  • Unable to conect Original Airport Card to password protected wireless route

I am trying to connect a ClamShell notebook( OS 10.3.9) with an Apple Original Airport Card (installed) to a wireless router. When I access the network in System preferences, it detects the router and my Airport Card and indicates that a password is needed to access the that network. After inputting the password and with the location router highlighted, it does not connect me with the network as I go through the setup procedure. The system administrator successfully connected to the router with a PC laptop. Am I not selecting a topic that I should or have I not performed the set up procedure correctly? I did not have this problem when I connected to a non-password router.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Darrell

Never received a reply from Henry B. so I decided to experiment with my problem. I Inputted the password in the Setup assistant, highlighted the router location and clicked Continue to continue with the Assistant. The Airport icon in the top bar became more pronounced instead of faded. I did not receive confirmation of a connection, in fact the back up page button was the only button active. I closed out of the Setup Assistant. I brought a browser and found the browser was connected to the Internet.
MORAL: Don;t always believe the Setup Assistant

  • Does Airport Internet Sharing Support WIFI Mode G?

I am trying to connect a Nokia N810 Internet Tablet to the Internet via Internet Sharing. The N810 only supports B and G mode WIFI. I can't get a connection. Does Airport Internet Sharing Support WIFI Mode G? Do I have to configure for this?
    Thanks

I am trying to connect a Nokia N810 Internet Tablet to the Internet via Internet Sharing. The N810 only supports B and G mode WIFI. I can't get a connection. Does Airport Internet Sharing Support WIFI Mode G?
    Yes.
I've used my 802.11b/g/n capable MacBook to share an ethernet connection with my 802.11g ONLY iPod Touch.
Does the N810 see the network?
Does any other WiFi capable device in your home see the Internet Sharing SSID?
Did you give your Internet Sharing a password? Internet Sharing uses WEP for encryption, and the rules for creating the WEP Hex key from a text string password are different for Macs vs everyother WiFi device in the world. 1st try no password. If that works, then move on to using a simple 5 character password for 40/64 bit WEP, or a 13 simple password for 104/128 bit WEP.

  • I'm having trouble using a Linksys E1000 Router

I purchased a Mac in November. Love it so far with a few minor exceptions.
I changed routers because I was having speed/connection issues.
Switched from a Netgear to a Cisco Linksys E1000 which I had purchased a couple of years ago for a PC that i replaced with the mac. The software with the Linksys says it cant be used with the version of the new mac Mac OS X 10.7.2.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

I gave up on Linksys some time ago. I had a lot of trouble with their routers, and a very frustrating useless experience trying to get tech support help. I found one a few days ago while doing some spring cleaning and threw it out. Not worth the trouble.
I got a refurbished airport express and it works great.

  • Why does Airport card lose AX network connection intermittently??

I'll be working, and then abruptly the Airport card in my iMac G4 loses the AX connection to the Apple network, and can't find any network. My iBook picks it up fine. Then, maybe within a half hour or so, it suddenly finds the AX Apple network again. All the while my iBook is fine. The only difference between these computers is that the iBook has an Airport Extreme card, and the iMac has an Airport card. And, I'm also in the same room as the AX station. iStumbler appears to show a loss of signal when this occurs, but that doesn't explain the iBook working fine.
I looked in the AP mgmt utility, and saw this:
"Deauthenticated with station (iMac mac address) (inactivity)."
    And then:
"Deauthenticated with station (iMac mac address) (received invalid class-3 frame)."
    What is the problem here??
Config: Cable Modem > Belkin F5d7230-4 router > ethernet to AX > wireless to computers
    iBook G4 / iMac G4 / iPod 20GB   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
    iBook G4 / iMac G4 / iPod 20GB   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I'm looking into that possibility.......have a cordless phone in the office, a PC, cell phones, etc. Will clear them out and recheck. The maddening thing is that the iBook is totally bulletproof even in that environment. Why would the iMac be having these issues, but not the iBook? Is Airport Extreme more robust, or that much better than Airport?
Even now, the iMac shows no network - yet I'm writing this on the iBook right next to it, and it's had no network interruption whatsoever.
Do you have any knowledge of those "error" notations from the syslog? Could they be pointing to anything else?
    Thanks much.....

  • Problem finding Linksys E1000 router

    Hi all.
I just purchased an E1000 router for my brothers computer. He has Comcast as his ISP so i was trying to set up the router and clone his IP address as per other instructions i have read online when dealing with Comcast. However i can not gain access to his router via the 192.168.1.1 address or the CD setup. They both say router not found.
I know the cable is good because i take it directly out of the cable modem and plug it into the "internet" port of the router. I've also tried it in port 1 of the lan side and still can not get acceess. I havent tried the router on another computer yet but since his is the pc i want it to work with, i have to get it to work on that one. I've also tried restarting the pc after the cable was connected.
    Any help is appreciated.

Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router.
Connect the modem to the Internet port and computer to Ethernet port 1 on the router. Open the setup page of the router.  Clone the MAC address of the main computer and save the settings. Unplug the power cable to the router and modem. First plug in the power to the modem and wait for 1 minute. Plug in the power cable to the router and wait for 1 minuter. Try to access the Internet through the router.

  • G5 with Airport Extreme connecting to Linksys wireless router

OK. I just bought a G5 and I added an Airport Extreme card (I'm a switcher, new to Mac's). I have cable internet connection and if I connect the Cable Modem directly the connection to the Internet is great. I cannot connect through the Linksys router at all. The switch component does not work right, nor do the wireless connection. My Windows PC's work fine, however.
Is there a trick to configuring this wireless connection on the Mac? Is the e2 device the Airport Extreme card?
Any information on this would be helpful.
    Thanks one and all.

    Thanks for the reply, Duane.
While I am having trouble with the G5, the PC's all seem to connect just fine without the need to restart the cable modem. I should clarify my statement: With the line from the modem directly attached to the hard ethernet connection on the Mac (bypassing the router) the connection to the Internet is great. If I connect through the Linksys router from the same e0 device, it fails to connect. Also, if I turn off all security on the router and try to connect wirelessly, the Mac cannot connect. The system profiler shows the wireless adapter, 802.11g device, and it seems to be running as far as I can tell.

  • Why does Airport Utility not support Airport Express A1084?

Airport Utility 1.3.4 (134.22) on my iPad (iOS 8.1.2 (12B440)) and the version of Airport Utility included with the very latest issued version of OSX on my iMac do not recognize Airport Express model A1084. I can still get on the internet via the AE A1084. Because I cannot configure the AE A1084 I am unable to set password protection on the wifi network or perform other functions.
Is there a fix or work around?
Has Apple abandoned these older AE's (programmed obsolescence), meaning I'll have to buy a new device?
Safari on the iPad has been having problems with web sites, dropping and reloading them - attempts to fix that by resetting network settings resulted in losing access to the AE wifi network. The Airport Express network appears in the "Set up new Airport Base Station" window, but attempts to access it produce the message "The Airport Express named "Apple Network XXXX" cannot be set up by this software."

That is a complex question, and would assume that you had Snow Leopard on the Mac at one time. Best to post your question in the support forum for the operating system that you are using now. Click the link and select your current operating system.
                  Mac OS & System Software
Doing something like this not for the faint of heart, and should be best left to an IT technician. That is going to be a significant expense.
For far less money, and many less headaches trying to revert to an earlier operating system, and knowing that most Express devices only lasted about 5 years, on average, if it were me, I would buy a new Express device or devices and be thrilled that I got about twice as much use as normal from the older A1084 model.

  • Setting up airport extreme to a Linksys wireless router,

My problem is that we have set up a secure network for my wifes pc labtop. Wep secure, I tried a airport extreme card in my G5 and cannot find the network or create one to get onto the network, is there something I am missing.

What kind of G5? Is it a Power Mac G5? Look on the back and see if it has a connection for the external AirPort antenna.
If your Power Mac G5 does have that connection, the antenna shipped with the G5 from Apple.

  • Original Airport card not seeing Linksys WRT54GX

Switched out my BEFW11S4 for a WRT54GX, on the old router I just changed my preamble to long and the iBook saw it, nothing I do seems to change it so my iBook can see this router.
It can see two of the neighbors routers and my old one (when I plug it back in) in the airport list, the new router has both B and G enabled, I've tried messing with the basic rates and preamble.

actually, it works intermittently, sometimes it sees it, sometimes not, the router must be toggling some settings or something, if anyone know optimal network density, beacon, etc. settings can you link it here.
    thanks.

  • Does Airport Extreme (2010) support Jumbo Frames?

I changed my MacBookPro, my iMac27" and my NAS to Jumbo Frames (first try 9000 MTU, then 4074). But there was no faster copy speed. Now I wonder whether my switch "Airport extreme (from 2010)" is able to work with Jumbo Frames. As far as I see, on the Airport extreme there is no possibility to change the MTU.

Yes. The 2010 (actually 2009) Gigabit AirPort Extreme base station incorporates a Broadcom BCM5395 chip that supports Jumbo frames up to 9728 bytes.

  • Linksys e1000 router blinking all lights steadily not functioning

Somehow in the process of researcing how to add my new laptop to the router, the  router quit working and is now just  blinking the blue panel lights.
I was attempting to download Cisco Connect to my flash drive and instead it  began to execute and I aborted that in about 10 seconds.
Wondering if just that messed up the original setup which was working fine..
    Thanks,
    jim

Well go ahead and try resetting the router by pressing and holding the reset button in back for 30 seconds.

  • Does ACE-30 support multicast in routed mode?

We currently have ACE20's, which only support multicast in bridge mode.
Was wondering if it's the same on ACE30's, or if Cisco finally implemented support for mcast in routed mode.
    thx
    Kevin

Could you please confirm if this applies to both ACE20 & ACE30, or just ACE20?
If both, when does Cisco plan on supporting mcast in routed mode?
    thx
    Kevin

  • 3rd Party Router and an iMac with Airport card

Could someone assist me in setting up an older flat panel iMac 800Mhz with a airport card to a 3rd party router (Speedport W 500V). It was really easy to set up the DSL etc when connecting to an Airport Extreme base station, however I have upgraded and trying to get conencted at my parents place, which have DSL but with the Speedport W 500V modem/wireless combo - any assistance to get the two connected would be appreciated.

Is there a SW tool similar to the Airport Admin
Utility which will allow setting and management of
    the third party router?
There may be (probably Windows only) or you need to use a web based configurator. It will depend on what the manufacturer of your router provides.
The manual which came with the router (it may be in electronic form) should provide guidance on how to configure the router via a browser.
