Does 10.4.9 generates superdrive errors? burning/strange vibrating sound..?

I don't use much my G5's superdrive but lately it is causing me problems, When a disc is inserted, it makes like a vibrating noise... like if it doesnt spin properly. Despite of these random noises, it reads any disc very well. I have however problems on burning, I Have tried several type of CD-R without success... When I want to burn via Itunes, the software stays stuck on the first track needed to be burnt. If I cancel and eject the disc, I can see that the burn process didnt start at all on the CD... All these seems to happen since the update to 10.4.9. Did anyone notice the same issue? and if yes, did you solve and how? or maybe it is more like an unlucky isolate hardware problem? Thanks for your help !!!

Hi
See Mac OS 10.4 Help
And Mac OS 10.3 Help
You need Tiger if you want to burn DL Media using the Finder, otherwise you'll need to invest in Roxio's Toast.

    As of recently, without an up to now identifiable reason, wikid is failing to start. In system.log I see thousands of loglines per every few minutes, but I can't find what the real cause of the issue is or how to solve it. Does anybody have any idea?

    Curious thing is that in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.wikid.plist I see:
    <plist version="1.0">

            <true/>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    Which I interpret as 'wikid is disabled', but then how come it's trying to start....

    Hey Everyone - a quick update. A very helpful friend gave me a hand figuring this out turns out the wikid process was failing because of a blog plist file. Replacing the metadata.plist files for all the users (whom had blogs in the collab data store) along with all the metadata.plist files for the groups as well got the service back up and running. When I say replace, I mean we renamed them all metadataplist.old and the system rebuilt the files and then loaded up without crashing.
    I'll try and better document this whole issue (with more research into the cause) and update this for anyone facing this in the future.

    Patch has been given for 11i But not r12. I m getting the same issue in r12.
    Can you please tell me if there is any patch available for r12 too.
    Thanks

    Try downloading the trial. It ought to detect that you have a 64-bit system.
    You aren't using Vista, are you? PSE 13 requires at least win 7 and I think a few folks with vista have gotten a similar error message on trying to install it.

  • Why does WFM_DB_Transfer generate an error 10803 after functioning well for a few iterations?

    I am outputing a waveform via the WFM_DB_Transfer function, and it functions fine for about the first fifty or so buffers. However afterwards it generates the error 10803. This happened when I had the oldDataStop set to 1 in the WFM_DB_Config. My situation is that I am trying to simulatenously acquire data while trying to send data so I am using double buffered waveform generation on an AT-AO-10 board with double buffered data acquisition on a PCI-6071E board which both are synchronized through the RTSI bus using an external update clock. The thing is everything works except after about 50 or so iterations of buffers later the 10803 error pops up. Sometimes the iterations
    last up to 300 before coughing up the error 10803. I am using NI-DAQ 6.9.1.

    Take a look at this Knowledgebase entry. It may be related to your problem.

  • "Open Vi Reference" generates a Error 7

    Hello,
      I am getting "Error 7" from the "Open VI Reference" vi, the name of the vi is wired vi path input. The "Error 7" means that the vi cannot be found. So I went to "Tools ===> Options ===> Paths" and modified the Path so that Labview can find it. But for reasons I do not understand the vi I want to get a reference for cannot be found. So it leads me to beleive that the "Open vi Reference" does not use the path option to find a vi. Any ideas what is going on?
    Regards,
    Kaspar
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
      Thanks for getting back to me. I have attached a file fo the screenshot of the Block diagram. The "Open Vi Reference" is in the upper left hand corner, which generates a error when I have updated the path options to point to where the file exists.

  • Generate an error message that Adobe Reader 8 or later is required

    Afternoon all,
    I have created a form (in Acrobat 10 Pro) with a lot of scripts and we have determined that they do not all work as desired in Adobe Reader 7 and earlier.
    Is there a way to generate an error message if a user opens this form with Adobe 7 or earlier?
    We would like a message to pop up advising the user that Adobe 8 or later is required for this form.
    It does not have to lock them out or anything, we just want to advise them.
    Thanks much,
    Steve

    Thanks,
    This is how my bosses want this done. For one part, some of the functionality we are using just doesn't exist in Reader prior to version 8. For others, the users don't really have an option to go elsewhere.
    As for thescript, i am not sure how to apply it. Where do i access the initial page's open event?
    I do know how to enter document level scripts (this form has several) but what does "outside of a function definition" mean and how do i do that?
    Thanks everyone,
    steve

  • Generated servlet error: method is undefined for type

    Hi,
    I keep getting the following error when I attempt to run my JSP:
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
    An error occurred at line: 12 in the jsp file: /jsp-examples/JSPandMySQL/loginuser.jsp
    Generated servlet error:
    The method getValidUser() is undefined for the type LoginDetails
    In my JSP file I have the code:
    <%
    boolean validName = login.getValidUser();
    if(validName == false) {
    out.println("Invalid Username");
    } else {
    out.println("Valid Username");
    %>
    and the method getValidUser(); is in a Java Bean that I have created and the code for that method is just :
    public boolean getValidUser() {
    return valid;
    I've tried searching the net for some answers but none of the solutions given work for mine, I would be grateful for any advice on how to solve this program.

    DId you import the class at the top of the jSP? Does the method exist? Is the class compiled properly?

  • Snort 2.9.5 may generate an error if local rules are enabled

    After installing SEU 913, which includes Snort 2.9.5, the following symptoms may appear in a Sourcefire deployment:
     The sensor may go down
     Unable to commit any changes to an IPS policy
     Health Alerts state that the IPS/IDS DE exited unexpectedly

    Solution
    In order to resolve this issue install SEU 915 or higher.
    Root Cause
    An issue has been identified with custom rules or Emerging Threat rules that can violate the Snort rule syntax. These rules can cause the Detection Engine to repeatedly restart. Sourcefire provided rules do not contain these syntax errors and will not cause this problem.
    Snort does rule validation upon start up.  With Snort 2.9.4, when a rule is determined invalid, then a warning is written to syslog. However, Snort will continue to load omitting that rule.  The Snort delivered in SEU 913 generates an error for invalid rules instead of a warning, which prevents Snort from loading.  With the release of SEU 915, we simply made Snort 2.9.5 behave the same way Snort 2.9.4 does, which is to display a warning for invalid rules, but continue to load.
    Invalid third party rule syntax is still an issue as SEU 915 will not correct them.  To make sure rules are valid you can simply open an IPS policy in the editor and save it, or manually apply the policy.  You will be notified if there are any invalid rules active in that policy.

  • IDvd Error Burning on Managed Computer

    I've looked all over the universe for an answer, please help! Students log in to my iMacs to edit digital video. They are on a managed network (workgroup manager) so I can limit what apps they can use. Anyway, if they create a dvd project and try to burn (all files are stored locally--the edited video from FC Express and the iDvd project file itself), it ejects the dvd and tells us "there was an error burning the dvd". If I log them out, log in as administrator, and create a new project in iDvd and import their finalized movie they made in Express, it burns awesome. What gives? I know it is related to permissions and stuff, but I am not finding a thing. I create local folders that the kids have rights to and we have tons of HD space.
    Thanks.
    Jeff

    By boot disk, do you mean that the idvd project has to be saved to the root of the mac hd?
    The iDVD project file doesn't need to be at the root level, but the version of iDVD doing the encoding/multiplexing needs to be operating at the root level. I guess this means you would have to do the actual encoding/multiplexing from your account.
    +++++++++
    I just found this: http://sweb.uky.edu/SystemsLabs/docs/idvd.html that says "Both iDVD and DVD Studio Pro use large amounts of scratch disk space to create temporary files needed to burn a DVD. These temporary files are created on the same volume as the project files, so if your files are stored in your account, the program may be unable to burn your disk."
    These temporary files are created on the same volume as the project files is a little different than I understood, please read the article and please let me know if it helps.

  • Why does idisc quit unexpectedly when trying to burn a disk?

    Why does idisc quit unexpectedly when trying to burn a disk?

    Since iDisk is an online service for keeping your data and has nothing to do with burning CDs or DVDs, you must be thinking of something else. What application are you using to burn? the Finder? iTunes? iDVD? Toast? Or something else?
    Is there an error message that appears when this occurs?
    Let us know, we'll keep working with you.

  • Final Cut Pro generated an error / unexpectedly Quit w/compressor & Qmaster

    Hello all I have Final Cut Studio 3. I am using the latest Final Cut and the latest compressor.
    I have a Core i7 so i am trying to use all 8 virtual threads or at least four. However when I use the "This Computer" option in compressor it is not an issue. It will compress fine. However, when i use the virtual cluster i set up with QMaster i get the dreaded "Final Cut Pro generated an error or unexpectedly" and it fails. I am unsure what to do. Here are the circumstances:
    When I to compressor from FCP and use "this computer" it is no problem.
    When I send to compressor from FCP and try to use your personalized cluster (taking advantage of those expensive cores!) it won't work. it fails and give me the aforementioned error.
    PS I know that I can make the file quick time self contained movie fm final cut and send it to compressor, but this program should work on it own without doing that.
    I have enclosed a video which can be seen at:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYfvPvKI1Uk
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyKsw8ii5Ig

    irtual Clustering works by launching multiple copies of the Compressor encoder, each of which needs access to the source media that you are compressing. This is fine if you are compressing from a source movie clip, as they can just open the file multiple times.
    But when you export from Final Cut Pro, FCP can only communicate with one copy of the encoder - it cannot launch multiple copies of itself. Consequently, you cannot export to a virtual cluster from the Send to Compressor command.
    A common misconception is that exporting to a QuickTime movie is slower. This is wrong - it is actually faster for two reasons - 1) it is faster to read the file directly than to request each frame from FCP and 2) you have access to virtual clustering. If your timeline is completely or partially rendered, deselect Make Self-Contained and the QuickTime export will be quicker.
    Another issue is that you are using up all of your virtual cores, leaving nothing left over for the operating system. There are varying schools of thought on how many to choose, ranging from the total number of cores minus one to half the number of cores (the latter being Apple's official suggestion). Also remember that each instance requires at least 1 GB of RAM, and remember to leave some extra for the OS and running applications.

  • Macintosh does not have a Supported Superdrive

    I have a 9 month old Macintosh IBook G4 using Mac OS 10.3.9
    I am trying to burn my first DVD using the IDVD program. When I open the IDVD program I get a message:
    Your Macintosh does not have a supported SuperDrive. Thus I can not burn a DVD.
    Get anyone give me some tips about what this means? Seams like I basically have a new Mac (within 1 year) so I should be able to burn DVDs some way.
    Thanks.
    John Ellis

    Some iBooks have a drive which will read and write CDs but only read DVDs. Check your specification either in the documentation or by pulling down the apple menu and clicking on about this mac and examining the hardware.

  • Superdrive not burning DVD's

    Well I tried to burn a DVD on my iMac(Intel) and I use iDVD all the time on my MacBook, but this is the first time that I have used it on my iMac(Intel) and it read a message "Your Macintosh does not have the supported Superdrive" and said that I can't burn a DVD. So I checked what kind of DVD Drive I had via "About This Mac", and it showed me I had the capability and that it was a superdrive not a combo drive. Also I thought all iMac's come standard with DVD burning. Is there something wrong with my Superdrive, or iDVD?????

    What are you calling an iDVD?  Is it a disk you formerly burned with iDVD?  Is it just a DVD-R or DVD+R you are trying to burn something on?    Starting July 20, 2011 Apple stopped including iDVD on Macs, and sold it separately as part of iLife '11 through the non-App Store.  Is that what you are missing and expecting to see come up when you enter a blank DVD?    Or are you missing iDVD because you might have an older version of it that used to run in Rosetta, and now doesn't because you are running 10.7 or later?  Or did you insert  blank DVD and the Finder didn't know what to do with it?

    Hi
    Most likely for these kind of issues its better you can  delete the hyper-v machine and create a new  os , ensure all the prerequisite are met and install the Exchange since this is a new installation.
    But as a try you can try giving full access to the admin account to the data folder  'C:\Program
    Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\HostController\Data'. which is giving the error and rerun the setup

    I keep getting this error in Dreamweaver when I am trying to upload my website?  Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?  here is the error message: /html - error occurred - Unable to create remote folder /html.  Access denied.  The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem.   Make sure you have proper authorization on the server and the server is properly configured.  File activity incomplete. 1 file(s) or folder(s) were not completed.  Files with errors: 1 /html

    Nobody can tell you anything without knowing exact site and server specs, but I would suspect that naming the folder "html" wasn't the brightest of ideas, since that's usually a default (invisible) folder name existing somewhere on the server and the user not having privileges to overwrite it.
