Documents disappeared June 30 but found in time machine on June 29. Where did they go??

Today realized that documents were missing in my documents folder. Seems like files were pdf's and numbers although unsure if there were more? When I go to time machine I can see them on June 29, 2012 but since that time they disappear. The search function does not find them. Any ideas?

Spotlight search is pretty useless when it comes down to it, I've disabled it on all my Macs but one, & there only so I might help with all it's failings.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If 10.7 or more, reboot holding CMD+r down to boot from the Restore Partition, use Disk Utility there.

The person that found them has deleted them on the phone so you iCal is gone is what I can figure.

Time Machine went missing. Where did it go?

After inadvertently deleting a bunch of photographs I tried to do a backup from Time Machine.
I clicked on the time machine icon on the desktop, (External Seagate HD), and the finder window opened.
I could see all the backups today, but never having used it before I didn't know what to do next. Anyway, in the left hand pane I saw an arrow to the right of the "Time Machine" legend. I clicked it and immediately the Time Machine icon disappeared from the desktop and from the list of available drives.
It was missing in the system profiler, couldn't be found by clicking the Time Machine icon in the dock. It was nowhere. I rebooted the Mac, still nothing. After tearing my hair out and swearing a lot, I moved the USB cable to another port, then turned the Seagate off and back on.
I've now got it back again. Success.
Ihave connected my iPhone to the original USB port and it appears to work ok.
My question(s)
What was the arrow and what did it do?
Why couldn't I find the Seagate even though it was still connected to the Mac?
Why did that port shut down and why does it now work?
Oh, please make any answers simple and easy to follow, try not to bog me down with technical phrases and acronyms.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You unmounted the external drive. The unmount is used when you want to disconnect the external drive safely, so it's normal that you don't see the external drive as connected.
To mount the external drive again, disconnect and connect the external drive again, or use Disk Utility to mount your Time Machine partition again. Anyway, there's nothing to worry because it's the normal behaviour

When I updated to the new version for the IPhone and selected ICloud for backup location, my Notes have disappeared and you are no longer on my Desktop either. Where did they go?

Did you check to see if you have another page of apps. There is a new Facetime app that can cause it to bump the pages.

Time Capsule disk cannot be mounted nor found by Time Machine

Suddenly Time Machine can't find my Time Capsule disk to back up to.
I've tried setting up my Time Capsule in various ways, even resetting to default factory settings.
My network seems to work fine and Time Capsule is shining brightly green, but clicking on Time Machine Preferences, it asks me to Choose Backup Disk. Clicking on that I just get an empty list. No disks. My only choice is to Set Up Time Capsule, which I've now done a couple of times without change. The Apple Support suggest a change to a shorter name... Needless to say, this is not the problem. Tried that too.
When I click on Manual Setup and check the Disks tab, there are no disks available there either.
Patience running on empty... Anyone found a solution to this or is my only option to shut off this expensive machine forever (seeing as it doesn't back up and that it's started to hum annoyingly loudly)?

My last resort was to connect my laptop and the time capsule with an usb cable.
The bad thing is that nothing happened. So for me this means heading back again to apple care so they tell me whats wrong with it (i just received it today from apple care because it stopped turning on 2 weeks ago and they didn't knew what was wrong with it).

If you forgot your encryption password:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

Do a backup before doing anything.
If you want to make a clean install of Mountain Lion, boot into the Recovery Volume (command - R) on a restart, use Disk Utility to Verify/Repair the disk and run Repair Permissions. Then erase the hard drive using Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format using the Options button. Reinstall Yosemite. Restart normally and test. Use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to import what you want.

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

What is the error message you get? If it's telling you to upgrade Numbers but you already have updated, then that means you probably are trying to open the document with the old version, which is still on your Mac, in a sub folder within Applications named iWork '09. Open the document with the Numbers that is in your Applications folder (not the one in a subfolder). It's easy to confuse the two, because the icons are similar.
If you're getting some other error message, could you post specifics?

If you backup your iPad, then the documents should be in your backup. If you have important documents in any app, you should backup very frequently in the event that something happens so that you can restore them from the backup.
If you use iOS file sharing with iTunes, then the documents might be in your iTunes library.
If you use iCloud with Pages, check in iCloud,com and see if they appear in there. I don't think it is likely that they will be there, if they disappeared from the iPad, but it is worth a try anyway.
In the event that this is some software glitch, try closing the Pages app, reboot the iPad and then launch Pages again.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the Pages icon. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If you don't backup, don't use iOS file sharing or don't use iCloud, then most likely your files are gone and you will not be able to retrieve them.

IPhoto 6 "found" old photos - where did they come from?

When I opened iPhoto 6 for the first time, it updated my iPhoto library just fine. In the process a dialog opened saying it found 134 photos from somewhere, and asked if I wanted to import them. When I said YES, it created a new album and imported those 134 photos into it.
The photos ended up being old photos (2-4 years old) that I thought I had deleted a long time ago, many of my ex-wife during holidays and a vacation 3 years ago! Where did they come from? Needless to say, my new fiancee wondered why I had old photos of the ex! I thiought they were gone.
I used Spotlight to search for "IMG_0...) and found many old photos I had deleted! I do not have an old iPhoto libraray on my PowerBook G4, but the photos were still there in folders, deep inside iPhotos filing system. I deleted all the ones I needed to, all by hand within the Finder.
What happened?

I had well over 2,000 photos recovered... Also ranging from 5 years old to this past month.
There was no clear answer but the photos were recovered in large chunks (300 from December, 400 from March, 600 from January, etc...)..
The entire time I has iPhoto 5, it never worked properly (always crashed) so a lot of these photos clearly were photos not properly saved in iPhoto 5.
However, I don't see them in my main library. How do I move them from recovered to the Library?

I had a Christmas playlist that worked until this year. All songs appear on the playlist w/exclamation point. All say "can't be found." They have disappeared from my music/media files. What happened? Where did they go? How can I get them back?

There's not much to go on since we don't know what you've done to your computer over the past year, etc.
Have you used Spotlight to search the hard drive for the files? Did you perhaps drag them to the trash or a different directory sometime over the past 12 months?
If they are iTunes purchases you can download them a second time. If they are from a CD you can rip them again. If you have an old computer backup you can restore them from that.

The application auto-saves your input when you close the document. If you left the document, as you state, the notes/comments should have been saved and should have been visible the next time you opened the document with the Mobile Reader (note that if you are opening the document with another app such as Apple's built in PDF Viewer, things like notes/comments may not be visible). Also note that if you are doing an Open In... from another app (like Dropbox), the version of the document in Dropbox does not update; only the version of the document in the Mobile Reader is updated.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Backing up does not transfer your photos to your computer, if you don't want to enable photo stream, you will need to transfer your photos when your device is connected to your computer using iTunes.
