Does 875P Neo MB support 250gb SATA2 HDD??

i have a 875P Neo Motherboard and i want to install a SATA2 250Gb hard drive
and i wonder if it could support a single HDD with this size!!
second it only supports SATA1. would a SATA2 drive work without problem??
would this require update of the BIOS ??
and what is the maximum supported size of any HDD??
plz reply as fast as possible coz i've already ordered the HDD but if it is not supported i have to change that order
THANKS in advance

thanks for your great help
i have a couple of questions to make things clear for me
1- the board does not support SATA II. would it work at this size without problem?? (I understand that it will work only at 150mb/s but my fear that it wouldn't be seen by the board or freeze the system or so).
2- Would it work OK with an IDE HDD connected??
thanks
the rest of my configurations is:
-P4 3Gb 1mb cache processor
-Dual channel spectek 2x256mb RAM
-80gb maxtor +120gb WD IDE HDD.
-Geforce 5200FX 128mb MSI graphic card.
-Creative SBlive 5.1 sound card.
-Twinhan Visionplus 1020a PCI digital TV card.
-ASUS CD-RW 52-24-52 drive.
-Gigabyte DVD-Rom 16x

  • MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R support booting from USB devices?

I am building a super computer using the MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R. I would like to either get a USB pen drive, or an external Floppy Disk Drive in place of an internal Floppy Disk Drive.
Does anyone know if this board supports booting from a USB device?

I ordered my board as well, however, they were out of stock and it may be as long as 2 weeks before they get more in. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get yours from? I am VERY much excited about getting this board as I only await the MB and CPU. What all are you putting in yours??
    Mine:
    MB-   Obvious
    CPU-  2.4 800Mhz
RAM-  2 sticks, 256 PC 3200 XMS Corsair using dual channel, at first I think I will use the 512 pc3200 I already have though.
HDD-  80GIG W/D 7200 RPM ( May get another to run RAID 0)
    VGU-  Chaintech TI4200 at 8x w/ 128 DDR
    CD#1- 52x cd rom
    CD#2- dvd 16x, cdr 48 cdrw24 cdrom 48
    500W raidmax Pwr Sup
    Koolcases Panther case w/ window and 3 80MM/ 1 60MM fans
For now I will even use the old 3.5 A drive. Just in case.
    Red light internaly
Digidoc 5 for thermal monitoring on:
1.cpu  2.ram  3.VGU 4.case 5.HDD 6.other ram 7.chipset 8.dvd for curiousity sake. just curious of the temps they produce. but always able to move it to a more vital area if the need arises.
Will be upgrading to liquid cooling in the future, that way when I am deployed the temps stay in the blue. (HOPEFULLY)

  • [875P Neo Series PCB 2.0] HDD LED & ATA133 support

    Hi
I am using the MSI 875P NEO2-FIS2R (MSI 6758) PCB 1.0 and, as most user's know, the HDD LED does not function when S-ATA HDD's are connected to any of the S-ATA ports or when the drives are connected to IDE 3.  (I.e. the LED only works when HDD's are connected to IDE1 or IDE2).
Can anyone tell me for sure, if MSI have resolved the HDD LED problem on MSI 875P NEO2-FIS2R (MSI 6758) PCB 2.0?
Also, I have just bought two Maxtor 250GB P-ATA133 drives and, if I'm not mistaken, there is no Promise Controller on PCB 2.0.  So does that mean my drives will only operate at UDMA 5 instead of UDMA 6?
And lastly, what are the differences between PCB 1.0 and PCB 2.0?
    Regards
    Brave01Heart

    Hi Danny & Thunder
    Many thanks for your responses.
Danny:  Yes, I understand what you are saying about the transfer rates but despite that, provided my Maxtor ATA133 drives (with a 16MB cache) were connected to IDE3 on a PCB 1.0 board, they would be detected as ATA133 drives and UDMA6 would still be shown during POST and also in Device Manager.
    # Perhaps you would like to comment on my questions for Thunder?
Thunder:  It's nice to know that the HDD LED is now working for S-ATA connected drives on PCB 2.0 of the MSI 875P board, but am I correct in saying that there is no support for ATA133 drives on the PCB 2.0 board?
If your answer is no, then with the primary/secondary IDE1 & IDE2 ports being ATA100, why on earth have MSI removed the IDE3 port on PCB 2.0 version, thus removing all support for ATA133 drives?
    That seems crazy to me!
I was going to buy the MSI 875P PCB 2.0 board but if version 2 no longer offers any ATA133 support for my drives, then I may as well stick with PCB 1.0.

  • **Does the neo platinum support registered memory?**

Here is the RAM i bought (and have now RMA'd to newegg) http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-470&depa=0 here is my problem !HELP! Comp wont post!
is it because my RAM is registered that my comp wont post with it installed?

I hate to sound like a customer service rep of NewEgg, but according to their policy FAQ,
"May I exchange my RMA'd item for a different product?"
"No. We do not exchange RMA items for different items. We replace an item only with the exact same item type. If the warranty period for a refund has not been exceeded, an RMA request for refund can be placed online and then the new item can be purchased (also online) and the RMA item will be refunded when received. You may view this as an exchange. "
I order stuff from them, so I thought I'd seen this comment earlier.
If they don't let you get a different memory module, what you might want to try is placing the memory online on Ebay, and selling below the market price by 5%-10%.  Make sure you say "New" on the ad.  You will obviously lose a little money, but better that than have useless memory.

  • Overclocking an MSI 875P Neo-LSR Bios 2.2

    Here is my configuration :

HDD : 120 Gb Maxtor 8Mb cache + 40 Gb Western Digital 2 Mb cache
    CPU Fan : Zalman CNPS-7000AlCu
Yesterday i tried to use CoreCenter and went to 215MHz (3.6 Ghz i think) with no hitch.
Now my question is with this configuration what can i reach and what to use (CoreCenter or Bios) ?
And which OC for the memory ??

I think use bios is better because of more flexibility. You can go up to about 3.5GHz.

  • Does Satellite A100-667 supports SATA2 HDD

    Hello,
I have got a Toshiba Satellite A100-667 PSARRE and I should know if it supports a new HD by 250 GB 7200rpm SATA2 (or SATA/300).
I don't know if it supports SATA 2. Someone can help me please.
    Tnx

As far as I know for this older notebook model you cannot use SATA2 HDDs. About capacity Toshiba doesnt offer any concrete info but I can imagine this notebook will be able to handle with 250 GB HDD.
Try it! I don't know where you live but if there is some compatibility problem you can send the HDD back. Just ask how many time you have to send the product back.

  • My 875P Neo won't light HDD LED if using SATA

I just purchased and built a new system with an MSI 875P Neo and Pentium 4 3Ghz CPU. Everything went fairly smooth except the HDD LED does not work with my SATA drives.
I tried everything. Took it back to my dealer and he tried a new board with the same results. Then we grabbed an ATA drive and hooked it up and the LED started flashing. As soon as we used a SATA drive it stopped working.
I'm using two Maxtor SATA 120 drives configured as RAID 0 on the Intel controller. Is this a problem with the controller, the BIOS or what. Is anyone else having this problem?
BTW, I did flash the 1.8 BIOS before taking it in to my dealer.
    Frustrated....

    Thanks...
At least I can stop pulling my hair out. I wish it had said something somewhere  on the box or in the manual or even on the MSI site, that it didn't support the HDD LED. I wasted a huge amount of time trying to figure out why it didn't work. It seems like a dumb ommission to not support the LED. I thought SATA was a step forward. I hate losing the LED feature. Does anyone know if this will this be something that will be added in a future flash update or I'm I SOL? Do other board manufactures support the LED? If not then I guess I'll have to accept it. Thanks for the help.

  • P965 NEO & SATA2 HDD detected as IDE

I can't run my IDE DVD-RW drive in DMA mode, it seems to be a common problem with P965 NEO mainboard. At the moment I can live with it, I've tried different JMicron drivers without success. I use BIOS v1.5, maybe I should try the new v1.6.
Recently I changed the HDD (Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320Gb SATA2) to one of the Intel ICH8 SATA ports. It used to be connected to the JMicron SATA port and detected as a SCSI drive. Now it is detected as a IDE drive by both the BIOS and Windows xp device manager. There are 3 x Primary IDE Channel and 3 x Secondary IDE Channel in the device manager even though there's only 1 SATA2 HDD and 1 optical IDE drive connected. The HDD runs in UDMA5 mode but the DVD is still in PIO mode. Now the HDD S.M.A.R.T function works (it didn't work before when connected to JMicron SATA) so I would like to keep it this way.
My question is how should the SATA2 drive be detected? I get around 135 Mb/s burst speed in HD Tach, does the "IDE mode" slow the disk down?

Yes you need bios 1.6 to fix the problem.

  • Does the MSI P965 Neo-F support ECC memory?

    Can it handle 2x 1 GB DDR2 ELPIDA PC2-5300, 667 MHz, ECC
Does the MSI P965 Neo-F support ECC memory?

As mentioned by many, No ECC RAMs support.
To me, I feel that current state of art DDR II RAMs are good enough to not produced much errors and HDDs have error buffer memory of up to 16MB, so ECC makes me feels that it is a "good to have but not a must" thing nowdays.

  • How much phases power supply does the 875P Neo FIS2R got ??

How much phases power supply does the 875P Neo FIS2R got  ?(
And will it be enough for the Prescott  ?(

Prescott will be made on a 0.09u process so it should use less power per MHz, I wouldn't worry about that.
According to what I see it has 6 power regulators which usually means 3 phase.

  • K8N Neo Platinum (NForce3 250GB) and SATA2?

    Hi!
I have MSI K8N Neo Platinum with chipset NForce3 250GB. It has SATA Controller. Can someone tell me (with certainty), if I can install a SATA 2 drive? (Once I contacted Maxtor, they told me that I would rather not install a SATA2 drive in a NForce3 250GB based mobo) Has anyone had a problem with a SATA2 drive in this mobo?
    my pc is:
    AMD 64 3000+
    MSI K8N Neo Platinum
    2*512MB Kingston DDR400
    200GB SATA SEAGATE
    320GB SATA WD
    Thanks in advance!

Figures , as Maxtor is the vendor that has problems with their sataII DiamondMax drives on nforce3/4 buildt in sata controllers.
    However , Hitachi T7K250 250GB SATA2 is one that works flawlessly on nforce3 .
They are also set to sataI from manufacturer .

  • Does Tecra A7-248 support HDD viewing?

    Hello all.
I'm going to buy a laptop in next 1-2 week but I can't choose that Satellite A100-912 or Tecra A7-248.
Would you advice one of them and does Tecra A7-248 support HDD viewing?

yes i mean the notebook with HD DVD-ROM which is able to play HD DVDs. For example A100-912 has "HD to go" logo screen's top of right corner. You can see it from this link http://notebook.cz/clanky/recenze-notebook/2006/toshiba-satellite-a100-912/20_s.jpg

  • Does the K8N Neo-FSR support the mobile chip out of the box

    just like the titles says
does the K8N Neo-FSR support the mobile clawhammer out of the box.?
if not what bios would i need,. or can anyone confirm what bios is being shipped on these motheboards now.

    Jim,
From what I've read, there are updates to the memory controller and the addition of SSE3 support to Venice.  It's also reported to have some performance improvement over Winchester and Newcastle.  It will use a default 1.4v VCore.  Hopefully, It's power comsumption is on the same order as the 90nm Winchester's or less.
If Monarch is shipping the combo with available Bios, you can bet they work.  I'm thinking of giving them a call on mine to transfer the 2yr warranty to my youngest daughter (it's a graduation gift) and to discuss the Bios 3.3 vs. 3.3B3 issues.   They shipped mine with B3, and I think there may be a reason.  The B3 works great with a simple WPCRSET patch of the CAS to RAS Delay.  That's why you see those memory settings working on mine.
On the "boxed" vs. OEM, I think buying the combo with warranty and a better heatsink is a much better choice.  Use the Venus 7+ in my specs.  It's low profile, all copper, and one of the highest rated.  Monarch has it in their configurator.  It's as quiet as AMD's.  Monarch also gives you a 30 day free return with a Fedex prepaid shipping label in the package.

Does Cisco Prime Infrastructure supports monitoring CPU,Memory, HDD for UCS , VMWare?

Prime Infrastructure/ Assurance is  positioned today more towards managing network elements and network performance,  rather than server infrastructure. We are in the process of adding Datacenter  component support, with more focus on Nexus and UCS- due later this  year.
Having said that, Prime Infrastructure allows the system user to  add custom SNMP polling templates, which can then be used for polling any SNMP  based values from any SNMP enabled device. These can be used to collect the  information you specified below and the polled information will be available in  dashboards and reports.
