Does 10.5.3 update fix audio "popping?"

There's a pretty well documented issue with several computers with the sound card more or less going to sleep and causing pops in external speakers as well as delays in sounds while the card wakes up. Does anyone know if the latest osx update fixes this?

Well, I don't know about Sweden, but the "sound card goes to sleep and pops on wake" thing is well documented in these forums, and there are reports of people taking their computers in for repair several times (with no resolution) in the USA.
There was a similar issue around 10.4.10 that was quickly patched...why not this time (that has been going on literally for months)?
There is a freeware utility built for PPC computers from back around 10.1.x that is working on my Macintel computer -- Keepsoundawake. It plays an inaudible sound ever 20 seconds or so to prevent the sound card from going to sleep. I've got it as a login item, and it's working for me, but remember that this is old software that may not work for all users. It can be found on versiontracker at http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/13709&mode=feedback or macupdate at http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/9349/keepsoundawake.
As I said...it works for me, but YMMV.

OS 10.4.10 Update Causing Audio Popping (AND HUM) Issues:
The problem on my Intel Mac mini with external Klipsch speakers (two mid-range/high and a subwoofer) is REAL obvious as the system emits a hum like a Spinal Tap amplifier turned up to #11 when 10.4.10 powers down the audio circuitry
Then, if I play a song in iTunes, it first pops and the hum disappears right before playing.
Quite annoying. I restored the mini from a recent backup to 10.4.9. Problem gone.
I'm glad I test updates on the mini before applying them to my Intel iMac 24. I guess I'll just hide & watch what happens before doing any more updates.
Here's what I sent to Apple tech support:
    Guys/Gals (OS X Engineers):
Concerning the Snap, Crackle Pop Audio problem in the 10.4.10 update:
Please. Just do the right thing and fix the audio.
There is no need to power cycle the audio subsystem to save .0005 amps on the laptop line.
And then to make your Mac mini/iMac/other desktop users have to put up with it when using AC power is ridiculous.
Put the audio subsystem back like it was in 10.4.9 and let the laptop battery freaks looking for mini-amp savings get a "work-a-round".

    Libby,
Backup is unable to make a restorable by Disk Utility backup. You can restore pieces of the software as outlined in my FAQ about backing up user data:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
But to be able to restore a backup with Disk Utility, you need a cloning utility to have made the backup.
I suggest starting a new thread here, where someone else could help you out better:

First off, you'll get a wider audience who may be able to solve your problem. Secondly, responses to you won't confuse the original poster with solutions that don't apply to them. And thirdly, you'll know for certain whether or not a response applies to you.

  • Does the 4.01 upgrade fix audio problems caused by OS4 on the 3GS ?

I could no longer hear on my telephone without using the speakerphone after the OS4 upgrade. I did all the recommended fixes per Apple and nothing helped. All other audio is ok. My phone is 6 months old and was working perfectly before I did the upgrade.
Has anyone else had that specific problem ? and if so , does the 4.01 OS fix it ?

    This is not good!
I always used my headset for my iphone, and now I just hear some whispering from people calling. At first I thoughy my old headphones were broken and bougth some new. Now I realise that the problem is due to the upgrade to 4.01 that I did two days ago! (I did not upgrade for 4.0) This is too bad for Apple. I have always promoted Apple for beeing easy to handle, but no I really doubt it all. Upgrading my computer to Snow Leopard resulted in an unuseable printer (Lexmark Z600). Upgrading Iphone resulted in a telephone that is not possible to use like I did for the last year. What is happening? Will the bugs be fixed? Do the company representants really think we will buy new products from them after having a lot of trouble caused by upgrading? Is it possible to go back to the 3.13?

  • Does 1.01 software update fix the freezing Apple logo porblem?

Been on holiday since before this was released and therefore not hasd a chance to check. I have my iPod classic 160GB with me and it seems to be working sweetly with 4,000 tracks (30% of my library). This is the most I could ever sucessfully upload despite trying with 2 different models. I love the interface, even if it is slowish and the sound quality is good too. I don´t want to have to return another one, this time for a refund as will miss the good things about it.
I return from holiday on Sunday and would like to think that the freezing issue has been reslove via the firmware update (or iTunes 7.4.2) but cannot find any confirmation of this. A lot of the posters with this problem appear to have gone away. Does this mean it´s fixed?

    Hello !
I have a ipod classic 160gb, and i updated it to 1.0.1, but my itunes was 7.4.1 while synching. I have the apple-logo-freeze problem when i try to synch my whole library. The Update to 1.0.1 didn't change anything!
So far i found out my ipod is working with "almost" all playlist synchronized, it's just one playlist-folder i can't synch or it will freeze. But i already tried to synch that folder first without the other music, then it works flawless, but when filling it up with the rest, it freezes again, it's really annoying, i can't localize the problem at all. It seems like the ipod won't work with all the playlists on it. Well, trying now to update itunes and do the whole thing again... for about the 9th time

  • To clarify: does the Lumia 800 update fix the batt...

    Hi all
First time poster. I've been reading these boards for a week now trying to figure out, from the various posts and their many sub-pages, whether this update is
    a) available (UK)
    b) effective
My wife and I both like the Lumia 800 but are put off by the very concerning battery and sound issues. We are happy to get one provided we can be sure the recent fix is precisely that. We were looking at O2; has anyone on O2 got the update yet, and what are your findings?
Thanks in advance for any help
p.s. another option is to wait for the 900, but from what I've read the UK release date is simply stated as Q2. Is that the latest?

Well I'm on Vodafone UK; 12070 update appears to have significantly improved mattersfor me.. These days I ignore the 'estimated time remaining' figure, as it seems to be based on tour usage in an unspecified previous period so now merely provides mild interest. However the 'remaining battery life' definitely reduces noticeably more slowly.
Usage-wise, I use functions as I need them.. I don't need 24/7 web connection so turn Cellular or Wifi on as and when. While I'll turn Cellular off asap, I'll often leave Wifi on if I'm not leaving the zone. The phone is almost always turned on; I've never yet used flight mode. Listen to music in the car, but often hook up to a charger while doing this, as I would with any mobile.
I might charge every day, sometimes every couple of days.Depends how much I've been doing.
To put it in context, my netbook (Wifi always on) battery lasts 45 MINUTES  if I'm lucky!
I like it, anyway.. 12070 has definitely enhanced my experience :-)
I also got the latest version of Drive, and while I still don't really 'do' satnav it seems to be improving by degrees. Satnav regulars have other threads going on that one I think.

  • Does the latest security update to Safari effect OSX v10.6.8?

Does the latest security update (Fix issued 25/02/14) to Safari not effect Mac OSX v10.6.8 Snow Leopard? Software update has not flagged it up in Snow leopard, so presumably it is only Lion & Mavericks that had the flaw.

    Correct!

  • Update FCP Audio

When I export an audio file from FCP to Soundtrack, edit it, then save it, why is it that it creates a separate audio file. Why does it not just update the audio file that's attached to the video clip?

    G5 Dual 2Ghz w/ 2GRAM

Does this have to do with how I save the Soundtrack Pro document? I selected include source audio, but now I'm thinking that wasn't the right choice. The manual just says to save. Now that I've selected include source audio I can't change it back. What do I do?
    Thanks,

  • Audio Pop Removal

I've searched this site and others and have found general info in fixing audio pops but can anyone point me to an exact tutorial for removing audio pops from a wireless mic that wasn't working so well?
I did use the Analyze in Soundtrack Pro and Fix All but it didn't fix them.

It was an older mic,not sure of specs but it has been replaced. Is the basic idea to fix pops is to just remove that piece of audio?

  • When you sent your Macbook for service, did Apple fix the audio pop issue?

I'm experiencing the intermittent audio "pop" problem in my Santa Rose Macbook running 10.5.1. (There are numerous posts on this topic in this forum and elsewhere.)
I'm wondering if this can remedied by a a trip to the Apple repair shop.
For those who have experienced this problem, and who have sent their Macbooks back for repair -- was Apple able to solve the issue? Or is it unlikely to be remedied hardware, and instead be patched with a firmware fix via software update?

  • Did 2.1 update fix the Bose SoundDock Portable Audio Problem?

I hadn't tried docking my iPhone 3G in my Bose SoundDock Portable speakers for some time because of the commonly discussed audio 'popping' problem (at least commonly discussed back in July).
So when I put my iPhone 3G in the dock tonight I was happily surprised by perfectly clean audio (after an hour of listening anyway). My assumption is that the 2.1 update fixed this (an old post suggested that Bose had said that a future software update from Apple would solve the problem). My two questions are:
    1) Can anyone else validate that the 'popping' problem has disappeared and/or that the fix was the 2.1 update? I searched everything I could find on benefits of 2.1, but this unsurprisingly was not mentioned anywhere.
    2) Can charging on the SoundDock be hard on the iPod's/iPhone's battery life?
    Sincerely,
    Steven
    <Edited by Moderator>

Before the iPhone software update 2.1, my iPhone would every 3.39 seconds maka a popping sound, the screen would flash on, the music would fade then things would return to normal. I talked with Bose technical support several times about this and they said that they were working with apple to fix the problem. The problem was, that apple stoped using 12v firewire pins to charge the iphone and switched to 5v usb pins. However with the iPhone 2.1 update my iPhone was worked flawlessly in the Bose Sounddock Portable with absolutly no interferience at all. I did talk to apple about the affect of charging the iPhone in the Sounddock and they said that it would have no affect on it at all.
    Thanks,
    Eric

my iphone 5 wont let me update apps keeps popping up with old apple id how do i fix this??

All apps downloaded/purchased are tied to the apple ID used to download/purchase them.
If you change your Apple ID and do not wish to use the old apple ID and password to update them, you have to delete them and redownload or buy them under the new apple ID.

If you're having problems with the App Store you might try this:
1 - enable the Debug menu in App Store:
    open the Terminal application.
copy the command below and paste into the Terminal window:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
    followed by Enter.
    launch App Store, login.
2 - select the Debug ➙ Reset Application option:
    3 - try again.

There are literally thosands of apps that access the iOS Photo Library - which one(s) are you using?
