I am new to Oracle Apps and thinking of learning it. Looking for some good functional documents which can help me in understanding and getting strong base as a beginner.

I think, I need servers and clients of E-Business Suite & RDBMS (10 g or 11g). I'm afraid whether 200GB of free disk- space & 3 GB RAM on my Desktop may not be sufficient if I install both servers & Clients.

Implementing Function Security in Oracle apps.

I wanted to restrict certain menus in Payables manager for a particular user. How should i implement it? Is there any live example of implementing function security in oracle apps? Please Help.

Hi,
One approach is to create a custom menu and attach to it all the menus and functions you want and the add this menu to a new responsibility. But this is not the best way to solve the issue because you have to define different menus + responsibilities for each different user. Other way is to create roles which can be assigned to users.

I have done my Bachelors in Computers and Am OCP Certified in Oracle9i ( development). I am having 4.5 Years of experience as a Oracle PL/SQL Developer ( Not completely into Development but am into maximum Application support and some part of Development. Now I want to learn Oracle Apps Technical. But am not aware of the Modules which are helpful to my career. I worked for many domains like Retail, Pharma, Manufacturing and Telecom.
So please have a look into this and suggest me the Module details. So very soon am planning to learn those Modules which are like hot cake in Market.

information of that exchange gain/loss.

Why you need this? You can create read only user to select tables... You can check table name from e-trm site.
or you may try below query:

Oracle App AR module

We are trying to integrate AR with a J2EE application. Could somebody advice as to which is the best way to go about it?
We do not want to query tables directly, we want to go thru the API's provided by 11i (1159). We have a lot of custom queries for fetching invoices. Also need to know where I can look at the API's provided and how much can be customised.
Any help is appreciated.

List of users who were granted particular function in oracle apps R12 db?

I need to list all users who were granted particular function (suppliers) from oracle apps R12 database. User -->Resp -->Menu --> Submenu/function. I have two queries like the following
--Below sql query give all users those
having Purchasing and Payables application access.

Career in Oracle Apps ? Please Help

Hello Everyone
There is a question which is troubling me a lot, I will be very happy if I can get any valuable feedback on it.
Let me describe my self, I am a software Engg with a work exp of 3.5 yrs in PL/SQL (Banking Domain) and currently I have switched a new company where I am learning and working on Oracle Apps (Finance: AP, PO). I am planning for my MBA next year from top 10 institute in India. Now here are my questions:
PS: I love traveling across the globe, so i would prefer a job which includes lots of traveling. I am good in Public Relation and good in communication.
1. How is the market demand for Oracle Apps?
2. Will Oracle Apps in Supply Chain Mangmnt will help me get a job which is more of client facing and traveling?
3. Should I go for MBA Operations or MBA Marketing. And will 2yrs MBA help me or 1 yr will do the needful to work as a Oracle Apps Functional?
At the end i would like to end up as an Oracle Apps Functional consultant but i am not sure which stream will help me.

Looking to build my career as a Functional Consultant in Oracle SCM

Hello all,
I am MBA marketing and operations fresher and want to make career into oracle apps scm module . Can anyone suggest me what should be my my next step to get to get this profile . Prior to MBA i have done Computer engg so have knowledge about database and pl/sql .
Please suggest me what should i do next to get this profile . Through search on internet i came across some institutes and company from pune wherein they provide paid training for 3 months for scm and then we can go for certification .
Here i wanted to ask that being a mba fresher can i learn scm in 3 months. Should such a course help to get where i want to .

Laptop config for installing oracle apps

Hi All,
what could be the best config and brand for installing oracle apps in laptop for learning purpose? Will oracle apps supports Windows Vista as most of the current laptops has Vista as the default OS?
I have tried installing oracle apps in desktop and not in laptop yet.I found in the net the below steps is one of the ways to install oracle apps in laptop.
1.Install VMware on windows OS (Virtual Machine)
2.Install enterprise linux
3.Install oracle apps
Pls let me know if anyone have installled oracle apps in laptop.

Hi Kumar,
Yes, for learning Vista/VMWare/OEL/Apps would work, but note VMWare not supported on Vista but it does run (boot using Disable Driver Signing) and you might find Linux VMs take 20-30mins or so to start the first time after host boot. Also I'd turn off the Vista frilly bits!
Specs - get something recent, the better hardware the faster it runs! For Vista and R12 on VMWare I'd say you'd want 4GB memory, fast dual core CPU and tons of disk. Also you'll want Vista 64 to get the best out of the memory (and if you want more than 4Gb). Some laptop brands come with options for different OS's like images on DVD or hidden on the harddisk that you can easily reinstall.
PS. Laptops are like desktop's these days, not a huge difference in specs...
PPS. If you want a less painful option try to downgrade to Windows XP (watch memory limits), still lots of hassles with Vista.
PPPS. I'd go for OpenSuse (Suse clone) or Centos (RedHat clone) over OEL for learning machine due to no subscription for updates, etc.
