Does 9.3.1 really *require* UTF-8?

The "Installation Start Here" manual for release 9.3.1 makes a broad statement that databases must use the UTF-8 character set (see section entitled "Preparing Databases"). Has anyone out there successfully installed System 9 using non-UTF-8 Oracle repositories? Any experience with Planning repositories, in particular?
If you tried and failed without UTF-8, what didn’t work properly?
Thanks very much.

If you absolutely insist on IE8, have a look here -- it can be done, although not supported.

Cameron Lackpour

The iPhone requires wi-fi to update if you try to update over the air, since the phone needs to reboot, thus disconnecting itself. You can update via iTunes and the computer, but you would not be able to tether to the phone for the internet connection, since the phone would disconnect. So, you can either update via wi-fi and the phone, or you can update with a computer that has an internet connection other than the phone.

    hi Robin,
Base on my experience, you could change website to Standard mode or Basic Mode if you want custom domain SSL. you could view the price details  from this page (http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/web-sites/

the blow is the content of the review team email:
We found that your app uses a background mode but does not include functionality that requires that mode to run persistently. This behavior is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.
We noticed your app declares support for location in the UIBackgroundModes key in your Info.plist but does not include features that require persistent location.
It would be appropriate to add features that require persistent use of real-time location updates while the app is in the background or remove the "location" setting from the UIBackgroundModes key. If your application does not require persistent, real-time location updates, we recommend using the significant-change location service or the region monitoring location service.
For more information on these options, please see the "Starting the Significant-Change Location Service" and "Monitoring Shape-Based Regions" sections in the Location Awareness Programming Guide.
If you choose to add features that use the Location Background Mode, please include the following battery use disclaimer in your Application Description:
"Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life."
Additionally, at your earliest opportunity, please review the following question/s and provide as detailed information as you can in response. The more information you can provide upfront, the sooner we can complete your review.
We are unable to access the app in use in "http://www.wayding.com/waydingweb/article/12/139". Please provide us a valid demo video to show your app in use.

  • Does iTunes 10.5.1 require internet to work?

(Quick background - 24" iMac (Core 2 Duo, late 2006 model) running OS X 10.6.8+, but no internet connection at home). Last Sunday I had lugged it to a local WiFi to do updates and check the Mac App Store. Downloaded the Snow Leopard Security update, Safari update, iTunes 10.5.1 upgrade (think that was all), got what I needed done, took the behemoth home. iMac worked fine the next day, but I didn't use iTunes then.
Yesterday afternoon, I fired up iTunes (first use of iTunes 10.5.1 since the update), and when it starts up it opens the window, then gives me the spinning beachball ('Not Responding' shown when I check the Dock icon)... Force quit, removed iTunes and re-installed 10.4.x from a previously downloaded dmg file. Start up iTunes - it gives me a message that it cannot read the library file because it's from a newer version of iTunes. :-(
My question: Does iTunes 10.5.1 **require** that it have continuous/on-(iTunes')demand internet connection for it to function? If so, then until I get an internet provider at home (that doesn't require me to switch phone providers or cost me an excessive amount - as our cable company does), I will be staying with 10.4 iTunes until I move to where I can get affordable internet service.
So, does iTunes demand its way about having to have internet connection? Could be the downside of the much-touted iCloud and "sync/streaming to all your devices" promise. I certainly hope Apple will recognize (once again) that not everybody out there has affordable internet access/speedy connections.

Okay, when I get home I'll see about that (generally a good thing to do). But since I have gone back to iTunes 10.4.x, and (not being regularly connected to the internet), is there an advantage for me to upgrade to iT 10.5.x (until I get an internet connection at home)? The Security Updates I can see more reason for doing. What will I gain (now) from upgrading to iT 10.5.1, other than iCloud features? (My iPod Touch won't run iOS 5, by the way).
And (preferably with some detail) what do you suspect necessitates running the drive repair? I like to understand not only what to do, but some of the why(s).
    Thank you for the information.

  • Best way to announce that the hardware does not meet the minimum requirements

         Hi Everybody!!!
I'm in the process of tiding my App up, and I stumbled into a requirement that needs to be addressed. I'm not quite familiar with the latest trends, so I was wondering if anybody could recommend a way to inform the user if the hardware
to use does not meet the minumum requirements.
         In a nutshell:
     * I just created a game using Direct3D / DirectX 11,
     * I'm using "DrawIndexedInstanced", which means that the videocard to use should meet at least DirectX v10 (my shaders are using model 9_3 but I tested it in a computer with DirectX9 model 3 (or so the nvidia brochure said), and the game pretty
    much died in my arms).
     * According to the App Certification Requirements: "if you choose a minimum feature level higher than 9_1, your app must detect at launch whether or not the current hardware meets the minimum requirements. If not, the app must display a message to
the customer detailing the Direct3D requirements."
     * I know how to detect the Direct3D level supported by the current videocard. What I would like to know is how to tell the user that the videocard does not support the minimum requirements.
I don't have much knowledge about the current trends:
     * I assume that displaying a message box may not be the best option, as that would mean I need to link the MFC layer to do so (the game is in Visual C++ and that's what I would do if it were one of my day-job projects). I'm quite sure that
is too much of a library just to show a message box... not to mention that most likelly the MFC is no longer supported in a Metro application...
     * I was thinking about displaying a nice graphic warning about the issue, but if the D3DDevice1 is not what I expect then I don't think I can be sure that at least it can display the graphic with the information.
     * I'm not quite sure if I should be linking to a .NET Library ("System.Windows.Forms" comes to mind), but then again maybe it's too much of a library for just a messagebox.
     * Then again, displaying that message in a command prompt may not be the best idea either.
         Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

         Hi Chuck,
I tried your idea, but the game always crashed when calling the DrawIndexedInstanced() function in a computer that only supported DirectX Level 9.1 (plenty of those computers at my day-job, sometimes I swear this office could be
a museum). The crash started as a driver unload call, and after that everything goes down.
I also tried using the WARP mode, but the performance was horrible, and after a minute of playing I started to have temperature issues with the CPU (I did not see that one coming)
What I finished doing was to create two sets of shaders (pixel and vertex):
     * If the feature reported by D3D11CreateDevice was 9_3 or above, I'd use my very own and happy shaders, compiled in 9_3 model. Beautiful performance with DrawIndexedInstanced().
     * If on the other hand the feature reported by D3D11CreateDevice was either 9_2 or 9_1, I'd use a set of shaders compiled for level 9_1. That seemed to be enough to draw a couple of images on the screen and tell the user, using my own game elements,
that the computer did not match the hardware requirements.
It looks like this was a good approach. My game passed the certification test, and it is currently on the AppStore.
          Best Regards,

  • Does 1Z0-001 fit the requirement of 11g DB OCP requirement (1Z0-051)?

    Dear Sir:
Hi, I would like to ask 3 questions about the certification requirement of 11g DB OCP.
Please advice me what do I have to do to prepare the OCP exam, thanks a lot in advance.
    Q1:
Does 1Z0-001 fit the requirement of 11g DB OCP requirement (pass 1Z0-001 = pass 1Z0-051)?
    AFAIK, 11g DB OCP requires passing 3 exams: 1Z0-051 (SQL), 1Z0-052 (AW1), 1Z0-053 (AW2) and finishing a hand-on course at least.
I have passed the 1Z0-001 (Introduction to SQL ans PL/SQL) many years ago.
After searching the discussion in the community, I've found 2 relative:
https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2526631  It said :"1Z0-001 will satisfy the SQL requirement."
https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2467872 It said : "I can confirm that the 001 exam will fulfill the SQL exam requirement if it was passed before it retired."
I was confused on that. Please help me to clear it.
Do I have to prepare the exam 1Z0-051 since I have passed 1Z0-001 (an retired exam)?
    Q2:
Please confirm that finishing the SSC (Self-Study Course) DOES NOT apply the "hand-on course requirement ".
It still need to pay more money for an instructor-led (face-to-face) course, right?
    Q3:
Can I just finish ONE course "Oracle 11g Database Administrator Workshop II" from an Oracle authorized education center to fit the " hand-on course requirement " ?
Sorry I have to ask this because the budget consideration.
    Thank you very much!

A1 -- Yes, if you passed 1Z0-001, you do not need to take 1Z0-051.  When courses are retired, it simply means they are no longer given to *new* students.  Anyone who passed them still retains credit for having done so.
A2 -- Self Study CDs do not count for the hands-in requirement.  On the approved courses page of OU, it specifically states: "Self Study CD-Rom and Knowledge Center courses are excellent study and reference tools but DO NOT meet the Hands-on Requirement for certification."
A3 -- Only one course is required for the 11G OCP.  That one is on the approved list and so will be acceptable if the vendor is authorized by OU.

  • Does the iPhone 5 really need a case?

Does the iPhone 5 really need a case? ive been reading articles that says it doesn't, opinions please...

In that case (no pun intended), you may not need one. I agree, it does look and feel better without the case.  I bought a clear case so it still shows off the design, but the problem is the case itself scratches easily.
It's your call. But I would say, if you are not worried about dropping the phone (with AppleCare+, a replacement is only $49 as you may know), you do not absolutely need a case.

  • Does not meet the system requirement for installing BB App World

I bought a Curve 8520 in Singapore yesterday. When i tried to download App world into this phone, it says "my phone does not meet the system requirement for the software".  does it refer to hardware specification or the BB O/s version on the phone. How can fix it because being able to use App world is one of the purposes that i buy a BB.
Also, How about MS Live Messenger , facebook ?  Do I need to install them seperately through App World?
    Please help!

    Hi there!
Please see these links for reference:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/appworld/download.jsp#tab_tab_system_requirements
    http://www.blackberry.com/app_includes/devicesoftware/appworld/appworld_availability_en.html
A key component in accessing AppWorld is your carrier -- if they are not delivering it, then you can't get it. If you don't have an adequate plan from them that incudes it, then you can't get it. Hence, if you meet the hardware requirements AND it is available in your country, then you need to contact your carrier to find out how you can get it via their network.
All that said, AppWorld is merely a storefront, vending apps developed by others...there are many other storefronts available that don't have the same restrictions.
    Good luck!

  • Trying to verify my app using codesign, but it fails with "does not satisfy its designated Requirement"

    Hello,
When attempting to verify my ios app using codesign it fails:
    macmini:MyApp admin$ codesign -vvvv Payload/MyApp.app
    Payload/MyApp.app: valid on disk
Payload/MyApp.app: does not satisfy its designated Requirement
I tried to diagnose it, so I ran this command that as far as I know shows what the requirements are:
    macmini:MyApp admin$ codesign -d -r- Payload/MyApp.app Executable=/Volumes/Share/Temp/appstore/MyApp.3.12.2.0/Payload/MyApp.app/MyApp designated => identifier "com.bla1.bla2" and certificate root = H"40characterstring"
But I'm not sure how to proceed now. The identifier looks correct and not sure what to do with that 40 character string for the certificate root. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

Hi candn14 and welcome to the forums!
Since internet connection is working fine on the laptop computer when plugged directly into the modem, you just need to configure your router settings.
Are you using a DSL or Cable connection? Please see the links below on how to configure your router with your internet provider (ISP).
Setting-Up a Router with Cable Internet Service
Setting-Up a Router with DSL Internet Service
Once you are finished doing so and your laptop is able to connect to the internet when connected to the modem > router > laptop, then you are now ready to configure the wireless settings of the router for you to be able to connect wirelessly.
    Here are the steps:
Setting-Up the Wireless Settings on a Router
And please secure your network w/ a password.

what does it mean when itunes requires 10.6.8?
I accidently deleted my friend's itunes and it will not let me download it

If the computer is running Mac OS X 10.5.8, you cannot install the most recent version of iTunes. You will have to download iTunes 10.6.3, the last version that will run on a Mac OS X 10.5.8 system:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1575
To reinstall Microsoft Word, you will need to use the installer disk for Microsoft Office. To reinstall PhotoBooth, you would need to reinstall Mac OS X itself.
I presume you looked in the Trash on the computer, though, to see if the things you believe you deleted are perhaps still there? If they are, just drag them back to the Applications folder.
