Does AirPlay work with AirPort Extreme?

Does AirPlay work with AirPort Extreme?

The AirPort Extreme does allow AirPlay to "pass-through" but it does NOT support receiving AirPlay streams to be played back through powered speakers or an audio receiver as it does not have any built-in audio circuitry like the AirPort Express models.

  • Does airplay work with airport express without wifi?

I would like to stream music from my Macbook Air to my stereo using Airport Express. However, it is my weekend home in which there is no wifi connection. Will it still work or does Airplay require a wifi conenction to the internet to work?

Yes, you should be able to get it to work. I tried it just now with an older AirPort Express, and it works for me, but the configuration and settings are rather unconventional.
Set the AirPort Express to create a wireless network with no security code— it may work with one but maybe not. Configure the AirPort Express in Bridge Mode with respect to the Internet, and assign it a static IP address of, say, 192.168.4.1.
I made a wireless connection to the AirPort Express from an iPhone 5 and was able to play music from my iPhone to speakers attached to the AirPort Express. Interestingly, the iPhone doesn't actually make a full connection to the AirPort Express but the wireless network name shows up in its Settings.
The iPhone has a self-assigned 169.x.x.x IP address, but I am able to choose the AirPort Express-attached speakers from the Music app on my iPhone.
There may be a cleaner way to do this, but one way or another you should be able to get it to work.

  • Airport card does not work with Airport Extreme when security is turned on

I have an iMac running OSX 10.4.11 with an Airport card installed (firmware version 9.52).
I recently replaced my Netgear wireless router with an Apple Extreme Base station and now I am not able to connect my iMac to the wireless network when WEP security is turned on - I get an error from the Airport Setup Assistant when I attempt to connect to the wireless network.
It works fine if the wireless security on the Extreme Base station is turned off.
Please help and thanks in advance.
    Motasim

First, I highly recommend that you switch to either WPA or WPA2 as WEP is no longer considered secure. If you must use WEP, I suggest that you try the following:
o Re-create the Network Name (SSID) on your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)
o Try using 128-bit WEP, with a 26-Hex character key for the encryption type.

  • Any current inkjet printers work with Airport Extreme 802.11g Basestation?

Does anyone know if there are any printers out there currently being sold that actually work with Airport Extreme (802.11g)? Not the latest 802.11n basestation, but the UFO-shaped Extreme g basestation? I recently tried the HP DeskJet D4160 and it does not work at all with it, although my deprecated HP 940c works just fine. I need to replace the 940C, and I don't want to have to buy and return 20 different printers in order to find one that actually works... Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks

  • Will a WD hard drive work with AirPort Extreme to connect with an iPad Air

Will a WD hard drive work with Airport Extreme to connect by a iPad Air

If you already have an AE and a WD drive .. the best idea is plug it in and see on a mac in airport utility is the drive recognised.
If not you have problems.. if it is formatted correctly (Not NTFS mainly) then it can be a drive that is not compatible.
assuming it works get your ipad and pay for filebrowser or at least download a test copy and see how it goes.
Always the best way to find out.. try it.

  • Will a wireless printer work with airport extreme?

Will a wireless printer work with airport extreme? Such as an HP Photosmart D110.

Yes, it will as long as it is within wifi signal range of the Extreme.  Of course, you'll need to go through the printer setup sequence. NOTE:  The D110 is not AIRPRINT compatible, so it will not print from ios operating systems that are installed in mobile devices such as iphones, ipads, ipods.  However, there are Apps that are available for non airprint printers, but their quality and effectiveness are questionable.

  • Will sony s-air sw10ti work with airport extreme?

    Hi There,
I have the Sony S-Air SW10 Ti which has a great sound but the Aerial on it for DAB Radio is rubbish, it does have a docking station which also sounds good but no other connection parts. Would this perhaps work with " Airport or Aiport Express/Extreme" ?

Thanks - I am glad that you explained your situation a liitle more - although there is no direct way to connect to the wi-fi of the Sony - the Airport Express (not the Extreme) has an audio out jack that can be connected to any system - this would be an indirect way of using wi-fi with your Sony - see this link - http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/ - you could also incorporate Apple TV into your setup - see this link - http://www.apple.com/appletv/ - but as you can see, both of these choices involve AirPlay and Itunes which may limit your options - and because they are beyond the scope of this discussion group, I would suggest that you re-word your questions and ask them in the appropriate disccusion group in this forum - I hope that this clarifies things somewhat.

  • How do i set up time capsule to work with airport extreme base to extend wireless network?

i have a airport extreme base, how do i set up a time machine to extend the wireless network i have with airport extreme? i have also 3 airport express's connected to the same network to extend my wifi all over my house. thanks in advance.

    Much better graphics, thanks.
You can leave the Time Capsule connected by Ethernet from the Linksys and configure for a "roaming" network as mentioned previously.
To do this, open AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as the AirPort Extreme
No check mark needed next to Allow this network to be extended
Radio Mode = Same setting as the AirPort Extreme
    Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Same setting as the AirPort Extreme
Wireless Password = Same password as the AirPort Extreme
    Confirm Password
Click the Internet icon, then the Internet Connection tab
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Update to save settings and allow the Time Capsue to restart
Then power down the entire network
    Wait a minute or two
Start the modem first and let it run a full minute
Start the AirPort Extreme the same way
    Power up the switch
Power up the Time Capsule for a minute
Keep starting devices one at a time about a minute apart
Now, your computer will automatically pick up a wireless signal from either the AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule, whichever device is closer and providing the stronger signal.

  • Does the CP1025 work with Airport Extreme?

Hi, I am unable to get my CP1025 (not CP1025nw) connected to the Airport Extreme (AE) to be able to print through the network. The AE recognizes my other printer - HP Photosmart C3188 immediately and sets up automatically. So, I am assuming my network is ok. Initially, AE was able to recognize the CP1025, but failed at the last step in Bonjour.(error 1797 you do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer). I then upgraded the firmware on the CP1025 and now AE does not recognize the CP1025. Bonjour says "no bonjour printers are available". I have been trying this through my laptop (win7) and desktop (xp sp2), but it's not working. Installed and uninstalled bonjour and drivers several times. Also tried to replace the setup for c3188 with cp1025 through the Printer properties/ports window. Would it help if I used the older firmware? Where can I find it? How else can I fix this? Thanks ------------ CP 1025 firmware: 20120130 CP1025 driver: 3.0 (16 Mar 2012) Bonjour for windows v2.0.2 Airport extreme version: 7.6.1

It appears that you are using Bonjour on a Windows platform to get the printer connected wirelessly.
The best way to get the Laserjet cp1025 connected is to use WPS or a USB to wireless setup.
Instructions for both can be found by clicking on Installing the Printer Software on a Wireless or Wired (Ethernet) Network.
To use USB to Wireless, you will need a Windows or Mac OS X (10.5, 10.6, or 10.7) connected to a wireless network.
Installing a USB to wireless setup printer can be very tricky and buggy using Bonjour installation.
The steps in the link are for the Laserjet cp1025 and should get you going with getting it to connect.  The Laserjet is only designed to be connected to a network with USB to wireless or the router's WPS button (if it has one).

  • Multiple devices no longer work with Airport Extreme

I can’t get multiple devices to work with my Airport Extreme any longer. Normally, I have 4 wireless devices with my Airport Extreme: MacBook Pro, iPhone 5, Sony Wireless Blu-Ray Player, and Windows Laptop. On a daily basis, I use the MacBook Pro and iPhone 5 at the same time on the network. I have even had all 4 devices on the network without a problem.
Problem: Since last night, I cannot use any of the devices on the network at the same time. Every time I try to use two devices, I am asked to login into to my ISP and the device currently on the network is booted off.
Additional info: I live in an apartment complex and use the complex’s ISP. Unusually, since yesterday another device (my guess is a neighbor’s Airport Express) has been showing up in my AirPort Utility. I cannot access that device because it is password protected.
Attempted Solutions: I have tried a soft reboot, hard reboot, and factory reboot of the Airport Extreme, but still have the same problem. I have also cycled the modem on a repeated basis.
The ISP does not think it is their problem as I can still connect to them through either directly plugging into the modem/outlet or through the AirPort Extreme. The ISP has great customer service and are usually very helpful, so I don’t think they are trying to blow me off.
Perhaps, my AirPort Extreme’s settings are off.
If anyone can provide me with a possible solution, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried a soft reboot, hard reboot, and factory reboot of the Airport Extreme
A factory reset on the AirPort Extreme would have configured the AirPort Extreme to act as a router, providing normal DHCP and NAT services for your network.
But, the symptoms that you describe indicate that the AirPort Extreme's Router Mode settings may be configured for "Off (Bridge Mode)".....a setting in which another router at the apartment complex would be responsible for allowing multiple devices on your network to connect.
Using your MacBook Pro, we need to check the Router Mode setting on your AirPort Extreme as follows:
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Network tab at the top of the next window
Please check the current setting for Router Mode and report on what that setting might be.......either DHCP and NAT......or "Off (Bridge Mode)".

  • HP LaserJet 5000 doesn't work with Airport Extreme

My HP LaserJet 5000 is connected to a Linksys router which is connected to the AE. My HP DeskJet is connected the same way and works fine. Although the computer recognizes the Laser printer it will not print. The error message that comes up is "Printer Not Responding". Does anyone have any suggestions?

This all leads me to believe that the problem is with our router. We have a 4th generation Airport Extreme. Outside of this issue, it has worked very well for us for several years. Our modem is a Motorola SB121.
I should note that everything was working fine up until a few weeks ago. As far as I know, nothing changed within our setup. She had lost connectivity in the past for a few days at a time randomly, but it came back.
These issues are almost not worth wasting the time spent on them.. you can go out and buy an $80 router.. probably cheaper in the US and have it running again in 5min.
Your careful analysis looks correct.. the blame is squarely on the AE.
I am guessing you thought (wrongly as it turns out) that the latest firmware would be the best.
It is highly likely firmware update somewhere along the way to the latest caused the problem.
Try going back to 7.6.1 firstly and then 7.5.2 . .after each downgrade.. factory reset.
Use all short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric for all names in the AE. ie .. do not use apple names..
So AEGen4 is a great name .. AE24ghz is a great name for 2.4ghz wireless and AE5ghz is a great name for 5ghz.. yes, do separate names for both wireless channels whilst this issue continues.
Try and report back if it helps at all.

  • Which epson wireless printer will work with airport extreme (can not find out from epson)

three systems in use Win 7, Mac lion and vista.  Former epson printer WF 600 would not link with my new airport extreme router despite multiple attempts through epson.  Does anyone know of a wireless printer that will work?  Thanks.

I had the same problem. It was fixed by running the silly app downloadable from their support page: http://support.lexmark.com/perl/support/support.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:0:0:0
    Here's another way, through CUPS:
    1) http://127.0.0.1:631/
    2) Administration tab
    3) Add Printer
    4) Give Name, Location, and Description (pretty inconsequential)
    5) Select device: Internet Printing Protocol (http)
    6) Device URL: lexnet3://192.168.5.110:1 (the parts in bold must be there, the ip add is probably different)
    7) Make: Lexmark
    8) Model: 3600-4600 series (if this isn't there, you need to get the driver from Lexmark)
    That should do it.
The printer will be in your system preferences.
The port number and the "lexnet3://" is the interesting part. Without them, I don't think you'll be able to get it working.
    Good luck

  • Which non apple modem/router work with airport extreme

    Hi
My old modem needs replacing. It currently feeds into my airport extreme and an airport express extends the network to my office in the garage. Ideally I want an 'n' speed modem/router and use the airport extreme to extend the network in the garage, doing away with the airport express's slower speeds.
Are there any non apple modem/routers that will work with the airport extreme to extend the network.
    Many thanks

+Are there any non apple modem/routers that will work with the airport extreme to extend the network.+
Not if you are planning to "extend" using wireless only.
If you are planning to extend the network by connecting to your new modem/router using an ethernet connection, you have some configuration options to choose from in that case. Post back if you need more details about this.

  • Can't get my Wireless-G (on a Windows XP) to work with Airport Extreme

I have four Macs in my house. All of them work flawlessly with my airport extreme basestation. My mom just moved in a brought her Pentium 4 Windows XP desktop. I plugged in a Link Sys Wireless-G adapter and it picks up lots of wireless networks in my neighborhood but it will not pick up my airport extreme. Any suggestions?

Same issues here with an iMac, an XP laptop, an XP desktop and an Xbo via a Belkin game router.
    Things I have tried:
    No security.
    WEP
    WPA - all variants
    Every channel number available
All the combinations of the above (yes, really - that was a fun Saturday afternoon I can tell you).
Firmware updates for AEBS and the wireless devices.
It's clearly a wireless problem since all devices work when connected via Ethernet.
I'm starting to believe that the AEBS just does not like certain brands (or maybe even specific models), something which I can't prove since I'm not about to go and replace ALL my other wireless devices to make Apple happy. Like a previous poster, I am using Belkin or Linksys gear.
Right now I've gone back to a Netgear router which works flawlessly with Windows and Mac; AEBS will be going back to the Apple store soon unless I can happen on a working solution.

  • Do apple intend to make Timemachine work with Airport extreme

I saw a user reporting that Timemahine worked with Aiport exterme and an USD disc without any modifications ( out of the box(. Officialle Apple denys that it will work What is the reality/facts ?

It's been a well know fact that Apple dropped support for Time Machine on an Airport Extreme router when they released Leopard (10.5.0). Nothing in the 10.5.1 update changed this status.
Some people have gotten it to work, by first connecting the drive directly to a Mac and doing the initial backup, and then moving the drive to the router. Others have said this works fine for a couple of days and then fails until you restart the router.
Nobody knows exactly why Apple pulled support for this feature, or if they will eventually support it with upgrades to the OS or firmware upgrades for the router. Speculation is not allowed on this forum and if I start guessing my messages will be deleted.
There are too many variations in machines and base stations to be able to accurately predict the stability of an unsupported feature. Time Machine is designed to save your data when you have problems, but can't be trusted in the configuration you mention. There are enough TM problems in systems that are supported.
Meanwhile, are you having any problems or have you come up with any answers that deal with a supported feature of Leopard?
