Does Adobe Reader need the internet enabled before it will read a document?

For the past two days my internet has been down due to 'electric' storms in the UK. I tried to open a few .PDF files during this time, and they would open but as soon as I tried to scroll down, they froze and said "Adobe Reader is Not Responding".
As soon as the internet came back on, I tried again and they all opened and were 'scrollable'! I never realised that Adobe Reader needed the internet to function before it would work.
Is this normal?

I wasn't aware that was normal behaviour. Most people have laptops that are at some point NOT connected to the internet. One would hope that the pdf reader works regardless, how about all the business users that like to read documents during a flight etc... The examples are countless.
Cheers.

is it possible to run iChat between two computers without using Internet? rather simply over ethernet?

Use Bonjour on your home LAN.
Go to iChats prefs/accounts and enable Bonjour on all Mac's.

Everytime I open my setting, safari or any app that needs the internet my ipad blinks out and does not allow me access.

    1. Double-click the Home button to reveal the Task Bar
    2. Hold the Safari app down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close Safari
    4. Re-launch and test Safari

  • How can I tell if an app needs the Internet to run?

While I understand that I need to be connected to the Internet to download apps, I am wondering if there is a way to deterine if I need to be connected when I use the app before I go to the trouble of downloading it.  If there something that I should look for in the requirements sections?  Or, is there a filter setting that I could use to just look at apps that work independently from the Internet?

Some apps will run fine unconnected, but try to check in to keep stats and whatever if there is a connection.  Not to mention the wonderful in app purchase opportunity.  So it will be hard to get a straight answer.
When you are looking at an app, think about what it does.  Does it seem like it would need a connection?  Like a streaming app?  Or is it a drawing program, that obviously does not.

  • Is it safe to download adobe flashplayer from the internet?T

Is it safe to download adobe flashplayer from the internet. I am new in the Apple environment and my MacBook asks me whether I am sure I want to proceed?
    Thanks,
    T

If you never installed Flash before you should Cancel and download it directly here
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Once it's installed it will perform a update check when you use Flash and a gray window will popup letting you know to update the browser plug-in called Flash.
If you see such a window, you should quit your browser(s) immediatly and if the window remains, proceed with the update.
You will have to quit all open browser(s) anyway to install the update.
You will need to provide your password for the update.
There is a tiny check box on the left that needs to be clicked if the "install" button doesn't seem to work.
If you don't want to update Flash, you should remove it from your computer as older versions are a very high security risk.
It is not unusual, to have what may appear to be, many updates to Flash. It is updated often for security issues. As well as Silverlight.
Bookmark this link to check your browser plug in status.

Note: The white window with "Adobe Flash Player Install Manager" with the "Deny" and "Allow" buttons you will not see, that's security software called LittleSnitch, that I have installed to warn me of any unusual outgoing Internet connections.

  • HT1657 Do you need the internet in order to watch a rented movie?

I understand you need the internet to download the movie but then afterwards does it stream the movie or can you watch it at any time without having internet connection?

No, you do not, not as long as the movie has downloaded completely.

  • Does AppleTV really need an internet connection

Just a quick question - does AppleTV really need an internet connection. I am really struggling with the same syncing problems that many people describe on these forums. AppleTV will show on my devices now and again, it tries to authorise with iTunes, syncs for a while and as long as it is connected and showing in the device list I can view any of my movies, TV programs or music on my AppleTV.
But for some unknown reason the Apple TV fails to sync properly, disappears from the devices list and then tells me that there is no content stored on my AppleTV. Very frustrating as you can imagine. Everything checks out - I have good signal strength, can browse the iTunes store and Youtube but the syncing just isn't working.
I have read about problems with the BT Home Hub that I am using for my wireless network and despite taking the recommend steps to open the relevant ports on the hub to allow my AppleTV and computers to talk to each other properly I encounter the same problems.
As a solution I was thinking that I could buy a wireless router and create a network that is separate from the network that I have for the internet and try syncing through that. I don't really want to spend money on a new router unless it is likely to solve the problem.
    What do you think?

Thanks for all the comments guys.
Latest update: I decided to try it and have had some success. I acquired a basic Netgear wireless router and set it up in isolation from my BT Home Hub network. I used the basic settings wizard and let it do it's thing.
The AppleTV does show in my devices list however it does disappear randomly every now and again. Syncing has worked although for some reason I can only sync one item at a time - leaving me to have to repeatedly hit sync on iTunes, which is irritating but much less than not being able to sync anything at all. I have since dedicated my old iBook to the new network to act as my media machine.
Conclusion: I'm not sold on this as a solution but as I'm not bothered about accessing the internet through AppleTV it suits me for now. I just wish that I had not bothered with AppleTV and just got a MacMini. For all the hassle and the usability issues I would gladly have paid the extra £200 or whatever.
When it works the AppleTV is great but when it doesn't I just want to throw it out of the window.

There is a problem with IE10+ in that it is mistakenly seen as being IE1.  To get around this either use a different browser or use compatibility view (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view#ie=ie-10)

  • How does Imac connect to the internet?

How does Imac connects to the internet?

Through your ISP (internet service provider); once you set up an account with them, you can decide to connect via ethernet cable to their modem, or, if you have a router (which is connected to their modem, you can connect wirelessly.
Is that what you were wondering about or did I misunderstand your question?

Pages is telling me that I need a newer version before I can open my document.  I have the latest version and I am able to open older versions.  Whats up?

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Did you already try to reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data.
If this does not work, try to reset the network settings in Settings/General/Reset. After that you'll have to put in the passwords for all known networks again.
