Does 3G on standby drain the battery much more than Edge does?

I know an always-on Wi-Fi signal can impact battery life significantly but is it the same with a 3G signal? I'd like to leave it on during the day for quick access.

"Turn off 3G: Using 3G cellular networks loads data faster, but may also decrease battery life, especially in areas with limited 3G coverage. To disable 3G, from the Home screen choose Settings > General > Network and set Enable 3G to Off. You will still be able to make and receive calls and access cellular data networks via EDGE or GPRS where available."

Wow. I have not seen that question nor a discussion. I agree with James. I don't think it will, and if the power drain is different, maybe it'll be less and not more.
With a 10 hour battery, you have plenty of time to test it and see. If the battery depletes fast, just go back to the other way.
If you do try it, let us know what you discover.
    Thanks ! !

My iPad 2 won't start even if I already went through pressing the home and start buttons simultaneously. I also tried charging the batteries for more than 30 minutes (done this procedure twice) but it won't still power on. What should I do next? Could it be a hardware issue then?

  • Does 4G drain the battery more than 3G with the iPhone 5?

Hi im due an upgrade and im thinking about getting 4G, but does it drain the battery more than it does with 3G with the iPhone 5?

the phone can handle it or else it wouldn't be supported. it can also handle LTE which is even faster than 4G in most cases

  • Does leaving the bluetooth on all the time drain the battery?

Does leaving the bluetooth on all the time drain the battery?

In my experience, the impact is minimal, especially on something like an iPhone 5S. Mine is on all of the time because I use it all of the time, mostly for my Pebble Smartwatch but also for headsets and speakers.
    Best of luck.

  • Does turning the LTE feature drain the battery life and battery lifespan?

Does turning on the LTE feature drain the battery life and lifespan of the iphone 5S. Also checking emails and going on the internet drains the lifespan of the battery?

    yes
    wifi and bluetooth does too
batteries lifespan is being zapped when used and also when not used
it will get worse and worse and in the end it will stop working

  • Does it drain the battery to charge before completely empty?

Does it drain the battery to charge before completely empty?

No, actually draining the battery completely is worse for it. Batteries will only charge to what they need. You can see this for more answers. http://www.apple.com/batteries/

  • What is the normal amount of GB of Other Space for a new 32 GB Ipod touch 5 Generation with iOS 6.1.3? Also, will iOS 7 slow down/drain the battery of my device?

My Other storage space was at 2.84 GB after i loaded all my music/apps onto a recently purchased 32 GB Ipod touch 5 Generation with iOS 6.1.3.  Resetting the settings and removing the music and apps did not help reduce the Other space.  I restored to a backup and got my Other storage space down to almost 400 MB.  When I started syncing music it grew 500-ish MB.  Each time I sync, the Other grows a bit more.  This is really irritating.
The official listed available GB on my 32 GB is 28.22 GB (not including Other), so now I am irritated knowing that this Other is taking up my space when I didn't even have 32 GB of free space to begin with. So 28.22 - 2.84GB = 25.38 GB.
I want to restore to a new device to see if that helps, but do not want to upgrade to i0S7.  Is there any way to do this?
If I upgrade to i0S 7 I am worried it might slow my ipod or drain the battery faster.  Will it do that?  The ipod is expensive and I dont want it to go downhill and obsolete on me because it can't handle a better operating system.

Less than 1 1/5 GB is normal. It does grow with time.

  • My iPod was updating to iOS 6 and i shut it off during the update because it was taking too long and now my screen in baby blue i've tried to drain the battery but when i plugged it in to charge the blue screen came back on.I dont know what to do

My iPod was updating to iOS 6 and i shut it off during the update because it was taking too long and now my screen in baby blue i've tried to drain the battery but when i plugged it in to charge the blue screen came back on.I dont know what to do

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 4th gen shuffle draining the battery

Is there any issues with a 4th gen shuffle draining the battery even when the switch is in the off position?  The iPod charges fine, it just does not shut off and I have to plug in immediately after I use it or there is not a charge remaining.

I haven't heard of any such issues.

  • IPod drains the battery when in sleep 24hrs...how do I fix this

My iPod works fine when it is charged and is not even a year old. When I shut the iPod off(press and hold play) the battery is full but the next day, the iPod will not turn on unless it is plugged in cuz the battery is dead. Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong or how to fix it?

Nope, none of those things. I don't know what the deal was. I've accidentally left it connected overnight a whole bunch more times, and it's never drained the battery since-just that one time. No clue what happened.

  • Draining the battery  -beneficial or not?

I hear mixed opinions on whether draining down your battery until the phone dies, then charging it fully is beneficial or not? I know the battery is lithium which they don't have memory, so why would it help. Does anyone truly know for sure?
The reason I ask is after I updated last night to 3.13, my battery seems to be diminishing quicker than normal.

APPLE says to drain the battery at least monthly. I would tend to trust Apple.
    I found this.
"Lithium-ion polymer batteries need to be used for maximum performance. _If you don’t use your device often_, be sure to complete a charge cycle at least once a month."
You can also recharge a lithium-ion polymer battery whenever convenient, _without the full charge or discharge cycle necessary_ to keep nickel-based batteries at peak performance.
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/
And this, you may be right.
"Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down)."
