If a person buys a used iPhone 1.0 will they be required to sign a 2 year contract even if they have an existing AT&T account.

It depends on what you are talking about. If you buy a refurbished (used) iPhone directly from Apple or AT&T, then yes you will have to sign a contract. However if you buy a used iPhone from a friend, family or some other non-Apple/AT&T entity then no you can pay as you go.

Yes you can (unless they are apps that require the iPhone's full phone capability - I have some apps on my iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch
If they are designed just for the iPhone/iPod Touch then they will just take up that sized portion of the screen. There will be a '2x' button on the screen, but that effectively just doubles the size of each pixel in both directions, so it may then appear pixelated.

I'm a Verizon user thinking of bidding on an iPhone 2G on Ebay. Not unlocked. Under warranty. Version 2.0 software. It comes with the original sim.
Two questions:
1. I can just use my computer and iTunes to activate (like the new purchasers), right? Or should I go to an AT&T store?
2. I should be able to get on a month-to-month plan from AT&T. No two-year commitment since they are not subsidizing the phone. Right?

The iPhone is designed for a 2 year contract but you may be able to get a pay as you go plan at an ATT store.

It largely depends on how much money you are prepared to spend.
Your question is much like asking "I have last year's model car. This year, the car has some new features. Should I trade in last year's model and get this year's?" Well, maybe. It's your call.
Each newer generation introduces some new features and capabilities.

Used iPhone 4s - Log Out of previous owners iCloud

Can somebody out there please please please tell me how to delete/log out of/remove the previous owners iCloud account from the used 2nd hand iPhone4s I bought (from car boot sale).??
Without knowing the password, I can't log out of that username's iCloud, remove the account, create new account etc etc.
I have got greyed out options on the iCloud settings page.
Also, more seriously, I am constantly receiving previous owner's EMAILS !!
I asked for advice in my local Vodafone store (I use Vodafone PAYG) and they advised a total phone reset, which I did, but issue unresolved.

Activation Lock is a security feature in iOS 7 and later. Only the person who initiated
the Activation Lock can remove it.
Since you are receiving that person's emails, send him a message using another device
to ask for his assistance. If he refuses, turn the iPhone into the police as the seller
did not have the right to be selling the iPhone and it may be stolen.
There is no workaround for Activation Lock.

Why does my "backing up iphone" freeze when installing the new iOS5

When i plug my phone into the computer it asks "would you like to update to the ios5 etc" when i hit update it "prepares my phone for back up but it never starts the back up. It freezes in the itunes window and does nothing. I have let it sit for an hour before and there is absolutely no movement in the backup status bar.
How do i fix this?

If using Windows iTunes, you may have to set your windows or anti-virus firewall to disabled or learn mode. I dad issues upgrading to iOS 5 with my iPad and this allowed the backup and synch functions to talk to apple. Good luck...

Does anyone else's iphone not let them download new apps or update them?

I can't update any apps or download any news ones. Some of my apps are starting to crash, safari, facebook etc. I haven't restored it yet, I will once I get everything backed up. I just want to know if anyone else is having this problem too

Hmm alright then. my phone also stopped vibrating as well so i would miss calls and txts all the time. But recently everything has been working, i can download apps and update them and the vibrate came back. i have no idea what was up with my phone. it apparently has a mind of its own haha.

Iphone won't let its new owner activate it?

So I factory reseted my phone so I could sell it to my friend that needed a new phone. It is an Iphone 4s and I told him it should be good to go. I went to verizon also and took it off my account so I wouldn't get charged with anything. He went home and called me from a freinds phone saying he couldn't get in, He had to have my ID and password or whatever to get in. I told him it but it tells him he can't get in?? He told me to go to Icloud and delete the device so I tried to go to Icloud but it didn't show the device what so ever all it showed is my new Iphone 5C?? What do you do if your computer is not upgradeable to snow leopard using Iphone 5,
just purchased my new iphone 5 64gb- but does me no good if I cant back up pictures or add my music frm my computer even using icloud. How can I do the things I was able to do with the Iphone 4 now that the 5 will not be recognized at all by my Mac without shelling out thousands of dollar to buy an intel runnung computer just because the Apple software department cannot plug in backwards compatibility to new products such as the iP 5! My computer runs perfectly what am I going to do with two computers if I were to buya new one.

So just called apple for the second time about this issue. First time the tech i got on the phone i think was clue less about the problem. She recommended i buy a cd to upgrade my system and that would fix the problem and my os would be functional with iP5 , iTunes etc...
So i gave her my computer serial and required info so she could look up my system and make sure it would work. I was sold a cd convinced it would work after all apple care techs should know what they are doing right!?
Got the cd in the mail pop it in and nothing, error window saying need intel processor to install this cd contents ***! Yea thats what said today after the second call to apple. I did get another hint of hope from the tech i got on the phone today tho. He really seemed to know his stuff.., so now i fond out apple can replace your processor on certain model computers FOR FREE just pay the parts and you are ready togo with snow leopard and " anything apple throws at your computer" . Going to try this also and will post results soon for all you that may have some hope left...

Upgrade to iPhone 3GS and still use iPhone 3G?

Hey everyone! I've got a 16GB iPhone 3G on Rogers that I got on a 3 year contract last October, and I'm planning on taking advantage of their promotional pricing and upgrading to a 32GB iPhone 3GS for $550. I'm just wondering, after I upgrade and do a restore on my old iPhone to wipe it, can I use the SIM card from the new iPhone to activate the old one, and them remove it and give the old one to my sister to use as an iPod Touch, or will the SIM card that's in the old one still activate it? Or, do they just put the SIM from the old one in the new one when I buy it (Which is what they'd do for any other GSM phone, but this is an iPhone so it MAY be different)? She's willing to pay me $200 for it which will help cover the cost of the new one. I don't mind swapping SIMs to re-activate it after software updates because eventually she's going to get a plan for it which will make it unnecessary... Also, I know jail-breaking it will fix that but I don't want to jail-break it.

Ok, I upgraded my phone yesterday in an Apple Retail Store and this is what happened:
1. They took the SIM card from my old 3G and put it the new one
2. They activated the new iPhone using the old SIM (It picked up my service immediately)
3. They gave me both iPhones (The old one still functioning as an iPod) and the new SIM from the new phone separate
After that I took them both home and after restoring my new phone from a backup (And inadvertently losing some cool videos I'd taken), I used the "Erase All Content and Settings" feature on the old one. Two hours later, it woke up inactivated and requesting a "Valid SIM Card". I simply popped the unused SIM from the new phone in, and plugged it in to my sister's iBook. After registering and accepting the license agreement and all that other stuff, it automatically activated and started to sync. It functions perfectly fine as an iPod Touch with or without the SIM card, but there's no chance of making an emergency call since it's always on No Service (The SIM has never been used). I'm just leaving the SIM card in there so she won't have to hunt for it every time she upgrades it.

As Deggie says, I have been using a micro sim in my 3GS since the iphone 4 came out last year. I was sent one free from my provider as I had registered an interest in the iphone 4 but decided to see out my 3GS 2 year contract. Got the number swapped over anyway and got a sim convterter for free from the provider.
