Does Acrobat XI used w\ XenApp 6.5 conflict with "auto creation of client printers"?

Hey guys,
  I have installed Adobe Acrobat Pro XI on a Server 2008 box running XenApp 6.5.  I've noticed a pattern that whenever Reader or Acrobat v10 or greater is installed the "auto-create client printers" policy does not work.  Our users log in to the web portal and open an app(Citrix hosted) such as Word; they try to print a document, but when looking at the printer drop-down list, none of their local(redirected) printers are present. These printers were available before the installation of Acrobat Pro XI.  Another user noticed this happened previously when they upgraded from Adobe Reader 9 to X.  Please let me know if you have any helpful information.
  I've enabled the following:
Client Printer Redirection(allowed)
Auto-Create Client Printers(all client printers)
Client Printer Names(standard names)
Default Printer(set def printer to client main)
Desktop Launches(allowed)    ***This policy was the only one present before i started troubleshooting the missing redirected printers.
Printer auto-creation event log preference(log errors and warnings)

  • Does anyone here use Asian (Chinese/Korean) inputs & outputs with sharing?

    Hello.
    Does anyone in here read, write/type, and print Chinese and Korean documents, e-mails, and Web pages and use software that use asian characters in datas)?
    In Windows, one can use MS IME -- http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/ime/default.mspx -- and TwinBridge software (mostly for programs that can't display asian characters correctly like in Palm software with asian datas from Palm Pilot and Treo--CJKOS; TwinBridge said they don't do Apple Mac OS X).
    From what I researched online, http://www.yale.edu/chinesemac/pages/osx5.html (latest version) and http://www.yale.edu/chinesemac/pages/input_methods.html show their installations looking similiar to Windows 2000 and newer, but using it seems different. Has anyone had experiences with these? I hope it is compatible with old and others' (especially Windows users) Office documents (mostly Word and PowerPoint), e-mails, and Web pages.
    Thank you in advance.

    Lots of people use OS X for Chinese data exhange all the time without problems. You might want to post your specific questions on the chinese-mac mailing list, where you will have a better chance of reaching people with more experience in these issues:

  • Using iPlanet Web Server 6.0 (with ASP or JSP), is it possible to create a StarOffice, Word or Acrobat document using a template and merging it with data from a database (say Oracle)?

    Hi,
    It is possible, But it has to be done through codes and iPlanet Web Server has nothing to do with it. But if you want to create the word document by ASP you have to install ASP plugin like ChilliASP (from Chilisoft) with iPlanet Web Server.Merging with database can be done through your code.

  • Does Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8 support forms with auto calculation?

    I'm using a preformatted form that contains auto calculations.  When I use it on Adobe reader 11 on my laptop, it works.  However, when I use the Adobe reader app for windows eight the auto calculations do not work.   Is there anything I Can do?

    Adobe Reader Touch (Windows Store app with "Modern" UI) does not support JavaScript yet.   Thus, auto calculations or field formatting will not work.
    If your operating system is Windows 8/8.1 (Pro), not Windows RT, you can install and run Adobe Reader XI (desktop app with classic UI).
    If your operating system is Windows RT, you may want to try Microsoft Reader (the built-in PDF viewer by Microsoft) to see if auto calculations work.

  • Locked files using a Windows 2003 File Server with Mac 10.6 clients running CS5

    We migrated 40 Mac users from OS X 10.5/CS3 to OS X 10.6/CS5 back in November. Our InDesign files are kept on a Windows 2003 file server.
    We have had fairly constant complaints of InDesign and Photoshop files being reported as locked when users try to save their work back to the server. This did not occur as frequently with CS3.
    Has anyone else had this issue?

    I'd suggest starting with iFelix's Sharing files between a Windows XP PC and a Mac running OS 10.4.x

  • Acrobat X Pro will does not open using Windows 7

    My Acrobat X Pro stopped working today.  I'm using the same Windows 7 PC with the same software that I've had for over a year. My version of Acrobat X Pro came with my purchase of Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium. Since this problem started earlier today, I've:
    1. Conducted a system restore on my PC back to last week when it was working fine and yet it still does not launch
    2. I used Window's programs & features "repair" option and that has not helped
    3. I started up my PC in safe mode and that did not help. I've rebooted multiple times and that has not helped
    One solution I found online says to deactivate another CS6 program like Photoshop but when I open any of those programs, the "Deactivate" option is grayed out as not available.  And yet these other Adobe programs launch and work just fine.

    Thanks but none of the options in that KB fix the problem.
    The "Exit Code" was 3 rather than "0" and so it doesn't look like the patch will install.  In terms of the third option, I mentioned in my original message that I cannot "Deactivate" my other CS6 programs because that option is grayed out in those programs.  But those programs work just fine (other than Acrobat Pro X) and so I think there may be a bigger problem with all of my Adobe products.

  • Why does Acrobat XI fail to automatically use a PDX index?

    I've just upgraded from Acrobat 7 Pro to Acrobat XI Pro. In Acrobat 7, if a PDX index file was specified in the (File->Properties->Advanced->Search Index) window of an initial PDF, that index file would be available to other PDFs that were opened by clicking on links in the initial PDF. This was true even if an indexed search was NOT initiated when the initial PDF was being viewed.
    In Acrobat XI Pro this is not the case. The only way to make the PDX index file, specified in the initial PDF, available to subsequent PDFs is to actually initiate an indexed search while the initial PDF is being viewed. If this is not done, once a user has moved off of the initial PDF, the ability to search using the PDX index in no longer available while they are browsing the hundreds of PDFs that are "children" of the initial PDF. The only way for the user to "activate" the PDX index is to go back to the initial PDF and then do an indexed search. Once that is done, Acrobat will use the PDX file for all other index searched, no matter what PDF file the user is viewing.
    As was the case in Acrobat 7, is there a way to cause Acrobat XI Pro to "activate" the specifed PDX index file without the extra step of:
    - doing an unneeded indexed search after opening the initial PDF containing the PDX setup
           or
    - going to (Edit->Advanced Search->Show More Options->Look In: Select Index...)  and picking the needed PDX index file
    In other words, under Acrobat 7, as long as the PDX index is specified in the initial PDF, the user does not need to do anything to have the PDX index available no matter what PDF they are viewing.  Any ideas on how to get Acrobat XI Pro to this?

    You can try changing the scanner's Native options.
    In Acrobat, choose File > Create > PDF from Scanner > Custom Scan.
    1. Click the Options button to the right of the scanner name.
    2. In the Scanner Options dialog, choose Show Scanner's Native Interface from the pop-up menu.
    3. In the scanner's interface, choose the correct input method.
    Thanks

  • Does acrobat has any option to read pdf content objects(stamps, layers, images etc) without using pl

    Does acrobat has any option to read pdf content objects(stamps, layers, images etc) without using plug-in in c#.net ?
    My requirement is read a pdf file and extract all the page objects(stampls, layers and images) along with its coordinates. Is it possible to get without using plug-ins in c#.net ?
    Please hlep me.

    These are very different things.
    JavaScript has some access to layers (called OCG). Layers are just names and have no coordinates to retrieve.
    Stamps may be annotations; there is some minimal access to these too I think. It may be hard to identify what is, and is not, a stamp even with a plug-in.
    Images are part of the actual page contents, and are only accessible to plug-ins.

  • Does Acrobat XI have a compatibility problem with Acrobat 8 SDK?

    I have an Acrobat plugin using the Acrobat 8 sdk. Il works well with Acrobat8, 9, and X.
    It does not load with acrobat XI. There is a NSException that is reaised.
    What in Acrobat XI can cause this behavior?
    Thanks!

    Changes are that your plugin is either explicitly linking with the ADM technology that we have been telling developers since Acrobat 8 that it was going away.  Guess what – it's gone!
    So you will need to recompile your plugin, removing all references to ADM and its HFT.

  • Where does Acrobat come up with the default email address for a form?

    We're testing a form to be distributed for electronic signatures by a variety of clients. I created the original form from a Word document, then added signature fields. I then submitted the form to others, but when they add their signatures and click "Submit" to have the form resent it comes up with another co-worker's name and email address. There's no way to change those fields, and I can't figure out where it is getting the other name and email address. The original document has my name, as does the copy of Acrobat I'm using and the computer that i use to send it. Does Acrobat go to some default manager name somewhere out their in the cloud? Help!

    Have you checked the actions of the Submit button? (I know you were the form's creator, but maybe someone helped or the button was borrowed from another pdf?)
    If you haven't checked already:
    Right click on the Submit button, and click Properties.
    On the Action tab, see if there are actions listed (like in the example jpg below)
    Select the action, then click Edit and see if an email address is there for you to edit.

  • My Daughter likes to create Calendars, as a Document,  in Mircrosoft Publisher; does Acrobat Pro have a similar feature? do make such a document?

    My Daughter likes to create Calendars, as a Document,  in Mircrosoft Publisher; does Acrobat Pro have a similar feature? do make such a document?

    No, but that's not a problem. Acrobat isn't used to "make" documents in the way Word, or Pubisher, or whatever is. Instead, you continue to use Word or Publisher or whatever, and CONVERT the file to PDF. For every change, no matter how small, you change the original and make it again.

  • Why does Acrobat allocate more width for spaces than for alphanumeric characters?

    When I convert a text file to PDF using Acrobat X Pro, I select a fixed-width font.  However, it appears that Acrobat allocates a greater width for space characters in the text file, than it does for alphanumeric characters in the text file.  How do I instruct Acrobat to use exactly the same width for all the characters, both spaces and visible characters?
    This question is actually a re-write of my previous post titled, ‘Bulk Convert Text to PDF with Acrobat’.  I know what the problem is now but do not how to fix it.
    Here's a mock example of the content of a text file.  In the resulting PDF, the H no longer lies directly under the G.  I chose Courier New 8 pt for the font.
        ABCDEFG    ABCDEFG    ABCDEFG    ABCDEFG    ABCDEFG    ABCDEFG
              H          H          H          H          H          H
    Any suggestion will be appreciated.  Thank you.

    If you are comfortable with the settings in the printing, then go back to the PDF Maker settings (create PDF preferences in WORD) and adjust the preferences for similar performance, at least in the job settings and such. The rest deals with how much you want the bookmarks and such.
    I am assuming that those PDF Maker preferences set in WORD are retained when you run the conversion from Acrobat that I have the impression you are doing. Other than that, check the conversion settings in Acrobat itself. They are in the preferences. If you the printer preferences are used when converting from Text (you will have to try to see what happens), it would use the default preferences of the printer, not those set in the print menu of an application. The latter only last as long as that application is open and only for that application. For your need, you may need to change them in either the printer (Start>Printers.. in windows) or Distiller, or both. The printer overrides the Distiller settings usually (another setting on this).

  • Does anyone else use a PDF form to extract data they can then use to populate Dynamic Content in Ill

    Does anyone else use a PDF form to extract data they can then use to populate Dynamic Content in Illustrator?

    You can connect the form to the DB using anODBC connection. This functionality comes as part of Acrobat but the form must be Reader Extended by the full LiveCycle Server version of Reader Extension to allow this in Reader. In your case, if your system is the only on ethat will interact with the DB then this might be a viable solution (but you woudl have to use Acrobat). This solution woudl involve create an ODBC connection in your system then configuring the form to make use of that connection.
    Does that make sense?

  • How to access Acrobat Plugin using GetInterface?

    Hi
    I'm trying to access a C++ plug-in written for Adobe Acrobat from a C# program. Following is my code, which I found elsewhere in this forum (LINK).
    Type acroApp;
    acroApp = Type.GetTypeFromProgID("AcroExch.App");
    object oAcroObject = Activator.CreateInstance(acroApp);
    object[] param = new object[1];
    param[0] = "MyPlugin";
    object pluginRef = oAcroObject.GetType().InvokeMember("GetInterface",BindingFlags.Invoke Method, null, oAcroObject, param);
    Here, MyPlugin is the name of the plugin (without extension) which I've placed in the Acrobat plug-ins folder. But this way, InvokeMember returns a NULL object instead of the expected interface of my plugin.
    What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You don't do it that way.
    You need to use standard "inter application communication" methods such as (but not limited to): COM, DDE, shared memory, shared files, named pipes, etc.
