Does a Sony HDR SR10 work in FCE?

Hi
I'm thinking of replacing my wife's Sony DV camcorder with a HD device. I thought the SR10 would be perfect until I looked on Apple's list of compatible devices and it was missing - I assume thats the end of the road?! I only ask as I just read a post by someone hinting that it would work and the AVCHD from the Sony is readable by FCE...
Andy

3.5.1 can't do it.
Version 4 adds AVCHD functionality as long as you have an Intel Mac.
2 gig RAM is nice.

  • Sony HDR-SR10

I was wondering if anybody had any luck importing video into iMovie '08 with a Sony HDR-SR10.

I have the HDR-SR11 which is just the step up from your model, with only a few minor changes. This camera works fine with iMovie 08 using USB cable. iMovie recognizes the camera. It does import 1920X1080i also after you select the preference to allow that. The media browser makes lower resolution exports simple.
All that resolution doesn't do you much good though when it comes to high res export. The export to AppleTV option takes it all the way down to 960X540, and no way to customize that setting for 1280X720. Even with QT export with proper specs no matter what can't seem to get the file to sync, says non supported file but you can get higher res with a custom export like that, oh well.

  • [Help Request] Log and Transfer with Sony HDR-SR10

    Hello Everyone,
I am very new to Final Cut Express and I am trying to import the clips from my camera (Sony HDR-SR10) to Final Cut. Here are the settings that I have for FCE and the camera:
    *Easy Setup*
    Format: Apple Intermediate Codec
    Rate: (all rates)
    Use: AVCHD-Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i60
+settings found in this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9162394)+
    *Camera Settings*
HD FH (AVC HD 16M (FH)
Then I mount the camera on the desktop. Then File > Log and Transfer. However, no clips appear in the viewer. I have tried adding a folder to the Log and Transfer window, but no clips show up. I have about 30gb of footage on my camera, so it's not like the camera is blank or something.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Sincerely,
    Jon

    Jonathan,
    In addition to Tom's advice...
I have an SR-11 which I believe is nearly identical to your's. Do you have any SD video on your camera? If you do you may have to erase these clips. When I first started using FCE, I had to get rid of any SD footage I had before FCE would display my HD clips in the Log and Transfer window. Fortunately I only had a couple of test clips in SD, so erasing them wasn't a big deal. I don't know why this happens, but since I only shoot in HD mode I never looked into in further.
Additionally insure your playback mode is set for HD and not SD (I don't have my camera with me right now, but if I remember correctly there is a selection in one of the menus for this).
    Hope this helps a bit.

  • No longer able to import movies from Sony HDR-SR10

I have a Sony HDR-SR10 camera. I have previously been able to import videos from it to iMovie '08, but now I always get an error :
    *An Error Occurred During Import*
There was a problem importing 1 of 1 clips from your camera. Please review the imported movies carefully.
I can't think of anything which has changed since when I was able to import movies, except that I have upgraded to Snow Leopard.

Hi Winston, thanks for your answer. It's a bit worrying to hear about having to format the camera every now and then' I haven't formatted it since I bought it 18 months ago...
No, I don't have any other software that can convert the videos. Is there any free software which can do it?
I did try repairing the image database on the camera, but it didn't help.
I don't know if this is clear from my previous post, but none of the clips on the camera can be imported; it's not just some of them. There are hundreds of clips on the camera...
Sony have told me I should upgrade to iMovie '09; do you know if this is likely to help? Could the problem be caused by running iMovie '08 on Snow Leopard?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Will my sony HDR-TD10 work with FCPX

will my sony HDR-TD10 work with FCPX

    Probably.
"iMovie supports standard and high definition video, as well as the most popular formats, including DV, HDV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and even AVCHD."
    microMV is recording in MPEG-2.
Bring your camera to your Apple dealer and try it out.

  • Sony HDR-SR10 Handicam

Just got this today so might be doing something wrong.
When I connect this camcorder iMovie doesn't open automatically.
Have to do it manually. Came with software for a PC, I have a PC so probably can do it on PC but rather use the mac software iMovie. My iMovie 2008 has the latest update from apple.
    Any suggestions...???
    Tony

Hi Tyson. Sorry for the delay in replying. I've been away on holidays for the past week. Here are a few thoughts.
iPhoto will open if you have any stills recorded on your camera. I find this a nuisance so I used [Flexibits Cameras|http://www.flexibits.com> to create a profile for my Sony HDR-SR12 camera to prevent this happening.
MPEG will only be useful if you have recorded SD footage on the camera. It doesn't play AVCHD footage.
Some people have reported that Airport can cause a delay before a camera appears in the Log & Transfer window. Try switching Airport off and see if the camera is recognised more quickly. (It only takes a few seconds on my system.)
Otherwise you can try pointing L&T directly at your camera by clicking the icon at the top left of the L&T window; the icon shows a folder with a + next to it. Then just navigate to your "No Name" directory.
By the way the AVCHD files are those in the Stream folder. Toast 9 or 10, VideoPier or Voltaic can be used to transcode these files directly if you can't get L&T to work.

  • Does Sony hdr-sr11 work on a Mac?

I can't seem to find any straight answers as to whether I've boufght a great camcoder which I can't actually use, or if it can actually be used on a Mac with iMovie. I was under the impression iMovie 08 was the stipultion, I have iLife 11 but nothing really happens when I plug in the camcorder. I select 'Connect USB' on the unit and the HD appears on the desktop. I can seee the stills as jpgs but the rest (presumably the movies) all seem to be exec icons which are a PC file. Is there a way of importing the moview to edit or do I list it on eBay!!?

Just realised, it does work!... you have to have iMovie open - I thought it's launch it when conected.

  • How to make the Sony HDR-HC3 work w/ you Mac.

So I bought this amazing camera yesterday only to find out that true to form, Sony does NOT include ANY cables to transfer video from the tape to a computer (windows or Mac). They only supply a usb cable which only transfers pics from the memory stick.
It does work! NO you don't have to do anything special to the settings as I've read in other posts. All you need to do is go to your local electronics store and buy a 6 to 4 pin (Firewire to iLink (Ieee) cable. The iLink port on your camera is actually at the front of your camera next to the lens (there's a hard to see cover).
Open iMovieHD plug in the firewire/iLink cable. iMovie will instantly recognize your camera. If you have it camera mode, it will record. If it's in VCR mode, it will import the video.
Once the video is imported. SAVE your movie immediately because as soon as you do anything, it crashes. Open iMovie back up and the movie is there, edit, play, etc.
However I'm getting FinalCut tomorrow. iMovieHD just isn't that great of a program after all.

I have the MSI DVD DR-8A and i've already burnt over a dozen HD-burn CDs without any problem
My only road block was to find how to use it with nero (it is presented as a different type of disk), but after i read nero doc and chose the right option, it has been flying. I'll report on my media later (i dont have them here).
    Edit: I've used
     - FujiFilm CDR 80minutes 24x
     - Memorex CDR 80 mins 48x
No problem with either, burnt at the maximum 24x HD burn speed.
My only gripe with HD burn is that it does not allow any overburning. Not a bit over the 1400Meg limit. not a big problem, though.
Also, be cautious on WHAT you burn. CD are not a very good archival method. They can degrade quite fast and i would bet that HD-burn, being more precise, is more sensitive to those degradations too.

  • Does The Sony Smart Headset Work With All Phones

Seeing as the Sony Smart Headset MH1-c is a CTIA based headset, it should work with all other phones right? I just want someone to confirm that it can work with the Samsung Galaxy S3.
    Thanks.

That standard is for the headphone jack but as this is a Bluetooth device that is irrelevant when looking for handset compatibility. Please check the bottom of the page here for a full compatibility list:

  • Does a Gbit ethernet disk work with FCE

I am new to video editing and now looking for an external harddisk.
What I have read here a Firewire drive is better than USB-2.
I could not find any information if FCE 4 will work with a network drive, such as the LaCie Ethernet Disk 500GB - with Gigabit Ethernet,
In theory the Gbit connection is faster than FW or USB2.
    Anyone experience?
    thanks, 1000Zen

Network Attached Storage drives (NAS) are better suited to non-realtime file-sharing systems.
If you really, really want to head down this path then things get much more tricky (assuming you have more than one network device, i.e. not NAS directly connected to your MAC via ethernet cable) if you wish to record/play directly to NAS as the network traffic needs to properly prioritised and configured to prevent web browsers, email, software downloads, itunes, etc from interfering.
Not to mention networks are far more painful to diagnose technical issues, particularly at the protocol levels.
As Tom says go with Firewire, much less work is required and much easier to diagnose issues.

  • Does the Sony Smart Watch work with iPhone 4S?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Penny,
    Welcome to the Sony Community.
The Sony Smart Watch doesn't work with iPhone 4S but however it's compatible with most Android™ (2.0 and above) phones via Bluetooth® connection. See www.store.sony.com for details.

  • Sony HDR-CX7 Works with iMac G5???

    Hi,
My understanding is, that from previous posts, that this camera works with an iMac G5 PPC : specifically that pictures can be imported and filed. My question is, what is done with the video files? How do you get them off the camera and where do you store/put them once completed ,since the video apparently is not compatible with the iMac PPCs iMovie 8 version(only intel Macs).
I would like to buy this camera , and want to make sure I am able to some how transfer the video files onto my mac.
    Thanks
    Raff

My understanding is that a machine with a dual intel processor is required to support the decompression required for this and similar programs. I have a CX7 and it is wonderful and worked well with iMovie until the latest update to 7.1.1. Now it will not usually open the import window when you attach it via USB. But if and when Apple fixes that I highly recommend the camera.

  • Does the Sony HVR-Z5E work smoothly with Final Cut Pro?

Can FCP handle a Sony HVR-Z5E camera smoothly?
I have a G5 Mac (no intel) with leopard installed.

Depends on the version of FCP, but most likely yes.

  • Sony HDR-CX560V 1080/60p --- is it supported?

Anyone have any experience with this camcorder or similar Sony AVCHD?

I second this request. About 6 months ago, I bought the same camcorder (Sony HDR-CX560), and iMac quad core, and Final Cut Express assuming that Sony Camcorders would work with FCE. It was a bad assumption and I'm still stinging from the major outlay of cash.
The best way I've found to get my footage into FCE is to import it via iMovie (which sees my Sony camcorder) then bring those files into FCE.  Despite the camcorder supporting 1080/60p, I can't get iMovie to import that footage, so I'm stuck at 1080/30i if I want to edit it. It's not the elegant solution I was hoping for when I forked out all of that money.
I'm prepared to move to FCP X right away if it improves this situation (and some of my HD export quality concerns). First I need someone to let me know if this camera (or one of the similar Sony HDR-CX series cameras is seen by FCP X and allows you to import HD (and hopefully1080/60p) video directly into the app. If it can't then you can add me to the list of people who are disappointed with FCP X, but at least I won't have wasted another $300.
A 30-day trial version in the app store would be a great way to answer questions like these. Any real world experiences which anyone can share would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!

  • IMovie 06/ Sony HDR-HC 9 compatibility

My Sony HDR-HC9 works with iMovie 08, but not 06. My Sony DCR-TRV110E works with iMovie 06, but not 08. Can anyone explain ?

If you're using the HC9 in hi-def mode, then you'd want to create a new hi-def HDV project before importing..
If it's the wrong kind of project, it won't want to import..
(P.S: My various Sonys, standard and hi-def, are all recognised, in iMHD6 and in iM08. So it's not an innate problem with either the programs or the camcorders..)
