifically for use with Oracle Help for Java (OHJ) - running in JDeveloper.
Unfortunately we are not able to provide the equivalent of the HTML on-line version available on OTN for your local machine.
You could try to use the zip file locally but it would not provide a table of contents and many of the links would not work.
Do you hava a specific requirement for a local HTML version of the help? I can pass this on to the Documentation team as an enhancement request.
In the meantime, your choices are to use OHJ within JDeveloper or to download the PDF version.
    Rgds

  • Online Help for WD ABAP application

We develop a WD ABAP application ("as a product") and want to provide an online help. In our last version we used an HTML online help (about 250 static HTML pages)
    1) I see the option to create such an help in the Knowledge Warehouse. Since we develop a product this help there would not be of any use for customers who do not have the KW. Or am I wrong here?
    2) Since the number of HTML pages (250+ html files, lots of images and directories) is significant I doubt I want to import them all to a WD application's MIME repository.
Q: Is there any better option than 2), or is 1) an option at all.

    Hi Frank,
You could also store the online documentation on any kind of web server and link to it from the web dynpro application. Btw.: The WebAS supports WebDAV, which allows you to upload large quantities of files in a convinient way. Moreover, since the type of mime objects is online documentation, you might consider adding it to the public part of the mime repository. Storing it inside of a Web Dynpro component would require users to be authenticated in order to read it.
    Best regards,
    Thomas

  • Customizing Online Help and versioning

    Hello all!
The Online Help my team creates supports a software application that is almost 100% customizable by our clients. Therefore, different clients may need documentation/help for their customized modules, which would not be delivered with base Online Help.
That being said, I'm wondering how versioning would work. If a customer wants to add on to our base Online Help and we delivered to our customers our base files, how could we control versioning? For example, if we delivered Online Help files for the 7.4.0 release of our software and customers purchase their own RoboHelp license to add their own content, what would happen to their new content when we deliver the Online Help files for the next release of our software? Everything would be overwritten, correct?
The only way I can think to do this is to recommend to our customers who want to add on to our base Online Help that they store their customized files outside of the base Online Help folder structure and manually reimport the files when we deliver new help files. Which seems like a lot of work.
Any idea would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!

  • Forms Online help disappeared

Previously (at least until last week) the Forms Online Help was available here:
    http://www.oracle.com/webapps/online-help/forms/10g/state?navSetId=_&navId=0
but this link results in a 404.
It would be the same as the one shipped with Forms Builder, but it's a little bit hard to post links to my local online help when I want to suggest to use a documented builtin...
Could someone please restore the documentation or at least update the announcement here with the URL where the documentation is located now?
    cheers

It might have to do with SSL/SSO implementation they put into production recently. Since the forums are on SSL and the new fancy login screen got added the whole forum seems to behave quite unstable. I get the "We are sorry blah blah blah" screen almost every second time I click on a link here in the forums. Hopefully they didn't vaporize the docs permanently as it was a good resource to point to....
    cheers

  • Acrobat XI Online Help

We are getting an "Online Help cannot be displayed." message when trying to access any of the Adobe Acrobat & Distiller menu options.  Through testing on our system we've narrowed down that this is happening because Adobe Acrobat XI is using an anonymous login to get to the Internet.  Is there anyway that we can configure this to use local system credentials instead of "anonymous"?

Not really.  It appears to be a limitation for Acrobat and Reader Help.  It's documented in a couple of places.

    SQL*PLUS Help
    =============
    1. help 디렉토리로 이동한다.
    % cd $ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/admin/help
    2. SYSTEM user 로 SQL*Plus 에 Login 한다.
    % sqlplus system/<password>
    3. 해당 디렉토리의 "helptbl.sql" script 를 수행한다.
    SQL> @helptbl
해당 스크립트는 Help 라는 테이블을 생성하고 Public 으로 지정한다.
    4. SQL*Loader 로 필요한 Record 를 Help 테이블에 로딩한다..
    % sqlldr system/manager control=plushelp.ctl
    % sqlldr system/manager control=sqlhelp.ctl
    % sqlldr system/manager control=plshelp.ctl
    5. SYSTEM user 로 SQL*Plus 에 Login 한다.
    "helpindx.sql" script 를 수행한다.
    SQL> @helpindx
    % cd $ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/admin/help
    % sqlplus system/<password>
    SQLPLUS>helpbld.sql
    SQLPLUS>helpus.sql

I personally don't like SQL Developer or TOAD, though perhaps I'm in a minority. I agree completely. Toad does a lot of things but many of are ill thought out, the most obvious is the default feature of displaying a result time after fetching the first screen of rows. This alone has led to hundreds of posting along the lines of, I have this query that returns 12 billion rows. In a stored procedure it takes days, but it completes in 12 milliseconds in TOAD?
The last I looked SQL Developer had that typical Java sluggishness on a Windows box, and I am still not interested in whether that is a Windows or Java problem. I just know that if I have to use Windows I tend to choose applications that are not written in Java if possible.
It also was unable to connect using OS authenticated accounts which effectively ruled it out as anything other than a toy as our development environment mandates it. I believe there may be a workaround, but there are always hints of waving a rubber chicken at it and frankly why bother at this stage.
PL/SQL Developer is by far the best.

  • Creating an online help screen?

I am creating documentation for my company, and the ideal way to present it would be through an online help screen.  When users are connected to the website, they would click a link, and a help screen would pop up.
I can make the various pages in Dreamweaver CS5, no problem there.  There will be at least 40 or 50 pages when I'm done.
But I need to do more than simply present a bunch of pages.  The help screen needs a table of contents.  It needs to be searchable (so users can insert a word, and be taken to any pages that contain that word).  And it would be great if it could include an index and/or a glossary.
HTML Help Workshop from Microsoft would have been the perfect program to create a compiled .CFM file.   I made a test file with it, and it looks great, but apparently, it's no longer possible to access this kind of file over the web, at least not in Windows.
So, I'm wondering if it would be possible to create this in Dreamweaver.  Are there any tutorials that address this specific application?  Does anyone know of any templates or examples that I could see?
If at all possible, I'd like to do it entirely in Dreamweaver, rather than purchasing a license for Robohelp.

It is possible as long as your server runs ColdFusion, and that can happen in either Windows or *nix.

  • How can I export oracle e-business suite online help?

    hi,dear expert
how can I export oracle e-business suite online help?
I want to view it when I works offline, please help me ,thank you!!
    null

I think Oracle Apps Help system is built in to Apps installation and you can’t easy enough export it. I have got a few things in mind:
    1. You can install Apps on your laptop and by that way make ONLINE Help available offline ;) Online help describes Forms, fields, navigation and really ONLINE things. To me it sounds a bit illogical to have ONLINE help without access to the application.
    2. The Apps Doc Set is available on the OTN. You can easy download it for OFFLINE reading. And this documentation is intended for offline reading.
    3. Help files for each module located in $APPL_TOP/*/11.5.0/help/US directories. You can try to copy a directory for a module you are interested in on you PC and try to read it offline.

  • Local/online help

I have sql server 2012 dev edition on my Windows 8.1 workstation.
While in SSMS I clicked F1 and was asked if I wanted to use online or local help. I selected local and was asked to point to where the doco resided locally. At this point I remembered that BOL is not installed at set-up and has to be browsed online or downloaded.
I went to help manager settings so I could switch from local to online but the dialogue that is shown in all the online articles is not what I see. All I get is the option to browse for local help.
So, I went online and downloaded SQLServer2012Documentation_December2012_EN.exe and unzipped it to my temp directory. When I go to my temp directory I do not see any obvious way to install. I see some html files, lots of cab files and an .msha file that
Windows 8.1 has no clue how to handle.
    So at this point:
I have no way to select online help under the settings (dialogue is not shown)
I cannot install the downloaded exe as I see no way to do so.
I have tried pointing the "where is local help" dialogue under help manager to the file unzipped into temp but that doesn't recognize any valid help files.
    Where from here?

    Hello,
If you downloaded the help from the below link
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=347
    Please follow these instructions:
    1. Click the Download button on this page to start the download.
     2. Click Save to save the download to a USB drive or other portable media that
can be carried into the firewalled environment.
     3. Double-click the self-extracting EXE to unpack the contents.
     4. Specify a location of your choice to extract the contents to. For example,
a network share that is accessible to your destination server.
     5. Launch Help Library Manager by going to Start, All Programs, SQL Server 2012,
Help & Community, and clicking Manage Help Settings or by launching SQL Server Management Studio, clicking the Help menu, and then selecting Manage Help Settings.
     6. In Help Library Manager, click Choose online or local help.
     7. Select I want to use local help and click OK.
     8. Click Install content from disk and browse to the directory where you unpacked
    the downloaded EXE.
     9. Select the HelpContentSetup.msha file and click Open.
     10. Click Next.
     11. Click Add next to the documentation you want to install.
     12. Click Update.
     13. Exit Help Library Manager.
    Hope this helps.
