  • How many LUNs does an Solaris Host can support ?

    Hi ,
Anyone can share, how many storage LUNs does an Solaris Host can support? There is any limits on this.?
    Regards
    Siva

It probably depends at least some on the type of HBAs, the driver, topology, and most likely other things as well. Instead of dealing with thousands of LUNs on the OS side, I would highly recommend you have your SAN team start provisioning meta devices instead, to cut down on the number of devices (if you are lucky enough to have a SAN team that is). My company allows me to be the EMC and Solaris engineer, and in return all they ask is that I only collect pay for one of the two....

  • What does ""we are closing out the Pure Networks account" mean?

I received the email saying that "we are closing out the Pure Networks account".
Does that mean that all support for Network Magic will cease?
I am already having trouble reinstalling it.
If support is to cease, please issue a one-time patch to existing users to bypass the verification part of the installation process. That is the least you can do for your customers.
    John

I believe Pure Networks and their product Network Magic is no longer in operation. They pulled down their support and closed their servers a year or so ago. Check this link from Linksys: http://store.linksys.com/Cisco-Software_stcVVcatId553232VVviewcat.htm

  • Does CISCO C3560X VLAN support multiple Network segments which are further configured with HSRP function

    Hi Cisco experts,
My name is Kumagai and I need your expert opinions below.
I am trying to configure one VLAN1 support multiple network segments as below.
(this should be a very straight forward configuration and should be OK, I think ? )
     interface Vlan1
     ip address 172.30.0.0 255.255.128.0
     ip address 172.30.31.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.61.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.71.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.4.253 255.255.255.0 secondary
The only issue that is eating me is the above network segments are using HSRP too
and I am not sure is this possible with a combination of VLAN1 supporting multiples which are
further supported with HSRP settings in Cisco environment.
    !example of HSRP:
    interface Vlan4
     ip address 172.30.4.253 255.255.255.0
     no ip redirects
     standby 4 ip 172.30.4.254
     standby 4 priority 105
     standby 4 preempt
<<< what will happen if I add the HSRP configuration as below into the above VLAN1 with multiple Network segment ??)
I would like to summarize my "Combined" configurations as below but I need your expert opinions on
whether the configuration below is workable without any problem ??
Or it is a total flop because Cisco does not support the configuration below !!!
     interface Vlan1
     ip address 172.30.0.0 255.255.128.0
     ip address 172.30.31.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.61.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.71.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.4.253 255.255.255.0  secondary
     standby 30 ip 172.30.31.254
     standby 30 priority 105
     standby 30 preempt
     standby 60 ip 172.30.61.254
     standby 60 priority 105
     standby 60 preempt
     standby 70 ip 172.30.71.254
     standby 70 priority 105
     standby 70 preempt
     standby  4 ip 172.30.4.254
     standby  4 priority 105
     standby  4 preempt
    Thanking you in advance !!!!!

    Hi,
As far as i know we dont set the ip helper address on the radio interface. It should be on the L3 interface of corresposding VLANs i.e.
    int vlan 20
    ip helper-address 192.168.33.xxx
    int vlan 60
    ip helper-address 130.20.1.xxx
I'm assuming that your using SVI's (int Vlan 20 and int Vlan 60) rahter than physical interfaces. Also hope you have configured switch port as trunk where this AP is connected.
Modify the AP config as below since you are using data vlan as the native vlan
    interface Dot11Radio0.20
    encapsulation dot1Q 20 native
    interface FastEthernet0.20
    encapsulation dot1Q 20 native
Ideally your AP fastethernet configuration should looks like below and not sure how you missed this as this comes by default when you have multiple vlans for multiple ssids.
    interface FastEthernet0.20
    encapsulation dot1Q 20 native
    no ip route-cache
    bridge-group 20
    no bridge-group 20 source-learning
    bridge-group 20 spanning-disabled
    interface FastEthernet0.60
    encapsulation dot1Q 60
    no ip route-cache
    bridge-group 60
    no bridge-group 60 source-learning
    bridge-group 60 spanning-disabled
    Hope this helps.
    Regards

  • Does solaris dhcp server support user class

Does solaris dhcp server support user class(option 77). In my environment, solaris dhcp server seems just ignore this option set in the client dhcp discover.
    Does anybody can help me.

The clients are all Windows 7 x64 (but I've replicated the problem on MacOS and Solaris clients). The server is Solaris 11 x86.
For the problem to be the ARP cache, wouldn't the client's MAC address have to change during the reboot (i.e. the change in the client's MAC address is what causes the ARP cache to get confused, and hence the client gets blocked because of the MAC mismatch)?

  • Does airport express support guest network

i have a client with an airport extreme (802.11n/4th gen) and an airport express (802.11n/1st gen). the express is located in an outbuilding, connected to the extreme via powerline adaptors, and configured as wds (that is,  the express broadcasts the ssid of the extreme and just provides a wireless connection since the extreme's signal doesn't reach that far). it works well in terms of having a seamless connection as devices move back and forth between the two buildings.
as this is a business, they have asked to have the guest network functionality on the airport extreme enabled so that visitors can have internet access, but no access to the office network. the airport express in the outbuilding needs to support both networks (office and guest). as i don't have a lot of experience with apple networking products, i thought it better to ask before i start playing with the configuration.
can the express provide connections to both networks in wds mode? if not, is there some way to configure the airports so that both networks are available thru the express and there is limited necessity for user response when moving between the two buildings (that is, if the express has to have its own ssid/dhcp/??? ?
    any and all suggestions welcome.

The 1st Gen AirPort Express does not have Guest Network capability, so it cannot be used for the purpose desired by your client.
A 2nd Gen AirPort Express, which does have Guest Network capability could be used to extend the Guest Network that is provided by the AirPort Extreme. This assumes that the AirPorts are running up to date firmware and you are using AirPort Utility 6.x to configure the devices.

  • Solaris 10 & Hardware Support

I understand that Linux depends on the communities support to develop drivers for hardware that isn't supported by the manufacturer. How does Solaris stand with support from manufactures, and support from Sun or popular manufactures. I'd like to install Solaris 10 on my x86 desktop, but if it can't support my nForce video chip then there isn't much of a question that I would stick with Linux.
Is it possible, specifically for an nForce video chip, to get just video that doesn't necessarily take advantage of graphic acceleration?
Since nVidia is partnered with Sun to bring some of their high-end cards to Solaris, should we expect to see some of their other hardware supported also?
I'm curious about other hardware as well, such as Ethernet cards, or sound cards. Is it really feasable to run Solaris on a desktop PC, or does it need to be dedicated Solaris machine that was built from the ground up with support in mind because supported hardware is so scarce?

The answer isn't easy to find, because the breadth of the
    problem is wide.
    As I write, I'm on an Athlon-64 running a NVidia nForce3
250 Gb chipset. Does it work? Yes. Does everything work?
No. There are some parts of the chipset which don't have
Solaris drivers yet. Unfortunately, NVidia also keeps their
driver source close and even for Linux they don't release
the source code. In my case, neither the network nor audio
drivers are available. It may be difficult to get the Solaris drivers
ported unless NVidia does the work. AFAICT, that is not
part of the Sun/NVidia announcement, though I'd be happy
    to be proved wrong.
A number of sound cards do have drivers. On this machine,
the NVidia audio driver is not recognized, but I have an iMic
USB audio dongle that seems to work well.
For Ethernet, I have an old Rhine-based card (D-Link). A
driver for this, including the needed 64-bit amd64 driver :-),
    is a available from
    http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/eng/
Some other vendors offer Solaris drivers directly, so you'll
find some have more support than others.

  • VRO - EMC Networker 8.1 EBR Appliance integration. Experiences?

I've asked the question on the EMC support forums, btu maybe there's a chance to tap on some knowledge on the topic here: has anyone made experience with integrating the EMC Networker Appliance into the Orchestrator?
Recently I have  deployed the EBR Appliance in my vSphere environment, now I want to automate adding\removing virtual machine to and from the backup policy.
The VMs are being provisiond using vCAC and the vRO. Now I want to allow the VM owner to optionally add the VM into a backup policy. I would need a vRO workflow to talk to the EBR Appliance API so the particular VM would be added.
I could not find a documentation for the EBR Appliance API anywhere, nor a EBR plug-in for vRO.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for answering so quickly!
About the procedure you have mentioned:
    1. Note down the process that you want to automate, and how you do it manually now (you mentioned the first part, I assume currently a Backup Operator adds the new VM to a backup policy using the Networker UI, whatever that is)
The EMC appliance integrates into the Web Client - this is the only interface you can use AFAIK. There you can tell EMC Networker (with the whole Server, DataDomain backend) which VMs you want to back up. You can choose a cluster or resource pool and back up the whole inventory element too. I administer the whole vCenter\vCAC\vRO combo including the EMC Appliance - the appliance itself however has very limited options though. You can basically only add VMs to a backup policy and restore them. The rest (liek creating new backup policies) is done by the Backup Admins on the Networker Server.
    2. See if the vendor provides a vRO Plugin, if so, check if it provides your functionality
EMC does provide some plugins, but none of them are strictly backup related and cannot talk to the backup appliance (or, for example, VMwares' VADP)
    3. Check if the vendor provides some API  / Automation tools (didnt find anything for these two points)
Nope, sadly. I'm waiting for someone to answer on the EMC forums, next week I'll ask one of the Backup Admins to open a SR at EMC, maybe we will get some useful info. The product documentation says that the Web Client is the only way to manage the appliance, but I don't know if this includes direct access via the API or not. This is really frustrating:(
    4. & 5.
The EMC Backup appliance is "VADP Appliance by EMC", a third-party VADP based backup solution.By that I mean that it's VADP with the EMC Backup Infrastructure access integrated. So the whole backup planning jobs are done on the EMC Networker backend, not the appliance itself. The GUI is even the same:
So, I guess, the API access would function similar as with VADP? Sadly I have not yet made experience with it.
    6. Worst case (...)
I thought an alternative would be to create a new ressource pool, tell the appliance to back up every vm in there, and just move a vm in or out of the pool according to the vm owners preferences. This move can easily be automated. But, I've tested this jsut now and altohugh, after moving a vm into the pool, the appliance says it will be backed up, it throws an error during the backup job :| Meh.
Is it possible to automate backup tasks on the native VMware VADP appliance using the Orchestrator?

  • Are SVM metaset support EMC Powerpath?

    Dear All,
I would like to know Solaris SVM support EMC Powerpath or not?
After change the config by follow the EMC powerpath manual. The SVM can create metadevice by using emcpowerxa.
    #metainit d0 1 1 emcpower0a
But it still can't add disk to metaset
    #metaset -s test -a emcpower0a.
Have any solution of this problem?
    Thx a lot!

    you can:
add this line in /etc/system :
"set fcp:ssfcp_enable_auto_configuration=1" (do not include quote marks)
    Or / and
edit the /etc/rcS.d/S24powerstartup file before you boot the host. Add
the following lines to the bottom of the file after the last fi
    characters. Type:
    /etc/powermt set volume_open_policy=firstpath
    echo "PowerPath:powermt set volume_open_policy=firstpath"
On boot, the first path policy used by CLARiiON storage systems
    takes effect.
    CAUTIO! N
Do not execute powermt set volume_open_policy from the
command line during the same boot session where the
/etc/rcS.d/S24powerstartup file that contains this command is
also in effect. Doing so can cause the first path setting issued from
the command line to change to a different device. The previous first
path device (in use by VxVM) could become unusable, leading to
    I/O errors.
