Documents with Smart Objects - Very slow to open and Save - CS6 Photoshop

When opening and saving documents with smart objects photoshop freezes the adobe PS loader (circle dots) is replaced and the system loader (multi colored wheel of death) spins for 30 seconds or more.
What I've tried so far based off looking at various posts.

Suitcase 4
Anyone got any ideas? This is making me go nuts!

A solution!
It turns out the problem in my case was in fact Suitcase. Previously, I'd tried turning it off, but that didn't fix the problem, so this time, I uninstalled it completely and the problem disappeared. I then began re-adding it (installed 15.0.1, upgraded it, etc.) and the problem resurfaced with the addition of the Photoshop-specific plugin. Deleting that plugin solved the problem. So it seems that "disabling" Suitcase by stopping the TypeCore doesn't seem to actually disable all of the tentacles it sticks into your system.
You can find the plugin here: Applications / Adobe Photoshop CS6 / Plug-ins / Automate / ExtensisFontManagementPSCS6.plugin
(After a restart, I also had to delete the font cache, as described here http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-photoshop-cs5.html but your mileage may vary.)
Alternately, if you don't want to delete the plugin, disabling it from within Photoshop seems to work as well. To do that, go to File > Automate > Extensis, click Preferences..., then deselect Enable Suitcase Fusion 4 Auto-Activation.
Fortunately, the plugin doesn't seem necessary at all to use the the core functionality of Suitcase (enabling and disabling fonts) in Photoshop. I didn't even know what these app-specific plugins did until researching this problem, and I still don't quite understand the point of them. I guess they allow you to let the apps for which they're installed do a little bit more of their own management (enable a font via Suitcase that isn't enabled system-wide), but that seems like more control than I need--if I'm enabling a font, I want all my software to be able to use it.
Anyway, the problem seems to be completely solved on my system now, though I just did all this, so more testing over the next few days is required. I'll post here if any issues crop up. I'm interested in hearing if this solves it for anyone else as well.

  • Illustrator CC very slow to open and save large format files

I work in a print shop that prints biggish stuff. I will frequently have files that postscript to close to a GB or more. Working on simple vector art with a few images in CC is not too much of a problem, but I still notice CC is slower than CS 6. The big problem is when I get a few 200mb PDF's, or files with layers of transparent PSD files in them etc, big busy files, then AI CC really bogs down, or frequently crashes altogether. CS 6 is MUCH better. I don't have the font issues, AI CC works fine with simple files. Saving & opening these big files is such a problem, I just save them back to CS 6, but that causes problems too, I do not want to, nor should I have to have 2 versions open at the same time. I always try to optimize the files as best possible, but it is tough sometimes as they R supplied by the customer, and the time it takes. We save to a Windows Server 2008 R2 box over gigabit network, which I know is not best practice, but no choice with the sheer volume of files. Would B insane to try to keep track & copy them back & forth, and it was never a big issue with CS 6. I am the first victim in our office, but the other 3 Mac Pro's will B switching over to CC this week, and I know the operators will B crying.
Anyone else out there having the same large file problems?

I'm not sure Adobe would like this, but it seems to be working for us on Mac OSX 10.9.3 and Illustrator CC 2014
Go to your user Library > Preferences folder and open com.adobe.mediabrowser.plist using TextEdit.
Select all the text and delete it.
    Save the file
Get Info and lock the file.
I also removed the com.adobe.mediabrowser.plist.lockfile from the Preferences folder.
So far doing this really improves performance in Illustrator CC 2014. Opening and saving files happens at a reasonable rate; however there is a down side. Preferences no longer save. Changes made to pallettes, etc. have to be redone everytime Illustrator is opened.
Other posts mention having Verdana and Trebuchet installed. I didn't find this to help at all.

  • Open and Save Dialogs Very Slow to Open and Populate

In all of my apps, the Open and Save dialogs have become +very slow+ to open and populate since installing Snow Leapoard.
This only happens on one of my machines, and not others. (I've unmounted all connected drives, just to eliminate that possibility.)
Any thoughts on what this could be. The delay is significant (and feels like the old days of Windows, which I thought I'd left behind).

The problem now appears to have gone away. The only change I've made is that I replaced an external drive that had recently died with a new one and gave it the same name as the failed drive.
Could a the dead drive have left something behind (or failed to leave something behind) that is stumbled over (or looked for and not found) each time the file system was accessed, and that got cleaned up (or re-created) when the new drive was connected and renamed?

  • CS4 File info dialog very slow to open and respond.

CS4 File info dialog very slow to open and respond. Every click or or key stroke takes more than 1 second to record. I have try multiple changes in the performance preferences and nothing has an affect. This is the only dialog box in the program that has the problem. The problem started when I uninstalled and reinstalled because of problems with the program freezing. I have changed every setting in the preferences performance section back and forth including 3 different amounts of memory usage (lo hi and recommended) restarting PS every time and nothing works. I would appreciate any help, keeping in mind that there have been no changes to the PC and it worked fine for a long time (approx 1/12 years) previous to the reinstall. I've been having the same problem now for a few weeks and its killing me. Not sure what I can do, but in Photoshop and Bridge, the only programmes I use on a daily basis, it takes me forever to enter file information.

    re installed Snow Leopard
renamed old preferences and restarted to create new prefs

  • Photoshop document with smart objects changed when I apply color profile. Why?

I work in Photoshop with smart objects. When I apply color profile smart object are changed. For example change filter or change size. I dont now why?
    See image

Yes, fortunately, I am a Windows user, but I don't want to start a religious war here And it is also possible to run multiple versions of Adobe products simultaneously under Windows - why shouldn't that be possible? Currently I have CS3 and CS4 and somtimes use CS3 when CS4 is just too buggy to get the job done. Before that I had CS and CS2 on the same machine.
But I wouldn't keep all versions back to PS 6.0 or CS, that would be a bit too chaotic and I'd had to spend days of installing if I get a new computer. I expect those programs to be a little bit backwards-compatible, so I don't have to use many different versions. And for Photoshop, this is mostly the case. It's just very tiny details like Smart Object resizing that seems to work differently.
Otherwise I'm really happy that in CS4 I can finally link Masks to smart objects and apply warp and perspective on them, that's a big plus!

  • Issues with using my iPhoto library on my external hard drive.  Very slow to open and pictures disappear in thumbnail view.

I have recently transferred my iPhoto Library to my external hard drive (WD MyBook Live) and have some questions.  Since I have done this and used the "alt + option" to select it as my default library I have been having some issues.  When using the library on the external drive as my default drive it takes a very long time to load compared to when it was on my macbook's hard drive. Is this normal?  Also, once it does load the thumbnails are only viewable when scrolling quickly through the photos and they are very blurry.  However, if I were to select one randomly (because of this problem I have no way of knowing which one I'm selecting) it brings it up in the edit view and it is a crystal clear picture.
Is there a way to fix these issues?  I'd love to be able to use the iPhoto Library off the external drive to free up space on my macbook but if it isn't going to work as streamlined as it would on my macbook hard drive.  I have not yet deleted the original iPhoto Library from my macbook because I did not want to do so until I knew the new iPhoto library on the external drive was working properly.  Does this make a difference?
    Please help!

The problem lies with occasional dropouts that can corrupt the library's database files if they are being written to as the time of dropout.  It's the nature of wireless networks.  If you have a very strong signal throughout and are willing to take a chance then go for it.
But as for the speed, it must be iPhoto 11 and it's complexity causing the slowness. I had tried using a library on an EHD connected to my iMac from my laptop wirelessly with iPhoto 7 or 8 and it was pretty fast.  I think it was 7 before faces and places came into being.
Send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html to improve wireless performance, etc.

  • Shared file from computer with Windows 7 slow to open and save on computer with Windows 8.1

I have three computers in homegroup. They can see each other and sharing files is not a problem. Main computer, where I have all my data on uses Windows 7 Home premium, and Office 2007. Both other computers use latest version Windows 8.1, Office 2010. I
use these two computers to access files on main computer (word, excel). I have problems, because when I try to open word and excel files on these two other computers, files open very slow (green bar is showing, although word has no text inside), and also saves
very slow - empty word file takes 1 minute for saving.
One of computers with 8.1 had 8 before updating and I managed to solve this problem with running this protocol (smb.bat) - this solved the problem, although I do not really understand why:
    sc config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi
    sc config mrxsmb20 start= disabled
So it seems it is really something to do with the version of windows since the same computer had windows 8 and this protocol and worked well, but when updated to 8.1 it works slowly (I tried this protocol, but it is not working)
Please see if there is any solution (updated protocol?) because I really cannot wait for word file to open 1 minute.
    Thank you for help!

    Hi,
First, You can leave the homegroup and join again to see the result.
    To leave a homegroup:
1.Open HomeGroup by typing homegroup in the search box, and then clicking HomeGroup.
    2.Click Leave the homegroup.
3.Click Leave the homegroup, and then click Finish.
You can also join the homegroup in the way accordingly.
Besides, this happens after a upgrade to Windows 8.1, this also might be caused by service conflict, I suggest to perform a clean boot to solve this:
1.Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. Or, if you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.
2.Type msconfig in the search box, and then tap or click msconfig.
3.On the Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then tap or click Disable all.
4.On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click Open Task Manager.
5.On the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then click Disable.

  • ITunes 10.2 Upgrade fix temporary. Fix to iTunes 10.2.2 by uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support and install AMDS from 10.0. Worked only to fail in 5 days. iTunes back to very slow to open and will not see device (iPhone) connected. Sorry

I was one this site for 20+ Days and found a fix for 10.2.1 when it failed. I Uninstalled all, following other attempts that failed, then installed latest Version from Apple iTunes 10.2.12. I then uninstalled Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS) and installed AMDS from the older 10.0 version of iTunes. Success it worked. Today, I am now back to old problem, iTnes takes very long time to open and fails to see my device when connected (iPhone). I really only have iTunes for my iPhone no extensive library a few hundred CD's in music location and no podcasts. I have less than 6 moveis and want to update them now. I am willing to lose all in iTunes library if need be just to get computer to see G3 iPhone with iOS 4.2 and let me synch once again. I like security of backup too. It older iTunes may now not support, that too is OK. I still want to get the 3GS (no 4G desires, yet) and do not care if any of it is the latest from Apple as long as it works.

    Hi Erik,
Your basic suggestion actually worked for me. But this is what I did for others who are having issues removing/installing etc.
    1. Download the latest iTunes 8.2. You should end up with a file iTunesSetup.
    2. If you dont already have WinRAR, download free copy from http://www.rarlab.com/ and install.
    3. Right click on iTunesSetup and choose "Extract" to somewhere you know. eg C:\itunetemp
    4. Open up folder where you extracted iTunesSetup and double-click applemobiledevicesupport.msi
    5. It should ask you if you want to repair or remove... choose remove.
    6. REBOOT your PC.
    7. Go back to where you extracted iTunesSetup and double-click applemobiledevicesupport.msi and go through the install.
    8. Plug in your iPhone.
If all is well iTunes should automatically start and start syncing your iPhone.
    Goodluck all!
    Cheers.

  • Firefox was fast when I first started using. Now, very slow to open and freezes often. Frequent message is "Warning-unresponsive script". Do I need to switch back to Internet Explorer?

Switched from Internet Explorer because seemed slow. Firefox was fast at first. Then upgraded to Firefox 4 and frequently have trouble opening. Sometimes page doesn't open, or is very slow. If I try to open again I will get Mozilla Firefox Unresponsive or a message that say "Warning-Unresponsive Script". Often have to restart and do the whole thing again. Don't really want to switch back to Internet Explorer, but getting tired of taking a half hour to get into my emails!

I am having the same problem, but not sure what's causing the slow down. Restarting in safe mode fixes the performance problem... but disabling all plug ins and extensions in normal mode (and restarting firefox) still shows the bug. Any ideas?

  • Slow to open and save files

My Macbook Pro with Mac OS X 10.7.4 has been real slow lately in opening files, saving documents, opening webpages.  Any suggestions on ways to speed things up?  I often have MS Excel and Word and Outlook open so not sure if that is the problem.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only Guest login created by Find My Mac.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The Guest login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Illustrator CS4 Slow to open and save

    Hi
For the past couple of weeks, I've been having big problems working in Illustrator.  Opening and saving files are the main issues, sometimes I can work within the program without problems, but at other times, other windows, such as Safari or Bridge are active instead of Illustrator.
When opening a file, it generally takes a couple of minutes, first nothing happens, and then the wheel of doom appears.
The files are not large - I have tried opening a blank file and saving a simple square, and still have the same issues.
    The computer spec is
    Mac OS X
    Version 10.6.8
Processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory 8 GB
Capacity on Hard drive 500 GB, used 73.5 GB
I use a nas box to store my work, but am not working directly from this.
I have tried fixing disk permissions
    Secure emptying trash
    Running Onyx
    Software update
    Having fewer programs open
    Deleting Illustrator preferences
    Rebooting in safe mode
Identifying fonts with error in fontbook and removing them
Other programs seem to work OK.
I'm not sure what else to try, and help would be very much appreciated, thank you.

  • Bridge very slow to open each time - CS6

I'm frustrated with how long Bridge takes to start up each time I launch the app. I have a very powerful machine (8-core, 3+ GHz, 24GB RAM,  500GB SSD, etc.); I have set the cache to save in each folder (I am told this should speed up the process, as only the cache associated with the folder I am opening must be read); I have set the 'number of files' option in the Cache slider to a high number (as I have the disk space), etc.
I appears that the app is rebuilding the cache every time I open!! A small black dialog is present on the left saying "Building..." - and it can take 5-6 minutes each time I start the program.. this is terrible performance! I have tried compacting and rebuilding the cache, etc.
    What can be done??

hmmmm - you mean a piece of software doesn't always work as expected?? LOL
It seems to me you are a smart person
So I will turn off the "automatically export cache to folders when possible" option, change my cache location from D: drive back to C: drive (the SSD).
Thats what I would do, including to delete (or if you like purge central cache but I prefer the manual delete) the existing cache when it is getting to large. I usually dump it when it gets to 40 GB. You start again with a fresh and empty cache file, but cache on an SSD is building fast, so I usually do this in the evening and start building it again overnight using my main folder in the content window and menu view / show items from subfolders and let t run. On my former system with HDD this could take several hours but the SSD is much faster.
Should I leave the Prefs/Cache item "Keep 100% previews in cache" turned on? I would think so…
That depends on your needs, I don't use 100 % very often (have a 30" screen) and it is set to on. However this means every time you choose to see a 100 % preview it builds a large cache file and stores it in the folder 'full' If you deselect it this folder won't get filled so quickly but every time you visit this file again to look at 100 % it needs to build cache, choose your pick
Since all my monitors are 1920x1200, does it make any difference about setting "Generate Monitor sized previews..." - I thought this was just to force large sized previews if one happened to have a small screen laptop for instance hosting the app…
Although there are different opinions in this forum (Yammer has a long thread about this subject) I have set it to on and with great satisfaction. When you use the space bar to show a file full screen then having set this option to on should provide you the best result instantly and should not need to rebuild cache for best view.
This machine can only support 1 SSD drive, on my next upgrade I plan to install 2 SSD (1 for OS/Apps, 1 just for PS Scratch) as well as the striped set of data drives.
Even with 100 GB of data (per day that is a massive production, I don't envy you for that…) but with a clear strategy you should be able to use all on the main SDD. It takes a bit discipline and concentration to be sure the files are copied to other disks and backed up safely before deleting them from SDD.
    Thanks again for the advice.
    Your welcome

  • Apps very slow to open and work

My mac mini (i7, 4gb ram, 1TB HD, 700  Gb free) has become excruciatingly slow to load apps: the iWork or the MS office 2011 programs, the icon just keeps bouncing on the dock - I can literally go make coffee in the meantime; once opened, it still lags 5 minutes before I can begin working. Up to a few weeks ago, it was very snappy - opened as soon as I clicked on it and I could work in 2 seconds... but I haven't installed anything, have just kept the system tuned with updates and disc utilities...
