Does Adobe Reader for iOS and Android Support Encryption with PKI Solution?

Hello there,
I have been searching for an answer whether or not Adobe Reader for iOS and Android can read encrypted PDF files by public key infrastructure solution (encrypted by a public key, to be decrypted by its private key pair), but to date I have not found the answer.  From the Adobe web site, I understand that Adobe Reader for Android supports to read encrypted document by AES256 but it does not mention about PKI.  I had to guess that it does not support encryption with PKI but I would just like to get a formal answer, and would like to know whether Adobe Reader Mobile will support it.
Thanks!
Masaya

Hi there,
Now we have Acrobat DC Mobile but I am still wondering if encryption/description using PKI solution (digital certificates) is supported.  Could anyone let me know?  Thank you.

  • Adobe Reader for iOS and Android & Rights Management

This week's release of Reader for iOS and Android devices incorporates support for accessing files secured by Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management.
As you are probably familiar, LiveCycle Rights Management protects sensitive documents by encrypting them with industry-standard AES encryption and enabling central management of their access permissions. Protections persist even when documents are accidentally distributed via email, the cloud, or saved on a lost mobile device.
Many of the core capabilities that you are used to on the desktop versions of Acrobat and Reader are now supported when you are on the go on your tablet or mobile phone. We intend to incorporate additional functionality in future releases of these mobile devices and look forward to your feedback.
We've had several questions thus far about how this works. More information about the product, as well as a link to an FAQ can be found at:http://blogs.adobe.com/security/2011/10/just-released-adobe-reader-10- 1-for-ios-and-android.html

    Hello Jonathan,
is there an way to trigger iOS download to immediately open using "Adobe Reader"
instead of using the default Previewer (showing an plain empty white window) and then re-open it using "Open with" ?
Is there an MIME-Type to indicate IRM-protected PDF-files?
    Thanks,

Does Adobe Reader for iOS have the ability to open inbedded links created with Acrobat Standard to additional PDF docs?  If not, then what would be the best way to use these already created PDF's on an I Pad?

    driddy61,
As of June 2014, none of the Adobe Reader mobile products support the hyperlink action for opening a separate PDF document.
    Adobe Reader for iOS
    Adobe Reader for Android
Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8
In addition, the Reader mobile products do not open multiple windows/documents simultaneously, which would make the navigation between PDF documents nearly impossible. (Once a hyperlink takes you to a different PDF document, you have no way to go back to the original PDF document.)
The only Adobe Reader product that fulfills your department's requirements is Adobe Reader XI (mostly for Windows/Mac desktop/laptop computers).  Acrobat Pro and Standard are paid products.
Because you are in search of a less expensive device for your department, you could get a Windows tablet instead of a Windows desktop/laptop computer. Microsoft Surface Pro (that you've mentioned in your previous reply) is just one example.  You can also find other less expensive Windows tablets.
    Tablets
However, please keep in mind that there are two different types of Windows tablets running two different operating systems.
    (a) A Windows tablet with an Intel-based processor running Windows 8.1 Pro
    Example: Surface Pro 3
You can install and run traditional desktop apps (e.g. Adobe Reader XI) and new Windows Store apps ("Modern" or "Metro-style" apps).
    (b) A Windows tablet with an ARM-based processor running Windows RT 8.1
    Example: Surface 2
You can only install and run Windows Store apps (e.g. Adobe Reader Touch) but not traditional desktop apps like Adobe Reader XI.
In general, type (b) tablets are more affordable than type (a) tablets.  However, if you want to run Adobe Reader XI, you do need to check the technical specification of each tablet and make sure the following conditions are met.
    Processor: Intel
Operating system:  Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 8/8.1 Pro, not RT
Hope this helps you choose the right device for your department.  Please let us know if you have any questions about system requirements or supported features in the Adobe Reader products.

  • Adobe reader for IOS and Dropbox

I have made some changes to a PDF document on my iPad using the Adobe Reader for IOS. How can upload this changed document to Dropbox so I have it available on my other devices. Any suggestions are most welcome.
    Cheers

    Hi Ossi64,
You can send this pdf back to Dropbox by pressing the share button. This is what it looks like on an iPhone, but it is the same on an iPad:

  • Does adobe reader for IOS allow the use of buttons in a pdf document?

I have tried to read a pdf with buttons on my iPad (the pdf was produced by me and edited on acrobat pro to include bottons to show/hide text fields). The buttons do not fuction when I try to read the document on my iPad. Is there a way to get these buttons to function?

It depends on what actions are assiciated with the button. Unfortunately, Show/Hide field actions are not supported at this time, nor is the functionally equivalent JavaScript. At least one other PDF viewer for iOS has support for this.

  • Adobe Air for iOS and Android: FlasCC or Native Extension?

    Hi all,
Who know - what provide better perfomance. FlasCC or Native Extension? For example for Math calculations, bitmapdata modification and etc.

Well nothing prevent you from mixing flascc with native extension.
Also, I think that you can also use domain memory in AS3 with the Bytearray class (not sure about that).
Flascc vs normal as3 is mostly a question of language (portability) Do you want to write as3 or c++?
Native extension give you speed and native platform access(platform specific feature).
So, you should think about it this way:
AS3, run in flash and air. Is sandboxed. Can use domain memory, but it's a bit harder to leverage than flascc.
Flascc, run in flash and air. Is sandboxed, Can use domain memory. Give you the potential of leveraging the hundreds of opensources lib already out there.
Native extension, run ONLY in air. Is not sandboxed. Native memory management. Also let you leverage the c++ lib.
The best (in my opinion) is to write native code for mobile and desktop (no air or flascc involve) and use flascc for the flash/web platform. It's harder, because you have write portable native code (lots of abstraction), but you mostly have the same problem with native extension.

  • Does adobe reader for ios support interactive pdfs?

I have a few i teractive pdfs, but there is no good app to play these on my ipad. Will these interactive pdfs work with this app?

What type of interactive PDF features are you using? We support some interactive features (like forms and annotations as well as some attachment types). However, you'll find that many of the rich multimedia and portfolio features are not supported.

  • When will Adobe Reader for iOS support Livecycle XFA forms?

Adobe Reader for iOS currently does not appear to support XFA forms created through Livecycle. Although it supports some field types, the HTTP submit and Email submit buttons don't work.
Being able to email the completed form ready for someone else to submit would be a work around, however when attempting to 'share' a completed form and send it by email the form is blank when saved and opened in the desktop version of Adobe Reader on a PC.
We are getting more and more requests from ipad users who wish to use our forms, and it seems that some other paid-for apps claim to support this. Seeing as Adobe Reader is the industry standard product for using PDFs could we have more support for pdf forms please?
...or at the very least, a product roadmap with some dates for when this might be available please?

There are two basic varieties of LiveCycle XFA...Static XFA and Dynamic XFA, which are very different in terms of their future for potential support in Adobe Reader for iOS. Which variety of XFA are you using?
Static XFA uses the PDF markup language for content and form fields, so users can view the documents in Adobe Reader for iOS, but we currently do not properly handle filling, saving, and submitting those forms. I have improving our handling of Static XFA on my roadmap, but cannot offer any specific date yet (sorry, policy plus actual uncertainty). I know that there are some other apps that partially support Static XFA, though I do not know how complete their support is. If you can even open the XFA document in Adobe Reader for iOS, it is likely Static XFA.
Dynamic XFA is effectively a JavaScript application packaged inside a PDF wrapper, which generates layout and form fields via code and requires a significant engine to support this. Support for Dynamic XFA is unfortunately not currently on our roadmap for iOS due to the nature of the technology, and our concern that any implementation we try likely will not pass Apple's restriction against installing something that allows other "apps" to be downloaded and executed from within it. The LiveCycle team is exploring solutions for our enterprise customers wanting to use Dynamic XFA from mobile devices as part of their server offering, but I cannot offer any insight here. To my knowledge, there are no applications that handle Dynamic XFA other than Adobe Reader for the desktop platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux).

  • How do I sign, save, and close a completed from in Adobe Reader for iOS?

After completing a PDF form and emailing it from Adobe Reader for iOS, the recipient receives it as a form and can change it. How do I save the form in Adobe Reader for iOS before sending it as an email so that the recipient cannot update it further.
    Thank you.

Thank you George. Are there any Apps you would recommend? I am looking for something where a PDF form can be completed, and perhaps annotated, and then flattened to email to be filed as a record.
    Thanks.

  • New document alert: How to get PDF documents into Adobe Reader for iOS

Opening PDF Files in Reader for iOS (iPhone and iPad) has been very helpful to many users of Adobe Reader for iOS.  However, Apple has drastically changed the user interface in iOS 7, which made the original document obsolete.
According to Apple Developer Support's App Store Distribution page, 89% of devices connected to the App Store are using iOS 7 during a 7‑day period ending June 29, 2014.
Because of the exceptionally high iOS 7 adoption rate, Adobe Reader for iOS version 11.3 now supports iOS 7 only.
Here are the new How-To documents for iOS 7.
How to get PDF documents into Adobe Reader for iOS (iPad on iOS 7 version)
How to get PDF documents into Adobe Reader for iOS (iPhone on iOS 7 version)
(It had to be split into two separate documents because each contains way too many screenshots.)
Hope these documents are as helpful as the original one.
Please let us know if you have any feedback or suggestions on the topics for other help documents/tutorials.

    Dennis (or any Adobe rep),
Any updates to the OP's question? I'm with a large government agency, and we're moving away from GoodReader for reasons I can't go into here, and the ability to add user-defined bookmarks within the app is a mandatory feature for the document reader we select. I have the latest version of Adobe Reader (11.6.1) installed on my government iPad, and the ability to add user-defined bookmarks still seems to be missing. Does Adobe have any plans to add this feature, or is it already present and I'm simply overlooking it?
    Thanks,
    Cam

  • A universal video format for iOS and Android?

    Hello
I have open the Folio that I have originally made for the iPad on a Samsung Galaxy Tab and I see a lot of differences in the way videos are played.
It seems that for the iPad I need to always use the H264 codec, but on a Samsung galaxy tablet this is not the good way to do it. After various tests I see that I must use the F4V format (which uses the H264 codec) in Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5
The problem is that F4V with the H264 codec can't be read on the iPad.
    Thus...
    - Or there is only one method to create video files that can be read on iOS and Android and it would be great if somebody can tell me which app and which presets to use...
    - Or we must always create two different video exports, one for iOS and the other one for Android.
In DPS' s user manual, this issue is not covered.
    Thank you.

What do I need to do to have an answer to a basic question and a necessary issue ? To buy and Adobe DPS Pro licence ? ;-)
Well, you should also know that in addition to getting your questions answered more promptly, Adobe has top secret 'DPS Pro/Enterprise Lounges' in several major cities.  These are not unlike 1st Class Lounges that can be found in airlines.  You get free beer, pretzels, and free wifi.
    Okay, now getting serious:
    1. HAVE YOU TRIED HANDBRAKE TO ENCODE THE VIDEO?  If not, stop whatever you're doing and give it a try.  Conversion software is not all the same.  Adobe's H.264 is better than it's ever been, but it's a pretty well-known fact that Handbrake is the BEST encoder out there for mp4/H.264.  Relying on Adobe to always give you satisfactory results for video conversion is FOLLY.
    2. I've read in several places the Galaxy has trouble with mp4 files.  There's not a million threads with this news; actually only a handful.  Nonetheless, the news is out there.  I created mp4 files for viewing on a Motorola Xoom and they played FLAWLESSLY.  That's the trouble with the Android platform - every manufacturer is free to mess with the code and put their own wrapper over the OS.  Things get messed up, and consistency of platform becomes a problem.

  • Does Adobe Reader for iPad save annotations by/in itself (once uploaded from e.g. dropbox)

Does Adobe Reader for iPad save annotations by/in itself (once uploaded from dropbox I can still see them after closing the app or switching documents)? I lost some valuable annotations while switching documents and apps over time. How do I save them? Only by sending it to dropbox for instance?

    It saves the file when:
    1) The app goes to background
    2) A share action (open in, email, print) occurs
    3) A form submit occurs
    4) You close the document by going to "Home" or "Documents", or open another document
One issue that people encounter is that they open the file in a reader that does not support annotations (like the dropbox PDF view or the iOS Mail app). It doesn't sound like this is the case for you though, since you do see the annotations.
There is a known issue, where on a small number of documents with specific properties, we fail to save changes. This is an issue that we have fixed and will be in our next release. The release is currently pending approval by Apple. It's possible that you encountered this issue, and if so, I apologize.
Info on the upcoming release here:

  • What I need to create and publish a magazine for iOS and Android?

    Hi!
I would like to know what I need to design, create and publish a magazine for iOS and Android. I would also like to know what products I need, what price would you pay and what process I have to follow to carry out this work.
    Thanks in advance!

It is NOT possible to create a Single Edition app for Android. Single Edition apps work only on the iPad.
You can create Single Edition apps using any account—CC, Pro, or Enterprise—and if you cancel your DPS subscription, these Single Edition (or single-folio) apps are still available in the App Store as long as you maintain your iOS account with Apple.
For multi-folio apps, the app container is downloaded from an app store, but the folios are downloaded from the Adobe Distribution Service. If you cancel your DPS subscription, the Adobe Distribution Service basically shuts down for that app. New users can still download your apps from an app store, but the library will be empty. Existing users can still view the folios they've downloaded, but they can't get any updates or new folios.
