Documents in Drop Box and iPad
Is there a way to edit and save documents in Drop Box using iPad?
From what I recall, OS X requires that it have at least Full Read permissions.
I'd have to test, though, but I seem to recall this discussion here before.

I recently started using an iPad. I up loaded several apps. Evernote, cloudon, Goodreader, Drop Box and lots of others.
It crashes when I down load pictures and then try to use them. Converting a jpg to a pdf usually triggers a crash.
Is there a "hitch" in my "giddy up?"

You crashlog shows, that iPhoto crashes, when trying to draw the "Print" theme background. There could be a problem wit the installed themes. Can you convert any jpegs to pdf, not only the jpegs downloaded from your iPad?

To collaborate on a project with remote users via Dropbox you have to share a folder inside of the local Dropbox folder. So on OSX it works like this:
Make a folder inside of your local Dropbox folder—the default Dropbox folder is at the top level of your user folder.
Make sure the Dropbox application is running.

Is there a way to connect multiple services such as Google Drive, Drop Box, and Cloud into one program that allows to you manage all three at once? I am trying to look for a program that can connect all three together into one. Is there such a thing?
No such program exists that I've seen, and given the proprietary nature of each service, particularly iCloud, I very much doubt such a program would be possible.

How Best to Demo "Drop Box" and "Shared" Group Tabs?
In presenting iTunes U to faculty in a "live" forum, I log in as a user with Edit privileges (obviously) so that I can show how changing Student access from the default Download to either "Drop Box" or "Shared" effects this feature. However, I cannot show how a person with these permissions would then upload content without logging out and then back in as a student. I tried setting Authenticated, Instructor, etc. to Drop Box but that doesn't work. I see nothing in the UI that signals what my role is. That would help I think. Also, where is the current User Guide? The Admin Guide doesn't really cover this and the user guide that I do gave is dated 2006!

One of the misconceptions about iTunes U, one that can be really hard to shake, is the notion that it operates like terminal session…that when you log into iTunes U, you do so as a "user" with some fixed access to the system. Even if you accept the idea that iTunes U can anonymize access, it's often very easy to think of yourself as having a single "role" within any iTunes U session. For example, you might login using the "administrator" role or an "instructor" role. I confess that I often talk about iTunes U this way…just for convenience.
But when thinking about iTunes U, and the access that any particular user has, it's important to think not of a single role, but rather, in what specific context a person possesses any particular role. For example, in the very same iTunes U session, a person might adopt a "student" role on some iTunes U pages and an "instructor" role on others. What role a person has in an iTunes U session depends very much upon the iTunes U page a person is viewing. Changing to a new page often means adopting a new role on that page. Another example would probably help…when someone browses your iTunes U site root page, that person likely does so using a very generic role, say "public"; but that same person might adopt an "instructor" role within a subordinate course page within the very same iTunes U session. It is likely for this reason that roles are not displayed when using iTunes U…you can literally have hundreds of roles assigned to your iTunes U session…what role you use at any specific time depends on where you're at in iTunes U, that is, roles are context-dependant. -
I upgraded to ios7 on my iphone 4s and now many of my apps are prompting me to connect to itunes for push notifications. In most cases, i can just click ok to this prompt and carry on, but it is still a real nuisance. However with the app dropbox and find my phone, I can not get out of the prompt. I have to reboot my phone to be able to use it again. Any suggestions?

Just got my brand new A1 ideapad and when i go to the gallery there are pictures in there from dropbox. How do i get rid of them when I have no pictures on my dropbox account? Anyone else having this?

Are you by any chance talking about the pictures in the sample photo album that gets added by default to all Dropbox accounts? I think there are 3 pictures -- a cityscape, a parakeet, and a frog. -

Yes, I used the default email application, and the email provider is Cox Communications. Anything you can do to help would be appreciated. Also I was wondering if I should change to IMAP (from POP3)....perhaps that would help the problem? Don't know, as I don't know anyone else who uses IMAP. Your help, again, would be appreciated.

Can't delete file from my public drop box
Files were copied to my own drop box folder at ~/public/drop box/ and when I want to delete them it says it is locked. I can't unlock because I don't have permission. If I look at the permissions I see "fetching: custom, fetching: read and write, everyone: read only". The file is also locked and I can't unlock it. I tried using terminal to "sudo chmod" or "sudo chown" but it still says I don't don't have access. "ls -l" shows -rw-------+ 1 staff. "id" shows that I am a member of staff (uid=502(andrew) gid=20(staff) groups=20(staff)). OS is 10.10.1. What do I do now?
I managed to fix it. On the drop box folder itself I changed the permission for staff from write only to read & write and then applied to enclosed items.

File permissions issue when putting a file into another person's Drop Box
I frequently drop files from my Mac into a co-worker's Drop Box on her Mac. When I do so, however, the files are inaccessible to her until she does a Get Info and changes the owner to herself.
I've done file sharing of this sort between many different Macs before, but this is the first time I've ever seen someone have to alter file permissions on a file I gave to them--every single time. How can I avoid this problem?
We're both running 10.4.9.

MacBook 1.83GHz Mac OS X (10.4.9)I too have noticed this behaviour with the drop box and find it irritating. I don't use it much so I haven't investigated a solution, but your colleague could try opening Terminal from her admin account and entering these commands:
sudo fsaclctl -p / -e [this enables ACLs on her boot drive]
The below two lines can be pasted in at the same time (replacing "mary" with her short user name):
sudo chmod +a "mary allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file, \
addsubdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directoryinherit" ~mary/Public/Drop\ Box
That should allow her to have full access to any files put into her drop box. Rebooting might be necessary for the ACL settings to take effect.
Disclaimer: AFAIK this should work because I have gotten similar things working before. But I have not tested this specific solution.
FWIW, it might be easier to just e-mail her the file instead. -
Can't access files in my Drop Box (new user)
We have multiple accounts on a shared MacMini, and one user wanted to share some photos with me. She dragged them into my Drop Box. Now the photos are inaccessable. The message reads, "The folder could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges." This is my Drop Box, and I don't have sufficient access privileges? I don't get it. We want those photos back! Please help! (Note: I'm a new Mac user.)
Select the "Drop Box" folder and use Get Info (Command-I). Click the "Details" triangle to show the ownership and permissions. It should be owned by you, and you should have "Read & Write" access. Group and Others should have "Write only". If the ownership is wrong, you may have to click the padlock and give it an administrator account name and password to allow changes.

What is the difference between the Drop Box and Public folders? Which is easier for getting files to other users?
all users have read access to your Public folder. so if you want to make something available fro everybody to view that's a good place to put it. but nobody but you can write to your Public folder or change anything in it. but everybody can drop files into your DropBox. they will no longer see or have access to the files dropped into the drop box but you will and you'll automatically get write rights to anything others put in your drop box.
