Does a Canon S80 work with iPhoto 6

I just ordered a Canon S80 digital camera. The Canon website says that they are still testing this model for Tiger compatibility. Does anyone have any experience using this camera with iLife 06?

Some more info:
I suppose you've discovered the Canon forum at:
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1010
Also, you can download the software and camera manuals at:
http://www.powershot.com (click on "support" then "downloads")
Canon software vs. iPhoto:
iPhoto doesn't 'remember' which photos you've already downloaded, so each time it wants to download all of them but at the end of the session if offers to skip the import of duplicates. This can take a long time. The Canon software flags the previously download images (info is on the card somewhere), so it shows all of the thumbnails, but you can see which are new.
The Canon software gives you access to some 'image properties' that iPhoto doesn't. iPhoto info is generic and doesn't know about the 'photo effects' and other camera features.
Important(!): Use the Canon software and set the "owner" field to your name and phone number. You can't see (or set) the info on the camera, but every image will contain the info and you might get it back if you lose it.
Photo CD vs. digital:
I have not tried a Photo CD in a while, but a couple of years ago I was very disappointed with the scanned resolution. They were no higher than my first digital (1.6Mpix) and were much grainier.
Resolution:
I see no reason not to take every picture at the highest resolution and lowest compression the camera will handle, otherwise why buy a nice camera? Hard disk and CD/DVD (backup) are cheap. That said, if I was on a long trip and concerned about running out of space, I'd switch the compression to "Fine" from "Superfine". The image is nearly indistinguishable but about 60% of the size. On my S45 I had the "stitch" mode set this way, but I think that if you switch it on the S80 some of the other modes 'inherit' the setting, too. Resizing in the camera is interpolation that you might as well do on the computer.
The photo printer:
I haven't used a printer w/o a computer, but since many of your prints may be 4x6 and the image is 3:4, you're going to crop the images somewhere. The Mac might be the best place.
Photoshop:
If you load Photoshop and set the 'preferences' in iPhoto to 'Edit photo' in an 'external program' (pick Photoshop), then you can go back and set iPhoto to edit in a separate window or full screen. This sets up the 'control-click' menu so you can pick a photo in iPhoto and control-click to choose to edit with "external editor" (Photoshop).
Sharing images: (shrink 'em first!)
Maybe you've been sending 'full size' Photo CD images to your friends/relatives up until this point. They will be upset if you start sending them 4-5Mpix photos from your new camera.

Not even Vuescan will make it work in OSX...

Appears only way would be Bootcamp, Parallels, etc. running Windows on the Mini.

  • VuPoint Solutions DC-M306AT-VP Digital Camera - Does it work with iPhoto

I'm looking for an inexpensive digital camera for my son. One option is the VuPoint Solutions DC-M306AT-VP 3.1MP fixed focus camera. I saw it at Ritz Camera. Its only $69.
Has anyone tried connecting this camera to iPhoto? It has built in memory (16MB) plus an SD slot. I'm guessing that even if the camera won't work with iPhoto, the SD card can be read in an external reader. Your experiences would be greatly appreciated.

    Keith,
Thanks for your reply. After going to their website http://www.vupointsolutions.com (which I didn't find earlier because Google searches inundate you with sellers rather than OEM links), I found some more clues. The FAQ for this particular camera states no drivers are needed for Windows XP and 2000. This is typically true for standard USB devices like memory card readers and hard drives and those usually also work on a Mac so I'm getting more confident that it will work.
But, there was another odd entry in the FAQ that kind of turns me off. It states that its normal for the camera to drain the batteries dead even when its not being used. It has internal SDRAM to keep alive. If the batteries die, you lose any photos stored in the internal memory and they recommend using an SD card.
For a few dollars more (approx $112), I'm leaning towards the Nikon Coolpix L10 or Canon A460. I can use it myself when I don't want to lug the Canon Digital Rebel around.

Just connected an external drive and turned on time machine in Leopard. Doesn't seem to work with iphoto. Do I need to upgrade to 8?

While TM should still back up the iPhoto Library Folder you cannot interact with TM from within iPhoto if you're using v6.

  • Does Adobe Photoshop Elements work with MacBook Pro with Retina display?

Does Adobe Photoshop Elements work with MacBook Pro with Retina display, please?
Have searched Adobe website for answer - most recent is 2013 answer, saying no.
Contradicted by a staff ember who only referred to Photoshop, not Elements.
Reason I need it is that iPhoto does not support very high resolution photos - which I have now scanned onto my MacBook and do not want to re-scan!! After 90 minutes at my local Genius bar (lovely folk, very conscientiously searching for an answer...), re-scanning was their final piece of advice.
    Help, please...

    Hello Smis,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand you are having issues with your HP Monitor on your MAC. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Updating a Monitor Driver, where it states under the sub-heading Using HP monitors on a Mac "HP monitors are not supported in a Mac environment. However, newer Macs use graphics with VESA modes and can display to most HP LCD monitors. To do this, connect the monitor to the Mac while the Mac is off, and then turn on the MAC. The monitor should operate at 60Hz. The INF and software for the HP monitor are for Microsoft Windows and cannot be run in a standard MAC OS environment."
This being said all I can advise is that you check to see that the monitor is set to operat at 60Hz and contact Apple for assistance if that does not get your monitor displaying correctly.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Working with iPhoto pix in iMovie '11

Two questions on working with iPhoto pictures in iMovie '11:
Is there a way to control the sort order of pictures in an iPhoto event in iMovie '11? Or, looking at it from a different perspective, how does iMovie '11 sort photos when I'm browsing an iPhoto event? iMovie has the photos in a different order than iMovie and I can't figure out how it's determinig sort order. I'd like the photos in iMovie to use the same sort order that iPhoto uses. The next best option would be to have iMovie sort by photo name. Just as background, the sort order I set in iPhoto is "By Title." Before import into iPhoto, I changed the titles of some photos that I know will not be used in iMovie so that they sort to the end of an event.
How do I navigate from one iPhoto event to another? I must be missing something basic...when I need to move from one event to another, I have to select another iPhoto choice (such as "Photos" or "Last Import") and then select "Events" again.
    Thanks.

For Question #1, an album definitely helped. In iPhoto, I highlighted all 19 events in this particular library, selected File>New Album, and set the sort order by title. Back in iMovie, the list of photos was sorted the same.
Regarding Question #2, I figured out why iMovie was acting the way it was. I had increased the height of the photo viewer/browser pane so that the source list collapsed to a single drop-down. So the source list that normally looks like this:
    ...became this:
I don't think iMovie is set to allow you to go back to the list of all events without selecting some other item in the drop-down first. When the viewer pane is lowered so that the source list looks like the first screen above, you can click on Events and have it return to the list of all events.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Does Lion really not work with Microsoft Office?

does Lion really not work with Microsoft Office?

I am afraid I have reverted to Snow Leopard as I was having one problem after another with Lion and for every problem I was solving, two new ones cropped up. I won't bore you with a long list, but one example is whenever I clicked on a single saved document to view, Microsoft Word would open not only that particular document, but also half a dozen other ones as well. Also, my Canon printer did not operate properly nor would Aol. With a lot of other weird stuff happening every day, the final straw was when my Time Capsule wouldn't backup properly, but just 'hang' indefinitely.
Luckily, I have two HD disks on my iMac and I had installed Lion on HD2 while still retaining Snow Leopard on HD1. I also made a Lion installation disk for future installation when all these software bugs have been sorted.
I am back to normal service with Snow Leopard and shall not return to Lion until at least the next upgrade/patch becomes available. I so looked forward to Lion as well, but I was fighting a losing battle.
I would suggest anyone who is in my position trying to stem the tidalwave of software problems with Lion, make an installation disk for Lion and go back to SL until the next upgrade.

Sorry, I don't understand this - you don't want Adobe [Reader] not to open when doing what?  On what operating system?

Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own? If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps? How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two? also I am going to be going off to college soon should I make an itunes id for my self and how will I get all the music from the old id?

Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own?
Yes, it is possible. 1 apple ID can be associated with up to 10 devices.
If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps?
    Yes, all purchases are non-transferable.
How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two?
Every device associated with one apple ID through Find my iPhone is tied to that Apple ID; Find my iPhone will work in the same way with up to ten devices associated with one apple ID. You cannot enable Find my iPhone for one device across two apple IDs
I am going to be going off to college soon should I make an itunes id for my self and how will I get all the music from the old id?
If you have authorized a computer with the old apple ID, you can transfer old media purchased through the old to other devices via iTunes. This doesn't mean the media purchases through the old apple ID it transferred to the new account. If you plan to make future purchases and don't wish to share them with others, make your own apple ID.

No. Only iPhone 4S and iPad (2nd or 3rd Gen) as it requires more processing power. You can still use airplay with your device though.

  • Does the iPod Mini Work with Windows?

I am thinking of buying an iPod mini but I don't have an Apple computer. Does the iPod mini work with Windows efficiently? Thanks....

    Hello Ian,
Can you be really specific about the necessary Windows XP updates needed? I run XP Pro on a rather new computer and just got an IPOD mini. I'm ready to tear my hair out because iTunes seems to crash my computer every time I change one CD for another. iTunes runs REALLY, REALLY slow for me. Also read on the board that iTunes 6.0 and the mini don't work well together. True or not true?
    Thanks - Genevieve
