One of the great things about this forum is that it is searchable. A search on the key phrase in your error message, "cannot be opened because it has been deleted" brings up a number of relevant posts on the first page of results, including the thread here:

  • Large pages document won't save

I have a very large pages document - 400 pages, 1.4GB. I have been replacing all the images in the document with edited versions of them, perhaps making the document slightly larger. When I try to save the document it goes to the halfway mark, stays there for ages, and then says that pages cannot save the document. Is there a certain size document that pages simply won't save as I know I have enough space on my computer to store the file.

Well,  Did you save it as Untitled? Where did you save it? On the HD or on iCloud? Is it just this untitled document or are you having problems with more Pages documents? what else haven't ypu told us?

  • Documents won't save after migration

I recently bought a MacBook Air. I did a migration of my MacBook Pro to my new Air. Now, when I open documents on the Air from the Macintosh HD icon on my desktop (e.g. word or excel so far in my experience), after I make changes to those documents I can't save them. I get a messge that it's 'read only'. So I change the name and hit save. But then I get an error that I can't save it to the HD, so I save it to the desktop.
Now, I also have multiple copies of the doc that I'm working on saved to my desktop (I guess from saving during the time I work on them), and I'm forbidden from dragging them to the trash.
This of course must have something to do with the migration but I can't figure it out.
    Please help??!

Thank you so much, that fixed it! It seemed so easy but I would never have figured that out

  • Documents won't save - HELP Please!

I've experienced an odd problem "all of a sudden.". None of my documents will "Save" any longer. I've just reinstalled Snow Leopard on my machine, and then reinstalled iWork 9, but when I open Pages and start a document and try to "save" it, nothing happens. Same thing with Word. The "Save" menu shows up but when I try to invoke it, it simply doesn't do anything. In case it means anything, when I tried repairing permissions (just to see if THAT was the problem) I saw an odd line reading: "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired."
    Thanks, Monica

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
If you select one of those files and invoke the Finder operation File -> Duplicate, can the Finder create a duplicate of that file? If you do a Finder File -> Get Info on one of those files, does it say in the "Sharing & Permissions" section that "You can read and write"? Is the same thing true of the enclosing folder?
when I tried repairing permissions (just to see if THAT was the problem) I saw an odd line reading: "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired."
You should ignore that message. It's unrelated to your problem. By the way, a "repair permissions" operation doesn't do much if anything for settings of user files.

  • Multi-Section Word Document Won't Save as Single pdf

I'm using MS Word 2004 and have a document split into 3 sections (so to permit landscape printing of the middle section containg a bunch of big tables, portrait on the two others containg text mostly, before and after).
When I try to create a pdf within the Word Print Dialog, 3 separate pdfs are created -- one for each section. Is there a way to get it to create just 1 pdf?
I don't do this sort of thing very often, so hope there is some easy, inexpensive way. I thought about copying the tables and then pasting as a picture, rotating it, but the margins for the middle center section are also different (so to fit the tables).
Any help or ideas are most appreciated.

Is this a Word document generated by Adobe's RoboHelp product or just a document generated directly in Word?
If the latter, you are asking in the wrong place. Even if you are using RoboHelp, this looks more like a question to ask in the Acrobat forums.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 won't save scanned document in searchable PDF or .rtf format

HP Officejet Pro  8600 won't save scanned document in searchable PDF or .rtf format
The scanner scans the document without a problem but when I select 'SAVE' and
specify a location and file name, a system error 'The HP scan application was
unable to save the file to the specified location'.  It will save a regular PDF file
or a  JPG file with no problem, but trying to save an searchable PDF or .rtf file
results in the above mentioned system error.
This problem occurs either from HP SCAN or from the 8600 scan panel.
The computer is running Windows XP and the I.R.I.S. OCR software is
    loaded.

    Hello TrailsEnd,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving an error message "The HP scan application was unable to save the file to the specified location". I will do my best to assist you!
First, I would recommend downloading this tool called the Print and Scan Doctor. This tool diagnoses and helps resolve common printing, scanning, and connectivity problems, including: (This information is stated here.)
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test : Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check : Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager : Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online : Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue : Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match : Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts : Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues : Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings : Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print : Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests : Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
Let me know if this tool fixes a scanning problem on this post. If this doesn't resolve your issue, then I am going to recommend uninstalling the software. Please follow this HP document on Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once this is complete, you can perform a clean boot on your computer. I will provide a Microsoft document here to help you. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program. Now, you can install the full feature software from the HP website here.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!

I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week, Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.
The file name has no special character in it, just letters and no spaces.
I have done this in the past and it has worked, but now it will not.
I have not upgraded any software, that I am aware of.
After scanning, the Image Capture pops up the Scan Results with the file name in the window, but neither the Scan Results nor the Image Capture window responds to inputs.  The Image Capture window is frozen, with only the "Overview" and "Cancel" buttons active (but non-responsive).
Is this a software issue or a scanner hardware issue?  I am using a HP Photosmart C6200 series printer/scanner on a network using a Time Capsule airport.
    Thanks.

    I had the same problem.
Got a 90% fix.  Apparently the Mavericks preferences won't work with Yosemite, so I just deleted the Image Capture preferences.
Unfortunately, the "Scan to" folder seems to be permanently set to the Pictures folder.
    1.  Quit Image Capture
    2.  Go to Finder > Go > Home, which opens up your home folder (named after your user name)
    3.  Open Library > Preferences > com.apple.ImageCapture.plist - Drag this file to the Trash
    4.  Start "Image Capture", click "Details" and change all your settings as you prefer
    5.  Quit and restart "Image Capture".   Notice it remembers all your settings except "Scan to" folder.  It insists on saving to "Pictures".
That's as far as I was successful.  I tried changing the "Scan to" folder to "Desktop", but on launch, Image Capture always sets it back to "Pictures".
    This is what I tried:
    6.  Download and install "Pref Setter" from http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html
    7.  Quit "Image Capture".  Right-click on "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist" and open with Pref Setter.
    8.  Search for "Pictures", which finds "~/Pictures" (the tilde character at the start means your home directory).
    9.  Double-click on "~/Pictures" and change it to the folder you prefer.  I like "~/Desktop"
    10. Choose File > Save then Quit from Pref Setter.  Note that re-opening the plist file still shows "~/Desktop"
    11. Start up "Image Capture" -- on startup, "Image Capture" sets "Scan to" folder to "Pictures"
    I consider this a bug.

  • Acrobat 9.4.1 won't save scanned document - occasionally

After scanning a document into Acrobat 9.4.1, I can not save the document.  Pressing Save or Save As does not bring up a save diaglog box.  Some times this works just fine, other time it does not work at all.  This is on a Win 7 64 bit machine.

When I open PDF documents in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.2, the "Save" option is grayed out.
    Did you change the document?

  • Acrobat won't save any more links in a PDF. Why?

I am adding links to a PDF file. I have done several, including the index of the file. Acrobat won't save any more though. Why?

    Sara,
The Save As allows me to save the changes, but the regular save will still not function. I seem to recall a similar issue with the last version of this document, with a similar number of links.

  • CS2 won't save jpg since LR2.7 has been installed

    Hi folks,
A few weeks ago I purchased LR 2.7 (and don't regret it for a minute!). Since then my CS2 has developed some funny habits, though, and won't save any  photos as jpg that have first been worked on in LR. The error I get is "Cannot save due to program error". I assume that CS2 (antiques, I know...) is not really compatible with LR 2.7. But at the moment I have to make do with exporting first from LR and then opening it again in CS2 if I need to go on there. Everything works fine that far but after all the work I put into the thing CS2 just won't play. No problem saving as psd file. And I have created a 'workaround' to save my efforts after all, pasting it into a new document in CS2. No problem saving then. But it seems rather strange to me.
I work with an XP PC with loads of space & an external harddisk, a dual core quad processor and 4GB RAM. The original photos are taken in RAW.
Anybody who can give me an idea why my CS2 is having these fits of jealousy since it got competition from LR?
    Thanks and grts

    Hi Victoria,
Thanks for the very prompt reply!
And yes, I indeed did use the adjustment brush in all the obstinate cases. I
think that I'll go for Jeffrey's for the time being and wait for my purse to
fatten up a bit to get the CS upgrade which I was planning anyway. Thanks a
    lot for your help

I'll bet you've used the adjustment brush or graduated filter?  There's a
CS2 bug that falls over that perfectly legitimate metadata.  Your options
    are:
    >
        •    Upgrade to CS3 or later.  (While we’re on the subject of CS2 and
upgrades, CS5 is the last upgrade that CS2 users can buy at an upgrade
price.  Once CS6 is available, CS2 users will have to pay the full price to
upgrade, as only the previous 3 releases qualify for the discounted upgrade
    pricing.)
        •    Check the ‘Minimize Embedded Metadata’ checkbox in the Lightroom
Export dialog, which will strip ALL of the metadata.  It solves the problem,
but leaves you short of any metadata in your files.
        •    Use Jeffrey’s Metadata Wrangler to strip just the problem metadata
from the file, which is by far the best option.
    >
To use Jeffrey’s Metadata Wrangler Export plug-in, you’ll first need to
download it and install the plug-in from
    http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/metadata-wrangler
    >
Select the plug-in in the lower left of the Export dialog, and you’ll see
the additional section appear in the main Export options panel — scroll down
    if you can’t see them.
    >
The only part you need to remove is the ‘crs’ block -– all of the rest of
the metadata can stay.  The ‘crs’ block is the Camera Raw Settings metadata,
better known as the Develop settings, and photos exported with that block
removed will quite happily save as a JPEG, even with Photoshop CS2.

  • InDesign CC for Mac won't save file

I've been using InDesign CC and working on a document for over a month. Been saving it in Creative Cloud. Have had no problem opening it, making changes and then saving it. Today I opened, made changes and the file will not save. I've tried saving it down and opening in Indesign 6 and it still won't save. I also cleared InDesign preferences and reinstalled InDesign. Still won't save when I open it up. The strange part is I'm able to open on another computer through Creative Cloud and am able to work on it and save back to Creative Cloud. No matter what I do I can't open and then save on the original computer.

Finally discovered the problem. It was a PDF of an ad I received from an agency. Once I took it out of the document I was able to save as usual. Thanks for your help!

  • TS3147 Lion - Canon all in one won't save scans

I recently upgrded to Lion but my Can MP600 all-in-one cannot now save a scan.
I have downloaded the latest drivers, deleted and reinstalled the device but it won't save a scan.
    Any suggestions?
    Richard

I normally click a desk top icon called MP Navigator 3 and then click 'One Click' and 'Save as PDF File'. The software then shows calibration, follwed by Screening and finally 1 document copied.
But when I press Exit (which used to comple the process allowing me to save the scan to my iMac) I get the following - Unable to save file. The system cannot find the path selected.
Not sure what to do now - any further thoughts would be helpful.
    Thanks, Richard
