Does after effects have something similar to "scenes" in Flash?

Hi, total After Effects newbie and I've checked the help and FAQ and some tutorials and can't find the answer. I'd like to create various independent scenes of each section of a movie, that I could later rearrange in the timeline. So instead of going scene 1- scene 2 - scene 3, I might later decide to have them go scene 2 - scene 1 - scene 3. How would I do that? Create the scenes as .aeps and then import them, and drag the compositions to the timeline?

I think you misunderstood Steven's advice.
You only need one project.
Create an individual composition for each scene. (Name them Scene 1, Scene 2 etc if you like)
Create a master composition with sufficient duration. Drag the scene compositions into the master composition timeline and order them however you like.
This is called Nesting. Any changes in the scene compositions will carry through to the master composition.
David's comment is also valid - it may well be easier to render your scenes individually and compile them in an editing application.

  • Does After Effects have a backup feature?

After Effects just crashed on me and I lost my project. Is there any way to recover that project. I didn't save it I know it was dumb of me. I tried reopening After Effects but nothing popped up. I also use After Effects CS5.

The Automatically Save Projects preference in the auto-save category is now on by default, beginning with After Effects CC (12.2).
Note: An even better approach than relying on auto-save is to use the File > Increment And Save command regularly and habitually. The Increment And Save command has a couple of advantages: it allows you to determine exactly when to save, and it does not overwrite previous saved versions. Once you have developed that habit of using Increment And Save, you may choose to turn off auto-save. (That’s what I do.)

  • Does after effects cs5 support jpeg 2000 images?

    HI,
I am using photoshop cs5 and after effects cs5.
does after effects cs5 support jpeg 2000 images?
if not, then  do we have something like encoder or decoder or plugin to make this thing work?
    Vinay

I run AE 8 at work, and I have absolutely no problem with Jpeg 2000 stuff.  I don't see why you would on AE 10.
And if you don't have it already, go download the latest version of Quicktime 7.  Don't get Quicktime 10 or X or whatever they call it: it's a train wreck ready to happen.  If you steel yourself to spend an extra 35 bucks, you can get Quicktime Pro, probably one of the most versatile little pieces of software available.

  • Does After Effects CS4 come with tempaltes?

Our company bought the suite and it was installed by IT. Can someone tell me does After Effects, Encore etc come with templates?
    Thanks

Yes, After Effects comes with template projects. See the
"Template projects and example projects" section of After Effects Help.
If by 'templates' you meant something else, like
animation presets, just say so and we'll point you in the right direction.

My Daughter likes to create Calendars, as a Document,  in Mircrosoft Publisher; does Acrobat Pro have a similar feature? do make such a document?

No, but that's not a problem. Acrobat isn't used to "make" documents in the way Word, or Pubisher, or whatever is. Instead, you continue to use Word or Publisher or whatever, and CONVERT the file to PDF. For every change, no matter how small, you change the original and make it again.

    Thank you...
Ok, so there has to be some other issue, because since I installed it it crashes when trying to download an update... also when I try to run the program I get a message that I can't use it on this system.

  • Does SharePoint BI 2013 have something similar to "loop and reduce" present in QlikView?

I am using Power Pivot as backend and SPBI 2013 as frontend to build a dashboard. I want to know if there is something similar to "loop and reduce" of QlikView, present in SharePoint BI.

Don't know Qlikview as is probably true for more readers of your question, so it's better if you also explain what functionality you need exactly.
I found that QV Loop & Reduce is about parameterized intra-document access:
"QLikView publisher uses the loop and reduce to create multiple documents based on your reduce field. And then when end user access a particular document, based on section access he will see what he is allowed to see."
Ootb, SharePoint doesn't have that, although you can use rights management server (RMS) and combine it with SharePoint. I expect this will cost you some effort to customize it to your liking.

  • Does After Effects CS4 Trial have all of the features?

I was wondering if there is any difference apart from the 30 day limit, in the Trial version and the Full version of Adobe After Effects CS4? Is there any features that are in the Full version, but not the Trial?
    Thanks

The After Effects CS4 trial version lacked the third-party plug-ins and several codecs.
The After Effects CS5.5 and later trial versions do not have this problem.

  • What does "After Effects error: Not enough memory to initialize PSL. ( 83 :: 8 )" mean?

So, about a week ago I did a fresh install of 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate on a new PC, and subscribed to the Adobe Creative Cloud, installing After Effects CS6 and Photoshop CS6 from the Adobe Application Manager, then doing all updates (and I just checked right now at 10:35PM on July 26th, I have the latest versions of everything).
After Effects was working completely normal, then just now, I tried to import a Photoshop .psd and I got the error message:
After Effects error: Not enough memory to initialize PSL.
    ( 83 :: 8 )
Then After Effects crashed. So now it opens up normally, but when I try to import a .psd or open an After Effects project saved from an earlier version of After Effects (CS3 to CS5) I get the same error and a crash, every single time.
Searching the forums, I see people talking about this error when importing .psds into CS5, and they say that getting the latest updates solved the issue for them (which obviously can't help me). I'm running all legit software on a brand new computer with 32 GB of RAM which has passed all my physical stress tests so I know it's not hardware related.
The one thing I saw people suggest is to hold down Ctrl-Alt-Shift when starting the program. When I do this, Windows asks if I want to allow After Effects to make changes to the system, and when I say yes, I can import .psds and open the older AE files. When I close After Effects and reopen it without holding down the Ctrl-Alt-Shift keys, it goes right back to crashing.
Obviously the smart-*** answer is "then hold down Ctrl-Alt-Shift, dummy", and I'll do that for now, but is there any clue what the problem is?
I feel like kind of a chump because I decided to stop using my student versions of Adobe software (I haven't been a student for about four years) and pay the full price for the cloud membership and the latest creative suite, and it's full of bugs.

Now, I get the same ( 83 :: 8 ) error listed above, followed by a new dialog window that reads:
After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was: <4488> <DynamicLink> <5> C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS6\Adobe Premiere Pro.exe
Then, when I click OK, I get:
After Effects can't continue: sorry, After Effects has crashed. For After Effects Help and Support, go to http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_ae_support. If you still can't resolve the issue, please contact Adobe Technical Support (2).
    ( 0 :: 42 )
Clicking OK to that gives me a chance to save the latest project, then the standard Windows 7 crash dialog window opens, the one that gives me the choice of "Check online for a solution and close the program" or just "Close the program" and lets me View problem details, which are:

  • Which system fonts does After Effects support?

Small issue. Not super important. I'm trying to switch my sytem font to Archer Pro or similar and After Effects will not start with any of the ones I choose. I was curious if there is a list of system fonts AE supports or if there was a way for AE to ignore my system font choice so that I can bybass this issue. I'd just like to have a customized system. If there's not a way around this, I'll live. Haha.

AE simply ignores any theme customization like pretty much any Adobe app. The UI libraries are hard-coded and use fonts like Verdana, Tahoma, Helvetica/ Arial - pretty much standard system fonts. As Rick already said, messing with that stuff would be kinda stupid.

  • Why does after effects cs5 not open in yosemite?

i haven't used after effects in a year...but in that time i have installed Yosemite
is this the cause of the app to not open?

    davenokku wrote:
it seems this information should not be that difficult to find out!
It's not difficult to find; it's on the system requirements page.
Now, I have heard of some folks getting CS5.5 (and maybe CS5) to run on Yosemite, but without further explanation from you on what sort of behavior you're experiencing, nobody could really help. For example, some folks launched AE with no difficulty, but with any effect that used an eyedropper to pick colors, it would crash. This was fixed by changing the preferences to use the system color picker. Some folks couldn't get it to run at all.
If you can't get CS5 to run and you can't go back to an earlier OS, you could always upgrade. You can still purchase CS6 from Adobe.
However, since you haven't used AE in over a year, perhaps it's more of a hobby? In which case, the upgrade pricing for the Creative Cloud might be a pretty attractive option. I like the Creative Cloud because you can get the latest version (and old versions all the way down to CS6) for a pretty low monthly fee. If you paid to upgrade every new version, the subscription model actually saves a bit of money. It's also less hassle and much easier to deal with than a huge lump-sum payment to upgrade. Plus you get all the cool cloud features too, like being able to save a project to your cloud folder and opening it on a different machine somewhere else.

  • Does After Effects CC use CompressorTranscoderX?

I am running After Effects CC and do also use Final Cut Pro X although I am about to switch to Premiere. I am noticing some real slowdowns in After Effects when I have let me computer sit for a few minutes and come back to it. When I look at the Acivity monitor when it is busy, CompressorTranscoderX and Adobe QT32 Server are showing as not responding and Red. Sometime, Adobe After Effects is also showing as not responding. I do not have Final cut running and am not aware if AE is using this CompressorTranscoderX? I am creating a video with a quite large 3D model. I am running Mavericks OSX 10.9 and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX.

  • CS6 Premiere Pro and After Effects have stopped working :(

After installing the AdobeCS6 I removed CS4 by using the Creative Cleaner Tool. Now Premiere Pro and After Effects don't work and windows wouldn't tell me what the problemm is. The rest of the CS6 is working fine apparently. Do I have to un-install then re-install all the CS6? Is it normal that the CC Cleaner tool do this? ... Thank you!

Advice around these parts is not to remove older versions after you install a newer one, because this is exactly what can happen.  If you want to get rid of an older version, do that before you install the new one.
So yes, you may well need to reinstall.
