Does a VM replicate back to on-premise after failover to Azure

When moving a VM back to on premise (failback), is there anything to keep the 2 VMs synced, for example, prior to clicking the Commit button? Could I keep the VM running indefinitely in Azure, replicating back to on premise, so long as I don't click
the commit button?  If it is replicating back, and at what interval?

When you do a failover from Azure to on-premises then the data is synced from Azure to on-premises. Once you commit the failover, the virtual machines and the cloud services in Azure are deleted.
When VM is running in Azure it doesn't replicate back. Data is synced only at the time of failvoer from Azure to on-premises.

  • HELP! Serious problem: Time Machine does note seem to back up newer files

I have a serious Time Machine issue. I noticed that after the initial backup of about 110gb, it seems to stopped backing up recently added files. Like for example, I downloaded a file into my Desktop at 6 hours ago and the file is still there right now but when I go to Time Machine, the file is not in any previous hourly back ups even though some if them were taken after I added the files.
I also tried ripping a DVD and placed the file into my Movies folder, but the same thing happen. I tried "Back Up Now" to see if the files will be added, but the 700mb file does not get copied. I watched the system preferences and it only copied 5mb of file. Why is this happening?
Also, my when I first started Time Machine backups a few hours ago, my Documents folder has 34 files in it. It now has 48 files with files being added regualrly during the next few hours but when I looked at ALL the hourly backups, they are still showing that I have 34 files!!!
Please help. I have a 500gb External Hard drive that I formatted using GUID partition scheme. It does have a SuperDuper ackup of it of my Tiger. Do I have to reformat the drive and have Time Machine start on a completely new drive?
    Thansk a lot!

I have been having the same problem for some time now and only noticed it when I tried to recover a file only to find it had not been backed up. Brief details
    * The initial backup (apprx 105GB) completes ok - I have checked this
    * Subsequent new files are not added to the backup. I have checked this both via the Time Machine application and manually searching through the backup drive. I have also tried this with different types of files; mp4, xls, doc, text, email messages in mail etc. none get backed up. I have also tried amending an existing file but the amended file is not backed up
    * Nevertheless the console log shows that the hourly back ups are being completed with no apparent problems
    * I do not have any exclusions selected in Time Machine preferences
    * I have not been able to replicate this consistently but occasionally after a reboot I get this console log message
12/26/07 8:23:36 PM /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd693 Event store UUIDs don't match for volume Macintosh HD II
    12/26/07 8:23:37 PM /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd693 Node requires deep traversal:/ reason:kFSEDBEventFlagMustScanSubDirs|kFSEDBEventFlagReasonEventDBUntrustable|
HD II is my backup drive. Time Machine then appears to start a more extensive backup. I do not think it is a full backup as it takes no more than 10minutes. Once this finishes the backup then looks accurate with all files present. However the error then re-occurs and no new files are added to the backup
    * I have spoken to Apple Care but no idea
    * I have tried all of the following in no particular order; repair permissions; reformat the backup drive; delete .plist file; reset NVRAM; alternative drive; force a rebuild of the spotlight database; my host name does not include any odd characters etc etc
All very tedious...any insight greatly appreciated

Hello i am using TimeMachine to back-up entire Mac image (data + system) on an usb-local drive. I would like (on top of it) add a specific plan to back up some files on a remote network drive. Does TimeMachine support multiple back-up plans ? How ?

Time Machine is capable of backing up to multiple locations, and can be used to back up to both a local hard drive and a networked drive (provided that that drive is in or connected to a Time Capsule or another Mac that is sharing it over the network). The catch, though, is that you can't specify different things to back up to different destinations. Whatever you exclude from Time Machine backups is excluded from ALL backups, and whatever is included is included on all.
So, get a large enough drive that you can back up everything you want in all locations, or use something else for maintaining the network backup.

I am the owner of my iPhone 4 and it had not been updating and allowing me to download apps. So I decided to do factory setting, before doing so I had backed up my phone on my computer then I had erased everything from my iphone. But now I want to start everything from the beginning, and on my setting my Apple ID is present however when I put my password in it doesn't let me log in. The message that I receive says that I would have to remove my Apple ID  as it will not let me log in with that I'd even though I am the original owner, I have tried  everything on find my iPhone as well, even there my Apple ID not showing on the devise.
If anyone has had a similar experience could you please advise me on what to do,
    Thanks

You must have the credentials that were used to turn on Find my iPhone on the device. Without them, you can not get past the activation lock.

  • HT3728 Does factory reset go back to latest firmware update.

I have resently updated my airport express to latest firmware. The airport express is configured as an extension to my wifi with an Extreme as main device.
Shortly after the firmware update (1-2 days) the express stopped working and status light turned yellow.
I have since then tried to do factory reset several times without getting the device up and running again.
When doing factory reset the status light turns yellow after releasing the button and stays amber with short interval with green (1 second every minute or so)
I have not been able to discover the express from my iPad, iPone or iMac again.
Could the reaons be latest firmware update?
Any advice to get it back to normal?
    Thanks,

Does factory reset go back to the latest firmware update.
A Factory Default Reset will not affect the installed firmware.
Shortly after the firmware update (1-2 days) the express stopped working and status light turned yellow.
A solid amber light is unfortunately an indication that the internal power supply inside the AirPort Express is failing, or has failed.
I have since then tried to do factory reset several times without getting the device up and running again.
The AirPort Express has failed, and will need to be replaced.
When doing factory reset the status light turns yellow after releasing the button and stays amber with short interval with green (1 second every minute or so)
This is yet another confirmation that the Express has failed, and will need to be replaced.

I'm using a macbook pro with version 10.6.8 installed. Whenever I try to install my software updates, it immediately asks me to restart my computer to finish the installation. After doing so and signing back on to my account, nothing has changed and no updates have been installed. It still says the same 8 items need to be installed, and the same process occurs again. Any idea how I can fix this?

You have 10.6 on that machine, I suggest you stick with it for performance, third party hardware and software reasons as long as possible.
Consider 10.8 (not 10.7) when it's released, because 10.7 and 10.8 will require a new investment in software and newer third party hardware as it requires newer drivers the old machines won't have. (forced upgrade because of software, really nice of them)

My win8 pc hard drive failed.  After the hard drive was replaced, I copied iTunes Media backupfiles from external hard drive (Karen's Replicator backup software was used).  ITunes does not recognize these back up files even though the location is the same as cloud & recently burned music that does show- help!  The backup files consist of 34,000+ songs; almost all burned from my own CD collection.  I do have most of the songs on an ipod classic but hesitate to try to restore from that.  Can someone tell me how to get these 34,000 songs to show up in iTunes?  Thanks!!

This diagram shows how a typical iTunes library ought to be set out (click on it to enlarge)
The red outline highlights the media folder and its contents, the various subfolders are only created if that kind of content is in your library. The right-hand side shows the files that should be found in the iTunes library folder; sentinel is normally hidden so may not be visible. The core of your iTunes library is the file iTunes Library.itl, you need to restore this, the other library files and the Album Artwork folder, as well as the media folder, to restore your library.

how long does an inityial iCloid back up take on a new iPad?

Solution - turn backup off. Just means you will not have a backup to restore from but if you dont have a few hours to wait every time you need to restore the backup and up to an hour to wait every time you sync then you wont care.

  • I recovered my back up via a wired connection. now Time Machine does not recognise older back ups wirelessly and wants to do a first back up

I recovered a back up from my time machine via a wired connection after getting the 'white screen of death'. Now Time Machine does not recognise any back ups on the time machine when connected wirelessly and wants to do a first back up of the whole machine. How do I get my mac to recognise these older back ups? It connects to the wifi network the time machine creates fine, with the same name and password.

    I recommend the following.
    1. Reset the TC to factory.
Universal Factory Reset.. any model TC or AE.
Unplug your TC/AE from power or turn off at the power point.
Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. (this is often difficult without a 2nd person or a 3rd arm).
Release it when the status light flashes rapidly. If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have missed it and try again.
    Note..
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations of the router.
No files are deleted on the hard disk in a TC.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    2. Rename the TC to SMB standard.
That means short names.. 2-20 characters but less than 10 is excellent. eg TCGenx (use number for x that is actual generation of the TC)
    No spaces.
    Pure alphanumeric. No apostrophe.
    3. Ensure IPv6 is set to link-local..
Do the same thing for ethernet if that is used.
    4. Manually mount the TC disk in Finder.
Use Go in the top menu.. connect to server.
    Type in
AFP://TCname.local (where TCname is your new short name for the TC and local is default domain .. it helps using the domain I found).
You will then find the computer either can or cannot find the network resource.. if it fails something else is wrong with the actual network and you will need to fix that.
It will request the password if it is found.. password is public by default unless you changed it.. type in the password and check to keep it in your keychain.
    5. Delete current TM setup and redo it with the newly named TC.
    See A4 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
If your backups cannot be found, try B6 again, now that you actually know that the disk has been properly discovered.

  • Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

I'm performing a normal "Save", not "Save As". Work flow I'm using is as follows:  Select photo in Lightroom 5.7 >" Edit In" Photoshop CC 2014 > (after working on photo is PS) > Save > close PS. Photo returns to Lightroom 5.7 in a new folder rather than next to the original. Prior to purchasing the monthly plan and upgrading to PS CC 2014, I performed this same work flow using Lightroom 5.6 and Photoshop CS6 without any issues.
Just for fun... I attempted to move the edited file back into the original folder. I received a prompt that said the file already existed in the original folder, however I can't see it except the new folder that LR created. I tried several different sort orders, etc without any success.
*** Follow up: Was unable to resolve the issue using Photoshop CC 2014. Uninstalled PS CC 2014 and went back to using Photoshop CS6. Return trips from LR 5.7 to Photoshop is now performing as it should: returning edited photo back to the original folder in LR 5 and placing next to the original image.
Should anyone have a suggestion on getting Photoshop CC 2014 to do the same, I would love to be educated.
    Thanks for the help, dj_paige.

AlsO sometimes I. Cannot hear anything in normal speaker even though the call Is going through and has been re ieved on the other end, I have to enable speaker and then disable it to route audio to normal speakers

I think that it is something wrong with kernel and graphic drivers but i'm not able to solve it from the beginning of using of Arch by me.
I'm not so sure this issue is software-related only because in my case it seems the laptop screen enters power-saving mode (10-min timeout) on its own without any events logged (as shown by dmesg) so my next thought was OK, I'm going to get rid of this issue disabling the screen power-saving timeout in the BIOS and set it to never power down or something like that and from then on managing power mode manually; ie: when I want to power down I will just use systemctl suspend/hibernate which work fine ... problem is: there are no related options in my BIOS for such timeout.
The only timeouts I have are in /etc/systemd/logind.conf set to 30min (#IdleActionSec) (commented) by default so these are not in effect because the screens goes blank after 10m which is less than the (default) 30m in logind. Maybe setting loggind to 9m (un-commented) to catch the event before the machine-default one ?
    IdleActionSec=9min
    IdleAction=suspend
Will check it and report back.

  • Since installing Lion, I have not been able to utilize Time Machine (does not recognize the back-up drive); my wireless mouse does not function properly; I have experienced unreasonable delays in the system.  Is there a fix or upgrade coming?

Is there a fix or upgrade to deal with the many problems I am experiencing since I installed Lion?  I can no longer utilize Time Machine (Does not see the back-up drive); my wireless mouse does not work properly; my iMac has slowed down considerably.  I am reminded of having a PC machine again.  Bummer!

Either downgrade to Snow Leopard or try reinstalling Lion.
    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

why does pages suddenly refuse to save a document back to our server after editing?
and can i specify a default save-as location?

The default save location is the one used to open the document.
The default save_to location is the last used one.
Both are stored in memory and written in the application's preferences file when we close it.
It's quite easy to change the defaults in the preferences file but we must do that before opening the app and if we use an other location once the app is open, we will lost the defined default location.
From my point of view, the best scheme is to use an Applescript to save.
