Documents in the Cloud with a PC?

I am thinking of using Pages & Numbers to manage some documents on my devices --> iPhone 4 & iPad2, MBP, but I sometimes want to edit these on my work laptop as well...which is a PC.
If I use documents in the cloud, will I be able to open anything on my PC with the appropriate Office apps?
I currently use Dropbox, which works great, but is limited in my ability to edit anything on my iPad...unless I pay for DropDAV...which I would prefer not to do.
If I instead move my documents to iCloud, I know this will sync things across my apple products, but what about modifying things on my PC??
Has anyone tried this?

Actually, I found this:
Documents in the Cloud. And on your Mac or PC.
iCloud makes it easy to move Pages, Keynote, and Numbers documents between your computer and your iOS devices. Just sign in to icloud.com/iwork in any modern web browser, and all your iWork for iOS documents will be there — complete with your most recent edits. Click a document to download it in iWork ’09, Microsoft Office, or PDF format. You can also drag and drop any iWork ’09 or Microsoft Office document from your computer into one of the iWork apps on icloud.com, and it automatically appears on all your iOS devices, ready for you to review, edit, or present.
BUT - it states that the document will be downloaded. I am assuming then, that the document will need to be reuploaded after editing.
Can anyone confirm?

Does anybody know if you can search all your documents in the cloud, without opening each seperate application within Moutain Lion? Say you couldn't remember what application you wrote some notes in.

• Pages deleted a document in the cloud? please help

I was working with a pages document from the cloud this morning and it unexpectedly said "this document cannot be read, it must be closed" and since then I've been unable to open it. I was using pages on my Mac computer, with the occasional edit from my iPad (this wasn't the case when the document closed, however). Now the cloud is showing the document as containing Zero bytes, which is a bummer. Giant Bummer. Is there any way to open a previously edited version? I need help recovering this document from the cloud.

How do I duplicate a pdf document in the cloud?

Hi marting82944462,
As mentioned above by Bernd Alheit you will have to download the file on the local disc from the cloud & then upload it again, however you will have to rename the file as the architecture does not support two or more files with a similar name.
In case if you still have any query, please let us know. We will be more than happy to help you.

• IWork-documents in the cloud

Anyone else having trouble with iWork-documents in the cloud today? I cannot connect to the thru my iOS-devices, neither upload new from my mac.

I have the same problem:
I can only see "Get iWork for iOS" on my iCloud page. Yes, everything is up to date and Documents & Data is set to on both in the iCloud pane and the iWork apps panes.
Did you solve it?
How?

• Documents in the Cloud not working

I'm having issues with the Documents in the cloud feature for a couple of days now, first I thought my restore fixed it but as I was working with some documents in iWork for iOS I ran into the exact same problem again.
All my documents display the arrow going up badge or occasionally a progress bar that doesn't fill, and other apps that support iCloud for storing documents just refuse to let me access them.
I checked the logs for my iOS devices (an iPad 2 and iPhone 4S) and they both exhibit a particular line when I try to sync my files with iCloud
librariand[1208] <Error>: client connection is invalid: Connection invalid
I have no clue what's going on, going to icloud.com on my Mac and entering the iWork webapp doesn't show any documents either, even thgough I succesfully synced all of my Pages documents across my iOS devices yesterday and they are still on sync.

I'm having weirdness in Numbers and Pages too. Just upgraded an iPad 4 to 8.1.1, and now neither Numbers or Pages will load the iCloud documents. In fact, when I turn on "Use iCloud" in Settings and go to either of the Apps, nothing changes, but when I go back to Settings the "Use iCloud" has been switched back off. Both Apps load very slowly. When they finally do open and I click the + sign in the upper left of title bar, a blank cartoon-like bubble opens, then the App crashes. Interestingly a new iPhone 6 running the same software works just fine... both Apps load quickly and retrieve the iCloud documents instantly. I haven't got a clue...

• Documents in the Cloud a one-way street?

I was really looking forward to the Documents in the Cloud feature so that my Numbers spreadsheets would stay in sync between my Mac, iPad, and iPhone. However, currently any documents I save to iCloud from my Mac never become visible to Numbers running on my iOS devices. However, if I create a new document on iOS, the Mac version eventually sees it and also changes made on the Mac are synced to the iOS versions, albeit with quite a delay. The Mac is running Mountain Lion and all apps are patched to their latest versions. However, my iWork on the Mac is a boxed copy as I bought it before the MAS versions came out.
Does anyone have ideas on how to make this work properly? In the current form it's not quite what the feature description promised.

• "Documents In The Cloud" lost after restore

Hey,
My Safari was acting up so I decided to restore my Air to a Time Machine copy that was like 2 weeks old. After doing this my Pages documents have been restored to the date the backup was made! This is horrible, I had some important work in there. Guess with all this smart cloud technology it's still important to keep backups :/
Anyway, is there ANY way I can get my Documents In The Cloud items back to what they we like yesterday, before the restore?
Any help is MUCH appreciated.

Documents stored in iWork (e.g. Pages docs) on icloud also have a copy stored locally. When you restored from a TM backup, you got back the old iwork files. Whether viewing the older files has put those copies in icloud, in place of the new ones, I'm not sure. But if you log into icloud.com and go to the iwork page, you'll find those files there. You can then download them to the mac. Whether they will be the recent, new versions or the old versions, I don't know.

• "Documents in the Cloud" and Mountain Lion workflow??

I haven't yet upgraded to Moutain Lion but before I do I'm wondering if anyone can help answer a workflow question related to Documets in the Cloud and how it runs on Mountain Lion: Has Apple solve/simplified/streamlined the use of Documents in the Cloud beyond what is a significant hassle in Lion?
To better undertsand the context of my question, it may help to explain how it's working for me with Lion. I currently have all of the '09 version of the iWork Suite of apps (Pages, Numbes, Keynote), as well as the iOS versions of each. Although Lion has iCloud connectivity, there doesn't appear to be any ability for Page (or the other apps) to share/save/open documents directly to and from iCloud itself. Beyond the fact that there is no readably folder structure to iCloud, the current situation recquires me to manually drag/drop a file from my local HDD to the iWork interface on iCloud.com. Only then can I see and open the document on my iPad, iPhone, etc. Then, in order to back to my desktop, I have to manually download the file from the iCloud.com interface and reopen it locally. This means that unless I've taken the extra step of modifying the filename at some point in the process I now have two documents on my local drive with the exact same filename.
So, again, my question is: has Mountain Lion simplified/solved/steamlined the currently ridiculous process, or whill I still have to instead opt for Dropbox, Google Drive, or Box, all of which have user navigable directory structures and avoid the duplicate file issues?

Yes, it is simpler to work with iCloud files in Mountain Lion, assuming you have the latest version of each of the iWork '09 applications. You can open documents directly from iCloud in Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, and you can choose whether a new document is saved into iCloud or on the normal Finder file system.

• "Documents in the Cloud" vs iCloud---lost docs

I put in a new SSD and upgraded my MBP to Yosemite. All good---except some docs I had written using Text Editor are now somehow just gone. Evidently these were saved to Documents in the Cloud, which is now just gone...??
What has Apple done with my docs that were saved in Mountain Lion to (what it called anyway) the Cloud?
In Snow Leopard, my last OS, my Text Edit offered an option to save and open docs either to/from On This Mac, or onto Cloud. Some I had saved to Cloud, they are now in some unknown domain of cyberspace, or annihilated.
Apple says iCloud Drive now doesn't offer saving of text docs written in Text Edit. The Text Edit app used to offer saving/opening docs from what it called "Cloud"---evidently that was Apple's Documents in the Cloud, which is now deprecated---?
Apple told me that "the docs might be saved in Pages format" on iCloud Drive, but I thought I would inquire here if anyone had any experience with this, it looks like once you upgrade to iCloud Drive there's no going back, so I'm afraid to upgrade and then find the docs still aren't there and have been annihilated.
How to find my previous Documents in the Cloud folder, now that I'm on Yosemite with a new hard drive? I tried searching the old hard drive for .txt docs, it doesn't seem to see them. I have not searched Time Machine, but if I can't find the .txt files on the old hard drive, how would I find them in Time Machine?
I was a fool not to save the Documents in the Cloud docs separately---hoping someone can help me figure out if they still exist.

• Documents in the cloud seems to be dead after update

After the latest update (Mac and iOS) iCloud Documents is no longer working. icloud with calender and contacts is working but not documents in the cloud.
I use iwork on all my devices (iPad/iPhone/Mac) and it worked well in the last year. Now all functions are dead.
No up/download from/to Mac. Tried log out/log on to iCloud no change. Tried to connect via browser, but after selecting Pages or any other iWork app i'm always asked to give in my apple ID again. (This was working for weeks without any problem)
Any idea?

iCloud IS a disappointment. I am more than frustrated by the iCloud document service and sync. I teach and use a Numbers spreadsheet to keep track of my projects, grading and classroom attendance. I used to carry around a flash drive or use my wifi to exchange the latest updates to and from my laptop and desktop. When iCloud began I was excited about the possibility of accessing one file from two devices. But I am getting only upload failures and errors every time I try to access the shared document. It appears that the file is saved from the laptop and is accessible there. But if I go onto the iCloud web site or try to open the document from another computer, the document isn't there or, more than likely, the saved document was uploaded incompletely. So now I have a local backup on my laptop, another on my desktop, one incomplete document on the cloud and the original saved on the cloud on my laptop. The whole system is unreliable.
My fear is that since Mtn Lion saves 'local' documents to the cloud (unless you manually change the save to the hard drive), any document left up there will not be accessible by a new replacement machine or even a correctly inputted id and pw.
I'm going back to local save, copy and replace method of keeping one file up-to-date on multiple computers and talk to the iCloud geniuses to find out what's going on. I'll report back.

• Documents in the cloud sync

Hey,
I just updated my OSX to Mountain Lion and now one of the new add ons is the ability of documents in the cloud to also update on the mac automatically.
I was wondering how to access these files. Up to now I was going on the cloud, I was downloading the numbers files on the mac and then access them thru finder. As far as I understand now, I will go directly to numbers and access the files that reside on the cloud? No option to be able to do this thru finder?
THX

The iCloud panel for each application will open when you launch the application or use file > open, but not when you open the application by double clicking on a document to open it (pages, numbers, keynote, text edit and preview).
If this isn't happening for you with iWork applications, make sure you have updated to the latest versions.

• Documents in the Cloud isn't downloading and uploading files

Hello!
I'm with a very annoying bug on my iCloud, actually, in Documents in the Cloud.
The problem is so strange that's very hard to explain that in words. But let's give it a try: iCloud isn't uploading my files to the cloud at all. I already did everything like: enable/disable iCloud, delete my iWork apps and install it all again, delete all my iWork apps data from iCloud... but really NOTHING solves this. I even recorded a little video, it's more simple to show you what's happening here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpQ6wbFm6hM
(the text is in portuguese but I think you guys will get the idea)
Do anyone know what's happening and how to solve this? I called the brazilian AppleCare and the guys doesn't know what's happening too :/
Thanks!
Samuel Silva

I tried viewing the video on my computer, it turns out it's a flash video and I was unable to watch it on my iPod.
The problem with your documents are that they have become corrupt, you should delete them and start again. Of interest I note that you are not allowing the documents to fully upload before trying to open them on another device, once you have deleted all the documents from iCloud, I suggest leaving them until uploaded before trying to open them again.

• Documents in the cloud, search all

Can anybody (Developers) who has had experience with the beta of documents in the cloud (Mountain Lion) tell me if you can search all files without opening each seperate application within Moutain Lion? Say you couldn't remember what application you wrote some notes in.

Nobody here will have any information about that here since the community is only made up of users like you or I. Anything else is mere speculation and speculation is not permitted here under the Terms of Use for these communities.

• Documents in the Cloud not working (impossible!)

I am encountering the most strange difficulty with iCloud, particularly Documents in the Cloud and the syncing of Numbers and Pages documents between iPad and iPhone. I do not use Keynote.
I will try and describe the problem in as much detail as possible and explain everything I have tried to do.
My goal is for documents I create on iPad to sync to iPhone, and vice versa, with changes appearing on both, and on iCloud.com. To clarify I'm not involving the Mac in anyway, I am aware this is a current limitation of Documents in the Cloud. Unless I'm missing something, what I want to do is what is advertised.
- I am running the latest version of iOS on both iPad and iPhone.
- I have the latest versions of Keynote and Pages on both.
- I am logged in to iCloud on both iPad and iPhone with the same account
- iCloud is working fine for all other purposes (Bookmark sync, PhotoStream etc)
- Documents and Data is switched on, as is the option for Using Cellular Data
- Use iCloud is set to ON under Pages and Keynote preferences
- The arrow indicating a cloud document is on every document on both iPad and iPhone's icon, in the top right of each icon
- In iCloud -> Storage & Backup -> Manage Storage -> Documents & Data -> Numbers it displays all the expected documents.
The current behaviour appears to be that I create a document on either device, and the document is PARTIALLY uploaded to iCloud. That is, it appears on iCloud.com under iWork, but when I click on any file it either says "Upload failed" or "Waiting" for each file.
If I try and delete a document on iWork.com, it crashes the web app and does not delete the documents.
Things I have tried to resolve:
- Uninstalling and reinstalling Numbers and Pages on both devices
- Soft resetting both devices
- Disabling and re enabling Documents in the Cloud on both devices
- Disabling and re enabling iCloud toggle in the individual app preferences on both devices
- Deleting and readding iCloud account on both devices
- A full restore then restoring from iCloud backup on both devices (yes, I actually did that)
- A combination of the above in various sequence orders, none of which made any difference
More information... one solution on the web pointed to the problem involving a duplicate account which could be deleted from the Mail settings, however I only have one configured account - my iCloud account. Just in case it matters, my iCloud email is an @mac.com address.
I think I have covered everything. Any help would be appreciated since Apple themselves seemed pretty stumped on the phone, suggesting another restore, or setting the phone and iPad up as brand new devices. I'd really rather not until I've exhausted every possible outcome.
Any help massively appreciated!!!

I don't see it mentioned above, but when you remove the apps from your devices, have you been to system preferences > iCloud and checked that all your pages and numbers documents have been deleted from your storage, deleting them if necessary.
Also when you add things back, avoid adding documents with the same names as those you have been having problems with.
