Documents won't print in Classic mode

My machine is running OS 10.3.9. I have two programs on this machine that require classic to run and I can't print from either program. I get a Laserwriter 8 error -5751. I have used these same two programs on OS 10.2.8 and they print with no problem. I have tried printing to an HP LaserJet 4200 and a HP Color LaserJet 4500. I have updated my printer driver and re-installed Laserwriter 8. Does anyone have any ideas?

This may or may not be your problem, but
It depends on how you are set up.
I have the printer set up utility for OS9 in Classic
And I also have the same in OSX.
I have an older HP that I downloaded from the disk to OS9 and the exact same in OSX.
Be sure that when you download any updates or upgrades from HP's site they are in the correct Operating Systems folders, for the printer to work in both..
OS9 or Classic drivers and setup will not work in OSX. Likewise the same is true of OSX to Classic or OS9.. Sometimes it can get a little silly but you can make it work...Don

  • Printer Won't Print in Portfolio Mode

I've had trouble with my wireless printing with my Deskjet 6988. I got it reconfigured, but it won't print in any mode other than landscape with very small print. I've checked all of my print settings, and print mode seems to be property configured. Any suggestions?

Model: HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus
    O/S: MSOffice 7
    Apps: Office 2007 & 2010
    Modem: Netgear 7550 - AT&T
We were previously on a Motoroloa Modem (3750) however, it was an unstable and would drop connection to internet only but not for print jobs. Very strange.
We switched to the Netgear, opened ports, set the IP to a manual static and still nothing fixes the sleep mode/NO PRINT issues. Rather annyoing....
As you all are aware, we have to UNPLUG or even POWER OFF the printer in order for the spool to continue. Rather ridiculous if you ask me....
Per my conversation with HP as of 2:54pm Friday August 24th, 2012...."We are completely aware of the issue and we are working on this as effectively as we can. I will be able to give you a call back Monday August 27, 2012."
I will post my update if any....
    Stay tuned....

  • HP LaserJet 1300 won't print from Classic

I can’t print out of Classic environment because the printer (HP Laserjet 1300) isn’t installed there. My computer does not have dual boot. (That is, it can run classic, but not boot up in classic.) I've read some related posts and have tried some suggestions, but so far to no avail.
The installation CD has installation for OS 9 and OS 10 and I have installed both from the OS X environment. But there is still no HP Laserjet 1300 icon in the Chooser in the OS 9 environment. I should mention that when I went to chooser and clicked on Laserwriter 8 icon, I noticed that there was a place that said “Select a PostScript Printer” but there was no printers to be selected in the related field. I have been to Apple System Profiler in OS 9 and there is no driver listed there for my HP laserjet even though I have installed it.
When I click print I get a yellow ! message that says that my Document could not be printed because printer “LaserWriter could not be found. Try again?
This printer works fine from OS X, but not from classic. I called apple help and they said to go to the HP website. The HP website said the following:
“Installing a driver in Mac in classic mode
    2004/11
Installing an HP driver in MAC® classic mode may be useful: if, for example, an application you want to use is not supported by MAC OS X.
This functionality is supported by the PostScript and the raster drivers.
    Installing the driver
With the latest version of the drivers, the installer already foresees separate MAC OS 9 and OS X installation. On MAC OS X, run the OS 9 installation and it will install in classic mode.”
    MY QUESTION:
How do I “run the OS 9 installation”? What buttons do I press to do this?
    Thanx in advance
    Fred

froellig, two wholly different things here.
Looking at the 9 driver for LaserJet 1300 HP offers for download, anyway, it isn't actually a driver - it's merely an installer which, from either X or 9, should give you Printer Description Files to use with the standard PostScript drivers, namely LaesrWriter 8 or AdobePS.
Test that it did that much by using Apple's Desktop Printer Utility to create a virtual desktop printer… If the Change button in PostScript Printer Definition (PPD) File pane leads to a Printer Descriptions list that does include HP LaserJet 1300 Series that much, at least, seems to have worked.
If the printer works from OS X, then you could use LaserWriter 8 in Classic to Print to File, which would give you .ps files which you could manually drag into any X print queue. This works for most printers.
The other thing is that yes, LaserWriter should show the 1300 in the right-hand Chooser pane so again, can X see it and print to it?
If not that suggests a cable or hardware fault, bad settings or interference from other software.
If X can see and use the printer, and there are no other faults with Classic 9, that suggests something inside OS 9 is interfering.

  • Won't save in classic mode

I have a G3 iBook with OS 10.3.9 and OS 9 that runs in Classic mode. My applications that use classic won't save to disk. I get a message that says "File saving not allowed in that area". I bought the computer used so I don't know how it was set up. What do I need to do to get saving permission in classic mode?

    Thanks for the tip.
I did run the utility and the log showed errors found and repaired. I ran it a second time and no errors found. I started up Excel, which runs on classic on my machine, and tried to save to the desktop. I got the same "Saving in this area not allowed" message. I bought an external disk by Lacie to use as a backup and I can't even save directly to that disk when running an application in Classic mode. I can save a file to disc in Texteditor, then open it in Word and save the file in Word, but I can't save a new file created in Word.

  • Appleworks document won't print on my emac

I can get my emac computer to print from the internet as well as scan and print. For some reason it won't print from a basic appleworks word processing document. In the print box, I get " Unable to open the printer connection". I'm confused, I connect to print from the internet, why won't it print from appleworks. I know nothing about printer connections. I realize my computer is referred to as "vintage". It worked just fine and all of a sudden it quit printing. What did I do wrong? I NEED HELP !!! I have wedding invitations I need to send out ASAP and I am getting nervous. Thanks to anyone who gives me a quick response.

    Hi p-h,
That quick post was a workaround that I thought would let you print right away.
What might cure the problem is deleting AppleWorks's preferences files. See this post by Peggy in the User Tips library for details.

  • The last page of every pdf document won't print.

If I ask to print just one page - nothing.   If I ask for two pages, I get the first page.   Help.  Using Mac OSX 10.9.5 and Adobe 11.0.09
I tried printing using an older version of Adobe, had the 'won't print last page problem' so I upgraded to the latest version.   Still the same exact problem.    Does anyone have suggestions?

I have the same problem, but not just in Acrobat. Indesign also. So... I can't print a single page. Have to print two, and toss the one I don't want. Seems to be a problem with Adobe print interface. I can sometimes "trick" it by going to system print dialog box and back out again.

  • Documents won't print, although there is no problem with Explorer

  • Word documents won't print after upgrade

I upgraded my G4 Cubefrom OS9.2.2 to Panther successfully. I also upgraded to a new printer. When I try to print documents created in my old system on OS9 in microsoft Word, they open up OK in Classic, but the print click brings up the old printer. How do I select the new printer? The printer works fine with old Appleworks documents. Also, will my very old 1998 Word programme work in OSX or will I continue to need Classic for it to function? Any thoughts would be most welcome. Thanks.

You must install an OS 9 printer driver for the new printer and remove the driver for the old printer.
The version of Word that you have is an OS 9 only version. You can use it while running OS X via the Classic emulation but the program will not run natively in OS X. For that you will need to upgrade to an OS X version.
If you plan to continue using OS X you will need to upgrade all your old software to OS X versions including AppleWorks (6.2.9 upgrade is available for owners of AW.)

  • Epson Printing in Classic mode using a wireless network

I have an OS X powerbook connecting to a wireless network. The user I'm working with has a Classic application that she needs to be able to print from. I am able to set her up to print fine in OS X wirelessly, but can't figure out what to do for classic. She is trying to print to an Epson C86, and the problem is that I can not find a PPD file for this printer. I was going to set her up using the desktop printer utility and LPR. The problem is that the generic driver doesn't work for her, and I can't use the chooser to select this printer with the wireless network. Any suggestions?? I have been told that AppleTalk will not work over a wireless network so I'm sort of at a loss of what to do next. Thanks !!!

  • Printing in Classic mode, no USB ports?!

    Hi all,
Sorry if this is a repeated topic, but I couldn't find the answer. I have a Blue and White G3 running OS X.2 and I can print with my USB Epson CX4600 in 10.2, and I can print in 9.2 when I restart in 9.2, but I can't print in OSX from any application running in classic environment. It seems that 9.2 doesn't see the USB ports in the chooser.
    Any advice??
    Joey

This will sometimes happen when switching back and forth from OS9 to OSX and back again. The only way I have found to fix this is normally you have to eiter reset the Printer and sometimes the Computer and sometimes you have to do both.
I find that Unplugging the Printer for a minute and shutting off the computer, ( NOT RESTART) OFF.
Check all your cables then Plug back in your printer and then restart your computer and you will be good.
Remember switching back and forth or working from one Operating System to another and back again will sometimes cause this.

  • Word document won't 'print' to PDF on proper paper size

I have a document in MS Word that's on a 5.5x8.5 page size. If I do a Save As, the resulting PDF uses the proper paper size, but it also shows color--which I don't want for this particular document.
When I do Print and choose Adobe PDF, I can choose Black/white which is great, but I'm struggling to get it to use the right paper size. I've tried ever combination I can think of in the Default Setting and Adobe PDF Page Size options, but can't get it to show anything but 8.5x11.
Any thoughts on how to get the right paper size using Print to PDF?

Is this a Word document generated by Adobe's RoboHelp product or just a document generated directly in Word?
If the latter, you are asking in the wrong place. Even if you are using RoboHelp, this looks more like a question to ask in the Acrobat forums.

  • My interactive InDesign CS 5 document won't print.

It is a 20 page document with three videos in it. Every time I select print, ID shuts down. Anyone have an idea?

I can't help you too much with Windows crashes, sorry.
Have you tried the top two recommendations, though? Trash your Preferences (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990)
and round-trip the document through IDML to remove corruption (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526991)

  • Suddenly placed EPS images in document won't print

Recently I had to do a clean reinstall of the Mac OS to clear up some problems. I backed up all my files and applications before doing so, so I could move AppleWorks back onto my Mac from the backup.
Now I am trying to print out an existing document from AppleWorks that has two placed EPS images in it. The only thing that prints is some text I have typed directly into the document. The document prints blank where the EPS images are supposed to be.
To narrow down whether it was a problem with my printer or not, I chose the print command and then chose "save as PDF." The resulting PDF file is also blank were the EPS images are supposed to be, seemingly pointing to a problem with AppleWorks. I tried deleting and then reinserting the EPS images but this did not solve the problem.
Thoughts on how I can correct this are appreciated.

Whe you move AppleWorks from one machine to anothe (or back onto the same machine) you need to move the entire AppleWorks 6 folder and all of its contents.
After doing so, you should delete the AppleWorks preferences files. You will need to do this for each user account on the machine.
Go to username > Library > Preferences
Locate and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist
Still in the Preferences folder, locate and open the folder AppleWorks.
From that folder, delete the following files:
    AppleWorks 6 Assistant Prefs
    AppleWorks 6 Assistants Cache
    AppleWorks 6 Preferences
    AppleWorks 6 Translators Cache
If you have made changes to the Button Bar, and have experienced NO problems associated with the Button Bar, it is likely safe to leave the file AppleWorks 6 Button Bars where it is. Otherwise delete it as well.
AppleWorks will create new copies of these files as they are needed.
Then use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions on your startup drive. You'll find Disk Utility in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder.

  • CS3 document won't print in CS5

I created an InDesign document in CS3 in Windows and opened it in CS5 on the Mac. It looks fine but when I attempt to print it, the dialog box does not appear. I can open and print other documents but this one doesn't want to cooperate. Anyone have any ideas?

Hm, simultaneuous cross-platform and cross-version conversion. Typically these conversions are not problematic for printing but You Never Know. I habitually export INX from CS3 and open the INX in the newer version of ID - fewer composition problems that way.  Likewise, saving the newly-opened file, exporting IDML, and re-opening the IDML in CS5 is another way to handle typical cross-version file conversion balkiness.
Can you export a PDF and print that?
