Does a new MBP come with iLife?

Does a new Macbook pro come with iLife? I'm specifically looking for iPhoto and Garage Band. I just ordered it today. Do I have to add it on or does it come with it? I got iWorks preinstalled.

Yes, the full iLife '09 suite (iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, and Garage Band) is preloaded, and also on Install DVD 2 that will come with the MBP.

  • Noobish question but does a new macbook come with iLife free?

Does the new imac come with a cd/dvd player/burner?

It's $80.00. You can buy other externals for less, I think, but only the Apple one will work with Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows and any other applications that will only work with an "internal" optical drive.
If this isn't important for you, then explore less expensive alternatives. Check out OWC for example.

  • Do new macbooks come with iLife 06 or 08???

Now, from the conference today, it sounded like they said all new macs would come with iLife 08, but I go on to purchase the macbook, and see it still says 06.
Am I missing something, or am I wrong, and it does not include macbooks?

I just bought my first mac, a macbook pro, yesterday, at an apple store. The mac came with Tiger pre-installed and a drop-in disc of Leopard. Bundled with the Leopard disc were two other discs: OS disc 1 and 2. I had two install options with the Leopard: upgrade or clean. I chose clean because, well, it was a new computer so I figured there was nothing to save from the older OS. After install, I did not have any ilife features or the iwork trial. After lots of reading of postings on the discussion board, I finally figured out that these did not come w/Leopard as I had expected and that by choosing "clean", I erased the previous ilife versions.
I put in the extra OS disc 1, figured out that these were the Tiger OS discs, then chose bundled install package, selected only the ilife features(iweb, imovie, etc.) and the iwork '08 trial. I wasn't sure what I would get as far as the ilife features...if these would be ilife '08 or not. This install went fast. After install, I opened up the installed ilife applications and they were all ilife '08 versions. My mac was bought in Portland, OR, US.
I've seen all the posts that new macs would come with ilife '08 installed, and assumed that meant it would be there as part of the Leopard install. As a newbie to mac, I didn't really get what all this meant. I hope this clarifies for new mac users how to handle the Leopard/new mac/ilife '08 issue.

  • Does the newer Macmini come with iDVD?

I bought the new Mac mini with Yosemite and couldnt find iDVD®
Did Apple not include it on the new machines?

iDVD has been discontinued for over 2 years now.  If you have a need to create video DVDs you'll need to purchase an external optical drive (see OWC.com) and get iDVD.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Softwareor eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • New MBP comes with Mavericks - Upgrade vs Clean Install of Yosemite at this point?

Bought a New 13" MBP today from my local Apple Store.  It came with Mavericks instead of Yosemite.  I realize there is probably a lot of advantages to doing a clean install of any OS, especially when you have a lot of usage on it which creates files all over.  However, I'm wondering if that advantage is minimized by doing an upgrade with a pristine OS.   If very few, if any, files are left behind from Mavericks that are no longer needed does it matter?
Obviously upgrading saves me from having to go through the hassle of creating a bootable USB (wherever that thing is in one of the many junk drawers).

If it were I, I would just di a clean install if you have not configured it already...it's good to have a bootable USB hanging around just in case. It's easy to make one in Terminal if you have at least an eight (8) GB available with this (I just finished one):
    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite.app --nointeraction

  • Does a new iMac come with anything like Appleworks?

The last time I purchased a Mac was 6-7 years ago - an iBook - and it came with Appleworks included. I'm planning to purchase a 21.5" iMac and it doesn't seem like anything like Appleworks is included. Am I correct to assume that I must purchase iWork or Office separately?
    Thanks...

The old copy of Appleworks that you have will, indeed, work with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 I have a copy of it which dates from 2004 on my machine and it works quite well under Rosetta. I have it updated to the last available update, 6.2.9, which you can download from here if you need it:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/appleworks629formac.h tml
Since you already have that copy of Appleworks left over from your old machine, and you are used to using it, you could give it a try after updating it if it needs it. You can then compare using it with Kenichi's suggestions and go with the best choice.

  • Is Tiger retail 10.4 install DVD suposed to come with ilife?

    Hi,
Just bought a secondhand version of retail 10.4. Tiger to install on my Powerbook, G4 1.33ghz (only 1 GB RAM as other RAM doesn't work) - as i wanted a better imovie and garageband performance than my panther ones. I have installed it and was under the impression that it was 'all in' like on panther, but there isn't any ilife! Even tho the manual talks about it as if they were part of the package. Have i been ripped off? should there have been abother disc in the box or does it just NOT come with ilife?! I tried to open the panther install discs so that i could get the old garageband etc but it seems like i have to install oSX 10.3. to get to the apps...I'm so lost- is there anything i can do or do i have to go and buy an ilife from 2005/6 - if so what do i look for? and is it worth it?!
    Thanks

    Have i been ripped off?
    No.
should there have been abother disc in the box or does it just NOT come with ilife?
It doesn't come with iLife except for the free iTunes.
I tried to open the panther install discs so that i could get the old garageband etc but it seems like i have to install oSX 10.3. to get to the apps
Mac OS X 10.3 retail doesn't include GarageBand. If those disks came with the PowerBook, perform a custom installation of it.

  • Does the new computers come set up to use floppy disc

Does the new computers come with floppy disc use capability

    Preed, welcome to the forum.
It is difficult to find a newer computer with a 3.5" floppy drive.  In fact, most companies don't even offer them as an option.  Personally, I don't want any more components in the case than necessary.  I purchased an external 3.5" floppy drive.  Since I have only needed it a few times, it works fine for me.

  • Does the new MBP not come with any cd's?

Does the new MBP not come with any cd's (startup discs, etc).  It does have Lion installed

Yes.  New school does not need them. There is a Recovery partition build into the new Lion OS that takes the place of DVD's.

  • Does my new macbook air come with ilife (SandyBridge i7)?

Just bought a new mac and was wondering if my new macbook air come with ilife (SandyBridge i7)?
No CD's in the box... Do I just download it from the Appstore?
I thought it would at least come with the Air I just bought...
    Thanks in advance...

According to Apple, your new MBA should include iLife: iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand. The user guide says they should be on the system.  Systems that come with Lion no longer include OS X DVD's.
