Does a replacement charger run the risk of killing power supply

I have an ibook g4 and i just had to buy a new battery but it won't charge...the old one wasn't charging at all, and the new one won't either...i had to buy a replacement charger a few years ago, then about 4 months after that the computer stopped working.  When i brought it to get fixed, the man had an original charger and said the computer worked fine when plugged into that, but he never used the charger i supplied...should i ebay an actual charger that goes with it? the computer works fine except this power supply problem, first it would shut off after a day, then it would only last an hour, then 20 minutes, then sometimes only work when the battery was out and charger plugged in.  now it won't even do that...HELP lol, i don't wanna get rid of this computer!(i use a mac mini now, but want my laptop back)

Have you tried resetting the PMU?
The PMU (Power Management Unit) controls the charging function, so resetting it may help.

  • Why does my FP-1600 take a 24V .5 Amp Power Supply and drop the Voltage to 11V at .5 Amps?

I have a FP-1600 connected to 4 FP-TB-1 bases. 2 FP-AI-100, 1 FP-TC-120, and 1 FP-AO-210 modules. I am powering the FP-1600 with a 24 V .5 A power supply. There are no devices currently connected to any of the modules. The power supply should be supplying 12 W, which should be enough to power the FP-1600 and the 4 modules according to the power requirement calculation in the manual P = 7 W + 1.15*#modules. When I install the third module, the FP-1600 stops communicating. Checking the power supply I see that the voltage drop across the power terminals on the FP-1600 is only 11V and then measuring the current being drawn it is .5 Amps, which is only 5.5 W, not enough to power the devices. When I unhook the power supply and measure the Voltage it is 24 V.
Why is the FP-1600 dropping the Voltage to 11V? Should I just purchase a 12V 2 Amp power supply?
    Thanks for any help
    Jeremy

    Hello jqk,
You got it figured out. The maximum current that can be drawn is .5 which is too small. As the current being drawn approaches the maximum allowable current, the voltage will begin to drop. Eventhough the current you measure is .5A, the fact that the voltage is 11V means that the circuit requires more current to function properly.
As a rule of thumb, you want the maximum current your power supply can deliver to be at least the double of the system's maximum current consumption.

  • The output of a power supply in labview using a Magna Power LXI over RS232 to simulate a periodic voltage.

How can I toggle the output of a power supply in labview using a Magna Power LXI over RS232 to simulate a periodic voltage?  Any help would be apreciated?

    LXI is Ethernet communication.
Does the power supply have an RS232 port?
Are you looking for an RS232 to Ethernet (LXI) Converter
    https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=rs232%20to%20ethernet%20ip
But to simulate a periodic voltage you need to send the SCPI "Source" command to the power supply in a loop.
Changing the Voltage setting in periodic value.
How fast of a periodic voltage do you need?
You may be limited to how fast LabVIEW, Windows and your power supply can respond to commands.
Use VISA writes. It is the same for LXI as it is for RS232. The LabVIEW code would be the same.
After you select the corrent VISA Ref, either a com port or an IP address, LabVIEW does not care if it is LXI or RS232.
From a Magna manual I found
    Command Syntax
    [SOURce]:VOLTage[:LEVel][:IMMediate][:AMPLitude] <nrf+>
    [SOURce]:VOLTage[:LEVel]:TRIGgered[:AMPLitude] <nrf+>

  • How to use the Camileo H30 with Power Supply

    Hello
First: excuse my english, im from germany ;)
I have a Camilio H30. its was boughted used. I only got the camcorder & the original battery.
no extras (like usb cable or original power supply)
what i want: i need to film over some hours. The Battery cant make it. so i wanna use it with a power supply but when i put it in (throughh the mini usb a connector) the camcorder goes to charing mode (no actions are possible) but i want to use it fully functionality when power supply is connected.
how do i handle it ??
i got a power supply with 5V an 2,25A , i think its enough... or not??
The Label on the bottum side from the camcorder tells me 5V 2A....
    Thanks 4 helping me :D
    greetz

oh ok i thought this is possible because in the main manual at the part when the display icons being explaind they show a full, half-full, emtpy- battery and a power connector icon. they call it "gleichstrommodus" sorry i have only the german manual. in english it should be co-corent flow mode or ac power mode.
im looking for a way to make the cam work with power supply only. i dont want to charge or even use the battery because i film over few hours ago and for that i dont need it.
my old dv cam works when the battery was plugged out with ac adapter only. thats very nice for me.
whatever. if this is not possible i sell this cam and buy another one ;)
    thanks for your help !

  • Does OS X automatically run the maintenance scripts?

Can someone tell me if OS X (10.6 or 10.7) automatically runs the Daily, Weekly and Monthly maintenance scripts when my computer is asleep? If not, does OS X cause these scripts to run at the next point when the computer awakes?

Yes, Apple fixed that issue that they would only run in the early AM when most users have their machines off/sleeping and clog the machine up.
No need to worry about having to do anything anymore unless you have a glitchy issue, then the free OnyX will clean your machine's caches out nicely.

  • When doing a 'battery replacement' service, does apple replace it with the same quality Ipad? mine has 3G

I learned Apple replaces the whole Ipad when you need a new battery(for a fee) but doesit replace it with the same specs? e.g. memory and 3G capabilities.

You should get an exact replacement.

  • Replacing the MSI Mega 865 Power Supply

Has anyone attempted to replace the power supply on the MSI Mega 865?  Is it ever suggested?
I am currently looking at the following (http://www.tomshardware.com/firstlook/20040720/index.html) as a possibility, but I seem to recall that there is a special connection that is necessary for the HIFI 'always on' functionality.
If you have successfully replaced the power supply, what product did you use?

Interesting, does that mean theres a possibility for modifying an existing PSU so that it also supplys 12V (i wouldnt be able to do this tho, dont know enough about this stuff  )

  • I replaced the logic board and power supply in my iMac and it's still dead.

Recently lighting hit my friend's house and his iMac was plugged into an outlet. It did frie the power supply. I replaced it and the logic board. The first two LEDS on the logic board light up green so I know it's getting power. However it still wont boot. A white light flashes in the bottom right corner and the fan kicks on and then off. I've tried reseting the PRAM and SMC and now it wont do anything at all?

The strike could have written everything off in the computer or if the part still works it still could be damaged and cause hard to identify problems or fail within a short time.
rkaufmans advice holds true, either take in it for service or probably write it off on the insurance. It is quite likely it is beyond economic repair.
If the strike was close by, sometimes not too much gets damaged but a direct strike, the ones I have seen have wrote the machines off.
Also do you know the provinence of the replacement parts, have you seen them working and know they are good and a direct replacement?

  • Will the MBA Magsafe adapter/power supply work on an MBP?

Similar, but inverse question to this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6167022
From looking at several high res photos online, I can see that the MBA angled plug may be physically identical to that of the MB and MBP. So, mechanically it's all good. What about electrically?
I don't really care about needing to charge the battery at the same rate as the 85w supply. I just want something smaller for use during class (3-4 hours); I usually charge my Macbook Pro overnight anyway (or keep it plugged in).
Thoughts? I suppose I'll have to go to an Apple Store with my 'Pro and figure it out in person otherwise.

I'd be VERY wary of doing this. No problem using an MBP charger (with its higher possible capacity ) on the MBA, but using a lower capacity power adaptor might result in overheating and consequent damage to the adaptor, with the further slight possibility of shorting resulting in the high voltage side making its way to your MBP , with disasterous results .
Pulling out the battery when using the MBA adaptor might let you just about get away with running it safely, but I personally wouldn't risk it. I don't even like to use our 60W MacBook chargers on the MBP.
(I see in the other thread that some people are suggesting that the 85W charger might "overpower" the other computers. As ricktoronto has suggested there, this simply isn't so. The excess ability simply won't be used.
Using a low capacity charger / supply, like the MBA one, in a situation of high demand , on the other hand, can result in real problems, Overload can result in internal component failure or fire in the power supply. My bet is that Apple products will be pretty well protected against such things though).
    Cheers

  • What are the dimensions and specs of the 3000 Series H210 Power Supply? Can I upgrade it?

    Power Supply Specs

Is is possible that the power supply was fried and not other essential parts?  Would it be worthwhile to replace the power supply?  Can I, with limited experience and tools do it or need I take it to a technician?  My concern is that if the hard-drive is good, there is personal information on it that I don't want to risk
Quite possible, but working on iMacs is not easy, & PSU might be prohibitive.
Hopefully the Drive might have info on it, but even pulling that out can be a chore.

I have replaced the iPod but have not tried to restore the iTunes library to it because of my confusion about how to do that.  Can anyone tell me how I might do that or give me any insight into the process?
I'd get an external drive & restore the whole works to it, then boot from the External drive.
