Does a DVD SP backup/autosave vault exist?

Does DVD SP create a backup of recent sessions (like FCP autosave vault)and if so, where would I find it? I save early and often. My recent session was lost (corrupted) as I was moving subtitles from one row to another. I had just hit save at the same time as it crashed and I suppose it corrupted the file. Now, when I try to open that file, I get "cannot open file" error. I have saved and saved using the same file name so there is no recent backup that I can find. Anyone know what are my options, if any?

- vault is not incremental. Thus, when you update
the vault (backup) you are effectively creating a
whole new backup to replace the one you had already.
It is incremental. I know, because I have created a vault and it only backs up what has changed, not the whole library. Very quick too. Not sure how you came up with this hypothesis. Have you tried to do this yet ?
Aperature architecture. Ok, so how do I go about
getting my newly imported files 'exported' as RAW
files to my DVD for backup purposes? I don't have
Two options:
1) You can export your newly imported master images to a folder on your hard drive and then use toast or the burn feature to burn a DVD.
2) Copy the images off the CF card, using Finder, to a local directory on your hard disk. Copy this directory off to a DVD for peace of mind. Now tell Aperture to import this directory into your library. After the import is complete, delete this directory.
documentation. Does 'export master' allow doing so
to a DVD and then burning? Somehow I dont think
I haven't been able to do that. So I don't think so.
I don't like the idea of relying on another hard
drive for backup purposes, so DVD's are peace of mind
for me (although I prefer to do both).
I agree with you on that.

  • Backup concerns (Vault and DVD backup workflows)

I am a little bit concerned with regard to how the whole backup regimen is implemented in Aperture.
    My concerns are twofold:
    - vault is not incremental. Thus, when you update the vault (backup) you are effectively creating a whole new backup to replace the one you had already. If my library consists of tens of thousands of RAW images, it seems pointless to have to back up the whole thing again just to update, say, 50 new additions. What am I missing here? Is the idea to create multiple smaller vaults? One new vault for each major import?
    - backing up to DVD. My current workflow using Finder/Bridge is to take images from my camera cards (which on a typical shoot will require the space of a DVD) and immediately burn a backup before I do anything at all to the images. This of course requires me to offload the cards into a folder from finder. Now with Aperture, you are expected to import directly from the camera cards into the Aperature architecture. Ok, so how do I go about getting my newly imported files 'exported' as RAW files to my DVD for backup purposes? I don't have Aperture yet, so am looking at the online documentation. Does 'export master' allow doing so to a DVD and then burning? Somehow I dont think that would actually work.

  • Autosave vault won't take serial number

FCP 7 is second language to me after Avid.  Trying to access a backup of a project.  On opening, I get a box asking for name and serial number. Put it in, I get a message saying that the number is invalid, and then a crash message that Final Cut Express HD has crashed.  But it's an FCP7 project, trying to get it open in FCP7.  I notice all the project files are labeled Final Cut Express Files. I have deleted every Final Cut Express file and app I can find.  Help.

If you open fcp first and "open" the autosave file from the file menu does that work?
Digital Rebellion has a project repair app
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/promaintenance/
    There's a free trial.
You might also make sure that the application associated with the project is correct.
from the finder, select one project file in the autosave vault and hit command-i.  Make siure "open with" is set to Final Cut Pro.  if it isn't, change it and "change all."  You might want to back up the files before you do this.

  • Using iDisk for the Autosave Vault?

I'm currently using FCE with a MacBook Pro. I often use MacBook Pro hooked to a variety of external hard drives. However, sometime it would be nice to use it not hooked up to all of those drives. But I would still want to be able to have Autosave Vault active.
I have MobileMe. Would it be possible to use the MobileMe iDisk as a location disk for the Autosave Vault? Has anyone tried that? Does it work satisfactorily?
    Thanks!
    James

    The answer is no.
FCE expects scratch disk locations to be on locally connected internal drives or external FW drives. Even though the location of Autosave Vault can be set on its own, it is unlikely to work over a network connection.
Theoretically you could create an alias connecting the Autosave Vault folder in your scratch disk to a location on your iDisk, but that too would be unreliable even if you initially got it working.

  • Date Format in Autosave Vault

I have just noticed that the date format used in the names of Autosaved files in the Autosave Vault Folder are in the US format which I find confusing and risks error. How can I change this to the European format of dd/mm/yy? (I have searched the manual and Tom's book.)
    Thanks.
G5/2.0 GHz Mac OS X (10.3.9) 1 GB RAM, 150 GB HD, FCE HD, Tom Wolsky's book, & FCE HD Visual Quickstart Guide

You have got me there, Steve!
In the nine months I have been using FCE, I wasn't aware there was a date in there, let alone its format.
I can't imagine any circumstance where it could possibly cause errors.
I have never needed to use it and I fear you may be looking for problems that in reality either don't exist or don't matter.
I am sure that once you get editing you will forget all about it and it will never bother you again.
Mind you, now that I have had my attention drawn to it, I would like to know how it could be altered!

  • How does a DVD Player recognize/play a DVD?

I'm wondering, does a DVD Player 'look' for the Video_TS and Audio_TS folders?
I'm wondering because I found a backup of an old-old DVD I made a few years back. I just have the Audio/Video_TS folders. If I burned these to a DVD in the root folder, would my DVD player be able to read it? Or do programs like DVD Studio Pro burn some sort of 'invisible' data to the DVD-R which a DVD Player 'looks' for?

Mac OS X's basic drag-and-drop burning (from the Finder) creates a hybrid HFS+/ISO-9660 disc. You can try creating a DVD Master image file with Disk Utility and then putting the files on that disk image. Disk Utility should create this type of image file as a UDF disc. I'm not in front of a Mac right now to give more detailed instructions, or to even tell if this will work.
An easier solution might be to download DiscBlaze which will allow you 5 burns before you have to register. It can burn a UDF disc.

  • Are Virtual Copies saved in Backups? How do I insert a backup into an existing catalog?

Are Virtual Copies saved in Backups? How do I insert a backup into an existing catalog
I deleted a tif image file that I didn't intend to, which had several LR virtual copies created from it. The virtual copies had a lot of important history that document my print preparation edits. Are these virtual copies saved in the LR backups?
If so, how can I insert them into the catalog I am using? I have made a lot of edits in the two days since my last backup and don't want to lose that history either. Do you suggest I make a current backup before retrieving files from my last backup? I know I'm supposed to go to the backup location and open the last backup, but how do I blend that with the current work from the last 2 days?
Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks, Tom

    Rob,
That was exactly what I was after. However, I'm still having trouble getting the virtual copies imported. The master file was in my trash, I restored it to the original hard drive folder. Before I got your message I re- imported it to LR but of course LR came up with a new name since I was importing from and saving it to the same folder in LR. And of course no copies. This may have been a mistake, but before starting the procedure you described, I re-named the master file (it seemed that the import from backup would re-create it so I didn't want  a conflict).
Then I did what you said and used the 'Import From Another Catalog' feature. I found the virtual copies in the backup and checked them. But when the import completed, the it gave me file names  xxx/Copy1, xxx/Copy2 but there was no image or history or metadata. When I tried to find the folder containing the files, it said it couldn't be found. So I missed something in the settings. When I tried again, there was a warning saying the file(s) exists in the catalog and its settings differ. I went ahead anyway and the message I got was "No Photos in previous import"
Here's what the import from backup shows:
A box with catalog contents and all the folders and files within them, that you can check.
A New Photos section, which gives 2 file handling choices: a)add new photos to the catalog without moving them or b) don't import new photos
A Changed existing photos section with 2 replace options: a) nothing or b) Metadata and develop setting only. If you choose this you can check a box to preserve old settings as a virtual copy.
Not sure what to do. I changed the master file back to its original name, but that didn't make a difference. Suggestions? Thanks, Tom

I've been using numbers for iPad and I accidentally deleted a column. And the auto-save feature saved that and now I can't undo it. Does iCloud storage have backups of saved files from like 10 minutes ago? I have numbers synced to iCloud.
I tried to undo it but the app crashed.
I am hoping there's like a previously saved version of my file in iCloud somewhere.

No, iOS does not do short term incremental back ups to iCloud such as you get with Time Capsule. It backs up when you do soo manually, or if set properly, when the device is plugged in and connected to WiFi. It will not have saved your changes as of 10 minutes prior.

  • My friend's iPod touch 5th gen is locked somehow for 41 years and she does not have a backup. Is there a way to unlock the iPod without restoring it or loosing the pictures and videos from the camera roll?

My friend's iPod touch 5th gen is locked somehow for 41 years  and she does not have a backup. Is there a way to unlock the iPod without restoring it or loosing the pictures and videos from the camera roll, the applications can be redownloaded and she had no music. Is there any known bug about ipods locking on their own because no one seemed to have tried to bypass the 4 digit code and it is locked for 26 million minutes. So thank you if anyone has any information or help for us.

Your friend may have placed the ipod next to an object that repeatedly pressed the screen.  Under certain circumstances this can lead to what appears to the iTouch to be failed attempts to access the system.  After repeated failed attempts, the Touch increases the waiting time required for the password and may ultimately lock in the way you describe.
It's been a while since this was posted, but this might be informative to someone else who finds themself in a similar predicament.

Are you sure about that, because when I backed up my iPad Mini w/7.0.4 and the newest iTunes, it made a 10gb Backup, which is pretty huge considering I only have a "16" Gb Slate iPad (More Like 13.5 Gb).
When I restored it after Jailbreaking, it moved ALL of the Apps I had bought back in - A neat trick if the Apps themselves are not part of the Backup package- Because the apps had NOT been backed up into iTunes on that PC.
iOS 6 did NOT restore my Apps, even though it did restore my folders.

  • HT201250 If time machine backups hourly.  Why does it need to backup daily, weekly and monthly

If time machine backups hourly.  Then why does it need to backup daily, seekly, and monthly?

    It doesn't.
What it does is discard intermediate backups at the end of 24 hrs and keep just three spaced backups from the previous day.
At the end of the next day, that day's will be reduced to 3, and the previous 3 trimmed to one; the last backup of that day.
Daily backups are kept for a month, then trimmed to the last backup of the week.
The weekly backups are kept until the disc runs out of space and TM starts deleting the oldest ones.

Am I Correct if not please any one answer me why the online redologs are not copied.No. They are not needed because the only valid backup for a cold (or noarchivelog mode database) backup is a consistent backup. Since the backup is already consistent there are no changes to apply.
The online redo logs are (re)created/reset by the "resetlogs" clause when the database is opened.
