Does SQL Developer Data Modeler fit-in??
Hi Everyone,
Wish you happy new year 2011.
Does SQL Developer Data Modeler support conceptual, logical and physical in our modeling or only logical and physical?
We all use Erwin for modeling. Erwin works without database repository storing models in desktop folders and provide additional reporting. I find some place SQL Developer Data Modeler talked about repository need.
Does SQL Developer Data Modeler store the models in local/network folders instead of Database server?
What are the functions need database based repository to work with SQL Developer Data Modeler?
We are thinking of using SQL Developer Data Modeler for our conceptual, Logical, and data dictionary need. Will it help in our need?
Do we need to face any surprises on using SQL Developer Data Modeler for our need?
Thanks in sharing your experience and helping me out.
RI1) Do we need to have Oracle database at back end to work with SQL Developer Data Modeler? No, Data Modeler use Oracle database only if you create reporting repository.
Data Modeler is free, you need database license only if you want to log service request
2) Will SQL Developer Data Modeler create any tables (as backend repository ) in Oracle database to store Model details? no
3) Do we need to create reporting schema in backend oracle database to generate reports of SQL Developer Data Modeler's items such as Entity/attributes etc?no, reports can be created out of current loaded design. However having reporting repository will give you additional benefits - history (reports can be generated for every snapshot of your designs there) and multi-user usage, you can create your own reports
4) Do we to use SQL Developer Data Modeler reverse engineer from DB2, SqlServer, Terra data etc?Data Modeler has full support for Oracle, DB2/390, DB2/UDB(LUW) and MS SQL Server. Reverse engineering from other databases (including Terra Data) is at generic JDBC level - you'll get some and some will be missing (no check constraints for example).

Viewset does not have data passed from GenIL
Hi All,
We have a custom component in which data is not getting passed from a ViewSet to the Overview page. The details of the issue are given below:
There is a detail view zsoEF and a table view zsoChild. These 2 views are housed in a viewset zsoVS. This view set has an event Eh_OnBack which requires the data from views zsoEF and zsoChild to be passed to overview view zsoOV.
We recently upgraded to CRM 7.0. After the upgrade, the values entered on the views zsoEF and zsoChild are processed in the ZGenIL. The context nodes and the custom controllers are filled correctly with the screen values and some auto added data based on validations..
When we click on the Back button, then Eh_OnBack does not have data in the Custom Controller. I am not able to pin point the reason for this missing data in the Back event. From the way i understand, when we do data binding in the views, we don't have to do that in ViewSet. Has there been any change in this design in CRM 7.0?
I would like to know if there is any workaround for this issue.
Thanks,
RiniHi Rini,
Did you try to bind the context nodes with the component controller. Can give it a try whether it resolves the problem. Any way it is difficult to say anything as we don't have an idea what exactly you did in the component. Lets take it forward. In the mean time have a look in the below link.

Does xcelsius access data model in MS sql server 2000
have the following scenario: I need to create a dashboard which will be accessed through a Microsoft Office SharePoint server portal. This dashboard will be used for analysis of Agencies and Underwriters; they should be able to drill down to policy level details.
The data will originate from a Data Warehouse (Relational Schema) which resides on a Microsoft SQL server 2000 platform.
Q) Does Xcelsius work off a relational model or does the data model need to be converted to a Dimensional Star schema? Do you have to create Cubes?
A)
Q) It was mentioned in the book that Xcelsius can connect to a Microsoft SharePoint server using web part, however there is no information in the help menu to do that task?
A)
My thought) I was also thinking that the data model build on MS SQL SERVER 2000 can be used to create a Universe, which then can link to Live Office using Query as a Web Service (QAAWS) and used to build Xcelsius model. (Does one have to go this route, or can one access the data model created on SQL SERVER 2000?)
Any Feedback)I need to create a dashboard which will be accessed through a Microsoft Office SharePoint server portal.
A) Xcelsius works on an X/Y (Column/Row) table model, strictly based on the Excel structure. Though the underlying data model is a table, it is not inherently relational as it does not impose any BC Normal Form requirements.
Xcelsius works primarily with data embedded in an integrated Excel workbook. Data can be input to the workbook by a variety of methods, from importing a premade Excel workbook into the the model to retrieving data from flat files (.txt, .xml, .etc) to getting data from a connection such as a WebService.
There is no capability to connect directly, 1:1, to a database source and execute SQL queries. An intermediary is required to retrieve data from a database, such as a WebService or an XML Data connection. -
Newly registered user doesn't have Data Model or Report Creation option
Hi,
I have recently registered in http://bipdev2.us.oracle.com:7001/xmlpserver
Except Create Report Job option, i do not have Create Data Model and Create Report options visible in my Home page.
In My Account-> My Groups, in which i have BI Consumer Role assigned.
Do i need to have a BI Administrator Role (or) BI Author Role to have these options enabled in my Home page?.
or What is the procedure to request for access
Any help regarding the same is highly appreciated.
Thanks
ParvezHi,
for the first part where you don't access I would suggest you do an authorization trace to ensure that the user has all the necessary authorizations.
and on the second part - yes the user needs to have credentials for the system that you trying to access

When I open my Bible +1 App the following appears - extremely too brief to read once - "you have data to Sync, go to TOC and press Sync.." on my iPad. I don't know what TOC is, or where to go to Sync my data. I also don't know WHAT data I have TO Sync. Also, is there an Instruction "manual" so-to-speak that explains more about the latest update from November 27? I'm working off an iPad 2 which is my ONLY piece of computer "anything" so all I'm woking on is my iPad. I also do not have access to any person's lap top or computer. Can you help me?
Went to Google, tonefox, and found the information. As I told Meg, I am still "way over my head" with computers and still have to remember that you can 'Google" pretty much ANYTHING.

Does Imovie have the same capabilities on an Ipad2 as it does on an Imac?
I am learning how to use Imovie, and i would like to be able to pull clips from movies, newscasts, and youtube, if i can, and use them in my own original videos,(similar to what The Liberal Viewer on Youtube does) then post them to my Youtube channel.
I need a better Imac, mine is about 6 years old and Imovie shuts itself down while i am using it. I was considering keeping it though, since it works ok for my basic needs, and perhaps getting an Ipad2 for movie making. But i am a novice on computers and was wondering if it would be easier for me to learn Imovie on a MAc. Thanks! No they are separate applications. The iMovie on iPad is pretty basic and really optimized for footage taken with an IOS device.
If you are only interested in really basic editing and using footage from say the iPad then you should be OK. -
SQL Developer Data Modeler API
Hi,
My team is responsible for taking requests from a development team, creating a database change script, and updating the data model. We are trying to transition away from Designer but have been using some of the API integration to automate tasks through a custom database change request tool. This allowed the developers to fill out some fields for a the new table they wanted and my team would push a button to have all the updates sent to the data model in Designer.
My question is, does SQL Developer Data Modeler have anything like this? If so, is there some documentation?
Thanks
JustinVery limited documentation is available in

Hey everyone!
I'm a beginner xcoder and computer engineering sophomore and have literally spent every hour of the past few weeks reading as much as I possibly can about becoming a developer.
I've found plenty of documentation, and guides on how to do very specific things in xcode and objective-C but am still looking for more information on one topic; how do you decide which data models/structures/controllers etc to use?
I mean, you personally. I've been looking for a resource on this and have not been able to find one. I just finished Apple's iOS Developers Guide and they mention "choosing a data model" but do not describe them in much detail.
The following is what is provided in the guide:
● Choose a basic approach for your data model:
● Existing data model code—If you already have data model code written in a C-based language, you
can integrate that code directly into your iOS apps. Because iOS apps are written in Objective-C, they
work just fine with code written in other C-based languages. Of course, there is also benefit to writing
an Objective-C wrapper for any non Objective-C code.
● Custom objects data model—A custom object typically combines some simple data (strings, numbers,
dates, URLs, and so on) with the business logic needed to manage that data and ensure its consistency.
Custom objects can store a combination of scalar values and pointers to other objects. For example,
the Foundation framework defines classes for many simple data types and for storing collections of
other objects. These classes make it much easier to define your own custom objects.
● Structured data model—If your data is highly structured—that is, it lends itself to storage in a
database—use Core Data (or SQLite) to store the data. Core Data provides a simple object-oriented
model for managing your structured data. It also provides built-in support for some advanced features
like undo and iCloud. (SQLite files cannot be used in conjunction with iCloud.)
● Decide whether you need support for documents:
The job of a document is to manage your app’s in-memory data model objects and coordinate the storage
of that data in a corresponding file (or set of files) on disk. Documents normally connote files that the user
created but apps can use documents to manage non user facing files too. One big advantage of using
documents is that the UIDocument class makes interacting with iCloud and the local file system much
simpler. For apps that use Core Data to store their content, the UIManagedDocument class provides similar
support.
I suppose my question boils down to, how do you decide which structures to use? If you can provide an example of an app idea and how its implemented that would be very helpful and much appreciated!
For example, to implement the idea of an app which allows users to progress through levels of knowledge of a certain subject and rewarding them with badges and such (this is not an actual app just a whim) how would one model that?
Thanks in advance for all your help!!!SgtChevelle wrote:

Trial and error.
I wish I had a better answer for you, but that pretty much encapsulates it. There is some, but not much, good wisdom out there, but it takes a significant amount of experience to be able to recognize it. The software development community if currently afflicted with a case of copy-and-paste-itis. And the prognosis is poor.
The solution is to be brutal to yourself and others. Focus on what you need and ignore everything else. Remember that other people have their own needs and methods and they might not be applicable to you. Apple, for example, can hire thousands of programmers, set them to coding for six months, pick the best results, and have the end-users spend their own time and monety to test it. If you don't have Apple's resources and power, think twice about adopting Apple's approach. And I am talking from a macro to a micro perspective. Apple's sample and boilerplate code is just junk. Don't assume you can't do better. You can.
Unfortunately, all this takes time and practice. You can read popular books, but never assume that anyone knows more than you do. Maybe they do and maybe they don't. It takes time to figure that out. Just do your best, ignore the naysayers, and doubt other people even more than you doubt yourself. -
Can we dynamically select DataSets in Data Model of a BI Publisher Report?
Hello,
I have a requirement as below -
For a report 'XX Report1' we have Data Model(concatenated SQL Data Source) with 3 Datasets -
New DataSet1 - WebService Call (WSDL) (Say D1)
New DataSet2 - SQL QueryA (Say D2)
New DataSet3 - SQL QueryB (Say D3)
Layout - 'XXRTFFile.RTF'
And another report 'XX Report2' with Data Model(concatenated SQL Data Source) with 3 Datasets -
New DataSet1 - SQL QueryC (Say D4)
New DataSet2 - SQL QueryA (D2)
New DataSet3 - SQL QueryB (D3)
Layout - 'XXRTFFile.RTF'
Note that DataSet2 and DataSet3 have the same queries in both the reports.
'XX Report1' is called from Siebel frontend through a URL
'XX Report2' is called from Batch Programming later.
The requirement is to come up with a single Report for both of these calls.
So, I thought of merging all the DataSets in to 1 Data Model as D1,D2,D3,D4.
Is there a way for us to select the DataSets from Data Model using the Parameters when Report is run, so that the report picks up D1, D2, D3 if it is called from Siebel frontend and D4,D2,D3 if its run from Batch Programming?
Please let me know. Thanks in advance.
Thanks,
PhaniThe web services API would probably be your best bet. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/e10416/bip_webservice_101331.htm#CHDGIJHH
There is some Java examples in the above. I'm guessing the c# code wouldn't be too different.

then my report is showimg only these values in couloumn (0calday) ....
but i want to see all the daily buckets even cube dosn't have data (this example 12/6/2008) ...
I am giving the date range in report selection screen 10/6/2008 to 13/6/2008 ...
Please any body help me .....I'm not seeing anything unusual.<br />
Such issues can be caused by margin or padding settings that depend on the font-size, but I'm not seeing any such CSS rules and increasing the font-size doesn't cause any problems.

Need to read parent tag data even if child fragment doesnot have data
Hi, I am using Binary method of XML Storage,
Here is my Oracle installation details
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production

XML Structure Details ---> The provided sample xml has repetitive Party tag under which a PolicyNumber tag might be present, under the Party tag a AddressList may or not be present.
I have 3 such Party tags, the first one has no PolicyNumber tag altough the AddressList tag and has multiple Adress under the same, the second Party tag has the PolicyNumber however it doesnot have the AdressList data in it, 3rd party tag is irrelevant for this issue.
What i want to acheive ---> Even though there are no Address present for the PolicyNumber tag i want PolicyNumber to appear in my result set, since the PolicyNumber's Party tag doesnot have a Address tag i guess the result set is ignoring the PolicyNumber in the final result set.
In a nut shell i need all these data i cannot miss the PolicyNumber neither the Address
Please go through the XML and the subsequent query for further assitance
Inserting a sample XML

'$AD/Address' passing n.Address_Fragment as "AD"
columns
ADDRESS_1 VARCHAR2 (4000) PATH 'Address1',
ADDRESS_2 VARCHAR2 (4000) PATH 'Address2'
) l;
But this query returns no PolicyNumber, since the address under the Party node where the PolicyNumber is present does not have a corresponding Address value
Heres the result set returned:-
CLAIM POLICY_NUMBER Address1 Address2
abcdefgh <NULL> data1 goes here data1 goes here
abcdefgh <NULL> data2 goes here data2 goes here
Is there a way to specify to the above query to fetch all the data even if its corresponding Address fragment does not have data against the tag.
Result set that i want to acheive:-
CLAIM POLICY_NUMBER Address1 Address2
abcdefgh 123456 <NULL> <NULL>
abcdefgh <NULL> data1 goes here data1 goes here
abcdefgh <NULL> data2 goes here data2 goes here

However, there seems to have a bug when the outer join is only used at the deepest level.
Try with outer joins at every level :

I am trying to edit the default forms/reports that come with CM14, trying to edit the data model, data set, (to get to the old Infomaker style graphic view) , the Query model does not display (error the list of tables is too long..) Oracle tell me the limit is 60, there are not 60 tables referenced in any CM report.
Does this Query builder view work at all on any report?
(bigger question, we are moving from CM12, should we move to CM13 which works with infomaker?)
Thanks,
Paul LKurt, thanks for your replies.
A couple of notes/clarifications.
1. You are correct that BI works better in Firefox--I have observed issues with the BI display when using IE. I would recommend using Firefox too.
2. You are correct about the way to get to the Query Builder to see a graphical view of data tables. There are basically two issues with this that I mentioned, but will re-iterate:
a. If you have an EXISTING query in the data set, then click the "Query Builder" button, this will remove the existing query that's there, it will NOT display the existing query in the query builder. Query Builder works only to create a NEW query from scratch.
b. Query builder is limited to selecting 60 fields max in your query. If you are creating a large report with many tables, you may find that 60 fields is not enough. For that you will have to work in the SQL edit screen rather than using the query builder.
I would impress on anyone developing CM14 reports that they become familiar with the database schema and relationships to avoid problems when developing your BI reports. You should be able to find the tables and joins documentation in the knowledgebase. -
I need to do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder (http://store.sony.co...ber=HDRAX2000/H) ..this camcorder model does not have firewire out/input ..it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite A/V video output..
I wonder how can I plug this camcorder to the firewire port of my laptop? Browsing on internet I found that Grass Valley Company produces this converter http://www.amazon.co...=A17MC6HOH9AVE6 ..but I am not sure -not even after checking the amazon reviews- if this device will send the video signal through firewire to my laptop, in order to live streaming properly? ..anyone in this forum could help me please?
ThanxI can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera... is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...

ADF Menu model does not have shortDesc
Hello experts, in my application I need to support 508 compliance. I have implemented ADF menu model and noticed that the menu items does not have shortDesc attribute. In the structure window when I view the menu xml file, I can see accessKey, lable etc. But no shortDesc attribute. Please guide me what should I do. I will have to provide shortDesc for all text items, menu items etc.
thanksI created ADF menu model from unbounded task flows which will be added to the template using af:navigationPane. The only place where we can add valid label and other attributes for each of the menu option is at menu model meta data file. This is xml file and in structure window, we can change the attributes to each of the menu option. I do not see shortDesc attribute.
Not sure it is a bug in jdev 11.1.1.6
