Does a router "cancel out" OS X Firewall?
I'm using a Wireless Belkin router with a Mac Pro running 10.7 on one partition, Snow Leopard on another. I don't have wireless operating all the time; for 98% of the time, I use it as a wired router with the MP..ocaisionally we use wireless.
In a discussion elsewhere, it was stated that the router basically renders the OS X firewall (and "stealth mode" and "block incoming") useless, and that it is the router on which you're relying for all security between the wild and wooly web and your Mac.
Is this the case?

That is correct. No "weakening" is going on. It is just that as long as you are behind the NAT with the router, you are only protecting yourself against threats inside your own house. Nothing on the other side of the router would ever reach you. If, however, you take your machine to some coffee shop or wacky university that hands out public IP addresses, you may want that firewall.

My Time Capsule backups disappeared (blank black screens) and in trying to set it up again I now find that when TC is plugged in and on (green light) it cancels out wifi reception from my router. I am only using TC as a backup not for wifi. Can anybody help?
Sorry, you have lost me since it appears that you have two completely separate issues here.
All that I can suggest is you start over and try to set up the Time Capsule again first...and then, once that is done and the Time Capsule is working correctly on the network....then, try to troubleshoot the separate Time Machine issue.
If you decide that you want to do this, we'll need some basic information:
Make and model number of your modem?

Does anyone know of a way to temporarily route System.out and System.err directly from the console into a String, then set it back to its default to the console? I know how to reroute to a text area:

Hi - I'm building an application using Oracle 10g 9.0.5.2, with ADF/UIX/Struts.
I followed the technique described in the tutorial

In that example they have a page called BrowseDeptEmp. On this page is a
create button, which is linked to a /createEmpAction before displaying the
FormEmp uix page, where the user is supposed to enter new employee data.
So I did the same thing, but I added a cancel button on the FormEmp.uix page.
If the user presses cancel on the FormEmp page, it goes through a 'rollback' DataAction (with a rollback operation dragged on it) and then back
to the main page.
here's my problem:
If the user
1. clicks the create button on the BrowseDeptEmp page
2. Sees the blank form in the FormEmp page
3. Changes his mind (does not want to add a new employee) and clicks cancel
The FormEmp page displays validation errors on the fields that are mandatory in the DB! So the user
can't cancel out of the create page unless he fills in the mandatory fields...!!
How do I cancel out of a create page 1) without entering any data on the page and 2) without getting
mandatory field validation messages?
It must be simple but i can't figure it out....

Is there a commit action somewhere that is being triggered before the rollback?
is your cancel button a submit button?
one way to fix this is to convert the submit button into a
regular button and have the regular button go directly to your DataAction (the one with the rollback).
you can automatically create this button by drawing a pageLink from the page to the DataAction in the page flow diagram. -
I need to do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder (http://store.sony.co...ber=HDRAX2000/H) ..this camcorder model does not have firewire out/input ..it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite A/V video output..
I wonder how can I plug this camcorder to the firewire port of my laptop? Browsing on internet I found that Grass Valley Company produces this converter http://www.amazon.co...=A17MC6HOH9AVE6 ..but I am not sure -not even after checking the amazon reviews- if this device will send the video signal through firewire to my laptop, in order to live streaming properly? ..anyone in this forum could help me please?
ThanxI can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera... is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...

I have a mid 2009 Macbook Pro and i know the Mini-display port does not support audio out but does it support HDMI out? or do i have to buy a Mini-display to DVI and then a DVI to HDMI adapters?
Run MDP to HDMI for picture. Use a cable like this to run sound from your audio out on your Mac to your TV's audio in. That's about all you can do.

Hi. This is my first time posting. My Macbook Pro with Os X Mavericks has been running super slow since before I installed Mavericks so I'm pretty sure it's not the OS that has the problem. It runs slow even if only one app is open, especially if it's a browser, particulary google chrome. If mail is open...forget about it, down to a crawl. I don't know how to read Etrecheck, but was hoping someone who does can help me out. Would be super grateful. :-)
P.S. - Also, it sounds like something is loose inside my mac. How should I proceed?

We have WD form we are calling from GP. We are implementing a cancel button and stuck with the functionality. Already created a sdn post on WD Java forum no results. We thought since the call to the form originates from a GP interface may be you guys have an experience about how to cancel out of the app.
Here is the scenario - GP initiates a process calls formA - PM reviews it and submits it for developer review - developers opens it for a review but in the middle is short of time and want to cancel out of the form so can come back to it later again. So devloper is only trying to close out of the app. We have implemented a cancel button.
Should we need to call a complete method on interface? Or is there any other method there which cancels the current action but leaves the tasks uncomplete?
Please in need of urgent help, your immediate replies to this will be much helpful.

Nothing needs to be explicitly done to cancel. Just leave the screen, click somewhere else, close the browser. GP doesn't hold the state of the action when a user opened it as long as the "complete" is not triggered. In other words, the "processingComplete" method in the IGPExecutionContext is the only one that "tells" GP that the action is completed.
In the above mentionned link, the "cancel" possibility is more or less to influence the process flow (in this process, to break the loop).
To sum up: To leave the task uncomplete, just leave it
