Does adding music to iPhone reset where it was in shuffle?

So I listen to shuffled music during long car rides, and I prefer it not repeating. Currently it's paused at say 200/500 songs. If I add 100 new songs, will it then reset to 1/600 songs, or will it remember the 200 already played and insert the 100 new songs into the 300 left to play? Ideally, I want it to do the latter, and switch to 200/600, with the new music yet to be played. Can someone confirm how it works? I don't want to test it because if it resets, I have to listen to some of the same tracks in an upcoming drive.

In regards to contact info and calendar events, the iPhone is designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer.
With Windows, this can be with Outlook 2003 or 2007 for contact info and calendar events. For contact info only, the address book used by Outlook Express with XP or the address book used by Windows Mail with Vista - the name change for OE with Vista.
Contact info and calendar events are included with the iPhone backup, but so is other data that is stored on your iPhone. If something goes wrong with the backup, the all data included with the backup can be lost. There may be a 3rd party utility that is compatible with Windows which provides for extracting the contact info from the backup file for import into a supported application on your computer.

    Hi, M_ghaderi.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your device is not recognized by iTunes, I would recommend the steps in the article below.  Start with the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

  • Another question about adding music to iPhone

Apologies for yet another question regarding adding music to an iPhone but I am completely stuck.
I bought a new laptop in January (it runs windows 8). I've authorised it and synced my phone to it before. I've used it to add music before.
Lately I've just been buying music directly from itunes on my phone but I wanted to add some music from my older collection that is on an external harddrive.
I've gone through the process of syncing the phone again, which has wiped whatever was on there. I made sure I'd ticked on the "manually manage music" box.
It's put all my purchased music back but it still will not let me drag and drop music from my external harddrive. When I hover over with the file it has "link" but it won't actually send the music to the phone.
Is there a way for me to do this without putting music on to my itunes library? I don't like itunes and I definitely don't want to add the music to my laptop as it defeats the purpose of having an external harddrive! Sorry for such a long-winded explanation.

Just to add... I've now tried adding music to the library (getting desperate here) and it's not letting me do that either. Just says 'link'.
This is the most frustrating thing ever. Why are the simplest of tasks made so difficult? It seems like it only works if you buy the music from the iTunes store.

  • Trouble Creating New Playlists and Adding Music to iPhone 3GS

Just bought an iPhone 3GS and was manually adding songs to it the way I have with other iPods. No problems. Then, suddenly it wouldn't let me manually add any more songs. It's not a space issue since it's a 16 GB and I only put on about 1 GB of music.
Now, I can create new Playlists in iTunes, but I can't add any songs to them. I also tried adding songs to my old iPod, but that was a no-go as well. Every song I try to add just bounces back into iTunes. Any idea on what may have caused this?

Just re-installed the software and restarted my computer. It appears to be working again, for now.

  • ITunes jacked up album art after adding music to iPhone

After adding some new music to my phone last night, I noticed several files either lost the album art or it was wrong altogether.  This has happened before and it took several frustrating hours of documenting which files were messed up and correcting the album art.  But when I corrected the discrepancy, others that had the right artwork originally got messed up.  So I had to constantly check and recheck to make sure the music had the right art.
The funny thing is, in iTunes the album art 'appears' correct under the iPhone device section.  It's just wrong when you physically look at the phone.  Do I need to go through the entire list of songs on the phone and delete every piece of album art and start all over again?  Just so I don't have to go through 5 or 6 iterations before iTunes gets it right?
We're dealing with 1s and 0s here so what causes iTunes to mess this up?

I am having the same issue. I recently update my mac and then want to update my iphone. I notice my art album on my iphone is all mess up. I check my music on iTunes the art album are correct. What am I suppose to do to correct this problem. This problem just happen yesterday (10/30/2013). Please help because I don't want to go throughout my entire music when it's apple fault..please advise on what to do. Thanks

  • What does deleting music off iPhone do?

Let me start off by saying that I do NOT use iTunes Match on my iPhone, I sync all my music directly to the device. What does deleting the music do off of the iPhone?  Does it also delete it off the computer?  Does it only delete it off the computer if the music is "consolidated" in the iTunes Media folder?  Does it prevent it from syncing on the phone again but does not delete it from machine?
    Thank you

Deleting music from your iPhone DOES NOT delete the music from your computer. It will automatically not sync the music to your iPhone again unless you specifically say so on the machine.

  • HT1386 Adding music to iPhone 5

I only have some music on my computer that I want to drag onto my iPhone, but it's prompting me to sync in order to do that. If I sync, it says that all the current music on my iPhone will be deleted, is there another way around this?

The iPhone will sync with only ONE iTunes library at a time.  If you synch with a new library it will necessarily wipe all media off the phone first, before allowing you to put media from the current library on the phone.  There's no way around this.
You can drag and drop all the music you want from your current computer's iTunes, but all the songs already on there, which are from a different computer, will be erased.

  • Does playing music on iphone waste battery?

just want to know im trying to save battery

Playing music uses the battery but only you can decide if it's a waste of the battery charge.

  • Does adding music work only in iTunes?

I used to use RealPlayer a lot... (when I had a mini.)
But now, when I try to add songs from RealPlayer, they won't show up!
And then when I connect it again, iTunes says it can't read the content and makes me restore the thing (which I've done three times now.)
This is important for two reasons:
    1. I have about 268 songs that need to go on my iPod. ITUNES ONLY LETS ME IMPORT ONE SONG AT A TIME. Currently, only 5 of those 268 are on iTunes.
    2. There's a video file that I made myself that I'd like to add.. (though, to be fair, I don't know if the iPod supports the format -- I think it's .wmv ..)
    So, yeah. That's about it.

Just drag the files you want in iTunes into the iTunes window that will import them all in one go.
As for the video you will need to convert it to the iPod format, try looking for an Application called Handbrake, it should do the conversion for you.

  • Is there a way to access iCloud to find out how much storage space I need to install music on iPhone? Genius Bar was not very helpful...

I have several questions I could not get answered yesterday...
Does the number of songs listed on iPhone represent music available on iPhone or in iCloud.
How do find out how much space of music you have in iCloud you need for iPhone to download all music?
Is there a easier way to get the music available in iCloud downloaded to iPhone without separately downloading each album separately?
Last question...if the music is not downloaded...does it get played at all when on wi-fi?

Both. If you have the setting to "show all music" set to ON you will see all music that is available. If the setting is set to OFF you will only see music that is stored locally on the device.

iTunes Match does not use your iCloud storage.

Music can be downloaded by Album, Artist or Playlist. Or you can disable iTM, sync music via USB, then re-enable the iTM service.

    Yes.

  • I have recently purchased a used iPhone 4, when i plugged it into my pc a skull came up instead of the apple icon.  My pc does not recognise the iPhone, I have tried everything that I can think of.  Has anybody any ideas on how I can fix this?

I have recently purchased a used iPhone 4, when I pulg it into my pc a skull icon appears instead of the apple.  The pc also does not recognise the iPhone.  The phone was originally purchased in March of this year, so it is under 12 months old.  Has anybody encountered this problem and or know how I can fix the phone? Thanks

You have apparently purchased a jailbroken phone.  You can try to get it into recovery mode, then restore as new, but no guarantee it will work.

Also, just updated the phone's software today, and iTunes' software is already up to date.

    Hi Gregg,
Have you tried resetting the device (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if your Music app is behaving normally.

  • Why do my songs and audio books keep getting erased when I add a new book?  Now some books will not play and the iPod does not keep track of where I was when I pause a book, leave for music and then go back!

About a month ago I added some new audio books to my iPod Classic and then after disconnecting, I discovered EVERYTHING had been erased.
I had to restore through my iTunes but then I could not load my music back on.
I uninstalled / reinstalled iTunes and completely reformated the iPod drive.
I successfully got my music and books back on but then added a new book two days ago only to discover everything got erased AGAIN!!!
Of course, my 1 Year Warranty was up about a week before the first incident.....
I formatted the iPod again, uninstalled / reinstalled iTunes (it was freezing during sync) and downloaded all my music and books again.
Now I have several books that will not play (they play on iTunes and they played on the iPod before all these events) and the iPod does not keep track of where I was in a book when I have to stop and go to something else.
Does anyone know what is going on with this thing???  I have a 5th Gen Video and in all the years I've had it, I've NEVER had problems like this!
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get my iPod Classic up and running properly again?
    Thanks.

When iTunes/iPod sync process failed due to timeout, the iPod, has only the initilaised  filesytem structure at the start of the Sync.
The timeout failure could be due to
Bad hardisk - do the iPod disk diagnostic, refer to this excellent post by tt2
Slow USB port or resource - Dont use any USB hub, disconnect all other USB devices while syncing
Timeout due to Antivirus or other plugins - disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus or monitoribng software if you are syncing.
Preferably stop doing other things while syncing this ancient device, which the latest iTunes designer, think will soon be extinct.
    Have a nice day!

I have a iPhone 4 and I was trying to play my music out loud and when I tried it wouldent play. It said i still have headphones in it, but I don't. When I do put headphones in, the music does play! I need help!

    Try a hard reset:
Hold the home button and the sleep/wake button down at the same time. The phone will turn off and then the apple logo will appear. As soon as you see the apple logo release both buttons.
If the issue remains check the headphone jack to see if the water indicator has been set off. if it has you will see a red/orange spot inside your headphone jack and would mean you have water damage and would need the phone to be replaced.
Last option would be to back up your phone and restore to factory settings to determine a software or hardware issue.
